Jack Rabbit: Hunting Lee Child's Jack Reacher

Rate this book
The next gripping Hunt for Jack Reacher Thriller from Diane Capri!

“Make some coffee. You’ll read all night.” Lee Child

Trust no one. Find Reacher. Stay alive.

Blood sprays across an Arizona dive bar as FBI Special Agent Kim Otto's only lead is shot and killed before her eyes.

Kim’s mission to find Jack Reacher dropped her into a lethal conspiracy run by ex-soldiers, war profiteers, and government ghosts.
Following the trail of her murdered informant, Kim runs straight into the kill zone. The Lone Wolf team strikes hard, fast, and silent.
Operatives execute anyone who gets too close. Desert sand runs red as the mercenaries hunt across borders.
Disgraced NSA Deputy Director Marian Sinclair goes rogue with billions in black money. Now Kim is the target. Lone Wolf mercenaries, government assassins, and the legendary Frances Neagley are closing in.

Reacher's dangerously capable former sergeant doesn’t take orders from anyone.

Kim’s FBI badge is worthless against enemies willing to ignite nuclear Armageddon. Her only hope may be Reacher himself, a vengeful force of nature already moving through the shadows with his own deadly agenda.

The clock is ticking. The bodies are mounting. She’s out of time. She’s out of allies. And she’s not done yet.

Diane Capri has long impressed me with this series, which parallels the Jack Reacher series Lee Child made popular. Capri explores the angle of the FBI trying to track down the world's most famous nomad for their own reasons. In this piece, Kim Otto is still looking for Jack Reacher, but her latest lead has been killed in Arizona. Otto begins expanding her search, only to trip upon some highly unsavoury characters. A pile of black money, someone with a vendetta, and a pile of nuclear weapons. All this makes for a troubling set of circumstances, with little chance for Kim Otto to come out on top. Enter the power of Reacher in the shadows. Capri delivers a great addition to the series.

Kim Otto has been hunting for Jack Reacher and has been unsuccessful these past nine months. When she follows up on a lead in Arizona, a shot rings out and they are short before Kim’s eyes. It is as though someone wants to keep Reacher just out of her reach. This hunt for Reacher soon sends Kim into the middle of a highly troubled group that shoots first and asks questions later. Otto cannot let this impediment keep her from success with this Reacher mission, as each minute pushes the man further away.

News emerges that former NSA Deputy Director Marian Sinclair has not only left her job, but gone off the grid with a massive amount of black money. This tips Agent Otto off that where she had gone, Reacher could still follow. As she amends her investigation, Otto finds herself in the crosshairs of a number of evil people, including someone Marian Sinclair respected. Frances Neagley was not only Reacher’s former sergeant, but also a woman who follows no orders but her own. The next step in the path could be one that no one saw coming.

As Agent Otto discovers, someone is planning a massive strike, which could include nuclear weapons aimed at the US from a rural area in South America. Otto is out of options and friends, meaning it could be Reacher himself that must intervene. Time is of the essence and there is not a moment to lose. This could be Agent Otto’s most daring case to date. Capri delivers a strong piece here with all the needed tension.

I have long enjoyed the writing of Diane Capri, which matches the intensity of any Reacher novel. Her narrative style is quick and ever-evolving, keeping the reader in the driver’s seat as they forge onwards. Great characters emerge, both those familiar to series fans, as well as new faces to flavour the action. The little development the reader gets is balanced nicely with the ongoing Reacher crumbs that are left for analysis. Plot points serve to push the story forward and provide a great sense of surprise for the reader who seeks answers as to whether Jack Reacher will ever meet Kim Otto. I await more from Diane Capri soon.

Kudos, Madam Capri, for a great addition to this ever-evolving collection.

Jack Rabbit by Diane Capri is another Reacher related story about how the FBI is on the hunt for Jack. I founbd this one not so good, I'm sorry to say this but it's my opinion. I liked the fact that Neagley was a part of the story but maybe it's me being tired of close but no cigar. I do love series but sometimes maybe they should stop. On the other hand sometimes we all have a bad day and then it picks up again. I will read the next one and see what happens.

Jack Rabbit - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Diane Capri puts Reacher's hunter Kim Otto in a maelstrom of danger, in her international thriller Jack Rabbit.

Government agents and a secret group of their mercenaries all have a target on her back.
How is Neagley involved in the treachery of her FBI boss and those under him?

You'll need plenty of coffee handy, as you're sure to be up all night reading Jack Rabbit, when you follow the twisted trail that Reacher and others have left within!

Join FBI Special Agent Kim Otto on her captivating mission to find the enigmatic Jack Reacher. The journey kicks off in a lively Arizona bar, where a surprising twist throws Kim into a tangled conspiracy that really keeps you on your toes!

As the tension mounts and time runs out, Kim’s sharp instincts come into play, and you never know—Reacher might just lend her a hand! "Jack Rabbit" is packed with nail-biting suspense and unexpected surprises, showcasing the unyielding spirit of a truly dedicated agent. This was the best Otto book yet. It just goes to show you how dirty Cooper is. Reacher is trying to protect Otto and company from him. But great story with Sinclair trying to blackmail Cooper. Also great to see Gasped part of Otto story also. Gaspar tried to talk Otto in joining him at Scarlett but she wasn't ready. On to next chapter!!! 10 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause

Whoa! Here I thought the previous book in this series was dynamite. Wait until you read this next one. It is incredible!! Kim Otto and her partner, Reggie Smithers, are in way over their heads this time. At Cooper’s direction, they are tracking Reacher in the back country of AZ. As they begin an interview with a witness who has recently seen Reacher, the entire investigation goes south. The witness is killed, Otto and Smithers are chased by assassins, and their only clue is that they are to find Frances Neagley which readers will know from previous Kim Otto stories and from the Jack Reacher series also. An incredible search begins with familiar characters such as Brad Hooper and Marian Sinclair, who were with Neagley and Reacher in the 110th, and various nefarious characters showing up to complicate things. Chasing down complicated plots, avoiding assassins, trusting people who cannot be trusted, Otto and Smithers have to put it all together and stay alive. I’ve said this before but I’m saying it again....the characters flow together into a fascinating read that you can’t put down. Otto is finally forced to look at what has just happened, what happened in the past, and what her destiny is in the future. I am looking forward to see where this goes next. Really great series.

Not up to par

I believe I have read all Diane Capri’s Hunt for Jack Reacher series and this was a very poor outing. It is filled with multiple errors in continuity that take much of the enjoyment out of reading. Scenes where conversations are written. Next scene is essentially a repeat, same time frame with same characters but with different dialogue. Repetitive phrases as if the writer is paid per word. I lost track of the times that heat, humidity and struggling air conditioning are mentioned. Scenes where security camera imaging is cited pointing out two characters together when earlier they were clearly not at all together. Kim meeting with Cooper, refusing to sit. More than once the scene refers to her as standing, never mentioning sitting. Then the author writes about her putting her hands on her chair’s armrest. Connectivity of several characters rather sketchy. I always read the Lee Child Reacher book the Hunt For Series is based on before reading Capri’s books. Not sure I’ll continue. I do not recommend this book. I do recommend the publishers/editors review future editions and correct such issues.

From the moment you start reading this installment to the Hunt for Jack Reacher series, the action starts and doesn’t stop until the end!
Kim Otto and her partner, Reggie Smithers, are on the hunt once more for Reacher. Starting out in Arizona, leading to Boston, Miami, the Cayman Islands, and Argentina they’re pursuing the ever-elusive Reacher. Otto has confirmation that Reacher is in Argentina so her mission is starting to look possible. But with some of Reacher’s past colleagues: Frances Neagley, Marion Sinclair, as well as Brad Hooper and Paul Bennett in the mix with competing agendas, Otto has to stay on her toes to succeed. She’s also learning that everything that’s coming to a head now stems from a past Reacher mission in Hamburg, Germany, involving a treasure hunt and loads of money. The closer Otto gets to solving the mystery, she uncovers more and more buried information that leaves her shaken to her core. Can Otto survive?

Wow! This has to be the most complex mission Kim Otto has faced so far. Beginning in Arizona, Kim and her partner Reggie have some new clues and begin their hunt all over again. You don’t have to have read the whole series, but if you have, you will recognize quite a few characters from Reacher’s past. It’s a bit difficult to tell who are the good guys from the bad guys in this one, which makes it even more intriguing. She finally learns some new facts from Reacher’s past that are heavily involved in this story. Kim also learns some unknown things about Cooper which causes her to question her missions. Be prepared-you will want to read this one straight through!

This is the first of the series I have read. For the most part it stands alone. Occasionally I felt like there was something I was missing. It is a companion of sorts to the Reacher series. It almost feels like you need to read the associated Reacher book for a better experience. The story and characters were interesting. You have to be attentive to understand whose perspective each chapter is from. There were some inconsistencies in the story line. I was not quite sure if that was the characters or author. The book overall left me curious to read more.

Capri nailed it! This book has to be the best one of the series. It starts fast and just takes off from there. I absolutely love the addition of Neagley to the cast as she is from the Reacher universe. Just adds more authenticity to the series and of course her connection to Jack Reacher himself. And boy oh boy does Reacher show up when needed and then goes right back to the shadows as soon as he is done. Drink another cup of coffee because you’ll be up all night t finish this one.

Action packed

The Hunt for Reacher continues with Otto and her partner traveling a lot and sleeping a little while they’re embroiled in another mystery that starts in Arizona. As usual, the author takes liberties with imagining what happens after a previous Reacher book ended, and while it’s ridiculous at least Otto learns some things about The Boss. As readers, we still do not learn how Reacher knows what’s going on, but at least we get to see Neagley again!

"Jack Rabbit" by Diane Capri is another action packed tale about Kim Otto's search for the truth about her bosses, Cooper, obsession with finding Jack Reacher. Jack Rabbi is a follow up to Child's Night School. Otto & Smithers are sent to Arizona to find Reacher, instead, they uncover illegal arms sales of old hand-held nukes that should have been disposed of in Hamburg years earlier by Reacher's team. These sales are generating billions in a self generating scheme that Wiley, who's long dead, set up in a secret base in Argentina. NSA Deputy Director Marian Sinclair is forced out of her job, goes off the grid to find this money. Sinclair hires Frances Neagley to assist her. Reacher closely follows the search wanting to prevent further sales & shut down Cooper who is part of the scheme. At times, the storyline gets muddled & geographically wrong so only 4 stars, but worth reading.

I’m running out of superlatives! Finding the words to express my enjoyment is getting more difficult with each new installment of the “Hunt for Reacher” series. Each seems to be better than the previous one. But all are excellent…or better! Author Diane Capri is a master at marrying all new plots into the original Reacher adventures. “Jack Rabbit” picks up after the events of Lee Child’s “Night School.” That one had double agents, Neo-Nazis, Neagley, and many $Ms on the line. Jump forward a decade and those $Ms have grown into $Bs. Just to complicate matters, Neagley is back, as are other key players from “Night School.” FBI Special Agent Kim Otto and crew are called in because, of course, Reacher may well be there, too. Fast paced, three-dimensional characters, big bucks, and escalating danger for Kim as she doggedly pursues her hunt for Reacher.
