“Shh. Get down.” The warm voice said with urgency as her hand was tugged downward.
“Don't let them find you,” he said as he crouched down with her.
She looked at him in confusion. He was still holding her hand. His touch made her skin come alive beneath his fingertips. He was covered in black and a hood was hiding his face…but she knew him.
“Who-” she started to ask but nothing came out. Her mouth just formed the word silently.
He pressed her hand into his cheek as he leaned into her touch and let out a small breath; like the breath he released was the only thing keeping him together. She watched him closely. He was savoring every detail of this moment.
“Silas?” She whispered his name finally coming to her.
“You weren't supposed to see me, little dove.” He said his face concealed as he went to stand up.
“Stay away from the crying. Do not help them. Do not go to them. Stay away from them.” Silas ordered. His tone became very harsh as he spoke.
Ryan survives a horrible car accident. A car accident that was supposed to end her life, but Death had other plans. Death saves her and now the world is spinning out of control. Ryan has a huge target on her back as Death desperately tries to keep her alive. Find out what happens when Death falls in love.
“I was torn between doing my job and rebelling against everything I stood for.” -Silas.
This was an exciting and fast paced read. The story line was intriguing and kept me turn the pages. There were many high stake, high tension moments. I liked the idea of the bond between Ryan and Silas and I loved the way the author depicted the kind of love a mother will show for their child. I loved the dark themes and emotional complexity of the characters. Thank you to SE Dymek for this ARC!
Ryan is touched by death. Having miraculous escaped a car crash that took her mother, she is trying to move on and live life but keeps having nightmares. Her nightmares are her connection with Death, aka Silas. He can't get her out of his head and is secretly invisibly watching her. When she seems to be targeted again for death, he knows something more is going on.
Silas and Ryan are almost star crossed lovers with their supporting demon "friends" of Balor and Kere. The major dark vs light arc of the story extends to everyone at some point.
I enjoyed the back and forth and different realm descriptions. Hopefully there's more character stories to come.
My book club selected this book for our October read, and if not for that, I'm not sure I would've ever picked it up. This genre is not my forte, but the plot is extremely addicting and I binged most of it in one-sitting; which really shocked me.
As expected from the title, the plot leans heavily into emotional and dark themes. Because of that, I did struggle a bit in the beginning just because it felt so heavy to read, but the ending more than earned my admiration; and y'all know I like my light versus darkness themes!
Two thoughts: (1) I'm starting a "justice for Will" campaign...poor guy didn't deserve anything that happened to him. (2) Balor's character arc needs to be studied because there is no reason he should be my favorite.
Overall, Falling in Love With Death is an exciting and fast-paced dark romantasy with a satisfying ending! It was a perfect selection for our October read!
Content disclaimers: Language includes a lot of cursing and suggestive comments. Action/gore isn't overly detailed, however there are several disturbing scenes that are briefly described that some readers may want to shy away from (especially in the nature of abuse; there are trigger warnings listed at the front of the book). Sexual content is decently high, with one fairly detailed on-page scene.
Ryan is fierce and loyal she is as drawn to Silas as much as he is to her. Silas hasn't felt anything in a long time but one touch from Ryan has him feeling everything and it's addicting but will they ever be able to be together when there are so many dark forces working to keep them apart?
Probably the first book I've read where I am rooting for a dark character (death, Balor & Kere) to get a happily ever after. A lot of drama and tension present in the book with Nyx will she succeed with her evil plans?
I wouldn't have picked this book up on my own but I'm so glad I was introduced to it! Really enjoyable fast paced story that kept me turning pages and on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next for all of the characters.
This was an interesting spin on the mythology of death and other characters related to the afterlife and other realms.
I liked Ryan as an FMC and felt bad that she had been thrown into this war without any knowledge that these myths were real life. She's an avid reader and has extensive knowledge of mythology, which we see helps her on a few occasions. She's not just a damsel in distress! Silas was an interesting main character as he shirked his duties as Death to save the woman who finally made him feel something. My favorite character was Balor, a demon who switches sides mid-way through the tale. He was funny, and still just enough of an A-hole to keep it interesting, even when he decided to fight for Ryan/Silas.
There are some grammatical and formatting mistakes in the book, but I would encourage readers to overlook them and give the story a chance. It did feel a bit rushed at the end, but overall, I enjoyed the story, even though it's a genre I don't typically spend a lot of time in.
This books hits hard right out of the gate. Ryan is an FMC who never saw anything coming for her. along with the MMC being death, who hasn’t felt anything in so long, the sacrifices he has made, the friends. There are demons, mysteries upon mysteries, the betrayal, the conniving plot that dates back centuries.
I do feel badly for Will, he didn’t deserve anything he received. at least by the end of the book he found some peace.
The secondary character story with Balor was amazing, just chefs kiss. I loved it so much it was heartwarming, and never would have happened without Ryan.

Maybe this is wishful thinking but it would be so nice to see Charon get a partner as well! He was a stoic figure the whole time in the book, he deserves a little love as well.
This was an amazing story. You can’t help but get pulled into it. Death (Silas) was such a great character. And I loved Ryan as well. Trying to navigate life after the car accident that took her mother. This had twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved all the different characters as well. So wonderfully written. Can’t wait for the next book.
A tale of twists and turns that left me wondering where, and sometimes who I was. A fabulous cast of characters: Humans, banshees, gods, demons. (‘Without the humans the gods would no longer exist’.) A thoroughly entertaining read.
Silas and Ryan stole my attention, but Kere and Balor had my heart! All the characters were great and the writer does an amazing job getting you right into the dark pull from page one.
Get your coins ready and head on over to the River Styx and get ready to fall in love with death, I know I did. I'll take Balor as my book husband anyway and okay Silas too...make my own why choose here 🥰🥰
