From top three amazon bestselling author Tylor Paige, comes a new horror romance about two star-crossed lovers whose love for a tale told 100 years ago convinces them to rewrite the ending, no matter the cost.
Gatsby- The world has found me guilty of heinous crimes that aren't mine. I've been called the beautiful monster. A man with a craving for flesh, but darling, it's not your liver I want. It’s your heart. You were the first person to look past my pretty face and see into my soul. With your messages, you soothed a brewing beast, and allowed me to dream of a life greater than what I had. Please, understand, to get my shot at my dream, my green light, I needed to take the fall for this. But I know you're waiting for me, Daisy. And if you aren’t? If you’ve met someone else? Well, that will be rectified.
Daisy- I had no one, until you. Isolated, I was the ballerina trapped in a jewelry box, hidden away from a world deemed too cruel. You helped me escape my golden prison; but the moment we were free, you chose a path so shocking that even speaking of your crimes sends me spiraling-- and not in the way a prima ballerina is meant to. You ask me to wait. That when you get out, all the people who have wronged you will get what is earned, but how long do I put my life on pause for someone on death row?
What exactly am I waiting for? Your dream, or mine?
Beautiful Little Freaks is a horror romance retelling. It features one couple, and has an HEA.
Growing up with a teenage mom who insisted she be raised knowing all about 80’s and 90’s pop culture, Chicana author, Tylor Paige, should have known she’d inevitably write books inspired by that. The fun (rockstars), the hot (Goblin Kings), and the scary (Slashers).
When she’s not writing about girls railing the villains, she enjoys watching horror films, sewing, comic books, and spending time with her writer tribe, Michigan Romance Writers. At the time of this update Tylor has now written and published Ten full length novels, and is currently pursuing a career in horror romance, where, honestly, she should have been in the first place.
"The green light meant more to us than anything. It's what kept us hoping, kept us alive."
Daisy and Gatsby, what a story. It was different from the other books I've read from Tylor, but I did end up reading it in one, long, sleepless go. This is a horror romance/dark romance retelling inspired by The great Gatsby. Filled with tr!gger heavy content (c@nn!balism, SA and 🍇 to name a few).
In this book you'll find: 💚Dark romance/horror romance 💚Second chance 💚Shes a ballerina 💚He’s a convict 💚Both have trauma, his is darker 💚Vengeance 💚They'd die for each other
If you're ging to start reading this book: be sure to come prepared with drinks, snacks, maybe a blanket and definitely some time. It's a book that will be hard to put down. Special mention for the side characters: I loved them.
OH. MY. GOD. this wasn’t like anything i was expecting !!! i absolutely ate this up and i wish i could read it again for the first time 😭 the moment i read the tropes i just knew i would fall in love. thank you so much tylor for giving me the chance to arc read. i seriously can not stop thinking about this !!
this is a dark twisted retelling of “the great gatsby”, dark themes including self harm, cannibalism, torture, violence, murder, cheating (not between mcs), branding, sexual assault, abortion, homophobic and transphobic comments from the villain (not love interest), child trafficking, and abuse. with tropes that include childhood friends, billionaire ex-con mmc + ballerina fmc, second chance, yearning, dark pasts and trauma, they would die for each other, “it’s always been you”, flashbacks, duo pov 💚
daisy and gatsby both met online at such a young age. they were both searching for an escape from reality and found each other. daisy needed to be free from the prison her family kept her in and gatsby needed a reason to fight and stay alive. they both have such dark pasts. the things gatsby was forced to do … omg i just want to hug him 😭 his story needs to be heard and he deserves the whole world. he is such a beautiful character. when they made a plan to finally leave together, gatsby knew he needed the money to support daisy in becoming a ballerina. he didn’t expect the deal he took would instead ruin his plans to run away with her. and when many years went by of the whole world thinking he is a cannibal, he waited for the right moment to get his girl back only to find out she’s engaged to someone she doesn’t even love or have any attraction to. gatsby becomes one of the richest man known after getting out of prison and has a thirst for blood. daisy embraces her darkness whenever she’s with gatsby. she’s the most happiest with him but she’s still holding something back.
i absolutely loved their chemistry and how their relationship began, where it paused, and how they found their way back to each other. gatsby’s past is so heartbreaking. and for daisy to find him during that time, i literally couldn’t stop crying. omg i love them. the way i literally devoured this 😩🙌🏼 not only did i love the main characters but also jules, tuth, and neal !!! they are so wonderfully written that i would do ANYTHING to have a story about them. especially jules 👀 what do you mean this man “knows people” to have dinner parties ?!??
i know i’ll be thinking about this book for a long while omg
Daisy and Gatsby have a very unique and beautiful kind of love.
I’m so impatient when it comes to learning what truly happened and yet my guesses were almost always wrong. Though, I definitely preferred what happened over what my guesses were.
I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
This book was unique to anything I have ever read before! Its giving all the Gatsby vibes tied into dark romance/horror. Make sure you check your trigger warnings before you start! These tow characters fell in love and leaned on each other through their trauma and never stopped loving each other.
I loved how beautifully written this story was , it was full of passion and a dark and twisted read. This read was unique and a great time. I loved the ending of it !

He was her Gatsby, and she was his Daisy. Two kids from different walks of life who became each other's Green Light. They thought they'd found forever, until it was ripped away from them. Gatsby is in prison, and the media are saying that he did terrible, terrible things. Daisy has no choice but to move on with her life, but she doesn't want to. Her heart belongs to him and nothing will change that...or will it?
This was my first Tylor Paige read, and it most certainly won't be my last. While I've never read The Great Gatsby, I do know the basic premise of it, so when I saw a sign up for this book that was toting it as a Great Gatsby retelling but give it a sprinkling of horror, I was more than intrigued, and let me tell you, this was exactly what it promised and I freaking loved it. I was a little bit worried, simply because, I know how the Great Gatsby ended, and I was concerned that this would go the same way. I'm not going to tell you whether it did or it didn't, you'll have to read it to find that out. But this book made me feel a lot of emotions, and after being on a pretty solid horror kick for like 3 years, which shows no sign of slowing down, I wanted to sprinkle a bit of something different in there to break it up. This book was not fluffy, it was not romantic in the traditional sense, it dealt with tough subject matter, but did so in a tactful way, and it was quite bleak for most of the story, but it was filled with emotion, depth and a great character driven story which I was here for.
The characters were well written, I thoroughly enjoyed Gatsby, and most of his staff if I'm honest. This was a character with a past, someone who had experienced severe trauma from such a young age, yet while it was the reasoning behind a lot of his choices in life, he still had heart, he still cared and was incredibly generous and kind in different ways. I loved how flawed he was, how his character really made me think about the morality of what he was doing, attempting to put myself in his shoes and to think about how I would feel or handle things. I'll say this, Gatsby was a much stronger character than I think I could ever be given his circumstances. Daisy was also a character who had dealt with trauma, though trauma of a different kind. I really loved how Paige illustrated that trauma comes in many shapes and sizes, and one size does not fit all. Everyone experiences different things, and it affects people in different ways, which makes them deal with it differently as well. I loved that there was such a strong illustration on how it doesn't matter if you're working class, poor, or have more money than you could poke a stick at, bad things happen to people, and your social class or financial situation has nothing to do with it. I really hated Daisy's fiance. He was slimy, vile and just downright horrid. The reason for my lower rating was purely because of my frustration at Daisy through the latter part of the story. She had so many chances to walk away from the situation that she was in, but she stayed. I had to remind myself on numerous occasions that there were valid reasons for her staying. As well as the fact that I believe she was trauma bonded to the vile cretin. I get that. I know how that feels. She felt trapped, and for all intents and purposes, she was, standing outside of the situation, however, she had an escape, but she was too afraid to take it initially. It wasn't until the last straw, where it was someone else in danger, that she took her stand, it goes to show, and we see it so often, a lot of times, women won't leave for themselves, but they'll leave if it means they save someone else. What does that say about society? What does that say about the way we as women have been conditioned? It's terrifying when you think about it. And this is what I love about book. While some people will read this and see a horror romance and that's it, others, like me will read it and find deeper messages and meanings, whether they were intended by the author or not. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading a book for pure enjoyment, I do it all the time, but sometimes a book will come along and really make me think. I love that. I loved the inclusion and I loved Tuth and Daisy's cousin (I cannot remember their name for the life of me).
The story itself, while it had a lot of similarities to the story of the Great Gatsby, I feel that it really stood on its own and gave us a deep, dark tale of love and what you're willing to do and forgive for those that hold your heart. As said earlier, it deals with some heavy subject matter, it's not sugar coated, but it's not used as shock factor either. I supported Gatsby's choices 100% the whole way, and it was a ride and half finding out the different bits and pieces as we went until we had the full picture standing in front of us. I loved the way that the story went, I feel like it worked so well. I did feel like the ending was a tad bit rushed in a way, but I honestly don't think that any other kind of ending would have worked at all. I loved how Daisy and Gatsby constantly referred back to the source material as well. Paige did a fantastic job of creating a gorgeous amount of tension, not just in the spice, but in the lead up to the characters crossing paths again, it was driving me certifiably insane, and I loved every second of it.
I don't want to say too much about this lest I give something away. If you're out for a dark romance that gives a big nod to a classic piece of literature, that deals with heavy topics with tact and keeps you guessing with how things are going to play out. Pick this one up. As said above, this was my first Paige read, and it most certainly won't be my last.
I DEVOURED and CONSUMED every word in this book in one damn day.
Knowing very little about the The Great Gatsby vs knowing it well .. I’m not sure which perspective would be most welcomed in giving insight on Beautiful Little Freaks. So I will say that I have never read the original story and I vaguely remember the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and do mean vaguely. So heed this disclaimer when reading my review
Gatsby and Daisy find themselves in some shit in the start of this story and makes for their future they dream of having postponed as Gatsby is sent to prison. I am a SUCKer for someone being brutally murdered in the beginning of a book. BLOODshed from the very beginning grabs this reader immediately but add the CONSUMPTION of flesh to it and this reader is utterly hooked.
I very seldom choose to dive into a book 400 + pages cause that’s usually a sign of a slow burn and I am not shame to say I’m not a fan. But with this book… I sat and DEVOURED it in one day. I spent my entire Saturday trying to find a chapter or a place in the story where I could perhaps stop and revisit and I absolutely could not. My full blown attention was dedicated to this book. It seemed that every chapter ended on a cliffhanger of DELICIOUS drama and What the F plot twist. The author made it impossible to stop.
I was literally on the edge of my seat or I was pacing my house reading this book. I FaceTimed my friend and we sat and ordered in burgers and buddy read this story like there wasn’t laundry to be done and errands to be ran. When I tell you no adult responsibilities were accomplished it was all due to this book.
Could.Not.Put.It.Down.
There are some dark storylines so check your triggers.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this, but as a Great Gatsby lover I was obsessed with the idea of a dark retelling of it, especially in time for the centennial anniversary of its publication, and jumped right onto applying for an ARC. I’m so glad I did because you could say I ate this book right up. This was not a lighthearted read, so please do check the TWs, but it was such a unique and intriguing retelling of an incredible classic. Young Daisy and Gatsby find their plans for the future abruptly halted when Gatsby is sent to death row for the murder and cannibalism of a famous billionaire. However, the green light keeps them both hoping and their spirits alive, waiting for each other. Gatsby returns, suddenly exonerated from his crimes and with billions to his name. However, it seems there may have been some truth to the crimes he was accused of, and Daisy is hiding secrets of her own. There were so many twists and turns throughout this book and I can truly say I’ve never read anything like it. The trauma, the undeniable love, the vigilantism, the side characters, everything was so well written and immersive, I couldn’t put this book down, and when I absolutely HAD to, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Before I was even halfway through I stopped for a moment so I could order the special edition physical copy. The Great Gatsby explores political themes, and Beautiful Little Freaks does as well. It’s evident Tylor put so much heart into this story, and loves Gatsby so thoroughly. I loved reading this story of these carefully crafted characters getting their green light.
Thank you to Tylor Paige for allowing me to ARC read this incredible book! It was an incredible read I adored every second of.
So this was different than Taylor Paige’s other work. Yet, I do recommend reading the TW!
“𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩?”
I was absolutely amazed with this retelling of The Great Gatsby. Taylor Paige knocked it out the ball park with this one. Do you believe in the green light? Why yes, yes I do after reading this book! I read every chance I could, because it had me sucked in! The characters were amazing. Well there were a couple I just felt like punching in the face! Lol. Yet there was character growth throughout the book! The plot of the story was great. The twist and turns were fabulous. BLF had an eerie mystery, which will keep you guessing! It was dark, but had just enough spice.
Gatsby and Daisy were everything. Their undeniable love that they have for one another was heartfelt. From teens to adults they’ve been through enough hardship and obstacles to deter their relationship, yet fighting for the green light was worth it all.
If you like⬇️ ✨Second chance romance ✨Gatsby gets a HEA ✨Shes a ballerina ✨He’s a convict ✨Both have trauma, his is darker ✨He’ll do anything for her, even d!e if he has to ✨So will she
Beautiful Little Freaks by Tylor Paige Coming April 10th!!
5⭐️/5 2🌶️ /5
Thoughts -
I literally devoured this (pun intended!) - check your trigger warnings this book is not for everyone! Beautiful little Freaks is a dark, twisty, re-telling of one of my all time faves, The Great Gatsby, with Phantom of the Opera & Silence of the Lambs-ish vibes (yes, cannibalism!) I couldn’t put this down! And for a completely unhinged spin on a classic novel it was PHENOMENAL!
This was different than anything I’ve read by Tylor, (and I’ve been in her street team since Slash or Pass!) it was a lot less smut based and a lot more plot/character driven and I’m totally here for it! Don’t get me wrong when done it was done well, but the character’s relationship didn’t seem solely based on that! Which I appreciate! I adored Gatsby’s character - his past completely crushed me, but it definitely made for an amazing piece of the story once he was ready to take his revenge on those that hurt him! This story had so many twists and turns, even at the end my jaw was still on the floor! I will definitely be displaying this book proudly next to me million copies of The Great Gatsby 😂 and can’t wait to see what’s next from Tylor!
Tylor, the passion you write with can always be felt whenever I pick up one of your books. This was no exception and the emotions I felt reading this book will stick with me. I honestly could not put this book down. It tickled the mystery and wonder in my brain of needing to know what was going to happen. I had no idea if I was going to get a happy ending or be shattered to pieces at the end of my journey. Gatsby and Daisy found each other online as teenagers. They both had their own struggles growing up and came from different social classes. But to them it didn’t matter. When an event took place that separated these two from seeing each other, it set a course in both their lives that drew them away from their green light. The back and forth between current events and past experiences really made me feel for Gatsby and Daisy. The things they both went through and had to fight internally, just to get to where they were was devastating yet they didn’t give up. The darkness of Gatsby’s past leads to some interesting extracurricular activities that I fully stand behind. He protects the innocent from the evil untouchable rich and gives them the justice they deserve.
“The green light meant more to us than anything. It’s what kept us hoping, kept us alive.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Wow.. that’s all I can say🤣 This story is a great gatsby retelling but think horror romance/dark romance. This was everything I didn’t know I needed! I devoured this is in about a day and a half and I couldn’t put it down! I don’t want to spoil it and say too much but gatsby?! 👀🖤
Themes/tropes: - Dark romance - Second chance - Touch her and die/ they’d die for each other - Vengeance - She’s a ballerina and he’s a convict
There are some VERY heavy themes in this book and there are trigger warnings mentioned! Some of these include SA, r*pe, c@nn!balism (just to name a few). Please check these before you read! 🖤
Seriously though.. she’s absolutely killed it again and I’ll be in a reading slump for a while and recommending this to anyone who asks 🥲🤣
• This story releases April 10th! On the 100 year anniversary of The Great Gatsby 🖤
This is long overdue and I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since I finished 😩😭 The great gastby is one of my favorite classics and the movie is also one of my favorites of all time. So put that and make it a dark romance retelling?! SIGN ME TF UP!!
⟢I loved these characters, the plot was such a lovely homage to the original story and characters I loved seeing it throughout the entire story. Their chemistry and the way they relationship started out, where it got messed up, and finding their way back to one another? Perfection. Cried at all of gatsby’s past chapters because his past was like a@punch to the gut and he deserved so much better😩
This is a dark retelling of “the great gatsby”. Dark content and tropes including self harm, cannibalism, branding, murder, cheating (not between mcs), ballerina fmc, second chance, friends to lovers, violence, torture, and much more. Please read full cow before reading, you’re mentally health should always come first❤️🩹
This book was absolutely FANTASTIC…..all the stars available
I completely devoured this book while on vacation in Mexico within 48 hours I was not familiar with The Great Gatsby but oh my am I a fan!!! This was so perfectly written, just the right amount of spice, angst, twists, on the edge of your seat what is going to happen boom Each chapter leaves you wanting more…..I couldn’t believe how quickly I read it There wasn’t anything slow or dragging about this book, from the first chapter you are hooked and transformed into another world……and I didn’t want to leave
There could be some triggering things within the book so check triggers and read responsibly
What a beautifully tragic and twisted Gatsby retelling.
The way Author Tylor Paige intricately entwined this story so flawlessly with her signature touch of unhinged horror is phenomenal.
The amount of detail that this author packed into this book… you feel like you’re watching it all unfold before your very own eyes.
The MC’s have very Daisy and Gatsby qualities but then this Author takes and creates this modern day tragic love story.
How this Author manages to have me thinking that yes I would in fact look past this MMC’s hobbies… because he sounds that dark delicious we all love our book boyfriends to be.
I also enjoyed all the support characters and their banter and shenanigans…
This book literally will chew you up and spit you out… and you’ll enjoy every second of it…no pun intended.
This is a truly fantastic re-imagining of The Great Gatsby. Tylor has a way of captivating the stuggle between the different societal tiers, and why someone would make life altering deals for a chance at the change that someone of a higher social standing can provide.
Tylor also does a fantastic job portraying that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
If you’re looking for a Gatsby retelling with a happy ending, tons of spice and amazing character arcs… this is for you.
Horror/ dark romance Check triggers !!! There are some dark elements.....
I ate this book up so fast!!! Devoured it !!!! Read in less than 24 hours ... Gatsby retelling ... omggg sooo good ... great story line and loved the characters ..including the side characters... and their stories and relationship ❤️ spicy scenes to heat this book up throughout too !!! 🥵🥵I need mooorreeee Daisy and Gatsby!!! One of my favorite reads so far ❤️
This is an advanced readers copy review. Opinions as always are my own. I read the Great Gatsby in my honors English class in high school, and I remember really enjoying it despite it being "old" (yes I described it that way, I was 16). Tylor's dark retelling knocks it right out of the park. I was so happy to see trans representation in this book--tylor is one of few inclusive dark romance authors. I loved everything about Emile, even though he low-key scared me at first. I love his dynamic with Daisy, and I thought it was really cool that their relationship spans all the way back to when they were kids. I love that this book is explicit about political messages as well--reading is inherently political. I also thought it was dope that the author pays homage to the Hannibal series with this story. Was also cool to see in this retelling that Daisy and Gatsby getting a good ending.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Beautiful Little Freaks was an interesting retelling of The Great Gatsby that will keep you guessing. As someone who still has my original copy of The Great Gatsby I read in high school I knew I needed to read this one. I love the way it was given its own interpretation and spin as well as plenty of amazing quotable moments for me. Let’s just say I’ll always support a good “Eat the Rich” moment.
I love this book so much! The story line, the plot and the way it’s a Gatsby retelling was perfection. I ate this story up and once I started I couldn’t stop. I loved every single bit of it! 10/10 a must read!
I liked the aspects of the book, but I did not love it. At times I felt like I was waiting for stuff to happen and others I’m wondering what is going on. I feel like was the little metal ball in the pinball game.
ARC REVIEW I literally stayed up so I could finish, it was so good 😩 definitely on my recommend book list. The plot twist and surprises are everything. Y’all are gonna love this
Definitely my new favorite book by Tylor Paige. This was amazing. I could barely put it down and if sleep wasn't needed I wouldn't have. I love every minute of this emotional roller-coaster.
The suspense, the story, the twist and turns. I ate this tf up! Once my migraine went away and I could sit and read more than just a few chapters at a time, I devoured this. Tylor did such an amazing job with this story, she is one of those authors I will read anything she writes, and I am slowly making my way up her list. This book is extremely dark. So please read the triggers before you start because it's definitely not going to be for everyone.
This was a hard to get through read for me. I loved the plot and MMC, but I couldn’t stand the FMC. The story itself was good which is why I gave it 3 stars but it felt like a lot of filler rather than story. This may be someone else’s great read but for me it was not. I do think you should read it for yourself and not base my review on your decision.
If you start this book thinking you know what’s going to happen, I promise you, you don’t. I went into this totally blind except for a scan over the TWs (which are again not what you’re expecting). The Great Gatsby premise really drew me in because how could that get incorporated right? But it totally worked. If you’ve read the book or watched the movies you’ll catch the references pretty easily, and even if you haven’t it’s not necessary to enjoy it. This is also my first book from Tylor Paige, but not my last. The story was imaginative and compelling. The characters were dynamic. If you’re looking for spice this book has it, but even if it didn’t have any, I don’t think you’d miss it. I’m just impressed all around, and I can’t find anything I would change about it. Highly recommend! 4.5/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️
Thanks to the author for a copy of this book. My opinions are completely my own.
Wow! This story was so good! This is my first Gatsby retelling and I absolutely enjoyed it. Daisy and Gatbys story was just amazing. There were so many obstacles but they fought at each one. So good! Highly recommend!
I devoured this (pun intended). I absolutely loved this spin on The Great Gatsby. An OH MY the secrets that which Daisy kept… my heart breaks for the shitty hand in which Gatsby was dealt, especially as a child.
