Zion Perkins. The undefeated heavy weight boxing champ. The world knows him as Steel. A black man from Miami, Florida with a lot of confidence, spunk, and talent. He has everything going well for him in life, until the day that he lost his wife, Sapphire. Sapphire tragically lost her life after she was ran off the highway, leaving Zion to become a widower. The term ‘spin’ is used throughout this book in relation to love. After losing Sapphire, Zion made a vow to himself, that he would never spin again.
Toni McCall. Toni is the woman to be in Miami. She has it going on from her career as a college English professor, she’s a best selling author, and she’s into real estate as well. With her status and success, she hasn’t been too successful in dating. She’s very particular about what she wants, and isn’t willing to settle. One look at Zion, and she’s already ready to plan a future for them. The two eventually meet, and although the attraction is there, Zion is afraid to love again. He’s willing to do everything that he can to not spin, but Toni isn’t your average woman. There’s many great traits about her that’ll be worth that spin.
Adding this note so I remember why I dnf’d and will not pick this back up:
The long drawn out chapters ain’t it. I shouldn’t be on page 90 and still on chapter 3. The book is only 290 pages but feels like 700. I already was skimming. And the random long ass info dumping didn’t even move the book along like I couldn’t care less about some of this shit I was told about these characters. The FMC also is so odd how you an English professor giving a lecture on a Tyler Perry movie …bffr 😭 I’m sorry I just …no .
It was a good story, I’ll read the next one to see the conclusion of the story. There are some grammatical errors, character names mixed up, and repetitiveness that I think could have been cleaned up with a pair of fresh eyes reading the final draft. There is a lot happening kidnapping (maybe), incest, the mom of teen in jail, and the teen being raised by her aunt, a wife deceased, leaving behind a son and a husband who isn’t looking for love. The empty sex that means nothing to both parties until someone decides to become serious with someone else, of course.
I’m giving three stars because so far this is a pretty decent book, but what I’m wondering is why is there three parts. I feel like this author is going to make up some stuff to stretch this out because already the thing with Brooklyn’s father and cousin is outta this world. Also, I feel like she went extra over the top when it came to our leading lady Toni. The intro of fine ass Toni was like 🤯 because is it like only her and two other Toni’s in the city of Miami or maybe it was just hyperbole. I’m all for a woman being confident and knowing that she has it going on but when an author takes it over the top it just becomes too much. Toni out here with some four pack abs but between being a professor, author, entrepreneur, parent to her niece and running her around to her activities you never once hear it mentioned that she even looks at the gym. The only time we see her out of her bubble of perfection as the epitome of woman is when she needs reassurance from Steel.
This was gooddddddddd. Steel and Toni are so cute together, and I love every minute of it. I think Steel was right about her student, Bryson, and I feel he is the one in the back seat of her car. I pray nothing bad happens to her. I had a feeling Wop and Rhythm had something going on because it was somewhat obvious. I wonder if Brooklyn going to reveal their secret. Part 2 here I come
So I do enjoy this author but my biggest issue with her is that her books always have a lot of grammatical errors. And that frustrates me to no end. For example spelling quiet as quite…this has been going on in the last few books and have not been corrected. Makes no sense because this author isn’t a rookie. Anyway the story was cool I don’t really care for stories where a MC has lost a partner because sometimes it feels like the new love interest is competing with a ghost. Also I did some through this I couldn’t take the INCEST I don’t even understand why that was necessary but yea.
Toni and Steel. I liked them they had to grow on me though. Toni was kind of annoying in the beginning especially with her and her friends constantly referring to her as “fine a** Toni” or how dare that man not want “fine a** Toni”. It was weird to me because she got upset that Steel didn’t show any initial interest because how dare he not ask for her number or look at her a**. Hmmm maybe he was in a relationship and simply wasn’t interested. Idk and this book went overboard with the descriptions and long drawn out chapters. Also how didn’t she know her student was creep I literally knew that from her first chapter. Idk I guess I’ll read the next book.
I love Diamond’s books, this one is no exception. But the ongoing themes in her books are misspelled words, use of the wrong word, using the wrong name, etc. Her books would be much better if she got a new editor.
I enjoyed this book but I’m hoping Diamond sees this review. The grammatical errors are out of hand. Please invest in an editor. It’s getting worse every book.
I started this book because everyone was raving about how good it was. I’ve never read a book by this author before. I honestly could’ve DNF this book off grammatical errors alone! There was so much narration that honestly wasn’t needed or relevant to the story and could’ve been left out. It made the chapters and the book longer than necessary. Toni didn’t do it for me at all! Given her accolades, professor, New York Times best selling author, real estate mogul she really had the makings of being a bad bitch but her attitude was fucked up. She was way too vain for me. The way she was crashing out cause that man didn’t give her the attention she’s used to getting from men was crazy to me. Referring to yourself as “Fine Ass Toni” but still seeking validation from Zion and being lowkey insecure was even crazier. Zion was very guarded and standoffish but rightfully so after losing his wife in such a traumatic way. I appreciate him being open and honest about his mental state and not being ready for a relationship. He was a solid guy. Zayne was my favorite part of the entire story with his lil spoiled self! The whole Wop and Rhythm storyline was disgusting and unnecessary. I skipped right over those chapters cause why? All the adults in Rhythm’s life failed her. Overall the storyline wasn’t bad and I’m going to read the next part just to see what happens next and how it ends…

I expecting nothing less than what was delivered in this book!!!…Babyyyyy, the drama continued from the beginning to the very last page and my whole heart fell in my chest at Brook’s discovery of what her cousin Ana her foul ash daddy was doing, right under her grandmother’s nose, right in her house!!!… Rhythm has absolutely no morals and I bet this eye opening behavior is a wake up call for Brooklyn and hopefully a better understanding as to why her Auntie Toni did not want her hanging out with her cousin!!!… Toni was truly a bit put off about her own security, especially after Steel told her to keep her head on the swivel!!!…I’m sure if her protection was in her car, whom ever is in her car has it!!!…I truly hope someone comes to her rescue!!!…My heart dropped when that person grabbed her!!?… This book was such a very well written book and help my attention!!!…I love the expression of love throughout this book!!!… It Was Baby Boy Zay that had me laughing n tears when he said he wanted to know what it felt like to have a mother!!!…
As a woman who loves a book with drama, emotion, and real-life twists, Spin 1 & 2 had me hooked from the first page. D. Johnson really knows how to write complex characters you can feel for—whether you’re rooting for them, frustrated with them, or just trying to figure them out.
Book 1 set the tone with all the intensity and secrets that had me side-eyeing everybody 👀. And just when I thought I had it figured out, Book 2 came in and flipped everything! The twists were wild, but still made sense—nothing felt forced.
This series gave me romance, betrayal, redemption, and lessons in loyalty. If you love urban fiction with strong female leads, emotional depth, and just enough mess to keep you reading way past bedtime… this is the one.
Can’t wait to see what D. Johnson writes next! 💖 spin 3 pleaseeee
This book started off so sad, Sapphire losing her life, Steel left raising his newborn son and shutting down for 5 years until he meets Toni and then they start to date! His son Zayne already loves her and it also appears she has a stalker! Can't wait to see how this plays out. Brooklyn lives with Toni but visits her dad , grandma and cousin Rhythm on the weekends. Some craziness is happenings in that house and what she discovers on her cousin's phone has her distraught. What will happen next? So much happens in this novel, can't wait to read the next one to see how it all plays out! Great read Diamond!!!!
Brooklyn saw all the text messages from her cousin and father who is her jealous cousin uncle and she had a abortion and pregnant with his baby that is sick mess right their. How do you progress this and see her father and cousin in a different light. Who is hiding in Toni car is it her student Bryson who we think is obsessed with her will she get to the gun in time. Is Toni and Steele going to make their relationship work. It was a great read with plenty of twisted and turns.
I would like to have known that there was a cliffhanger before I started reading, but nevertheless. I'm a first-time reader for Ms. JOHNSON, and I'm a fan for sure. I LOVE Toni so much, she was a confident boss lady in her own big bag, with all her ducks in a room, and none of that silly drama accepting stuff. She walked away when he told her he couldn't give her what she wanted and deserved - so BOSS! Zayne knew a good thing it was nice that daddy Steel finally understood. Rhythm and Brooklyn's family "stuff" was so sad. Waiting for the next book.
What in the world did I just read? Diamond went out the box with this story. After the death of Zion(Steele ) beloved wife Sapphire he was left to raise his new son Zane. Through the obstacles he’s really doing a good job. He standing on never spin on love again.
Dr. Toni Macall is a professor at University of Miami, she’s not looking love, she’s living her best life raising her 17yr old niece Brooklyn while her sister is in jail.
This book is so good as the author is my favorite. I love how Toni maneuvers through life with her head held high in spite of all the things she does for others. Steel is like a breath of fresh air, everything you want in a man. Zane is the child that makes every one just adore and Brooklyn is such an amazing girl even though her life has been altered. Great read I need book 2 because Rythm has done the most and Wop needs his ass whipped
Diamond know she can write a book. I always be scared when I have to learn new characters but she do it so effortlessly. Steel Steel Steel he been through a lot I love the type of father he is. Fine ass Toni is a boss n I love her she goals make you wanna step your game up. Brooklyn young ass have a lot to learn. I have no words for Rhythm she just dumb n Wop need to be ashamed of himself. Steel told her to watch out for Bryson. Smh
Steel was going through a lot. A single man raising a five year old little boy is a lot, especially when he is a replica of you. Little man wanted a mother figure and was determined to pick someone out for his father. Toni had everything she wanted and needed, except a decent man. Having Steel humble her made her feel small. Brooklyn could be over the top, but she was your typical teenager. Rhythm needed help. I can't wait to read part two!
Zion "Steel" Perkins is THE man! Former boxing champion, father of Zayne, his life revolved around his son due to the tragic way Steel lost his wife Sapphire. He would hook up with women occasionally, but his life was fulfilled with just him and his son. Until Zayne spoke to him one day about wanting to know how it felt to have a mother, and he literally chose Toni McCall for that purpose.
That cliffhanger with Toni has me scared for her because he is it hiding in her backseat and why didn’t her alarm go off when they broke into her car because I’m sure she locked her doors. There’s not a word in the dictionary to describe how disgusting Wop and Rhythm are especially with them being blood uncle and niece having relations. I can’t wait to see what happens next and who was in Toni’s backseat.
I'm glad Steel gained some sense and decided to "spin the block on love" again! I love Toni for him. He needed someone who could feed his soul, mental and body...my girl was just the one to do it. She's so well rounded and a straight up boss! Zayne is too precious! I knew some funny business was going on when Rhythm answered the phone and immediately said "I'm with Brook"...straight NASTY! Awesome read..on to part 2, immediately!
You have my sitting on the edge of seat after reading the last chapter! I’m so glad Brooklyn finally knew was up with her cousin and dad.
I’m so happy for Toni and Steel man! Now that’s that black love that I can’t wait to experience. I love the way the got together and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

There’s so much to digest! I need a minute to take it all in! I love Toni & Steel together they are just what the other needs. Brooklyn shouldn’t really be surprised she knew she was a whole hoe out here in those streets already. I can’t wait for part 2! I can already tell this series about to be fire.
Listen this story line was do different & soooo good. Everytime Diamond Drops you never know what to expect, except knowing that she does the D A M N thang. I love Spin & Toni together so bad! The way his son gravitated toward her tugged at my heart. But let’s talk about Wop nasty selfffff lord i hope they kill him 😫
I was so happy that Toni didn’t settle for anything less than what she knew she was worthy of! Some of these dang characters are just a dang fool! I won’t tell you anything, but give this book a SPIN!!
This book was so good y’all, that I can’t wait until the second book is released.
Baby what in the world! Who done caught Toni off guard?!! Brycen or the Coach...both of them suspect! Now the blues Rythym giving is beyond trifling. I thought she had been taken advantage of....but. nooooo Sis welcomed the incest 🤦🏾♀️ Patiently waiting to see how Diamond 💎 gone shock me with Book 2!
This is another of Diamond johnson books I could not stop reading. I am loving the characters. Bop is disgusting 🫣 and Rhytem obviously has some deep problems going on to think it's OK to be so nasty with her uncle. Can't wait for book 2, please Diamond, can we have it before I forget what happened in this one.
I probably should have DNF this book but iKept reading. It didn’t start getting remotely interesting until maybe 40% into the book. This could have easily been 100 pages. Unnecessarily long chapters in the beginning. Alot going on but nothing going on at the same time. The incest was definitely a turn off for me. We get it , his wife passed…. Needless to say iWont be reading the second book.
Whew the spin is real! Steel is the real deal! I love Toni and how put together she is, I just wonder who is in her car, I think it's the coach. Steel can be vulnerable and knowing that something has happened to Toni will for sure send him into a frenzy. I feel for Brooklyn to find out those nasty things about her daddy and cousin, sick! Onto part 2
I will say that I felt like the first 45% of this book was often too wordy- it provided a lot of description & extra information about the characters & potential side characters but eventually the story did pick up & we got to the “meat & potatoes” of the story. Zayne owns my heart already & I can’t wait to read about steels character growth.
