In an alternate-reality fantasy world, four special +Anima beings, who possess animal-like characteristics and are shunned by "normal" society, travel to find others like themselves and seek to gain acceptance in a world cruel to anyone or anything that is different.
Cooro and Husky aren't like other boys. They're anima, children with animal features and qualities. After breaking free of their servitude at a cruel freakshow circus, they go on a journey in search of others like themselves. Cooro is a crow and Husky is a fish. As they travel the world doing good deeds, they recruit a bear boy, a cat woman and a bat girl. Together they get into all kinds of wacky antics while fighting against the oppression their kind faces on a daily basis.
The low rating isn't because this series is bad, it's just extremely cliche and childish in my opinion. I think it would be good for young kids who have no experience reading manga. It's extremely light, simple, easy to follow and doesn't contain anything overly violent, dark or sexual in nature. For someone like me who generally reads books and manga with excessive gore, dark themes and adult content it definitely didn't appeal to me that much, even though I was in the mood to read something lighter than I'm accustomed to.
Not a bad manga, just not for me. Even so, it's undeniably cute and wholesome. I think it would appeal to kids and young girls, especially if they have minimal experience reading manga.

We get to read about the rest of Senri's story, my poor tiny bear cub. Then we start to uncover Husky's past as well once we find out to whom he was sold. It leads to a bunch of shocking discoveries as we sneak around the Sailand royal palace.
Help comes from an unlikely place but sometimes you have to be careful whom you trust.
I love these books! They are so adorable and lovable. They are well-thought out and interesting and wonderful. Her characters all seem so real. They all have problems and really specific and personal histories that go back pretty far. Her characters aren't perfect, and she is able to make them come to life and feel like real human beings. I love the idea behind this manga. I love the idea of being able to transform into an animal and have cool powers and be special. (I wish I could do it. That would be so cool!) My best friends gave these to me to read. They were the first manga I ever read in my entire life and I didn't get it at first. They had the books and I tried reading it, but I couldn't figure out how to read it backwards, and so the first book they read it out loud to me <3 Aren't they sweet? Anyways, I decided that I wanted to continue reading them online, and I was just planning to just look at +Anima a little bit and I ended up reading like the first 7 books in two days (It would've been sooner except I had school and sleep and whatnot, stupid distractions!) Senri is my favorite!! He is so adorable! I definitely recommend these books to those who love mangas, and to those who love animals, and to those who love interesting stories. This is a very good series with wonderful writing and amazing art!
Only knowing that Husky was taken as slave by the King of Sailand, Cooro and the gang devise a plan to break into the castle and take Husky back! But it turns out Husky already had his plan set out from the moment he was sold to the King-- and he doesn't want to go back! Husky is actually a Prince of Sailand who was thought to have drowned himself a year ago. Husky wishes to find his mother somewhere in the castle and speak with her one last time to tell her that he's alive and healthy and he wants her to be safe and careful of her rival Queens. Also, is Crystala more than just a wealthy peddler... but rather, royalty?!
My reviews are getting really bad. They are so short and poorly written now. It must be all these damn essays my teachers have been assigning me. They're tiring me out, mang! *Sigh*. Anyway, I was a bit distracted while reading this volume, however, I did quite enjoy it. I was surprised at what Husky's mother did at first, and even though she made up for it I still don't like her as much now. She's still kind of cold. But that makes sense, her and Husky are very similar in that sense. Perhaps the only reason Husky still has a warm heart is because he is still a child. How sad is that? I think that Marein would have been a good mother, but, oh well. C'est la vie.
In truth, I wasn't terribly surprised by the revelations about Husky's past. He acts too haughty not to be some kind of noble. I was shocked and disappointed with how his mother and father treated him. I guess I can understand from the point of view of their culture, but still I can't imagine disowning a son for being different. +Anima aren't monsters (some of them are bad people, but that's true of any group). The biggest problem I had was that Husky didn't reveal what happened to anyone. Maybe he was protecting his half-brother, but I still would have said something.
"J-just don't do anything crazy!" "At times like this, I ONLY do crazy things."
I adore Cooro.
Quick thoughts: My favorite volume yet. It's is entirely devoted to concluding the story started in volume 7 about Husky's homeland and past, and there's a ton going on. Several twists and numerous characters with different motivations and opposing goals and ideologies, and yet it's all very easy to follow. The characterizations in this series are excellent, and Cooro in particular is just pitch perfect.
That would be the back-story to how Husky became a +anima. Every single one of these back-stories are just so tragic. I really feel sorry for these kids, but they seem to be happy and accept who they are now. Husky was a prince for crying out loud, but he walked away (well, technically he swam away). Maybe these kids can free the +anima from being slaves in a better manner than Katana seems to be using.
This book swept me away to this other wonderful world. The setting was brilliantly set. I could totally see it in my mind. But the characters were definitely my favorite part. They are all so colorful, interesting, exciting, and hilarious. The main character is just perfect. The plot moved fast enough that I couldn't stop reading lest I miss something, but the author still took the time to flesh out the details. The details are what really make or break a story.
It was very interesting to learn about Husky's past, especially since he is my favorite character. I really love how the series is starting to pick up the pace, with each volume revealing more and more of the character's histories and who they are. All that's left now is Cooro! I'm desperate to find out how he became a +anima. Hopefully it is revealed in the next volume!
