4.5 ⭐️ | Whew, this story was very intriguing as readers get a first person point of view in the mind of a stalking, serial kill3r. I definitely had my theories of what was happening and of course, I was wrong. I loved the alternating POVs between the FMC Margot and Jack, as well as the alternating timelines that were parallel their views.
When Margot returns to her hometown to investigate the unsolved murd3r of her aunt from years earlier, she tires to keep a low profile. But soon the junior sleuths & obsessed crime fans knows that she has returned. Being the one who found her aunts body, she was center of the murd3r investigation, which is why she is peeking everyone’s interest & now she is wondering who she can trust!
The suspense is in this story was relentless, and every chapter peels back another layer of emotional trauma. I really enjoyed Nicole Annbury’s writing style and I will certainly be reading more. Was very surprised to find out this was her first novel, but her debut came with a bang! Recommend for fans of crime thrillers and that enjoy stories about serial unalivers!
I had the privilege of receiving an ARC of this captivating book!
There are quite a few elements to this story. Complex and multifaceted. Hooked me right in. The alternating time-line is expertly done, as is the twists and turns and the back and forth through the years. Nostalgia moments sparked some fond memories from my youth. Lots of work has been put into this book and it shows. The attention to detail is exquisite. I felt like I was in the mind of the serial killer! Unique or old-fashioned sayings pop up here and there. The characters are so well described. I enjoyed every moment of getting to know each one of them and what makes them tick. I did not want this book to come to The End!
This is a debut book. It reads like it is written by an experienced author. I am excited to see what else she has in store for us lucky readers!
If you like to be scared, intrigued, and have a roller-coaster ride of emotions, then this is the book for you!
Holy cannoli. There's a new thriller queen in town, and her name is Nicole Annbury!
I have been anticipating this release since I first heard the story idea about a year ago, so I was honored to receive an ARC.
Annbury does a masterful job of building suspension--giving away enough details to keep you turning pages but not so many that you aren't left guessing. I found her prose descriptive but succinct in the best way; everything has a purpose and drives the plot further.
The setting of Cape Ivy came alive as I read. I appreciate the visual details and being able to see a movie in my mind as I read.
I feel like Annbury's trademark could be psychological studies. Getting in the mind of characters--especially those who are a little twisted (and that's an understandment!)--is so challenging. To capture the essence of a believable antagonist is a true feat. I can tell this story was well researched and thought out.
This is Annbury's debut work, and I'm excited to see where she will go from here! I'm looking forward to more drama in Cape Ivy!
I was lucky enough to be chosen to read a copy of “The Final Sentence” prior to its June 2025 release date. I’m always skeptical when I read debut novels because you have nothing to compare them against, however it’s exciting to read the writing of a brand new author. This book did not disappoint. You’d never know this was Nicole Annbury’s first novel because it reads like it’s been written by an established and experienced author. The storyline sucked me in immediately and I literally read it in one day because I could not put it down. Loved the storyline, loved/hated the main characters, loved the twists you didn’t see coming, and loved the author’s writing style. I’m confident that anyone who reads this will enjoy it too. Kudos to Nicole Annbury for a great debut novel.
What a debut!! I have been so excited to read this and am so happy to say I finally have! The Final Sentence is such a fun thriller and I had a total blast reading this! I really enjoyed the pacing of the story, never a dull moment and it really set the tone for the whole book. With so many characters in a story it’s easy to lose the individuality of some but Nicole has written such complex characters who definitely feel like the type of people you’d run into in a town like Cape Ivy! Being from the area I really enjoyed the touches of “ home” and how nostalgic the setting was. I had my suspicions of characters at times and no one ever truly felt safe, which made this all the more fun to dive into. I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here and read more from the author. If this was the debut I’m sure we are in for some treats along the way! Thank you for the ARC and I can’t wait to share this story with friends!
After two years Margot returns home to seek help in solving her aunts murder. There were no leads in her aunts murder and police were unqualified and understaffed to investigate a murder of this magnitude. Margot pulls resources from a true crime forum which leads her to Dr. Williams a professor with a reputation as a prominent figure in the true crime world who studies unsolved cold case files. The road to catching the killer is a treacherous path of evaluating the mind of a killer. Margot is persistent in her search for justice for her aunt. … The Final Sentence is Nicole Annbury’s debut thriller. She’s already working on book two. Margot’s character is consumed with researching her aunts murder. She’s listened to true crime podcasts familiarizing herself with how others talk about murders. Margot joins a classroom discussion about murderer. It’s in these settings where we find like minded characters sharing in the same trauma. … I appreciate the time Nicole Annbury took to bring awareness regarding the importance of finding justice for not only Margot’s aunt but the many women who suffered the same fate. The content was graphic and violent in nature. This is as real as it gets. It’s one of those reads that once you gather all the information you’ll appreciate the big picture once it’s revealed. It’s presented much the same way a detective must feel when trying to solve a murder. The pieces collected don’t amount to much until they have all the pieces assembled together. There’s nothing quite like getting inside the mind of a murderer. Nicole Annbury’s play-by-play is on the scarily vivid side. It was terrifying how descriptive the scene about Nadine was written bringing with it a vision I want to erase from my mind. … Nicole Annbury presented strong storytelling abilities. The attention to detail is superb. Getting into the minds of her characters was exquisite. Through the eyes and mind of a killer brought chills down my spine. Knowing who the killer was hadn’t hindered the process because this was more about Margot’s journey and her ability to heal from the loss of her aunt.
Debut authors are always a bit of a risk since there is nothing to compare them to, but Nicole Annbury has made me a fan with her first book! The writing is tight and thoughtful and the pace hits the gas early. The plot bounces around over a couple of different timelines, but is easy to follow. There are enough twists and turns to keep things interesting, but not so many to distract from the main storyline. Also the Choke Mask Killer has a terrifying M.O. and gave me a new phobia.
My only complaint is that the book had like 5 endings, where after the main story wraps up we get a closing chapter for each character. I’m not sure that there is a better way to tie up loose ends and each chapter seemed important, but the last 20 pages of the book were my least favorite because the pacing fell apart a bit. The author did set up a sequel in the last few pages, however, which I’m excited for. 4.5/5 stars
I received an ARC copy of The Final Sentence by Nicole Annbury, I knew it was a thriller but it was much more.
The story follows Margot, whose is an avid True Crime follower, because she found her aunt murdered in their small town, by a serial killer, and she’s determined to solve the crime.
The story follows several time lines, and several third person POV. The story line was somewhat predictable however there were two surprises that I was not prepared for.
I will warn you, this book does cover child abuse and wrongful religious views on punishment on children. I did have a hard time reading it, although it is brief; and it does have a point to the story line.
3.7⭐️ , it was a little to predictable for me, but I it had some great twists that I did not see coming.
Overall I enjoyed this book, it was an easy read for a hot Texas night. Definitely will be adding this author to my TBR for her other books.
This book was a fast pace thriller with multiple POVs.
Margot discovers her aunts body and returns home when her identity is released on an online platform and she is determined to become a voice and find the killer of her aunt who is known as CMK.
The storyline goes back and forth from different povs from Margot trying to figure out who murdered her aunt to the killers storyline and what lead him to becoming CMK.
There was one murder in the book that happened that shocked me towards the ending when the truth was revealed.
definitely a great read, I was honored to have been given this eARC and come across this author and I look forward to more from her!
Annbury masterfully tells the story of Jack, the Choke Mask Killer, whose thirst and desire to kill women — specifically those who live alone and follow strict routines in Cape Ivy, Missouri — is so real that it felt uncomfortable to read. The way Annbury takes us from telling us about the victim’s life and final day to how quickly that breath is taken away is more than enough to keep me turning pages. You get to relax a bit with chapters following Margot, the niece who found her beloved aunt, Jack’s first victim, but not for long. Soon enough, Margot is feeling threatened, too. Solid debut: to make a thriller heart-felt and heart-pounding is impressive work by Nicole Annbury!
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review!!
3.75/5 rounded up to 4⭐️
This book was pretty dang good! It had me right from the beginning and the hits just kept coming! The writing was fantastic and the flow was perfect! The characters were well thought out, and had great depth to them!
However the book was pretty predictable, and I called out just about everything that ended up being revealed towards the end so I had to dock for that.
I definitely recommend reading this book for its fast pace and intriguing story! I loved the whole true crime spin!!
After finding her aunt dead in her home, Margot flees and goes into hiding. A couple years later, she's back home on Cape Ivy and determined to find her aunts killer, especially now that he has struck again.
Told over the span of quite a few years, this book follows two people. The first is Margot, who finds her aunt dead with some kind of mask over her face. This part follows her as she tries to live in a world where her favourite person no longer exists, and tries to figure out how to move on with her life. The other part follows a young boy named Jack. We follow him as he grows from an abused child to an angry adult. Reading his chapters was pretty tough at times, given the pure hate in his heart. This was a great read, although the pace was a little slower than I usually like. A solid debut, and I look forward to what this author does next.
I had the pleasure of reading this book on ARC for a debut author!
I can say I haven’t read a book quite like this one, it gave perspective, however in 3rd person. From Margot, the niece who found her aunt deceased. Jack, the villain who hates women, to other main characters throughout the story.
The story was enjoyable and kept a great pace, the only thing I would change, and this may be Personal preference- is the chapter names.
I will be looking for other books by this author in the future!
One day, Margot goes to visit her aunt only to find she has been brutally murdered. Join Margot on her journey trying to come to terms with the death of her beloved aunt and the fact that her killer is still roaming free.
This story has many twists and turns. Nicole does a great job portraying the emotions felt throughout this novel. She also does an excellent job showing the development of a serial killer.
It is hard to believe that this is a debut novel!! It read as though the author has been writing for years. Not only did it keep me interested, but scared me to death! Only one other book has had me double checking my locks before going to bed. I often read psychological thrillers, but this one was really good. Early on it put me in mind of Karin Slaughter. Do yourself a favor and give yourself a good scare with this one.
For a first time author, this is one heck of a novel. I found myself caught up in the story almost immediately, and the pace almost never slows up. All of the characters are well drawn, especially the character of the killer who was such a frightening and interesting character that I would read an entire book just based on them. The time jumps in the novel itself are easy enough to follow and never really interrupts the flow of the story. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who likes crime fiction.
Goodness me, this book is both a pageturner and one that gets under your skin in such a way that you want to put it away but also can’t!
Nicole Annbury’s descriptions are deeply immersive, but what impressed me most is her ability to make each character, from protagonist to minor, be incredibly well-rounded. What a feat for a debut novelist!
This is the authors debut and upon reading you would never know. The psychological thrills and twists and turns will have you on the edge of your seat. The twist at the end...I never would have guessed. I highly recommend this book to add to your library or Kindle. I can't wait until the follow up.
Thank you for the ARC. This was my first book by this author but won’t be my last. The story line held my attention and was a quick read. I really felt for Margot and could put myself in her shoes, not so much Jack.
Its fast pace and captivating storyline had me hooked from beginning to end. There’s so much depth with engaging characters from their different perspectives.
Nicole Annbury does a wonderful job of pulling the reader in with her vivid descriptions and imagery. I could easily visualize the scenes in my mind’s eye.
The Final Sentence has me wanting to read more from this talented new author!
The Final Sentence is chilling, twisty, and impossible to put down. Nicole Annbury delivers a dark, gripping thriller where every character is layered and every secret matters. The suspense had me racing through the pages, and the reveals hit hard!
My first Nicole book—and definitely not my last. Fast-paced with dual POVs and a killer twist I didn’t see coming.
Margot returns to Cape Ivy to face her past and uncover the truth about her aunt’s murder. But a masked killer is stalking the town, and no one is safe.
Secrets, suspense, and a race against time—this thriller kept me hooked from start to finish.
Thank you so much @nicoleannbury for selecting me to be an arc reader for you!
Nicole Annbury writing style will have readers turning pages.! Well written and storytelling is strong . I really enjoyed not knowing lol until events actually played out. Looking forward to reading much more from Nicole Annbury , in the future. Must read story .!
“ In some ways, the confined walls of Gemma’s existence were a comfort to her. Because she was the only person she could fully trust.”
The Final Sentence by Nicole Annbury is a gripping, suspense-filled novel that kept me turning pages until there were none left to turn. From the very first chapter, Annbury pulls you into a world of uncertainty, danger, and psychological tension. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, another shocking twist turns everything upside down.
But beyond the pulse-pounding suspense, this is also a powerful story of survival and resilience. Margot was put through unimaginable trials, and her strength in the face of adversity is both inspiring and emotionally affecting. At its core, the novel asks a haunting question: Who can you really trust?
Annbury’s writing is sharp and immersive, drawing you in and refusing to let go. I couldn’t put it down. If you're looking for a thriller that’s as thought-provoking as it is intense, The Final Sentence is a must-read.
I am very excited that I was picked for this ARC book by Nicole Annbury. She is now one of my new favorite authors. The story line sucked me in very quickly. A lot of twists and turns that I did not see coming that kept me from putting it down. I’m looking forward to reading more books by her. Your debut book is a definite hit and a must read.
This thriller was full of suspense and mystery. I liked reading the different pov's (especially from the killer). The way the author wrapped up the entire story and solved the mystery was perfect. Really enjoyed this book!
Whew, this book is full of twists and turns! I love all things true crime, thriller, suspense and this book hit it all for me. The book captivated me right away and had me dying to know how it ended.
This book has multiple POVs: Margot, Jack, and Gemma.
Margot has returned back home years after she had found her aunt murdered. She has kept a low profile and stayed hidden, but now she is back and wants to find out who did it. Soon her identity is revealed and her life is turned upside down again. She becomes friends with true crime junkies Gemma and Carter or the Crime Three.
Jack..in the beginning you really feel sorry for him. He had a very rough childhood and upbringing. Buuuuut this kid was psycho from a young age. And as he got older, it just intensified.
Gemma…I was not so sure how I felt about her. She made me have suspicions from the very beginning. And as the book went on, I went back and forth between thinking she was good or bad.
The stories changed back and forth between past and present with Jack and then with Gemma and Margot. Margot didn’t know who she could trust anymore, everyone was proving to be someone they were not.
I also love that it was based in Missouri, where I live!
I was sucked in from the very first chapter! Starting a debut novel can be a little hard not having anything else from the author to base off of but this story is so well written! I enjoyed the alternating timeline, multi POV (especially from the serial killer/stalker POV), and several twists I didn’t see coming! I had my theories about half way through the book but was still shocked by the end! This read is an absolute page turner, almost keeping me up at night with the creeps and I can’t wait to read more by Nicole Annbury!
After the death of her aunt, Margot is determined to find out who killed her. This book has multiple time lines. It dives deep into the psyche and inner thoughts of the killer. CMK had many victims, but were all the deaths at the hands of him? After reading this, I’m looking forward to the next book by Nicole Annbury!
