“SONG BIRD HEARTS” KENDRA MORENO ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶️🌶️.5/5
Valerie Dacatur is finally seeing her dream come true. After years of performing in small-town venues, her music career has taken off—she’s singing in packed stadiums and just performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl. But fame has a dark side.
At a party, Valerie witnesses something she shouldn’t have. After talking to the wrong people, things spiral quickly, forcing her to step out of the public eye for a while. To protect herself, she returns to her hometown and is assigned a team of bodyguards.
Knox Holloway, the security expert.
Gilden Boone, the specialist.
Wolf, the unsettling stranger who’s been following her since the party.
As the threat becomes more serious, Valerie realizes she can’t rely solely on others for protection. If she wants to survive—and hold on to the success she’s fought so hard to achieve—she’ll have to face her enemies head-on.
But how far is she willing to go to protect everything she’s built?
I really like Kendra Moreno as an author, I love her why choose books and how she writes them. However, in this one, everything felt too rushed and underdeveloped.
The book doesn’t even reach 300 pages, yet with this kind of plot and suspense, it needed more depth, especially with so many characters involved. There needs to be time and more scenes to build both the individual and group dynamics. I didn’t enjoy getting an “I love you” after literally two scenes with one of the men. I didn’t feel the emotion at all. The fmc has good chemistry with only one of them, and he’s clearly the one the author focused on the most, developing his background more thoroughly. As for the other two, we only get brief glimpses into their pasts and little else—we barely know anything about their personalities or what shaped them into who they are now.
That said, I’ll say it again: I really enjoy the author’s writing, and I’ve loved other books in this series and her other works. Just go into this one without expecting too much, but knowing it will still be a pleasant read.
In short, I’ll keep reading the series because I’m eagerly waiting for a certain character’s story—but this book, in my opinion, could’ve easily been skipped.
