Not So Over You

Rate this book
Nine years ago, my high school sweetheart shattered my heart.

Now he's trying to steal my client.

As if fighting for the biggest marketing deal of my career wasn't enough, guess who walks into the boardroom flashing that cocky grin and billionaire swagger?

My ex.

My first love, first heartbreak, and apparently, my biggest competition.

The man is ruthless. Charming. Infuriating. And worst of all?

Still stupidly hot.

I tell myself I can handle him. That I'm older, wiser, and completely over him.

So what if we had a little slip-up in California that involved a beach, no clothes, and some truly regrettable decision-making?

And I'll prove it by beating him at his own game.

But he isn't playing fair.

He's flirting. Scheming. And looking at me like I'm still his.

The problem?

I might still want to be.

DNF at 21%.

Sorry no, I can't. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest proponent of high school "love of my life" declarations, but these two were serious enough for Abi to be thinking about marriage the day he left her. And he leaves her with (apparently) a two-word letter and no explanation: Good-bye, Abi.

I'd be screwed up for years after that too.

When we meet up with Simon again, he's... gross... Seemingly with no regrets about where his life lead him, with no thoughts of Abi until she suddenly appears in his life, then he's hot/cold/hot/cold like a defective shower head with, I want her back. No wait, we should be able to get along, so I'll apologize. Hey, let's get naked on a beach. I'm going to get revenge on her for leaving me naked on a beach even though I totally destroyed her trust in men. I want her back. No, I just want to destroy her in this competition, but still be friends. I want her back.

That's just in the first 21%. And then he apologizes and Abi seemed to be... fine with it...? I'm sorry, what he did would have fucked up just about anyone and left them with serious trust issues. But after dinner with an explanation they seem to be making inroads to being together again? Or friendly? Nah, I need more fight from my girl and less hot/cold faucet impersonation from my guy. I honestly couldn't tell if it was bad writing or the author was trying to make her characters be so wishy-washy to show the inner struggle -- or just make it funny.

That said, I'll check out the author again to figure out if it was just me. I did like the strong female friendships in this one (as opposed to making all female "friendships" seem like they're a mix of Survivor and Housewives reality TV where everyone is out to backstab everyone else unless you're part of the sequel), and that's something I tend to like when authors throw in.

Abigail Walker and Simon Astor have been together since junior high and talked about the future, so Abigail is stunned when he gives her a time capsule on her graduation day and a letter saying goodbye.

Almost ten years later, Simon, who runs his family marketing firm Astor and Co, and his high school buddies are competing in the Fit Gal Olympics sponsored by the world’s first all-natural energy drink company. He is totally surprised to find out hey are facing Abigail’s team that includes her high school besties and sister. She, like Simon, runs the New York branch of her family’s marketing firm. At the finish line, she wins the gold, and he wins the silver, and as it turns out, both their companies have been selected to compete for the honor of representing Fit Gal.

What a beautifully written second chance romance between two Romeo and Juliet soulmates torn apart by circumstances no young person should ever have to endure. Clearly Abigail and Simon were made for each other, and when fate hands them another opportunity to make amends, especially when they’re forced to work together, they tenderly try to reclaim not only their friendship but their love as well if only outside meddlers will not interfere. But in the highly competitive, at times cutthroat, realm of marketing firms, powerful forces will stop at nothing to secure clients.

Just when I think that Ali Parker could not conjure up another spell-binding plot with such incredible, authentic details, here comes Not So Over You that had me crying about the plight of Abigail and Simon one moment and rooting for their happiness in the next. Make sure you have tissues at the ready and enjoy this wonderful story!

Book two in The Sister Pact series delivers a powerful second-chance romance with all the emotional depth you'd hope for. While it’s technically part of a series, you can absolutely dive into Simon and Abigail’s story on its own (though if you’ve read book one, you’ll enjoy the little cameos).

Simon and Abigail’s reunion hits with the weight of years of unresolved feelings. She’s still reeling from how he left, and now they're unexpectedly thrown into each other's orbit again—this time as competitors in a high-stakes marketing pitch. Talk about tension!

There’s a perfect blend of angst, grief, and romantic tension throughout—especially as Simon grapples with the loss of his twin brother and Abigail tries to protect herself from more heartache. The dynamics with Simon’s father add another layer of conflict that keeps things interesting.

What really stood out for me was the emotional depth—there were moments that truly pulled at my heart, especially when the past starts to resurface through the time capsule. It’s those kinds of details that give the story a deeper emotional core.

This is one of those books you start reading “just for a few chapters” and end up finishing in one sitting. The sisterly bond is a beautiful thread throughout, and the ending left me smiling with full-on HEA satisfaction.

If you’re into second chances, emotional healing, and well-earned romance, this one’s a must-read.

I received an ARC of this book and am sharing my honest opinion.

Abigail and Simon’s story is a rocky ride!

Abigail (Abi) Walker and Simon Astor were in love since the beginning of junior high through high school. At an after party nine years ago after graduation, he handed her a time capsule which was locked and said his love for her was timeless. The next morning a letter was on her doorstep saying Goodbye Abigail. Present time: Simon runs his family’s advertising company, Astor and Co. with one of his childhood friends, Benny. His other two friends also are called in to work on projects. Abigail and her and her other two sisters work for different branches of Walker and Co Marketing. Now they are competing in a physical competition to compete in an advertising campaign for the Fit Gal Company, an energy drink. Abigail’s team come in first and Simon’s team come in second. They recognize each other at the end of the race and freeze. Now they have to spend three months at Fit Gal, along with two other companies competing for the account. Can they ever make it back to each other after ten years? There are revelations revealed about what happened back then. So much interference in Simon’s life back then and even now to keep them apart. They experience ups and downs and twists and turns you wouldn’t believe. In the end, can their love conquer all? What was in that time capsule he gave to her ten years ago? A fantastic journey to go on with these two characters. It will frustrate you and melt your heart all at once.

This is the 2nd book in The Sister Pact series, but can be read as a standalone. You’ll love Simon and Abigail’s story and will enjoy reconnecting with some of the characters from the first book if you read it. Fate brings Simon and Abigail together after a decade and her heart is still hurting from his abandonment. They’re now rivals competing for a large marketing contract and are forced to work together, No shortage of drama or angst from his father’s control or business practices. An emotional roller coaster as Simon deals with his twin brother’s death and Abigail deals with Simon’s disappearance. The book will draw you in emotionally right at the beginning and you won’t be able to put it down. You will find yourself pulling for these two star struck lovers who were meant for each other. Well written and you will love the strong bond between Abigail and her sisters. The time capsule will bring tears of joy to you and an HEA you’ll love. Ali Parker never seems to disappoint and here’s another winner from her. I read a free advance copy from the author’s team and voluntarily chose to review it.

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
Simon and Abigail were childhood sweethearts before Simon ruthlessly broke up with her.
When they meet up by chance, 9 years later, they both had emotional baggage to work though but underneath it all was still that undeniable attraction.
They both work for their own family marketing businesses are forced into pitching a bid for the work at the same company and it’s just a matter of time before things get tricky.
Simon, seriously dominated by his father, despite acknowledging that Simon’s twin brother had died years ago, frustrated me no end. Just how many times was he expecting Abigail to make allowances for him? In the world of business integrity is everything and unfortunately Simon’s father as CEO lacked this and was just an out and out bully. A real unlikeable character.
I really felt for Abigail and loved how her sisters and family rallied round.
Despite their HEA I feel like I need a follow-up book to see how things actually work out between Abigail, Simon and his father.

Wow! A timeless love
I really loved this story from start to finish.
This story follows Abigail and her ex boyfriend Simon.
Being devastated from the way Simon leaves her after graduation Abigail needs to navigate life without him.
Believing he was her soul mate and the love of her life she can never really let him go, comparing all men to him.
Simon, having had his life altered cruelly by a loved one, he never forgets what he lost so many years before.
Until a decade later he looks up and sees her, his beautiful Abigail.
Both shocked, their lives become entwined again and Simon sets out to explain and apologise for the way he left her in the past.
Bitter, Abi does not want to hear it and rebuffs him every chance she gets.
Such a beautiful, emotional story of young love ruined by another and the long journey back to each other.
There were funny moments, really sad moments and wonderful ones.
A great storyline with amazing characters that made this story so good.
I loved it ♥️
Looking forward to London’s story next.

I'm a complete sucker for a second chance. And while I had a feeling I knew how this one was going to turn out, OMG! That ending still utterly stole my heart. From best friends to each other’s everything, Simon and Abi had loved each other for as long as they’d known one another. Even beyond the day that life tore them apart, the chemistry and emotions were still there, ready to pull them back together. I loved watching as they got closure on what had happened in the past, and I fell head over heels as they fell back in love. I'm not even going to try to make any predictions about what I think the author may have in store for the third Walker sister, but after reading the first two, I know I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

This was a great 2nd chance HEA, with a really slow but impactful storyline. Abigail and Simon broke up, thanks to Simon's father's interference, when they were 18. Now, they're working at competing marketing firms, and they're thrown back together to try to individually win the FitGal account. The problem is, Simon's dad continues to be a problem, and Simon seems to struggle back & forth on how he wants to proceed. I think this story gives a good view of how important family can be in the success or failure of a relationship - for both good and bad reasons. I really enjoyed the slow burn, and while I think Abigail was rather quick to forgive all the mistakes, she was well within reason for not trusting Simon for a long time through the story. Overall, it's a great read, and I'm looking forward to reading more about this cast of characters in the next book!

This book has it all!! Every. Single. Emotion.
Simon and Abigail were soulmates all through Jr and High Schools. At her high school graduation party, he gives her a time capsule and professes his undying love for her. The following morning there is a letter on her front door saying he has left. No forwarding address, no explanations, nothing. Abigail is devastated and for the next ten years is always comparing every man to Simon. None of them match up. Then out of the blue they run into each other. The draw is there and Simon is desperate to apologize and explain why he had no choice but to leave that morning.
This is a beautifully written love story with all the ups and downs and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. This is a MUST read and Ali has done it again!!!!!

DNF

Normally I’d not give a review for a book I didn’t read 3/4th the way, but this one is not good. Don’t recommend. The dialogue is cringey at best, definitely denotes the age of the author. Young people don’t talk like this, and by young I mean lower than 40. The story isn’t good, the bones of it aren’t even worth sticking around for. She drops her pants 10% into the book, which for a smut book is fine I suppose, but when the backstory is this tragic tale of being abandoned with no closure - having her give it up with genuinely no conversation ruins the vibe. Okay cool, she’s uncontrollably horny I guess. And it doesn’t really convey his remorse and longing when not even 10 pages before they bone, MMC is talking about his excitement for some other random girl’s nipples and butt. Like???? And he’s a self proclaimed player while FMC laments being forever altered by her 18 yr old love leaving her(lmao). It’d be really funny if it wasn’t pathetic. Nobody is likeable here, namely Simon (which is really bad given you’re meant to root for them to get together).

Had to DNF bout halfway through. Don’t waste your time.

Also - I know author hired an artist for the cover. I’m not convinced the author didn’t use an AI filter for it. I’m sure it’s a stock photo they purchased and filtered it, but the button, hair, and eyes give away some wonky stuff is happening. Come to your own conclusions of course, but no matter what I hope the author didn’t pay for this cover.

This is the second book in this series, featuring the Walker sisters, and while you can read it as a standalone characters from the other books do feature and you may enjoy it more when read as a series. This is the story of Abigail (Abi) and Simon, who were childhood sweethearts until he dumped her by letter.
Years later they meet up as competitors in a sporting event, and business rivals pitching for a client. Feelings obviously run deep, can they rekindle their relationship, and should they? Does their relationship have a chance, has anything changed?
Join them on this emotional journey to see if they can get their happy ever after, after all this time!
A story with lots of twists and turns, which I received as an ARC.

Are you ready for book two of "The Sister Pact series?" I was!
I loved the first so, so much!

Simon and Abigail drew me in and held me in their orbit!

Emotional. OMG. Have tissues ready!

Would these two get a second chance at love?
It wasn't a "happy" separation ten years ago!
Can Abi forgive Simon?
Did Simon do something that was unforgiveable?

What I think I love most about Ms. Parker's stories, is feeling like this could happen to you, it is realistic!
There are always real feelings and most times, real issues that have to be dealt with!

The world-building is always amazing, and her characters...totally awesome!

Simon and Abigail are the couple whose lives this book is about. They have known each other since middle school. This friendship turned into a first love. There are numerous unfortunate life experiences that caused a breakup that you have to read for yourself. Nine years the are competing in the same field and happen to see each other. Simon is still in love with Abigail but there are still some obstacles they will have to navigate. This book has twists, turns and some predictable events. There are times I just wanted to yell at both of them to learn that once a person shows you who the are believe them!!

This Bookfunnel ARC is a very detailed and comprehensive love story.

Abigail and Simon made my heart cry with joy in their HEA! Magnificent, I love it! This couple suffered so much after high school graduation, because of his father. But, 9 years later they each win a contest and get to compete for a marketing job for a great client. Can he get her back forever? Can his father still keep them apart? The supporting characters are so good to visit again. These Walker sisters are from a excellent family, beautiful and smart to boot! Don't miss any of these books! Thank you Ali for this story with a list of feels angst, love, sadness, happiness, anger and more!

I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.

Simon Astor and Abigail Walker have been in love with each other since they were thirteen and had been ripped apart the day after their high school graduation. Ten years later they meet again by chance and let those long buried feelings begin to resurface. Overcoming the numerous roadblocks to their HEA consumes most of this 550 page book. Saying their relationship is complicated is the ultimate understatement. Despite everything, it is a good book that will keep you engaged and wondering what else could possibly go wrong next. Simon and Abi are meant to be together forever!

Simon and Abigail were childhood sweethearts. Simon broke up with her. 9 Years later they met again when they are pitching for the same bid. The attraction between them is still strong. I don't like Simon's father at all he is a real bully. What was the reason Simon broke up with her. This story is full of twist and turns. The same interference in his life when he was younger is still there. Will they get a happy ending. I love The Sister Pact series and can't wait for the next story. This is an fantastic must read story.

This story grabbed my heart from the beginning and I enjoyed every moment of Abigail and Simon. Things between them can be intense, working through the emotions that have been under the surface for years. I love a second chance with a couple that was just so connected yet that pain is still there. They have a great back and forth, lots of steam, and much more! This series is giving us close knit friends and family that I'm looking forward to more from.

Abigail and Simon were high school sweethearts… until he disappeared on the night of his graduation, leaving behind only a 3 word note saying goodbye.

They found each other again years later when their marketing firms were competing for a huge client. Longing. Mistrust. Fear. Love. The conflicting emotions raged as fiercely as the competition for the Fit Gal contract.

As long as this story was (and it was long at over 500 pages!), I feel like it was missing something at the end. But hopefully we’ll see more of Abi and Simon in the next story.

I loved every page of this book. There's just the right balance of internal dialogue and actual interaction without throwing off the pace. The push and pull between the MCs and their individual pros and cons made them fit together perfectly. The heat and smexiness are well-written and don't overpower the romance, and you can't help but love and root for the MCs. So well-developed, so deliciously romantic, SO what you can expect from this author. Dual POVs, humor and witty banter, and a perfect HEA.

This is the second book in the series and brings Abigail and Simon's story. The author does a great job developing the story and painting her scenes perfectly. She takes you into their lives with drama and all the emotions and kept me turning the pages reading their story. It's well written, moves fluidly and is a terrific read.

The 2nd book of The Sister Pact series. This is the story of Abigail and Simon, childhood sweethearts. After a horrible loss in Simon’s life, his family kept him from following through with the future plans with Abigail. After 10 long years, the now adult characters find each other again. It is a story about 2nd chances and magic that can happen when love repairs all. The series is a rom-com and is overall an easy weekend read.

A powerful, emotional and beautiful story as Simon and Abigail are reunited after years apart. He walked out when they were teenagers and are now in competing companies. Loved the characters and felt for Simon as he had to deal with the pressures from his father and Abigail was strong but couldn't let him go. Fantastic.

This story is about Abigail and Simon, teenage sweethearts that went wrong. Hence, the second chance that hopefully works....They have a meet-up again years later by chance, and Abigail finally gets the whole truth from Simon. Every time you think things are going well, something happens again. Will things finally work out for them this time???
