Fantastic!

Juan Fernández never disappoints. Yes, this is a graduated reader for intermediate Spanish learners, but beyond the organized way Juan weaves in vocabulary and grammatical structures to help solidify your Spanish, this historically-influenced fiction is a page-turner that will also have you laughing lots. Bonus: each chapter title is the name of a song relevant to the corresponding year the chapter takes place. So, you can search the songs on YouTube and deepen your knowledge of Spanish pop culture and language.

This story was good enough to keep my interest as I try to improve my Spanish. Small doses of new vocabulary made it fairly easy to read and enjoy.

A good story full of colloquial Spanish words, a lot of vulgar ones so not really for children. I did enjoy it though. Definitely a C1 level.

This more or less autobiographical book was interesting and gave me a wider view of Andalucia during the Franco and punk eras of the 70s and 80s.
For many years I have followed Juan Fernández's very original and highly recommended YouTube channel, Español con Juan, where he teaches Spanish with un montón de humor, and I became curious about the person behind it.
Gatos callejeros, also a textbook for spanish, level B2, is written in everyday language with lots of modern expressions, explained in a vocabulario at the end of the short chapters. The large text makes the book easy to read and the vocabulario I plan to take with me out on walks.
The author grew up in Granada during the Franco era, during punk and under not so easy circumstances, and the historical Alhambra glimmering over the city really comes into the background.
Even so, my desire to revisit the city has only increased after reading the book. Such a lovely place.
