Being oblivious her entire life has finally caught up to Daniella Alverez as questioning events started to erupt around her. Unknowingly, her mother had placed a deathly burden upon her shoulders just before her death, resulting in hundreds of thousands of the most powerful crime groups in the world to seek the power behind it, and willing to destroy and kill anyone who will get in between them. Chaos has erupted and only pushed Daniella to a life she had never dreamed of. These elite criminals want her head delivered on a silver platter, and no one has any idea as to why.
To survive, Daniella is forced to her limits.
Find everything from a crime and mystery, an edge of the seat thriller filled with twists and deception, and a romance that keeps the pages turning. Ascension, book one of The Freedom Series.
I’d give this book a 3.75 rating. The first 35% felt a little clunky with the timetable. I almost wish the first part was told as a flashback BUT the second half of this book was great. I enjoyed the action and found family aspect. Definitely will be reading the next book.
The first 100 pages I was like what is going on?? & I think it would have been good to be separated as a ‘past’ & ‘present’ time line (HOWEVER I DO SAY NOW 100% GO IN BLIND!!!) & MY GOSH… the turn around and how on the edge of my bed I was throughout this whole book.
This is a series that will have you emotionally attached to the characters. I went for a drive between reading this & all I could think about was Gavin???😭
‘Shorty’ 🫠🫠🫠🫠 every dam time.
I cried my dam eyes out at a specific scene & I can’t stop thinking about it & like how do they recover???😭😭😭
I’m sorry but this was fucking incredible & made me realise how much I love a good crime/mafia romance book and an indie author??? Amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. There were a few times where there were shifts between past and present tense, but it didn’t divert my attention. I loved the progression and the shifts, which is saying a lot for me because mystery and thriller usually aren’t my genres of choice, but Acension sucked me in. I can’t wait for book 2!
This book is a compelling and thought-provoking series that weaves together elements of mystery, thriller, dark crime, slow burn and personal growth. The story is set in a richly imagined world, where the protagonist embarks on a transformative journey, both external and internal. Daniella is complex and relatable, facing challenges that not only test her strength but also her sense of identity and purpose. The themes of self-discovery, destiny, and the battle between good and evil are explored with depth, but the book never feels overly heavy-handed. Instead, it balances introspection with action. One of the book’s greatest strengths is the writing style. The author has a knack for crafting beautiful, evocative prose that paints vivid pictures without bogging down the pace. The dialogue feels natural, and the characters’ emotions come across as genuine and heartfelt. There are moments of high tension and excitement, but Ascension also takes time to delve into quieter, more introspective scenes that give the story emotional weight. The pacing is generally strong, with the tension building steadily as Daniella’s story unfolds. However, there are moments where the plot slows down slightly, but it provides valuable character development that enriched the overall experience.
4.5 STARS! OMG WHAT A RIDE! i was definitely not disappointed with this book! I can’t wait for the next one to see what happens!
Daniella Alvarez, I could not have loved a female character more than her. She’s everything we can truly imagine and relatable since she was practically thrown in. We see her traits beforehand and how technical and wise she is. To see that grow and used within the group was so fun and as well her physical training was so entertaining. Gavin, omg Gavin I love him so much. He is such a tease and flirt with Daniella. He is also so protective of her and is always there when she needs him the most.
“You have no idea how long I waited for this moment. For every effort it took for me to find you, all I had to do was look up. You are my life, Dani."
The story was so entertaining, I was wanting to see what happened next and how she is tied into everything that is going on. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the next book. I loved the found family aspect and she was able to have that especially after what happens with her dad.

My grandma met this author at a festival where she was selling her books and bought me one and it was so good!! The only thing was some of timing was confusing, but it was a very exciting and action filled story with a very touching message about trafficking. I can’t wait for the next books because this one left me on a cliff hanger!
From start to finish this book was incredible. At the beginning it was hard to get where it was going, but the suspense really built up. Daniella was hard to not love, but being able to see past the mysterious Gavin made it that much better. The story gave a nice mix of mafia meets cartel meets romance. Can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!
I am so in love with this book. The ending has me impatiently waiting for book 2. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of what is to come! I am definitely going to be recommending this book to anyone that will listen!
It’s a great read, it does have some typos and grammar issues, but if you don’t look too closely it’s a story that brings out emotion. I found myself crying at a few parts and laughing at others. I would have like more from the main characters romantically, but we do get a pretty good slow burn.
I absolutely LOVED this book. I read it within a day - what a great read. I immediately ordered the second book - can’t wait to see where this series goes. 😁
It took me a while to get into this book, however many reviews said to just preserve with it. I don’t like the way the female character was rushed into the thick of the gang and it frustrated me with how little preparation she required to be able to fight
Got this a local festival from the author; it’s definitely a slow burn and the beginning was a little confusing, but it’s a great read and I connect with all the characters; I cried. So good - will be getting the second book from her next month.
