I fell in love with a boy before I even knew what love was. I gave up my world for him, bartered away my hopes and dreams so that boy could have his, but he threw me away at the first sign of trouble. And somehow, I became the villain of our story. Everyone hates me for my betrayal. Only I didn’t turn my back on him—he turned his back on me. Now, I live out my days at the Raven Souls MC as public enemy number one, guarding my secrets like a precious commodity. My silence keeps others safe, so instead of speaking up, I fade away. Now all I dream about is escaping the monster in my bed, but before I can run, he lets slip his intentions toward the mother chapter. Torn between loyalty and freedom, I put my neck on the line to deliver a final warning. But nothing in this life is easy, and instead of freedom, I find myself being pulled from one cage and locked in another. Because there’s never just one monster, is there? Only this one I never saw coming.
Content Bikers are gonna be bikers. If you are looking for a PG read, this book is not for you. Please expect a whole lot of cuss words, foul language, and dirty talk. There is also enough sexcapades and violence to make you question your morals.
What a fracking ride! Lola’s story was incredibly emotional and heartbreaking, with tons of highs and lows, ending with her rising from the ashes of her past. This story completely sucked me in from page one and just didn’t let up. It was wonderful to see her regain her footing and sense of self as the story went on. Hannibal ended up being her perfect other half. The monster she needed, two sides of the same farked up coin. If you’re a fan of the series, you already know a bit of their story going in since the timeline runs concurrently with book two, but it doesn’t compare to seeing it from her perspective as all the events unfold. Great storyline, fast-paced, and plenty of really hot, smexy times - you really can’t ask for more. The First Cut is a standalone, but I highly recommend starting with the first book of the series and proceeding from there. You can’t go wrong - they’re all fantastic and are on my “Faves of the Year” lists. I will mention that if you’re a sensitive reader, you may want to check out the trigger warnings.
“I get that you’re pissed, but she’s my old lady now, so I expect you to keep your opinions to yourselves.”
Day one, baby. He stood up for her, even to his president (her ex), from DAY ONE. Even not knowing the full story, still thinking she'd betrayed her ex, she was his so no one was gonna trash talk her in his presence. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
"That was then, and this is now. She’s my old lady, and I expect her to be treated with respect when she’s in the room. That’s not up for debate.”
The way I would get on my knees for this man.
I really liked both of these characters. The FMC was the suffer in silence type for years...right up until the MMC gave her the safe space to open up and voice what had been going on with her.
From day one this man was up front with her, always clear about his thoughts and intentions, and never letting any miscommunication stand between them. After what she had gone through, that's exactly what she needed, and it allowed her to feel confidence in her own mind and feelings once again.
There were some things missing in other aspects, such as the fact that this is very much insta love. The MMC is obsessed from their first interaction, and from there he molds his entire life around her. The FMC trusts him so quickly, making this a fast burn on top of the insta love, which could have still worked for me if she hadn't spent the prior 4 years being tortured, abused, and raped by the villain of the story.
We never get a clear hold on how much time is passing for most of the book, so that at one point she's able to cover her pregnant belly with a sweater, then she's going into labor in what seems like just a few weeks later.
The majority of the bonding with his daughter also happened off page, since other things were going on, which was a let down.
If not for those these things, this would have been a 4 or even 5 star for me.
With that said, this was a wonderful dark MC romance once I got over the insta love. The MCs are completely dedicated to each other, and I never doubted either of their feelings.
“This ends today. I know most of you have started to make amends with her, and for those that haven’t, fix it now or fuck off. This club is her fucking home, and by god, it’s about time you all started making her feel welcome.”
He's her champion in all things from the moment they meet. 😭😭😭
‼️ Spoilers
I can't stand that her ex got an HEA in the previous book. I don't mind that she forgave him here because the forgiveness was for her own peace of mind not his, but after the way he treated and discarded her without a single word while she protected him for years, I won't ever be able to read his book and have any type of respect for him. I'm also borderline on all the club members who say they didn't see how she was being treated in those years. Definitely side eyeing them all.
I loved reading Lola and Hannibal's story. They were so perfect for each other. Loved that Lola FINALLY had someone who had her back, no matter what, who would burn the fucking world down for her to protect her. My kind of hero! Yes, he's somewhat insane, but he never once lets her second-guess what he's thinking - just lays it all out there for her so she never has to worry. Not once did I think he was ever going to be anything other than loyal, loving, and protective...everything that Lola needed and deserved after all she'd been through.
So why not 5 stars? I would have had that bullshit scene making up with Havoc didn't happen. I was cheering my petty arse off when Havoc and Neveah first came to see Lola to get answers and she told them the truth before dismissing them. But here's the thing. I get that Havoc was probably a hero of his own book, but I have absolutely no interest in reading his story. That piece of shit, along with his brother, are responsible for everything that poor girl went through. She was loyal to that useless excuse for a man, and all he did was turn his back on her. I thought he got let off way too easy (although I loved when Hannibal punched Havoc in the face and told him he didn't care who the fuck he was; that if he ever upset Lola again, Havoc would be 6 feet under!)...and I would have preferred if she just stayed indifferent. Not angry, not sad, just completely over him and have no interest in having any kind of relationship with him. So because none of what I wanted happened, I had to lower the rating to 3.75 stars (just because Havoc breathing pisses me off so much lol). As for Neveah, she comes across as a bit holier than thou, and she annoys me. Probably more to do with the fact that she's dumb enough to be with Havoc, but whatever.
Anyhoo, this is my first Candice Wright book but it won't be my last if we keep getting heroes like this 😍 I'll just remember to avoid Havoc's story. But interested in seeing what else this author has written. 😊
And we have a winner....for best crazy sexy man of the series. It was really good, hard but heartwarming story. Was also really nice to see some events from different perspective.
The First Cut is one of those books that pulls you in right from the start because it doesn’t sugarcoat anything. It’s dark, it’s emotional, and it’s built around characters who’ve been through hell but still find a way to connect. The heroine (without giving too much away) has scars—physical and emotional—that define how the world sees her, but not who she truly is. Watching her fight to reclaim her confidence and identity is honestly the heart of the story. Then comes the hero: tough, dangerous-looking, and absolutely not the guy people would expect her to fall for. But the way he sees her, not as broken but as powerful, makes their romance really land. The chemistry between them is raw, not all sweet fluff, but it works because both of them are carrying their own pain and choosing to face it together. There’s tension, steam, and plenty of banter, but what makes it stick is the way their relationship feels like healing without losing the grit.
The ending pissed me off. I was mad and uncomfortable with how Havoc and ol lady started in the last book, but this one that just made me him more. And then read she used the last bit of her money to save Havoc's dad's bike. Havoc didn't apologize enough for me.
I don't care what anybody says, Hannibal is on my list of book boyfriends. He was perfect with Lola. Because from the moment he set eyes on her, he CARED. He saw right through to the broken person she was, and he raised her up and held her there. I didn't read the first two books, but when I saw the blurb for this one, I pined for it. I know this author knows how to do angst, and I was not disappointed. Lola deserved a family who would love and cherish her, and she finally got it with Hannibal, Millie, and Evan.
Okay, I have to start by saying—getting through the first few chapters of this book was really hard for me. Not because the writing was bad or the story was slow, but because I felt so incredibly guilty.🥺 After reading Havoc’s book, I had totally judged Lola... and wow, was I wrong. This woman has been through so much. I actually found myself wishing she were real, just so I could give her a hug and apologize in person. And maybe help Hannibal take down Driller while we’re at it. 😈
This book seriously messed with my emotions—in the best way. I cried, I felt ashamed, I smiled, I got angry, and then I felt this wild need for revenge. It’s not often a story pulls that kind of reaction out of me, but this one did. Hannibal is everything Lola needed and more. He showed up for her in every scene, and I genuinely think he’s the best mmc in the whole series. No contest.🙌🏼
The writing? So good. The plot had me completely hooked. The romance, the spice, the heartbreak, the healing—it all just worked. It was intense and emotional and beautiful. But seriously, read the trigger warnings before diving in. There’s a lot of heavy stuff in here, and it’s not for everyone.🚨
If you’ve read the other books, you have to read this one. And if you’re starting fresh—just be ready. It’s going to hit you hard, but it’s so worth it.
I admit I was a little hesitant to start this. I’ve been on an angsty binge for a while now, but sometimes feeling too much heartache on behalf of a character can be too much. While I felt the heartache early on, this was so well written that I was sucked right in and couldn't stop. I read it non-stop cover to cover. I felt it all. It was heartbreaking, so emotional, suspenseful, action-packed, and yet had delicious steam and a heart-felt love journey that had me rooting for the two main characters.
Lolas' story is devastating. As soon as she is claimed by Hannibal, pulling her away from danger, I was instantly rooting for them. He is everything she deserves and more. The way he instantly defended her and vowed to protect.. I was done for. The way she was treated by all the mc members in the past made me antsy for them to discover some truths just so I could see how guilty they would feel about how much they fucked up.
I absolutely loved this story. I did not read books 1 and 2 before reading this, but I definitely want to now. Definitely will be a re read for sure.
This is the third book in this series, and this is Lola and Hannibal’s story. Lola has endured so much in her life, after giving up her dreams and hopes for a boy, who threw her away at the first sign of trouble, making her to become the villain in the story. Lola now leads a life where everybody hates her, and she is continually dealt blow after blow, living at the MC, and guarding her secret. Hannibal is crazy, and when he uncovers the truth, he protects Lola from all those who treated her so badly in the past. This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with secrets, betrayal, loyalty, danger, suspense, intrigue, trust, revelations, redemption, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, heartwrenching, twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Honestly, this is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. The angst, the feelings, the sadness and then the happiness, the man that stood up for her - that was everything. For him to even do that before he got to know her - that was chefs kiss! 💋
The life Lola lived, everything she sacrificed, loved through and suffered through would break anyone but she fought it, made herself stronger from each situation without even knowing it herself. And then she meet the MMC Hannibal and he really was THE MAN. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love this book. I haven’t read the two before this and I think I managed to understand the story and what happens before just fine. 😇
I know most of the time, series like these that are interconnected standalones are fine out of order but sometimes you miss the context and nuance of other characters journeys and stories. There are a lot of reviews on this one that say they will never read Havoc's story (book two) but you have to! You really miss the other side of Lola's story. Just like if you only read book 2 and skipped this one, you would look at Lola in a different light. Please give the other books a chance because you won't be disappointed.
Brilliant read. Lola is forever buying her tongue, When someone else is not doing this for her. Lola has been silenced to protect those she loves, but time has past and she is faced with the concequences of her actions... Her bravery, her protection and the sacrifices she has made have been thrown in her face and she is ground into the first even more. But Hannibal takes her back to her home and where she thought she would never be happy again, She is happier than ever. Brilliant read.
Hannibal this is an example of a man for me. For Lola, he became her safe haven, her home, a person who would do anything for her: appreciate, respect, and most importantly, listen💔. Lola has someone to live for, someone to love, my girl will handle this shit. Hannibal His relationship with the children touched my heart, well, the man of my dreams, recognized the child as his own, he will be a wonderful father for the boy🥺. We still need to work on the relationship with my daughter, but not all at once. Their love strong, passionate, fiery, and most importantly, it exists and it saves them both in difficult times

We first meet Lola in book two, the good girl, has Havocs ex old lady. We get a deeper dive into what actually happened, and it's a roller-coaster that just doesn't seem to stop. Lola is my new favourite, and I will send Hannibal onto you if you think otherwise. She took suffering in silence to a whole new level. Seeing past interactions from her point of view.... Hannibal cutting out your eyes would be less painful. Then, to see Hannibal with her is all the chefs kisses. This is a dark romance, so expect wtf moments, plenty of spice, and all the obsession. Don't want to give anything away, I didn't come into this expecting to like Lola as much as I did. And I may need 2 more books before I can forgive Havoc. Hannibal could eat human steaks, and I would still wanna play doctors and nurses with him. Loved this book and don't think I can look a blenders the same.
I hated the majority of the male characters in this apart from Hannibal who although he was a bit of a psycho was absolutely fabulous. I loved Lola.
I thought Havoc was just awful. He didn't even give Lola a quick phone call to tell her where he was going, all those years together and he so easily believed the worst of her, it was shameful. Even when he got out he didn't make any effort to try and find out the truth yet he knew his brother was scum but just believed what the men told him. If I've been Nevaeh I wouldn't have trusted him not to do the dirty on me either.
Some omissions in this book I felt -
I never really understood why Khan and Driller treated her the way they did.
I wanted to know what happened to Citi after she was found. I want to know what happened to the other girl, the club princess who disappeared.
Milli had lived in hell for 5 years at the hands of Driller. She finally gets the courage to warn the mother chapter and meets Hannibal (yes like Lector). Triggers/spoilers: would have been a 4-5 star but the following: rape of Milli, beating until miscarriage, blood play, and sex with a knife. Definitely worth trading if you overlook those.
Id rate of less cause I hated everything about it but this book was very well written. It will wrench your heart out, frustrate you and be your worst hate read. My heart aches for Lola even now and I hate that havoc got a happy ending...that alone bought this down from a 4 to a 3 star. Sorry not sorry
Lola and Hannibal were great. Havoc needed to suffer more—as did the club. Anger that the people who tormented her or stood by while it happened all got away with nothing but their own guilt.
Cheating = the boyfriend (not the H) believed that the h cheated on him and left him for his brother (blood and club) when he went to jail. Truth was the h was always creeped out by the OM (bf's blood/club brother) and wanted nothing to do with him, but was given no choice, in the worst way you could imagine
h sees ex-bf with OW = h has to deal with seeing who she was once in love with give his time/attention/love/loyalty to OW all while sneering and insulting her when she was the actual victim in the story he tried to make her the villain of
MC = heavily present and involved in the story
SA/R = the OM forcibly and repeatedly SA/R the h as well as physical/emotional/financial/psychologically abused the h for YEARS!!! Like five long torturous years. A lot of the abuse is glossed over and mentioned but it is still horrific.
OM drama = see above for some of what OM did to h. The OM was the VP of the club and he and the former prez were in to very shady and horrible things behind the club's back. They also colluded to put the h in her horrible position and encouraged the rest of the club to ostracize/ignore as well as insult the h by painting her as a patch chaser who jumped from brother to brother. No one bothered to actually look at the h or try to hear her when she cried out. Before the first SA/R of the h, OM beat her to the point she lost the baby of the bf she had been carrying. So heartbreaking. h had so many past broken bones including when OM broke her legs and let her sit in her own excrement for days, laughing because he knew no one would care enough to check on her. Comeuppance? When he went after the h the last time, the h was able to get some of her own licks in and cause the OM some damage. The H finished the OM off in a gruesome and drawn out way (it was great) then gifted a severed appendage to the h....and yes it is what you think it is...h later has plans to further desecrate the appendage and lead to hysterical results that while horrifying are LOL worthy.
Grovel = the bf and the club had so much to make up for. The h did not forgive or give any quarter to either, as she knew her worth. She listened and she was finally able to tell her story. This man (bf) who claimed to love the h and know her was the first to condemn her and yet never once asked her what happened then has the audacity to be upset that she forcibly lost the baby. The h listens to all (bf and club) and she doesn't forgive (as she shouldn't!!!) but instead is going with the live and let live mentality.
The true H in this is a terrifying (to all but the h) psychopath that is all "touch her and die" J/P of the h. He doesn't give the h a choice about being his and she is not upset about it. He heals all her hurts (physically and her psyche) as well as empowering her to be his queen. He is the morally grey H who will burn the world down for the h. No one is allowed to look at or talk to the h with anything but respect and deference. Loved this for the h.
I would have gone up in stars if there had been more of a backlash/comeuppance for the bf and his actions which led to the h's downfall and abuse. Like he should have been the one to fall on his sword in from of the club to atone for what he did, his old lady should have had some disgust for him, he should have let the H beat the snot out of him, done ANYTHING beyond saying oops my bad, so sorry...but it did not happen.
I really liked the story, loved the H and really felt for the h.
