Midnight Protector immediately drew me in because the story features a vampire and a psychic which is rare to come by. Iris has a very strong vision one day where she sees the mass death of vampires by a powerful weapon. Until this point she was a small potatoes consultant that helped solve cases through her visions. Because of this vision she ends up on the radar of vampires and the Council sends Caine, their enforcer to kill her. Instead of killing her right away, he hears her out and realizes there is more at play here that's bigger than them both. After an assassination attempt that almost kills them both, Caine decides to team up with Iris to stop the development of this weapon before more vampires die.

Overall the story was engaging. It's written very well and I was definitely anticipating how everything would play out. Because the book is on the shorter side of did suffer a little bit from rushed plot points and I thought the romance did not have enough build up to have me feel that connection between Iris and Caine. I would note here that the romance isn't explicit but there are sweet moments. This was my first read by this author and I would try another story by her.

Intriguing and sexy

I don't give spoilers. What I will say is...great summer read. Fast, fun and very nicely done. This writer is what black women...all women need. To know that women are not kittens up a tree waiting for someone to get us down. Women stand up to what life give us and find love along the way.
