The Truth About Mack

Rate this book
If you have read Two sides: Mack, this is that book. New name, new cover, same book.
My name is McKenzie Perry. I’ve lived a life filled with secrets. Secrets that took me years to understand. Secrets that my bestie Gia and I kept from the world. Secrets that only I knew. I wasn’t afraid of the lies, the secrets, or the hidden skeletons. That’s not what frightened me. I was afraid that one day they would come out, somebody would find out the truth. If I am the only one that knew the secrets, the lies, then they were safe, right? How does a well-rounded, talented little girl create a false sense life? It took several years for me to understand the impact of lies. Lies I told, secrets I kept, and the lives they controlled. One of the things I know to be true is, I did the things I did for a reason, even if I didn’t know it at the time. They all had a reason.

This was certainly a dark, mind-boggling, tale of debauchery! Beginning with the Prologue, I knew that this story was unlike anything I'd ever read before. It was gritty and raw, holding nothing back. I thought I knew where the story was headed early-on, but man, was I wrong!

This was one convoluted story. For each truth unveiled, two lies are unearthed. The layers of deceptions were incredible. The characters that seemed the closest were actually the farthest apart.

Although the story does offer more than one POV, it is primarily told from the POV of McKenzie, aka Mack. As a heroine, Mack was difficult to connect with because she suffered from Bipolar Disorder and her frequent mania led to some outlandish behavior that most people would have trouble relating to. She was quite often delusional, aggressive, sexually uninhibited and extremely dangerous to herself and others.

In a nutshell, she was bat-shit crazy! I don't want to offend anyone's sensibilities, but no joke, she frequently met the criteria for an emergent involuntary psych hold. How she made it so long without being involuntarily committed, showed some ingenious planning on her part.

That being said, what an incredible experience Ms. Woodruff created for readers by letting us hear this story from Mack's viewpoint! What a ride! It was a unique way to experience this story. While most of the time a character's mental illness is not revealed until the very end, usually as a surprising twist, Ms. Woodruff embraced this aspect of Mack and didn't hide anything. There was no attempt to hide her illness and it made for a captivating read.

I grew to care for many of the characters, but for me, Mack was the main focus. Everyone else played a crucial role, but only as it impacted Mack's experience. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the pieces come together and seeing how each of these characters influenced the events that transpired.

My only complaint is that it did drag for me at times. I love that Ms. Woodruff takes the time to craft a book with well-developed characters and storylines. However, sometimes that results in a slow-moving story. It is hard to get the balance right.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic story! It was original and a compelling read. I didn't expect most of the twists that took place, which was nice. If you like to have your mind toyed with, this is a fabulous choice.

I don't even know how to review this book, it might spoil everything. If you are interested in being literally mind fucked, then by all means...... Go in blind.

What an unforgettable fucked up ride.

description

I still don't know what is true and what is not. The story is told from Mack's POV. The problem is she has Bipolar Disorder and gets off her meds so she can be able to feel things. And when she is off her meds! Oh boy! She is unstoppable and all messed up. Mack has got to be the most unreliable narrator ever.

description

The writing is good, it flowed so well. I had a tiny bit of problem somewhere towards the end when it dragged, other than that it was all good.

All the characters in this book are well developed and so messed up, the secrets, the lies, the betrayals and everything in between. I got to know them very well. Annnnnd!!! OMG!!!

description

Kyle....... I still don't know what to think about him. But dear laaaawd! WTF???

I feel completely mind fucked. I want to read Gia's side of the story but I feel like I need to take a long shower before I do.

*** 5 DARK,TWISTED STARS ***

I don't even know where to start with this review.I knew it was going to be dark but I had no idea how totally f*cked up it would turn out to be.

Mack has bipolar and the book starts in the present day.She is just managing to hold down a good job but is getting more and more unstable due to events from her past catching up with her.

Mack and Gia had been friends from a young age. They had grown up together, their parents were 'friends', and as families they did everything together.
Gia was the manipulator and Mack blindly followed her. With Gia pulling the strings something happened in their teenage years that not only devastated their own lives but everyone around them.

Mack knew from a young age that she felt something was wrong with her but almost everyone around her, turned a blind eye....apart from one certain person.....
I really can't go into anything about the main love interest, because, believe me you don't want any spoilers here..

This is a dark story. It's a story of lies, deception, jealousy, betrayal, revenge and so much more.....
My heart ached for Mack,as a young girl and as an adult as she tried to cope with her illness.

This is not a fluffy romance at all and definitely won't be for everyone.
She has sex at the age of 16.Here in the UK this is the legal age of consent so that didn't bother me at all but I understand it might not sit well with everyone.

The story goes from the past to the present as the whole torrid story is told.At times I was apprehensive to keep reading as I had no idea what to expect...

There is another book 'Shhh' which is Gia's pov which is not available on ebook but I am desperate to get my hands on it and I'm not ashamed to say I've sent a begging email to the Author...

This book had me totally gripped,I don't think I've ever read a book so quickly.
To all my friends here that enjoy the dark side I would definitely give this a go...it's brilliant and unique and if you want a totally absorbing, gripping story I can't recommend highly enough!!!!!!

★★★★ 4 Crazy Stars ★★★★

If you are looking for a light romance with a clearly defined storyline, this book is not for you. The Truth About Mack is a story about a woman who has bi-polar and is struggling with a whole load of issues which span from childhood to adulthood. I went in blind, only knowing that this is one of two books written by two different authors telling us two sides of a story.

Mack and Gia are best friends and have known each other all their lives. Gia is the leader and Mack is the follower. It is clear from the start that Gia manipulates Mack and is a toxic friend who formulated a plan which changed the course of both of their lives.

This is not a typical love story and it took me a good while to work out who the love interest was, Mack was involved with 3 different men throughout the course of her life and I was left guessing who she would end up with. Some of this book will leave readers uncomfortable - Mack was under the age of consent (not the UK age, I might add) and started an affair with an older man at the age of 16.

As this is written in Mack's POV, it is quite a mindfuck - she is bipolar and suffers from extreme hyper-sexuality and delusions.

Going from past to present quite flawlessly, I became emerged in her life and the lies, deceit, revenge and crazy mistakes this girl made.

It is a roller-coaster that I am sure won't suit everyone but I was so engrossed that I chose to overlook some of the WTF moments.

Gia's story is written by M. Robinson and is called Shh Gianna's Side

**** 4 stars ****

So, it's been 7 years. *gasp* 😱
And, 1000 books later, I'm a different person with a different perspective.🤷‍♀️
Therefore, I'm taking 1 star from my original rate.
It's a very complex and twisted read and for that alone it deserves my praise. Most of it was portrayed in an extremely disturbing realistic way. However, this time, there were things that didn't totally convince me.

********** Original review *******************

This was a crazy ride.
Insane.
Not a crazy “ah! That girl is crazy”.
It was bat shit crazy.

There are so many things to consider here.
First one is that I am also going mad after reading this. It is all messed up in my head.
How sad was Mack’s “perfect” life.
How fake was her friendship with Gia. I don’t believe we can have a fake-best-friend in real life right? I just can’t! This is a book. This is a book. This is a book. This is a book. Did I mention going mad?
How unfortunate to grow up with parents who ignore your problems because it would taint the family image if it would come out of the closet.
Kyle? Dear God…
So many lies, deceit and betrayal.
I think Mack survived it alright.
She deserved to find happiness
Now, I want to take my hat off for you, Jettie Woodruff. There is no limit to your imagination. Impressive.

4 He Was Always The One Stars!
Wow! This book was a whole lot confusing and I couldn't wait to get the answers to everything. I wasn't sure I was liking this at first but around 45% I couldn't put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen.

Mack and Gia. Gia and Mack. They've been best friends since they were babies. Mack and Gia's parents are also best friends. They all do everything together. Even though they are all best friends there was a struggle between them to always try to be better than each other. If Gia got a new bike then Mack had to get one. If Gia's dad closed a deal then Mack's dad had to hurry and close one. If Gia's mom sold a house then Mack's mom had to hurry and sell one. The list was never ending. Through out all this Mack knew at a very young age that she was different from everyone. Every time she tried to tell someone they would shove it under the rug. Her parents also shuffle her off to a therapist. But they never ever acknowledge that anything is wrong with her.
Mack and Gia do something their senior year of high school that has a major impact on everyone around them. One persons life is completely ruined. Years later that one person is out for revenge! Imagine the surprise he gets when he realizes that Mack and Gia were not what they portrayed to the whole world. These two girls were fucked up! This is when I couldn't quit reading. All the the answers to my questions are slowly coming to the surface finally. My feelings were all over the place. I felt this mans pain and I couldn't blame him for what he was doing.
This book is filled with lies, revenge, secrets, jealousy and betrayal. My mind was all twisted up. My heart was breaking for Mack as a child and an adult. I felt bad for her.
This was not a love story filled with rainbows and unicorns. It was really fucked up. This book will not be for everyone and you might want to read my spoiler before you dive in.

The epilogue was really good. I am curious to see if there is another book about Gia. I'm not sure if I could dive right into it after this one if there is. I will be checking and putting it on my list though if I find it. lol

I'm so happy I seen a friends updates on this baby! It was really good.
Awesome job Jettie Woodruff:))

This is my first book by Jettie Woodruff and it will definitely not be my last! This woman had me on the edge of my seat!! Where does Jettie get this ideas?? – this woman is EVIL hahaha!

If you didn’t know Shhh is 2 books by 2 different authors. Shhh by Jettie Woodruff is from Mack’s point of view. And Shhh by M Robinson will be from Gia’s side.

Initially I was going to just read one of these books but I am so glad that I am getting the chance to read both books. Because both stories is so different. I think everybody should read BOTH of the books.

I think this book should come with a warning. Like a big fat warning. If you are a fan of dark read this book is most definitely for you! This book was so f.up (and I mean that in a very good way otherwise I wouldn't have given it 5 stars).

I started this book thinking Mack is a MAN hahahahaha. (eeeehhh wrong)

Mack is very much a girl.

This is my Mack:

Usually I post a pic of who the “man” is, but I think that will stay in my mind for now. (Because if I tell you the NAME of the man it will take so much away from the story.)

It is so difficult to write this review because I am so scared to give something away.

One thing is for sure this book had me on the edge of my seat, I was shocked, terrified, there were lies, deceit! You name it, it was there.

I was an expert at telling lies, keeping secrets, and being deceitful.

Mack and Gia grew up next door to each other. They both had dreams but it doesn't always work out as planned. Mack was always in Gia's shadow. I felt like if Gia said JUMP Mack jumped. Mack and Gia makes some pretty big mistakes when they are younger. These lies stays with Mack and the way she is now I would say it is part of what she did as a child. Yes there is something ‘wrong’ with but I think it all added up.

Everybody has a story. I don’t care who you are. Everyone’s got one.

Let me tell you Mack needs some serious help! She is cray cray! hahaha! I thought I was crazy but nope she takes the cake haha!! She is a real wild one! This pic sums her up haha

I feel I need a sweet story after this! Haha.

I loved it go get your copy on the 1st of September 2014.

I'm off too read Gianna's side! I would like to find out what her story is!!

LOVED IT!!!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and let me tell you something, it did not disappoint me in any way. I loved this book. Jettie will forever hold a special spot in my heart with Underestimated but this book rates right up there next to it for me. I know this book will not be for everyone and it touches on things some might shy away from so it's not for the light hearted of people. It totally messed with my mind. I'm an overthinker on trying to figure stuff out and I just couldn't with this one.

I'm gonna leave this a spoiler free zone and my review short because nothing I say can do it justice. But I want everyone to know it's so worth the read. From page 1 until the end I could not for the life of me put this book down. I didn't know where the story was going to lead and honestly, this book is like nothing I've read before with a totally different story line. Do yourself a favor and get this one. You won't be sorry.

YIKES! I am totally w the minority on this one!!!
I LOVE a dark read but this was just dysfunctional and hard for me to connect with.
Maybe its just that this isn't 'my kind of dark'... I can't really explain why I didn't love this...I just didn't. I couldn't seem to get caught up in the characters or the story. The mental instability made me feel like I was going in circles...I personally felt near insane at times trying to just keep up.
Mack was the poster child for fucked up and her choices, her relationships and her family were disturbing and super fucking crazy.
I fear my expectations were too high... It was def twisted and taboo but just a little too INSANE for my liking.

I had never read anything by Jettie Woodruff before and I seriously don't know WHY . She is AMAZING . Her writing style holds you captive and you become one with the character, you really feel everything Mack goes through.

This book was not an easy read but I was in the mood for something strong and batshit crazy so it was just what I needed. And finally! I thought I had lost the power to give 5 stars to a book..

This book will definitely screw with your head. At some point I was afraid I was going crazy too.

Well if this wasn't different. The topic in this story is not one I've ever encountered before in a story. To think I knew enough about it, reading this proved me wrong. I actually learned a lot and it really startled me! The title of this couldn't be any more perfect than what it is because I was shocked when the TRUTH came out... more than one actually.

Mack didn't just lie, her entire life was based on them. There is only one person who is able to keep her grounded, who noticed from the beginning at a very young age something wasn't right... and that someone is forbidden.

What a wonderful mixture of lies, betrayals, secrets, things forbidden, and a whole lot of craziness. Read to find the truth about Mack... her secrets as well as everyone else's and you are sure to be surprised, angry and disgusted.

I love Jettie's work. She is up there on my top spot. 1 of my top 3 favorite authors who I would drop everything to read a new release. I don't even need to read the synopsis to know it's going to be great.
I felt honored when I was asked to read an ARC of Shhh...
Personally I think that this is her best yet. I wish I could give it more than 5***** as it deserves so much more.

How can you go through life so totally and utterly alone, keeping everyone at arms length. That way you don't get attached to people. Don't let anyone in and they cant hurt you, cant let you down.
This is the way Mackenzie Perry lives her life on a daily basis. Very few people get passed the cool exterior and get to meet the real Mackenzie, the beautiful young woman with an extremely troubled past. Can anyone break through the walls Mack's built to protect herself. Are the barriers there to protect herself from letting anyone in or letting herself out of her very own personal hell.

This story is surrounded within a web of deceit, secrets and lies, about love, hate, trust, revenge and betrayal. Lifelong friendships are challenged by the events and decisions made.
The truth always manages to find a way out no matter how hard you try to keep the secrets locked away.

When everything is beyond the point of broken is there any way to get up and move on. Can that damage ever be repaired?

There are so many twists and turns within Mack's story - just when I thought that I had worked out what was about to come out - something happened that messed with my head and totally threw me. I felt like I was free-falling without knowing that when I pulled that cord my chute would open and I'd fall to the ground safely. I was begging for more with every turn of the page and in no way was I disappointed as I listened eagerly as every last secret was revealed.

I hold so much affection for Mack. Her character is different from any female lead I have read before and yes she can be a little manic, obsessive and even crazy, but then that's normal right? We can all be a little crazy once in a while. Some more than others.
Some of the secondary characters are just as vital with huge meaningful importance to Mack's story.
the only character I'm left feeling unsure about is Gia, but then I'll leave it up to her to tell me her story.....

How do I even comprehend what I just read!? All I can really do is type specific words to express my feelings.
BRILLIANT. AMAZING. WOW. INSANE. MIND BLOWING. DISTURBING. HEART WRENCHING. HOT SEX. HEAD SPINNING. JAW DROPPING. And I could go on and on. I'll end on this....I am completely convinced that if Stephen King read this book, he would pull a "Misery " on Jettie Woodruff, lock her up in a room with a typewriter so she could write for him. I truly believe this.

I guess I'm not used to reading many books like this, but boy, was it a rush!

Is it hot in here photo: Hot Flash blanche.gif

McKenzie Perry and Gianna Edwards have known one another since birth, practically, and are best of friends. And as best of friends, they know each other's deepest, darkest secrets. Or do they?

This is a deep, dark tale, told from McKenzie's perspective. It is a reminder that things that look perfect on the outside aren't always as nice on the inside. Touching upon sensitive, taboo topics, this book is surely a page-turner. Beautifully written, the story it tells is both haunting and mesmerizing. You'll step into McKenzie's shoes and experience a wide array of feelings as she copes with living up to certain expectations that are at odds with her true identity.

I not only love the story, but the idea that it's just one character's perspective and the other main character's perspective is available in a separate book:

Shhh... Gianna's Side

It's pretty ingenious, if you ask me!

I started this book and the prologue shocked me I messaged Jettie with a HOLY FUCK! and from then I knew it would be at pure, dark and twisty which is what I love from this author.

I lost count at the times I re read sections making sure I was reading it correctly because I was shocked or amazed.

This is a story about love and how you can't control it even when it's wrong it feels right and is right. A story about how lies can hurt so many people in ways that can never be undone. Also a story about forgiveness and forgetting the past. A story so sexy and thrilling cold showers are needed or have your partner on standby.

If you love dark and twisted not your average run love story then this is one for you. I'll be thinking about this book over the next few weeks as I suffer a book hangover

Shhh...

I'm thinking how to get the words just right.

A masterpiece! I can't express to you what a tremendous read this is. The development of the characters were perfectly done not to mention every bit of research was to a "T." I loved the story line. It felt real and it was totally unpredictable. Everything that happens in this story can easily happen in real life. I guess that's one reason why I enjoyed it so much. No spoilers here because you need to experience every emotion that Mack goes through and trust me you will as you take that journey with her as you read. It was easy for me to visualize everything going on as if I were there too in the book. There's lies, lust, love, deceit, betrayal, and mental disorders. Read it because you're going to love it.

Another total mind f**k.
Mackenzie totally crazy and even crazier when she comes of her meds. She comes from a home where her parents have no time for her. They are too occupied in their jobs and competing with the neighbours to pay any attention to her. That's where Kyle Gia's dad picks up the pieces.
Lots and lots of lies, secrets and more betrayal as Mackenzie and Gia try to outdo each other. Plotting against their English teacher Mr Nicholls things backfire on them. Loved the ending. Just what Mackenzie needed.(Love).

Another one to add to my Favourites 2014

This was a amazing story written by a talented author, Jettie Woodruff. Her description of the characters had great detail and development, making them real and believable. The portrayal of Mack was intense. Shhh.... was full of emotion and packed full of surprises. Several times I thought I figured out the story line only to be throw for a loop that changed the entire story. I highly recommend reading Shhh... by Jettie Woodruff.

I mulled over this review for a week or more because I honestly don't know how to do this story justice. My love of all things Jettie began with Underestimated and this book just solidified her top spot in my book.

The story is based on a secret. A big secret. A secret that destroyed lives. On top of that secret, Mack is keeping her own secret. One that she hides from the world. Trust me when I tell you, Jettie did her research on this topic. Mack is a beautiful tragedy waiting to happen. You feel everything she feels, her ups, her downs, her paranoia, her manic episodes...Mack was written to jump out of the pages at you, and my God does she ever. She hides her true self from everyone, everyone but HIM.

Her relationship with her parents is one every child would want. Not wanting for a thing, popular in school and how could things go wrong with her best friend Gianna at her side? We get to know the dynamic of the best friends relationship through Mack's perspective. Gianna the ringleader, Mack the one eager to be accepted. She doesn't want anyone to know so she tries everything she can to be normal. Not even her parents know the true Mack.

She still struggles throughout her adulthood until the demons come back to haunt her sending her over a cliff of despair. This is where we get the full picture of the person Mack truly is.

The emotions Jettie rips out of you while reading this book will send you on a tailspin. Nothing is what it seems and the entire book had me mesmerized. I couldn't put it down. Get ready for the emotional ride of your life with this book. If your tbr doesn't include this one, I have to question our friendship.

It is, by far, my top book of the year.

I was very lucky to receive an ARC of this book. Let me just say this is by far one the best books I have ever read. This book is Jettie's best book yet! I was so excited to read this book I only had 4 hours of sleep and I had to get up because my mind would not shut off thinking about it. I was completely sucked in from the beginning. The first page pulls you in right away and your dying to find out how it all ends. I loved Mack.. she is such an amazing and beautiful character. Even though Mack had things she needed to work through you still are pulling for her to get her happily ever after!! It's hard to put into words how I feel about this book because it's amazing, fantastic, good, perfect, fabulous, and the list goes on and on!! Just when I thought I had something figured out.. BAM that's not at all what I was expecting. Go into this book with an open mind and be prepared for the ride of your life so many twists and turns I felt like a roll coaster ride through the whole book. Whew I feel like a different person now! I wish there were more stars on goodreads because 5 just doesn't cut it. This story was insane...in a good way!

Twists? Check. Wait, not double check. Make that triple, quadruple, and quintuple check. Right when you learn the truth about one thing, bam, another surprise hits you. They keep coming until the very end. Which, of course means you're biting your nails the entire time (and I'm not a nail biter).

There was great character and story development. I loved that we learned about the past and what situations caused other situations as the story went along. It made it more entertaining than just having a full back-story thrown at us in the beginning. Definitely a cool writing style.

I felt like I went through the ringer and then back several times after finishing this book, which means it was really good. Only good stories can elicit those kinds of reactions from a reader.

I love the way it ended, I love that not everything is a perfect little bow on a wrapped package. It's definitely more realistic that way.

What can I say, I loved this book! 10-stars!

Shhh is one of the most mindfucking books I've ever read. It's neither sweet nor romantic, and if you are hoping to get all warm and fuzzy, keep looking somewhere else. If you can't stand the subjects of rape, violence and cheating, and find disfunctional relationships deplorable, this book is not for you.

But if your mind is open to absorb a crazy rollercoaster of all of the above plus so much more, go for it. Don't rob yourself by reading reviews with spoilers, just jump into Shhh.

All I want to say is Jettie Woodruff is brilliant. I don't need to like the characters she creates, and some of the things she describes sicken me. But at all the times I read her books, never did I lose an interest or skipped pages or went to sleep before I finished her books. If you read Shhh, you'll probably either love or hate it because I can't imagine how anyone could stay indifferent to this insane story.

SHHHH By Jettie Woodruff

I Received this Arc in exchange for a honest review

I have to start by saying that Jettie is one of my Favorite Authors When she writes a book that is more on the Darker side she blows my bloody mind. Her Characters always have so much depth to them that you can’t help but get sucked into their world. I would honestly read anything this woman writes.

This book starts off by a man being placed in jail for a crime he didn’t or commit or did he? It explains some of his experiences inside those cold walls. He has nothing better today with his time than to sit and plot what he plans to do when her gets out.

McKenzie (MAC) story is heart breaking being constantly on edge and not feeling herself worried she will spoil her family’s image. She is smart as hell and get lead astray by her best friend and more like a sister Gia . She has such a hard time dealing with feeling sick all the time and know that there isn’t anyone to help her her family don’t want to deal with her and there is only one person that seems to see her for who she is but its not the person she is suppose to have a relationship with…….

Gianna (GIA) is a self-centered brat who likes to control everyone especially Mac. She can have who ever she wants till the one day the one she wants says No. So she decides to get him back.

This book is full of lies, deceit, and manipulation.

For me I started to read this book not knowing anything about the story line. It had me hooked from start to finish. Jettie had me feeling so many emotions during reading this book I felt anxious when she was I felt Horney when she was (he he) and I cried when she was feeling pain for something she thought was long gone. I finished this book feeling happy, torn for not knowing whither certain people ending up together was healthy together but they were happy.

I loved this Book it was brilliant and made me think the whole time I’m interested in reading Gia side and seeing if it is as mind blowing.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have been given the chance to read the ARC for this book.

To say that I was blown away is an understatement....yes I am a fan of all her work and would read anything she sent me. HOWEVER, I am that reader that stays away from hard to read material typically; but I am so glad I didn't turn this one down. If you have read Underestimated or UT then you know her twist and turns of gut wrenching emotion already. I can't believe that I am about to say this but I might just love this one better than those...I know I know I am shaking my head too!!!

I don't ever write spoilers in my reviews because frankly I want you to feel every emotion I felt without knowing its coming. But take my word for it....you want to grab it the minute it comes out. I read it in ONE day because I couldn't get my mind off of it. I was literally rocking myself on the couch as I read and didn't even realize it until my husband asked me what the heck I was doing. It was my connection in the moment to Mack. I felt as if I was sitting right there with her heart broken that I couldn't fix it. No one truly ever knows the battles that others around them fight daily. Or how others actions impact our lives forever....but the old saying "the truth shall set you free" has never been more fitting than in this book.

One piece of advice...don't skip ONE tiny detail as you read. There will be times you think you know what is around the corner but believe me Jettie Woodruff doesn't ever let that happen. The detail is like none other I have read and I still feel the need for therapy.

It's simply an unbelievable read

Well I have to say this book was way better than Gianna's side. We get to see a completely different side of Mack. Some parts of Gia's side related to Mack didn't add up. Those are all well explained here.

At first I thought this book is going to be just another repeat of Gianna's side from Mack's POV, but it was COMPLETELY different. Mack is grown up here. A few parts of their childhood are shown in flashbacks. But thats about it.

I strongly recommendrecommend reading Gianna's side before reading this. Because only then you can truly appreciate Mack's difficulties. The best thing I liked about this book was watching Mack struggle with herself. Her helplessness, the way her mind played tricks on her, her not being in control of herself.....they are really well portrayed.

I truly sympathize with Mack. Gia was just a vengeful girl making tons of bad choices knowingly. Mack didn't have the liberty to actually make choices at times. Her problems were real and genuine. I especially liked the ending even if I am against those kind of relationships.

So all in all....I'm glad I read this. I would have given it 4 stars. But there are certain taboo things that I'll never be able to even accept fictiously.

I can assure you though, if you're a fan of angst and can stomach a bit of gory things....you'll love it.

I have to say that in true Jettie style you never know what twists and turns she has planned to keep you on the edge of your seat. Mack' s side of the story tells you of her life as a child growing up next door to her best friend Gia. Their relationship is typical of any child growing up who does everything her BFF does...except in this case there are many occurrences that aren't typical. Both girls go through life seeing it as a competition of who the best is who's parents are the best, who is going to the best college...However, life isn't that way. As Mack and Gia grow up things begin to change between them...with one lie, one omission in court, several lives are destroyed...hmm....who you ask...read and find out. No, I'm not going to tell you, but I promise you won't be disappointed. When you finish you will ask WTF and be scratching your head wondering what did I just read!! Jettie, I loved it and can't wait to see what you write next!
