Niall is book two in The Irishmen Duet by Melanie Moreland. I loved the first book in this series, Finn. But I have to tell you...I loved loved loved Niall. He is so funny is his dry way. This book was so sweet and swoony. Also suspenseful and steamy. A lot “S” words. My favorite ones.

Story pin image

Niall Black is thirty eight years old. He is the right hand, best friend, and cousin to Finn O’Reilly. Niall has watched the men closest to him fall in love. But he believes himself incapable of such a thing. He will find a willing partner when he needs one but otherwise, he is very happy with his life. Alone. But then something happens he doesn’t understand. When he, Finn and the others rescue the women from the traffickers, as soon as he lifts her into his arms, he is overwhelmed. He wants to protect her, to nurse her back to health, to be there for her.

Anna Lewis is twenty six years old. She had been held captive for weeks before Finn, Niall and the others saved them. When Niall picked her up, she felt safe, comforted. As their time together grew, so did her feelings. But Niall insists it’s nothing more than wanting her safe. That he can never truly give his heart to anyone. And when danger once again finds her, she knows it will be Niall that will save her.

You might be wondering why I said that this was funny. Niall actually made me laugh out loud. He was so perplexed at his own reaction to Anna. Any man even looking at her for too long sent him into a fit. And he couldn’t seem to stand to be away from her. Watching him figure things out was so much fun. Don’t get me wrong, these men live in a dark world and don’t hesitate to do anything it takes to keep the people they care about safe.

Both books in this duet are wonderful and you won’t want to miss either one of them. I hope you love them as much as I did.

I affectionately call this type of hero a "loveable, oblivious, idiot" because everyone and their sister knows Niall is head over heels for Anna from the moment he holds her in his arms. He's protective, supportive, and try as he might, he can't let her go.

That being said, he takes far too long to realize it and that did lead to my slight frustration with him. It's like, Niall, you're a sharp guy, do you not know what it means when you can't be away from the girl for more than an hour? You're obsessed bro! Take that girl home to Ireland and make her your bride! Haha!

Jokes aside, this book does have a harrowing beginning. Anna has been kidnapped, pushed into enslavement and was only hours away from being auctioned off for the sick enjoyment of the most vile of men. Her bond with Una was very understandable and I'm glad they had each other to lean on. Niall was smitten, right from the start and he took such tender care of her. Giving her a safe place to heal and eventually start to move on.

I find that Melanie Moreland writes very "sweet" Mafia romance and both the Men of the Falls duet and the Irishmen duet are a great place to start if you want to dip your toe in. Or, if like me, you just want a less dark version now and then.

Narrated by John Lane and Maxine Mitchell, who do a lovely job, as always. I do think that the accent of the side characters seemed to change from book 1 at times. A great listen overall.

4 Stars
2 on the spice scale

CW: kidnapping, enslavement, threat of SA, drugging

I love the lively debates - Team Finn or Team Niall. Trust me, I wouldn't turn either of them away as once again these book boyfriends have me with the case of the big old swoons.

The appeal of Niall is that bad boy, not made for relationships crashing on the first sight of the heroine. That connect - soulmate it screams - he can fight it but fate will win.

Anna is a victim of a traumatic experience in book one (Yes, I insist you read these as intended). She is healing but has a soft spine-she embraces her femininity but has steel when called upon.

Once again this storyteller has made 'darker' 'mafia romance' accessible. With stellar storytelling, plot that moves, and characters who win your heart, this duet is one for the bookshelves, and on my re-read list.

Audiobook review:

What can I say about the dynamic duo of John Lane and Maxine Mitchell. They deliver the best performances. Make the reader feel part of the scene and can hear the richness of the characters Irish background.

Niall is the second book in The Irishmen duet and slightly overlaps with the first book, so I would recommend reading Finn first. I am loving Melanie Moreland’s sweet mafia men. They will steal her heart.

Niall is Finn’s right-hand man and best friend. He helped Finn rescue Una from dangerous people in the previous book, and they also saved Anna from the same kidnappers. Anna immediately felt safe when Niall saved her and offered her a place to stay. Anna works through her trauma with the help of Niall and her new best friend, Una. She starts working in the casino and falls hard for Niall.

Niall doesn’t think he can really love anyone because of his past relationships, but he can’t stay away from Anna. They fall hard and fast for each other, and his protective instincts kick into gear, especially when a threat returns.

This audiobook was narrated by John Lane and Maxine Mitchell. They both did such a phenomenal job with the Irish accents. It took this book to the next level, and I highly recommend the audio.

Niall by Melanie Moreland
4/5⭐
2/5🌶️

If you’re looking for a sweet mafia romance, this book is one to check out! I enjoyed how it was filled with action, fast-paced, and still giving us great character depth and growth. If you read the first book, you already know that Niall is Finn's cousin, best friend, and right-hand man. During their mission to rescue Una (Finn's girl), they end up rescuing Anna as well, who has been in captivity for quite some time. Right from the start, Niall feels a strong connection with her and finds it hard to let her go.

Niall has been through a few rough relationships that make him doubt his ability to find happiness in love. He watches Finn and Una share their beautiful journey, and while he’s happy for them, he convinces himself that he’s just fine on his own. Even though he can’t help but feel drawn to Anna, he struggles to accept that it might be love. I had a good laugh when Finn kept showing him just how wrong he was about that!

Anna has faced some tough challenges in her life. After losing her parents, she tries to move on, but then she gets captured by an evil guy. After her rescue, she has nightmares and finds it hard to socialize, but with Niall, she feels safe. She knows he’ll always have her back and protect her no matter what. I loved how protective and sweet Niall is with Anna. He’s always there to help her heal and support her. Plus, the friendship that Anna builds with Una is heartwarming—they became close during their time in captivity, and it grows. The ending is just so sweet and satisfying! I loved that both couples got their happily ever after!

For a man who says he can only care for Anna, not love her. Niall takes a bit to finally admit to himself that he does and can love her. He thinks his world is too dangerous for them to be in a relationship, what he doesn’t get at first that it is that very world that finds not only the first time, but when she gets taken again. Anna and Una have a bond that no one can break. Just like the ones that Anna has with Niall and Una has with Finn. They all get a happy ending and one that they all deserve.

Niall picks up like we never left Finn and Una's story. Lucky for us they made sure Niall didn't leave their story without bringing Anna into his.
As Anna and Una begin to work through their trauma, regain some of their independence and still stay safe, can they also stay vigilant with our shutting down with every new person they meet?
Of course let's not forget their protectors especially Niall, we knew Finn wouldn't let Una out of his sight but his best is proving to be even more protective than he is. But will it be enough?
Well this is where things get really fun, feelings are shifting, new players are emerging, some of them are definitely making me uncomfortable.
This is the part of the story I can't wait to get to, and see how Mrs. Moreland ends our journey. Will it be two extremes or some stealth and a secret get away?
I mean I know, and I'm not telling you, so no spoilers but they just keep getting better.
I'm sad Niall is the end but have really enjoyed The Irishmen.
I have voluntarily left this review.

After reading Finn's story, I’ll admit that I read this one like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don’t think I took a full breath until closer to the end, when all the danger had been eliminated. But in the midst of it all is a beautiful story with a woman in desperate need of healing and a man who doesn’t think he has the capacity for love.

It's no surprise that peril abounds when men from organized crime are involved. But that danger brings Anna Lewis into Niall Black's life. He's not sure what to do with her, but his protective instincts are out in full force. He wants to see her heal, keep her, safe, and he inexplicably wants to keep her in his sight at all times.

Between the Irishmen and the Men of the Falls, this is a world I wish would go in forever. These growly, protective men value the strong women in their lives and treat them like the queens they are. And the women's faith in their men is unshakable. High stakes, hazards, and found family are a heady mix, and you’ll love every minute of this captivating, poignant, heartfelt romance.

These Irish Canadian ‘Grey’ men own my heart. I was so excited to jump into this book with the way book 1, Finn, ended. Niall’s protective nature has always been reserved for those close to him. But when he encounters Anna he finds himself drawn to her. I was there for the touch her and perish vibes. I don’t love that trait in a hero says nobody EVER. I couldn’t get enough of this addictive book. MM penned another unforgettable story with Niall. Niall and Anna’s journey is what I call crazy beautiful. It is beautifully crafted to deliver action and excitement, sweet and swoony and so much more. There were just so many layers that had me fully invested in this couples story. It can take all my stars.

Audiobook:
I cant get enough of this book. I thought I was in love with Niall when I read the ebook but man, John Lane takes his character to a whole new level that had me melting into a puddle. He nailed the Irish brogue. Reading words such as feck, mo mhuirnín and cack doesn’t hit as much as when Niall (John) says them. I’ve loved every audiobook this man has narrated but this has to be one of my top 3 faves by him. And then there is Maxine. She took Anna’s character and does what she does best, owns the role and became her. The casting couldn’t have been more perfect. This story is beautiful and the performance these narrators gave was spot on. These two performers will always be my all-time favorite dynamic duo. This is a must listen to audiobook!.

🎧📚AUDIO & EBOOK REVIEW📚🎧

I really enjoy the way Melanie Moreland writes these mafia duets. She writes them with the typical mafia aspects but doesn’t cross into dark and depraved. That’s just a general observation of the overall feel of her “mafia” romances, but the duets also hold something special. They’re like one story but really two. You could read them on their own, but no. LOL They don’t make sense that way. But, aside from that I like that she stops at two. That I know of, this is only her second, but she’s followed the pattern with both. Dark mafia romances, for me, are the kind I enjoy but I don’t want to read ten books about a family because it honestly just gets to be too much. Melanie has taken this genre, written the heck out of it, and given it to us in just the right amount of dosage. They’re a #winner no matter what :) Never too much or too little; just the right amount!

Niall picks up right before the ending of Finn and right away you will not be able to not root for Anna & Niall. Their connection was palpable and that is all on Melanie’s word wizardry. She crafted scene after scene between these two that built their connection. She made it seem like they’d been in each other’s orbits forever. I was very impressed because it was authentic. I felt it. I felt all of it.

There’s the usual plot-points and whatnot but what really impressed me with this story is what I’ve mentioned above. I said this before, if you’re not new to this genre, you’ve read some variation of this storyline at some point, and that is perfectly acceptable because it’s how the author conveys these same storylines that set them apart and Melanie Moreland knows how to set herself apart! #trust

🎧 Narration by 🎙️John Lane & Maxine Mitchell🎙️ was, as always, on-point. They’re a great team and they’ve proven that time and time again. They are both excellent narrators that I’ve had the pleasure to listen to countless times and of course, it’s always nice to know that when I pick up a Melanie audiobook, I’m gonna get an excellent performance (because she uses them all the time lol).

First, I fell in love with Finn, and now Im obsessed with Niall! These Irishmen have me utterly consumed with anything and everything about them and their world. Oh lets not forget about the wonderful women who actually get to keep them!

It's not cheating of both boyfriends are in the same series, is it? I hope not because I'm definitely claiming Niall right along with Finn! Niall is such a big, loveable teddy bear with his darling Anna, but he also is tough, protective, and downright lethal when it comes to anyone who wishes her harm. Anna may be sweet and vulnerable, but still so strong. With all that she went through, things definitely could have been different. This, for me, was an emotional story in so many ways. I laughed at Niall (his denial, and possessiveness without realizing it), I was heartbroken for Anna, I was freaking angry at one point (won't say what because it will be a spoiler), and then I was so freaking happy by the time it ended. The suspense and spice were just delightful additions to an already incredible love story.

Audio Review:

Maxine Mitchell and John Lane have become my top narrators. They way they brought these characters to life was absolutely fantastic. Maxine had me feeling all the feels with Anna and John Lane with his Irish brogue, and intensity was not only sexy but also very realistic.

NIALL is the second in Melanie Moreland’s Irishmen duet. Niall Black is Finn O’Reilly’s best friend and faithful second in the corner of the Syndicate they lead. He’s never turned his attention to anything or anyone else, convinced after a few relationships that ended poorly that he isn’t meant for love and happiness. Annabelle Lewis simply had the misfortune of being targeted by someone evil. Thankfully when she is rescued, Niall and she find a connection that sustains them moving forward.

Melanie Moreland writes Niall and Anna’s story with her terrific balance of over the top sweeping romance and tension inducing suspense. I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in one swoop. I also loved the glimpses of characters introduced in previous books. Looking forward to whatever Ms Moreland writes next!

Book 2 of the Irishmen picks up at the end of book 1 (Finn). To get the most out of this book, make sure you read book 1. This is an instalove romance. John Lane having a conversation between Niall and Finn with 2 different Irish accents is SCRUMPTIOUS. And Maxine is a queen, purposefully pitching her voice slightly higher to represent Anna's innocence.

This book is simply addicting. I listened to the entire book in less than 24 hours. We have another green flag morally gray male character. This is also an age-gap and Mafia romance. Niall is the protector Anna needs to gain her confidence back. Anna cracks open Niall's heart with her sweet nature. I loved it! Thanks to Melanie Moreland for the chance to listen and review.

ARC/ALC Review
Release Date: June 19, 2025
Narrated by: John Lane & Maxine Mitchell
Tropes: Morally Grey | Crime/Syndicate | Sworn Off Love | Found Family | Touch Her and Die | Alpha Male/Protector | Heroine in Peril | Opposites Attract | Close Proximity

After enjoying Finn, I was excited to dive into Niall, the second installment in The Irishmen series. The story picks up right after Una’s rescue, shifting focus to Niall Black—Finn’s loyal right-hand man—and Annabelle Lewis, the woman who never expected to find herself in the center of a criminal underworld.

Niall is all discipline and control. He’s built his life around loyalty, power, and order, with no room for messy feelings or emotional entanglements. That all changes when Anna enters his life—unexpected, vulnerable, and fiery in her own right. Their connection is instant, and while Niall tries to resist, his protective instincts (and heart) have other plans. When Anna is taken, he becomes a man on a mission—and nothing will stop him from getting her back.

Compared to Finn, Niall and Anna’s relationship felt more grounded and less dramatic, which gave it a nice contrast. The fast pace, suspenseful plot, and perfectly timed spice kept me turning pages. It’s a solid, enjoyable read, though for me, it lands around 3 stars—good, just not as emotionally gripping as book one.

The audiobook absolutely elevated the experience. John Lane’s Irish accent gave Niall the edge and charm he needed, and Maxine Mitchell once again delivered a smooth, emotive performance that made Anna easy to connect with.

If you’re into alpha protectors, found family vibes, and romantic suspense with just enough heat, Niall is definitely worth the listen and read.

Thank you to the author agency and publisher for the ARC and ALC.

5 Star Review Niall (The Irishmen duet #2) by Melanie Moreland

eBook/Audio :
I could not wait to dive into Niall Black and Annabelle Lewis’s story. It was everything I was expecting and more. Having met both in Finn’s book I was excited to see what Ms. Moreland had in story for Niall and Anna.

This book picks up where Finn’s left off so if you haven’t read Finn, then STOP as these two books need to be read in order.

After rescuing Anna and Una, Anna connected with Niall as she sees in him the n man who saved her. For Niall there is something about Anna that calls to him despite the fact that he doesn’t do relationships.

Anna needs Niall emotionally and physically and he does whatever he needs to do to give her a sense of safety and security.

However fate had other plans for Anna and once again she is put in harms way. It will be up to Niall do everything he can to save her once and for all.

The narration by by Maxine Mitchell and John Lane was brilliant. Their voices are easy to listen to and they did justice to the characters and the story that Ms. Moreland wove. They brought out the passion, danger and emotions that Niall and Anna both went through and I was riveted to their performances.

I don’t normally gravitate to stories where characters are morally grey, but this author’s writing is so compelling that I knew I had to read this duet.

𝐍𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥 is book two in the Irishmen duet. Although the story is a mafia romance, I found the story of Niall and Anna to be heartwarming. Their bond was formed from a heroic act of Niall saving Anna from her kidnapper. Despite Niall's reluctance for serious relationships, Anna manages to find her way into his heart.

𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐚’𝐬 strength and resilience throughout her ordeal were admirable. I loved her connection to Niall. I loved that Niall protected her and helped her heal. I was glad to see her find happiness with him.

Thank you for the ARC Melanie Morland !!

I absolutely loved this book! Niall and Anna were such an amazing couple. The instant connection and need to protect Anna that Niall felt was so swoon worthy.
He thinks he is unable/can't love, but when he meets Anna, all bets are off, and he is a full blow romantic that would burn the world down to protect her.

Anna has such a strength in her that she doesn't realize she has. With the horrible ordeal she went through, seeing her take back her power and work through her fears and get a HEA with Niall made this book that much better.

I very much enjoyed seeing Finn and Una again, and i really loved the friendship and bond Anna formed with Una.

This was a great end to the series, and I could not put it down. Once again, Melanie Morland has delivered another fantastic book!

I loved Niall when we met him in Finn (book 1 of the duet) and the minute he rescued Anna, I knew we were in for an epic love story, and as usual, Melanie Moreland surpassed my expectations.

How Niall was all in before he even knew it, how Anna, still scarred from an awful experience and deep rooted fear, showed a quiet but deep strength as their story unfolded. I love it when a man thinks he's unable to love when he's so deep in it, he can't think straight.

The suspense kept me on my toes until the end, and I truly think this story needs to be consumed on audio - John Lane and Maxine Mitchell were spectacular (how John Lane managed not only two Irish accents but how to make them totally different)

Canadian Gray is still my favorite Moreland color. I loved both books, but Niall totally stole my heart.

Carrying on from where Finn left off, this follows Niall and Anna. Anna had gone through hell and now finds safety and comfort with Niall. Other feelings are starting to bloom and Niall lives in the land of Denial for a while. He was hilarious, one minute saying he’s only helping Anna, the next ready to go to war over Finn paying for her new clothes. I do love a protective man.
This book felt like it flew by. There was healing and hurt/comfort, an amazing friendship between Anna and Una, and some mafia revenge to round everything off. Both of the books in this series were a good time.

I listened to the ALC copy of this book narrated by John Lane and Maxine Mitchell and it was perfect 👌

I love me an Irish accent and there was plenty in this story, there is just something about it.

Niall instantly latched onto Anna as soon as he rescued her from an obsessive madman, Anna did the same. He swore he wouldn't allow anything to hurt her and he would protect her.

Anna feels peace and protection with Niall and doesn't want to leave his protection even though he denies their connection.

Their connection is sweet, strong and spicy.

I loved it. I definitely recommend 👌

Niall is the second part of Melanie Moreland's The Irishmen duet. I was so eager for this continuation. It carries on immediately following the end of Finn. Una has been rescued, but she wasn't alone. Anna was there. Terrified, malnourished, hurt, alone. She clings to Niall, feeling a compulsion to be near him. There is a safety in his presence. Niall's protective nature was always there, but the trait is front & centre from the second he lifts Anna into his arms. Their story was engaging and captivating. The audio was grippinh. Hearing John Lane produce 2 different Irish accents for Niall & Finn, pronounce the Gaelic terms of endearment 'chef's kiss'. Maxine Mitchell brings so much emotion to her performance of Anna. Together they are perfection.

A mafia romance that felt more like a novella than a full book, I read it in maybe 90 minutes. The romance between the two main characters was instant (even though the FMC was just saved by him after being kidnapped????- no extreme attachment there or anything) and the plot was lacking. It went you saved me- I love you- he thinks he’s not good for you- just kidding he loves you- oh no kidnapped again in about 30 seconds. Also, I knew the twist as soon as the one character entered the story. The book has good reviews so maybe it’s me lol

ARC Review: Thank you so much to Melanie Moreland and The Author Agency for sending me a copy to read and review.

Niall is the second part of the Irishmen duet. This is Niall and Anna’s story. I’m a fan of insta love when it’s done right, and in my opinion, it was done correctly.

After saving Anna, Niall feels an overwhelming need to protect her. He’s a man who doesn’t think he’s capable of loving anyone but his mother. I really liked how Anna broke down his walls. I also liked how Finn helped him to see what was right in front of him—such good character development for this morally grey man.

Anna is such a sweet character. She takes Niall’s overprotectiveness in stride. I loved her friendship with Una. I love the banter between Anna and Niall.

I thought I had the plot twist figured out, and for the most part, I did. There was definitely a piece of it that still surprised me.

He saves you from being kidnapped and tortured and you healing each other ? Yes, please! Add to it an amazing Irish accent and mafia secrecy and you’ve got a wonderful story. I do recommended reading Liam before this one as there are some plot points that make more sense if you have that background. Both books are just a wonderful read!

I always recommend the audiobook if you can but for these books it’s a requirement. John Lane and Maxine Mitchell with Irish accents had me spooning during the dialogue that I needed to repeat a lot of it 🤣. Do yourself a favor and listen to this story because it’s worthwhile.
