Mercilyn “Merci” Dubois has spent years saving people from fires but can’t escape the constant fire that appears in her dreams. Burdened by survivor’s guilt after her sister dies in their childhood home from a fire, she abandoned the concept of love. She felt she didn’t deserve it since it was her sister’s story—her sister’s dreams. To make matters worse, her younger brother becomes entangled with the likes of the Saint Riderz MC, a local biker club that is nothing but a distraction to her brother in her eyes.
Emric "Truth" Saint has spent most of his life as the face and head of the Saint Riderz protecting everyone, including his siblings. After an unfortunate event that almost kills his sister, his escape from guilt comes from the one person who despises the club—Merci.
Despite their mutual disdain for each other, Merci and Truth can’t seem to leave each other alone, especially when he now must protect her as well. The more they fight their attraction, the harder they fall for each other… which may be to their own demise.
I didn’t necessarily want to write this review because I knew it would be filled with a lot of complaints. But I also didn’t want this book to be the only one [of the books I’ve read in the past two years] that I haven’t written a review for so here we are.
I finished reading “Truth”, even though I didn’t want to. “Truth” felt all over the place, and I wasn’t connected to any of the characters. As far as tropes, I don’t even really know how to describe Truth and Merci’s relationship. I guess it’ll be “enemies-to-lovers”? The secondary love story (with two other characters) is brother’s best friend.
I didn’t feel the love between Truth and Merci and them finally getting together felt hella rushed. Most of our time spent with Truth and Merci is filled with them bickering or taking jabs at one another. I could call it banter but banter is usually cute. They weren’t that. In all actuality, Truth and Merci were two broken people who shouldn’t’ve gotten together until they healed.
When Truth said he felt the need to protect Merci after the shooting, I was like “ok so how did we get here?” When Merci started flipping tf out in Truth’s kitchen after they’d been intimate and mentioned love, I was even more confused cause when tf did that happen? Truth and Merci had only interacted three times before he forced her to stay with him and each of those interactions were filled with back-and-forth and eye rolls. Now, if Merci would’ve been pissed only because they f*cked twice and each time Truth tried to distance himself after, I would’ve understood. But girl. Love? They were horny for each other for sure but love? Nah. But I also haven’t trauma bonded with someone so maybe that kind of emotional connection hits different 🤷🏾♀️
The conclusion felt messy (as in unorganized) to me. Like Truth and Merci made up off the pages and everything is just perfect six months later. Then we don’t even get the conclusion to the secondary love story. What was the point of even having that storyline? That storyline was the driving force for me finishing this book. I was more interested in them and wanted to know how things unfolded when the relationship was revealed.
Mercilyn “Merci” Dubois has spent years saving people from fires but can’t escape the constant fire that appears in her dreams. Plagued by survivor’s guilt, she's simply been existing in the world and not really living. To make matters worse a victim from a recent fire is heavy on her heart as she's placed on medical leave due to an injury while saving the victim. She isn't aware that victim is the sister to Emric "Truth" Saint, head of the Saint Riderz. Like Merci, he's spent his life protecting her siblings and his own recent guilt of his sister almost being killed.
After a not so subtle threat, Truth decides Merci's safety is his responsibility. After the two give into the connection, Truth struggles to acknowledge his true feelings. It seems everyone around them has secrets as well. As time passes and Truth has a much needed conversation with his father he finally starts to open himself to the possibility of being with Merci.
The overall purpose of this story confused me. I thought this was a story about Truth and Merci finding love with some obstacles. We hardly ever got to explore how Merci dealt with her trauma of losing her sister as it was just short statements of not being able to sleep. We didn't explore their relationship as the book heavily focused on the Saints drama. No real issue there had there not been unnecessary chapters from Breeze and Genny. I am guessing the author will write another to close that loop. Did he finally tell Truth about the relationship? That was glossed over at the ending. Like are they still friends? That storyline was unnecessary as it didn't add anything to the story. I have so many questions that it would take me forever to write this review. Overall, if this had been the first book I read in the biker series, I would've never picked up another one.
Truth's demons truly came from his childhood trauma. Seeing his dad go to prison and his mom being killed weeks later left him with a wall around his heart. Love had no place in his life except for his siblings and his Auntie My. Bumping into Merci and knowing that she saved his baby sister had an effect on him. He knew that Merci was his person. So he kidnaps her, loves her, then discards her. Merci ain't having it though. She is passionate and fiery so Truth has to come correct after he falters.
All in all, he makes peace with his dad, learns the truth about his mom and Alix, and gets his woman back.
I loved the story and overall plot concept. Meri was her little brother's keeper and took her childhood tragedy and used it as motivation for her career. However, she failed to really heal and take care of herself until the one person she wanted to keep her brother away from invaded her life and her heart. Truth was just as broken and had a plethora of childhood trauma to sort through himself. Toward the end things began to feel rushed and incomplete. Based on the author's note at the end, this may have been intentional because she hinted at there being more to tell. I have some questions I need answers to like Genny & Breeze, Merci & Joreen's relationship, Teenie & Biscuit... Nonetheless, I definitely recommend reading this story.
This story had potential, but I felt it missed the mark a little. There were so many things that seemed to happen between Mercilyn and Truth that outside of them making each other mad the few times their paths crossed or their bedroom scenes, that it was hard for me to really vibe with them and see them as a couple. I was more interested in finding out about Breeze and Genny than Truth and Mercilyn with the way the story unfolded. The author did say that Truth and Mercilyn were still talking to her so maybe we will see more from them. I definitely would like more from Breeze and Genny.
I feel really bad for Merci when I found out what happened to her sister when they were young but I feel like that was not her fault because you know old sibling protect the younger one’s. I feel like she should have cherish the time she did have with her but that help her pick her career of her become a firefighter and she was awesome and she help a lot of people get through the fire.truth is going through the same thing about what happen to his sister and they work together to be healed from the guilt of not helping their sibling and also falling in love . This book was a little emotion at times but I know you will be stuck in the book and I feel you should read this book 10/10

This standalone is lit. My girl was going through it about losing her sister in a house fire at a young age. My boy truth was a beast, and he was confused like a mug. I’m glad he wasn’t hot head like his other brother, he needed proof before he acted up. I’m glad her and her brother found them a nice big family and I’m proud of her taking that step to talk to her parents after what happened to her sister. U did good on the first book that I read and I’m looking forward to reading more of them. Sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and while eating popcorn while waiting on the next book to read
I feel like the author jumped ahead a few months and just ended the story. No wrapping up or development…..it just ended. What happened when Truth finds out about Breeze and Gen? There had been a threat to the MC club that was resolved from the inside by Beast but didn’t affect the lives of those on the outside ? No explanation? Truth spent some time pushing Merci away….telling her to run…….When did they heal from this or resolve this? So many unanswered questions for me.
A lot was going on, but I can’t say it was clearly laid out. The story was supposedly about truth and the main girl but yeah, no. It was chaotic, but not in a way that led anywhere solid or meaningful. Characters were just randomly hooking up, and then we were thrown into side plots with Breeze and Gen??? I honestly don’t know why half of it was included it didn’t move the story forward or add anything substantial. This was a mindf*ck, but not in a “Wow, this is so layered and brilliant” way. More like a “What did I just read?” way.
It is tragic how one person's living nightmare can save the life of someone else.
The way my heart hurt for Merch was something serious. The loss of her sister and the guilt she felt saved so many others. I swear I was about in tear each time her and her brother spoke of that night.
Add in Truth and the weight of all things on his shoulder, and you have a co-mingling love story that would touch you in the oddest places.
A great standalone! Family secrets, drama and trauma! Truth and Merch truly belonged together, they both had issues they needed to work through and somehow connected in a more emotional and physical way! Truth was sending mix signals, but Merch wasn't giving up, though hurt! I love how both lives and cared foe.Their younger siblings. I enjoyed the ending, but hope.to see more of them!
I enjoyed this book and love the conversation about trying to live guilt after the death of a loved one one!!!… I was also happy that Truth and his father was able to clear the air and Truth got the facts about his mother!!!… Merci has a road ahead of her to complete her healing and I’m happy she has someone that loves her enough to walk with her on this journey!!!…
Not what I expected but I am happy there was a happy ending for both Truth and Merci. I am very familiar with survivors guilt and how it can haunt you. I am glad that she made peace with her sister’s death. I am also happy to see that their story is not done. I think we also need a Breeze and Genny book as well.
Truth and Merci's coming together was fate since Merci was instrumental in saving someone he loved. Both of them endured trauma in their pasts, and I was happy when they were able to work through it and found a way to be together. Great book with treachery and drama that was enjoyable to read!!
Truth saw Merci and knew that he wanted her. They were both dealing with their own skeletons, but he wanted to be selfish. He knew that he couldn't allow anyone else to have her, so he spoke with the one person that could help him be a better him. They both moved forward and become happy with life and their families. Great read.
This was a cute little novella. Truth exhibited the typical misunderstood bad boy vibe, but Merci wasn’t hearing any of it!! Funny thing is she didnt allow Truth to push her away, never allowing her own trauma to make her deny their connection. And the explicit scenes will have you clutching your pearls!! Five Stars
I honestly don’t even know what happened in this book. It was so over the place with no conclusions to any of the storylines. Like why were they trying to kill the Saint Riders? Did Breeze and Gen tell her brothers they married? So many questions…
The story has great potential but it was not executed at all.
I was always wondering what happened to Merci parents? But I'm glad to know that she is trying to bond with them again. Truth going to see his father and finally knowing the real reason why he did what he did was awesome. I'm also proud that he finally started to let the past go and bond with his father.
This story was sooo good just like the rest of the series! But I’m still stuck on Genny and Breeze… like, did they ever tell Brick and Truth?? What were their reactions? And Beast?? I know he didn’t take that lightly. Yeah… I’m gon’ need that part 2 ASAP. Too many questions left on the table
Whew this was a lot to unravel. I initially had a time remembering who was connected to who and how. I love how secrets creep thru these stories. I love they ended up coupled together. Love conquers all.
Enjoyed these characters, they both had trauma pasts and needed to heal. Truth knew Merci was for him but being guarded and selfish he fumble the ball so happy Kerri didn't give up on him but made him work harder to regain her love.
One look and Truth was hooked ! ! ! Unfortunately Truth and Merci both had to work through the hurt from their past to appreciate the love between them ! ! ! What happened with Breeze and Gen ? ? ?
This is a short novella, but I still needed more. I needed more from the characters, the story line itself, the resolution to they issues that we’re going on. It just would’ve been a nicer wrap up.
I love getting to know Tryth and Merci they both had a lot on there shoulders I love them soo damn much and I hope they continue to talk to so we can get another book
