In a city where power buries wicked truths, one lawyer’s fight for justice could destroy his family name—or redeem it.

Defense attorney Hank Luger turned his back on a high-powered career in D.C. to come home to Savannah. Trading glass towers for row houses, he opens a small office beneath the moss-draped oaks of the historic district. He wants to downsize—slower pace, fewer hours—and be closer to his ailing mother.

A quieter life was the plan…

But Hank setting up shop in Savannah unsettles the city’s legal elite, and puts him on a possible collision course with his estranged father, George Luger—the city’s former DA, a man with deep political ties and even deeper secrets.

Hank’s first case is to help a young woman who reported an assault, only to find herself struck with excessive charges. The authorities' pursuit of her is ruthless. Why are they determined to destroy her?

Then comes the case of Pharaoh Williams, a man on death row for killing two teens years ago. The DA at the time? George Luger.

Hank's reluctant review of Williams' case soon becomes a race against time. He uncovers buried evidence and threatened witnesses. Powerful forces from both sides of the law rise up against him. None of them want to see this case reopened. Where Hank's father stands remains unclear.

Under threat and attack, Hank forges on, fighting for his clients.

But every step brings him closer to a devastating family secret—one that will force him into a personal

Fight for justice… or protect the Luger legacy.

Once again, J.J. Miller delivers—with razor-sharp writing, high-stakes courtroom drama, unforgettable twists, and characters you’ll root for long after the final verdict.

Perfect for fans of John Grisham, Robert Dugoni, Peter O'Mahoney and L.T. Ryan.

Excellent legal thriller! Hank Luger is a hero.

JJ Miller is my favorite legal thriller author. Lawyers in his books are smart and stay with the story not like some characters who allow female characters lead them away from their mission. Always read his books non stop, no putting them down

Well, this is a pretty good read different from the normal defense prosecution type courtroom, drama It involves around winning a decision after 20 years of incarceration. I was disappointed in the ending simply because I think it wasn’t very fulfilling for me. Basically, this is a good book well written, and enjoyed it very much but different.

good book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was nice following Hank’s life and career but it didn’t get to what happened with Hank and Amelia finding a house for them and his mother. Since it says book 1, I’m assuming there’s more than just the one book in the series.

I picked up J. J. Miller’s, “The Midnight Lawyer,” this week for some fun reading. Hank Luger, defense attorney, has spent twenty years successfully practicing law in Washington, D. C., but returns to his home in Savannah, Georgia, to be near his aging mom. He quickly finds himself battling some dark and powerful forces, including some of his own family, as he fights for justice for a death row inmate, and, also, represents a young lady who has been raped by the son of a powerful local criminal. I enjoyed the fast-paced story, his characters, and his writing style, and I am sure that I will be delving into the author’s other series. (394 pages)

One Really Good Thriller

First book I have read by this author, but definitely not the last. Entertaining from first word to the last. I love Legal Thrillers, and I have to say this book was better then some others I have read. A real page turner. One never knew what was about to, happen. Cuddos to Mr. Miller for writing a true Legal Thriller..

midnight lawyer

Thrilling pace. I can’t wait to read the second one. I would recommend it to anyone who love legal thrillers. Would suggest putting a cast of characters with brief descriptions at the beginning. I had to keep looking back to remember who was who.

Great book

Excellent! Finally a book that you can enjoy! Great writing. I read another book by another author before this book that was not good. Had to stop reading it since it kept mentioning what the main character was thinking of his thoughts on women. Not nice thoughts either. I was surprised that that book was on Amazons reading list. This book was perfect.

Riveting

This story is full of crime, deception and many twists and turns. The main character is a defense lawyer that comes back to his hometown. He sets up a law office and takes on a rape case and a wrongful conviction case. It is a wild ride from there.

Twists, Tension, and Total Addiction

The Midnight Lawyer is a fast, gripping read that hooked me right from the start. JJ Miller does a great job balancing the courtroom drama with the personal struggles of the main character, making him feel real and relatable. The story moves quickly, with plenty of twists to keep you turning the pages, and it has that darker, edgy vibe that makes it stand out from typical legal thrillers

A very intriguing story.

The author has written a great story of how the rich and powerful were able to dictate and control everything that happened in the city, even who would change and convicted of murder until Hank Luger returns to challenge the status quo’s.

The Midnight Lawyer is the first book in a new legal thriller series from author J.J. Miller, who consistently turns out one exciting novel after another across multiple genres. Attorney Hank Luger leaves a well-established career in Washington DC and returns to Savannah, Georgia to be nearer to his mother. It also brings him back into the orbit of his father, the retired District Attorney whose influence and reputation looms large over the legal landscape of Savannah. When Hank agrees to take on a review of a death row case his father prosecuted, legal and family chaos ensues. Miller, as always, does an outstanding job of weaving a complex plot that leaves us guessing about the identities of the real heroes and villains in this convoluted case. The Midnight Lawyer is an exciting and satisfying read that is also thought provoking.
