The world is vast, filled with countless people, but each one is like an open book to me. For I am the strongest TELEPATH. And this is my story.
When I was drafted, I fought honestly for my country. I survived a nuclear war, our settlement overcame all the hardships of a post-apocalyptic world, but then I died anyway. Now I am in another world, and my new body belongs to a child with the Gift of telepathy. Moreover, telepaths are rare in this world and are considered elite mages. Wow! The prospects are breathtaking! Now I need to grow in power, develop the Gift, experiment on other minds... What do you mean, I have to go to school tomorrow? Well, then I'll start developing my Gift there.
‘Gaslighter’ is the first book in the portal fantasy series. It features clans of mages, monsters, and an unusual path for the hero to rise to the very top.

I was born in Kazakhstan in 1991, and my life's journey has taken me down many paths, from the intricacies of finance, to the realm of banking, to the nuances of marketing. But it was the realm of writing that finally captured my heart and soul. I currently reside in Belgrade, Serbia, where I create stories that resonate with my beloved readers.
This is supposed to be book one but those who have followed me for a few years know I don't consider it a book if you can't even reach 250 pages. 239 was all there is. That isn't why I only gave two stars though. There are three reasons for the two star review: 1: Horrible editing. It's almost like they used Google translate, almost. 2: Grown man in a child's body. Very few authors can pull this off. 3: Huge freaking time skip! We are at eight years old and a family is talking about possibly killing the MC then we jump seven freaking years ahead! Never heard about the murderer plot again. I was going to give one star but I was surprised that there was no graphic sex, so I gave it a second star. Yes I judged a book by its cover and was proved wrong. I was happy about this. I will keep reading the series and hopefully it will improve because it is an interesting story.
3/10 It's a mess, but if what I said above doesn't bother you then give it a try.
The writing in this story is so childish. It's almost like a 10-year-old was writing it?I'm not sure what this author was going for but they have no concept of how to compile a plot or how to put sentences together. I'm not kidding when I say that this novel feels like it was written by a young kid instead of an adult.
A very creative slice of life/isekai story in an eastern bloc setting
The MC was a highly trained survivor of a nuclear holocaust's aftermath. Radiation, mutants etc. When he finally died, he was reborn in a 10 year old's body, who shortly thereafter awoke a telepathic afinity.
The eastern bloc, parallel world was interesting as the culture was so different from American culture, yet so similar. Might still makes right, criminals prey upon their neighbors in ghettos, women get abused by drunks and the system. Even wealthy commoners pander to nobility, who do whatever it takes to remain in power while the next generation learns how to navigate those shark infested waters. While corruption, privilege and class separation are present in America, they're just even more entrenched in eastern bloc, asian and african polities.
It was interesting watching the MC interact with his classmates, their families and then the mob, quite ruthlessly, but thoughtfully. He is after all just one teen, from a commoner family with limited resourses, despite his actual power and potential. I look forward to other installments in the series.
I gave the book 4 stars..because I enjoyed it.. but to be frank..it doesn't deserve a higher rate than 1 star. The shear number of spelling mistakes etc is..outrageous. I would be ashamed to have my name attached to such blatantly poor work. It's clear the author didn't even try to proofread this.
As much as I liked it I had more than a few issues with it. The character shift from 10 to 17 needs editing and the cliffhanger at the end is crap. As well written as this is it deserves an actual epilogue. One extremely high point is the lack of typos
The book overall was good. Some editing issues which may have been a translation problem. The story moved along with simple explanations and simple good dialogue. There were some logical errors in the plot what none that derailed the story as a whole. At times the story editing seems like it was thrown together to create the chapters from multiple outlines, especially the end of the story as it was trying to set up for book two. It didn't really ruin the story but you could definitely tell the last 50 pages were a bit choppy and the different flow Pace to the first 200 pages. Overall simple fun good story and will definitely try book 2.
Like most Russian books in the genre, crime and corruption is normal, and things can be dark. Thankfully, it is not as dark as similar "Russian" worlds, and it does not dip into dispare. The MC is OP enough to beat back the bad guys and is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
I liked this book quite a bit and look forward to the next ones! Give it a shot, you won't regret it!!
Note - There are one or two cringe moments where the MC goes on misogynistic rants as he "teaches" his friend about women and their erational "emotions" and how they should never tell men what to do, but they end quickly and get back to the story. It's still worth the read, though, and those parts were so bad they made me laugh out loud.
This novel entertains on many levels. It is a fantasy taking place in an alternate Russia, but the hero originated in a Russia very similar to ours. While some of the characters are a bit different than those of us in the USA, they still have the characteristics of heroes everywhere. It was a fascinating read, probably because of the author’s unique (for me) perspective.
Will definitely read the next book and probably the series.
Typical Eastern European Novel. A competent MC attributed his knowledge and experience to his previous life, and those facts are shown through his actions.
The story, writing, and the characters are believable considering their societal status and age. But you can probably see the Patriarchal nature of these authors from that particular region if you have read a few of them. I can say that this is one of those tame ones and liberal leaning compared to the author's contemporaries in his region.
This is an in-depth portal story with the MC having the ability to read people’s thoughts and use psychic weapons very effectively. What I hadn’t counted on was the ongoing “guy comments” about women’s body parts. To appeal to a wider audience than hormonal males, it seems less of that would help
Carbon copy Russian book. Same classism, sexism, and aristocratic nonsense that is prevalent in all these books. Nothing creative or original here at all. A main character that does not act with the advanced age he is stupid to have, but the standard pride driven random actions that succeed through plot armor.
The author created a good storyline and set it against a very good background. The characters he created are fully fleshed out and believable. The proofreading, spell checking and grammar checking missed only a couple of minor errors which was well above average. This was a good work and well worth reading. Now I have to wait for book 2.
I am very happy that the author bypasses years of childhood. It makes a much better pacing of the story. I like the powers and the backstory with a good bit of character development. Looking forward to the next book. Read this one in one day, just couldn't put it down.
Cut off again on the last page where the excitement reaches for conclusion. This is an excellent story, well written, and the author is a… I’m not allowed to say. I was reading another series and he did the same thing! Read the next book. No other solution. Worth it guaranteed
I was a little put off by the title and description, but glad I began reading. Excellent plot and characters and a fascinating world/magical premise. Very much waiting for the next book.
I didn't know what to expect when I got this but it was a pleasant surprise! I expected typical alpha behavior and simpering women. Nope! This alpha isn't the typical ass spouting "You Dare" at all and sundry! It's even got humor in it! Give it a read!
I wish I could give this zero stars. I don't get it, I couldn't follow the story and gave up on the nonsense after four chapters. Just. What? Weird. So. Weird.
I really like progression stories . This looks like a new series I can get into. The book kept my interest enough that I read the whole book in one day. I will keep this one in my library to reread . I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.
I would have given it 5 stars if the hero was nicer to the one girl who really loves him. Instead he treats her like dog poop. I really hope he ends up with her in the next book. Still a great story. I highly recommend it.
Massive potential, but no grand plot. Just a series of things happening and people saying things. I mostly dislike the constant teasing of a harem and flirting, only to be repeatedly shut down over and over. This is not enjoyable for me and so I will now move on. 2 books is enough to see the writing on the wall.
I think this must have been written by an older AI, and in another language. Then it was badly translated without any edits. That is the only logical reason this could be written so badly.
Its always enjoyable to read about a new panic form of magic and the user. To see how class division even happens in the world of the rich and famous. Magic does not seem to have prejudice?
There was honestly never a dull moment in the entire book.I honestly believe that the series has potential and can’t wait to see how the cast continues to develop.
