I’ve always enjoyed reading books by Beverly Lewis and THE CHRISTMAS HOUSE is exactly why. I finished it in two sittings and was emotionally invested from the first page, in all of the characters and their troubles. THE CHRISTMAS HOUSE is a very captivating story and will have you flipping the pages quickly to see what happens. To say that Liz is over whelmed would be a huge understatement. When I finished reading this wonderful story I was happy and sad at the same time. The story was great but I wasn’t ready to leave all of the strong, caring characters. THE CHRISTMAS HOUSE is like a big bar of Godiva chocolate, you want to devour the whole thing all at once but you know you will get more pleasure by savoring each chapter. This is a carefully woven story of two lovely people who really need to learn how to stop and smell the roses.
THE CHRISTMAS HOUSE tugged at my heart and had me praying that Liz would find her happy ever after. I love Beverly Lewis’ way of writing and she always keeps me hooked until the last page. I really love the lessons I learned. What we think we want isn’t always what we really need. Home is where the heart is. All those lovely cliches that make us keep reading sweet, clean romances. THE CHRISTMAS HOUSE is very enlightening and filled with love, respect, trust, and forgiveness. There is so much heart in Beverly’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart very happy. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time. Fans of Amish fiction will love this book! After finishing this heart warming story, I had an overwhelming need to decorate the outside of my home with Christmas lights!

I haven't read a book by the author in several years and I was thrilled to see a new Christmas novella releasing by her this Fall.
The writing was just as I expected, faith filled, fun, and a little romance.
This is Liz Lantz's story. Liz Lantz gives the Englishers buggy tours in her Lancaster Amish community all the while spreading God's word while doing so. So, when her father and brother are unexpectedly called away right during the peak Christmas busy season Liz is worried her business will have to be put on hold. What she doesn't expect is her father to arrange for a handsome Amish man to go with her as she gives the buggy tours as her brother's replacement.
Such a beautiful story full of kindness, gentle reminders and it will leave you feeling happy and full of good Christmas cheer.

I received a free copy of, The Christmas House, by Beverly Lewis, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Liz Lantz has a brisk business, giving tours in her Amish town. Beverly Lewis, has a special way with words, especially Amish ones. This is a great story about family, neighbors, work, Amish people, English people. and much more, a delightful holiday read.

This book is a quick read since it is less than 200 pages. This a story about a young woman Liz, who has started a business with offering Amish buggy rides three nights a week. Her cousin who is a Mennonite runs the website and deals with tickets and reservations. Liz‘s brother and father go away for a few weeks to help build an addition to a house and the father arranges for a young man named Matt to come and help her with driving the buggy. Of course Matt is hand picked to hopefully be her future husband. I enjoyed the interaction between Matt, Liz, and the English people who ride in her buggy.

Many years ago (about 10 to be exact) I picked up my first Beverly Lewis book. It was an Amish book, but I was quickly drawn into the story line. Although I grew up near the Amish in central Indiana, I admittedly know little about their daily life. Lewis’ books are a way to peel back those layers to see how the Amish live, interact, and learn about their culture through her fictional stories.
This book centers around a young single woman, Liz, who runs a carriage tour business. It keeps her busy during the wedding season, and the Christmas season. For her safety, her brother accompanies her on the tours while she gives the English travelers a glimpse into the Amish live and town. When her brother and father are called away, her father sets up a temporary helper for her, Matt. Matt also happens to be single…and you can guess where this is going.
This was a really sweet story about Christmas, the Amish, and a town coming together to welcome strangers. Being a novella, it’s a short and sweet read for the busy season.

I don’t know exactly why Christmas lends itself to sweet little novellas more than other holidays or seasons, but it does, and The Christmas House by Beverly Lewis is a delightful example! Set in the author’s beloved Hickory Hollow community (with endearing appearances by fan favorite Ella Mae Zook), this heartwarming story would make the perfect Hallmark movie too.
I really enjoyed meeting Liz Lantz, an enterprising young woman with a heart to share God’s love with others, and I also enjoyed riding along on her Amish buggy tours. It’s clear that she’s found her God-given purpose, and it’s always so gratifying to see someone walking in that sweet spot – even if they are ‘only’ fictional. Besides that, she’s genuine and kind and gently gregarious, in other words she’s the sort of person you want to befriend. Someone who would agree with me? Matthew Yoder, who steps in at the request of Liz’s dad to help her with her tours while her normal assistant (aka her brother) is out of town on an extended trip. Matthew is a sweetheart in his own right, and watching these two get to know each other, become friends, and start to fall in love truly made me smile.
The Christmas House isn’t all holiday festivities and romance, though. There’s also a compelling plot involving an Englisch couple who have recently moved to the area and go all out for the holidays, in terms of decorations. Something that is understandably off-putting to their Amish neighbors who prefer simple celebrations focused on Jesus’ birth instead of secular Christmas symbols. As Liz learns more about the owners of ‘the Christmas house’ however, she longs to finds a way to bridge the division and I absolutely loved the idea that God places on her heart. Seeing it play out on the page gave me all the warm and cozy Christmas feels that we love in holiday stories, and it served as a timely reminder that even the most devout among us can too easily take our eyes off Jesus and focus on trivial matters instead of what someone really needs.
Bottom Line: The Christmas House by Beverly Lewis is everything a holiday novella should be – heartwarming, romantic, and gently inspiring. With beloved Hickory Hollow as the backdrop, charming new characters to befriend, and a thoughtful message about grace, purpose, and keeping our eyes on Jesus, this story is brimming with cozy Christmas charm. Whether you’re drawn in by the budding romance, the festive setting, or the tender reminder of what truly matters, this novella delivers a beautiful sweet treat for your heart. I think even readers who aren’t especially fans of Amish fiction will enjoy this one, and certainly longtime fans of the author will!

This was my first time reading Amish fiction, and I found it to be such a pleasant experience, especially with its vivid, cheerful Christmas setting and the glimpse into their unique culture and lifestyle.
Both main characters—Matthew and Liz—were wonderful to follow. I enjoyed their easy camaraderie and the thoughtful ways Matt showed care for Liz. I also loved reading about Liz’s close relationships with her dad, mom, and siblings, which gave me a heartwarming look into Amish family life. Liz especially touched me with her kindness toward the Hyatt family, even when other Amish neighbors weren’t so quick to accept them.
The ending was beautiful, with meaningful lessons on love and acceptance—reminding us of the importance of being good to our neighbors. I admired Liz’s determination to run her business, and it was sweet to see how naturally Matt worked alongside her. And of course, the Christmas festivities were a delight to read about—so vivid and sweet—and the glowing, bright Christmas House itself added the perfect touch of holiday magic.

The Christmas House - a refreshing, heartwarming and imaginative read that's absolutely perfect for the holiday season. Liz is an enterprising young woman who operates personalized Amish community tours, and this is a great vehicle for giving us a glimpse into Amish Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions. Matt is a compassionate and giving person, and I loved the easy friendship between them.
An interesting theme is built around an Englisch family who, seeking a more simple life for their family, buys a farm in the middle of Amish country. The problem is their over-the-top Christmas display with its noise and traffic problems. In seeking a way to bridge two different cultures, Liz comes up with the most creative and moving idea involving the whole community during a snow storm.

Light little Amish novella set throughout the holidays. Liz Lantz is a bit older and runs part time Amish buggy tours. Things get interesting when her brother, who helps with the tours, has to go out of town, and her father hires a single man to help her. They get even more interesting when an English family moves into the heart of the Amish community, install electricity and set up an attention grabbing Christmas display.
Although I am not at all new to Amish fiction, I loved, as I always do, hearing about the Amish Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions. I enjoyed that this novella felt very wintry and very Christmasy.

The Christmas House was one of my anticipated books of the year and it was worth the wait! It was so good!
Liz was a great main character. I thought it was cool that she had a business giving buggy rides.
The story felt very Christmasy and I enjoyed every minute of it!

The Christmas House returns us to the Amish community of Hickory Hollow for Liz and Matt’s slowly blooming romance in this lovely Christmas novella. If you haven’t yet discovered Beverly Lewis and her charming, believable Amish romances, then this is a perfect introduction for you, and a treat for those of us who love her stories.
When Liz’s father and brother are called out of town, her father makes sure that Liz has someone with her on her buggy tours of the Amish community. Usually, her brother accompanies her (for her protection), but for now, Matt will be filling that role, especially since Christmas is one of Liz’s busiest seasons. The tours are a wonderful way to allow the Englishers to experience what an Amish community is truly like, not the movie versions, but the real-life, everyday things. But at Christmastime, everything is a bit more cheerful, even more faith-based, as the true meaning of the season is celebrated in a simple, Amish way.
But, there is a new English family who has moved onto a former Amish farm that doesn’t do anything simple, as their home is loaded with every Christmas decoration imaginable… and the Amish community isn’t exactly thrilled with the display. “The Christmas House,” as the Amish community calls it, will stand as a bridge as Liz has an idea of how to show the true meaning of Christmas.
I loved Liz and Matt’s slowly growing attraction, as Liz ponders if God has answered her prayers for a good man to come into her life. I had such a good time with their story. And although it is a novella, it certainly delivered a full-length novel feel. If you love a well-written Amish romance or even a Christmas romance, full of laughter, kindness, faith, and community, or a couple that you cannot help but hope for their happy ending, then you’d love The Christmas House by Beverly Lewis.

Good things take time to grow. – Ella Mae Zook
With her wonderful story telling abilities, Beverly Lewis entertains you with this heartwarming tale of family, faith and loving your neighbors no matter who they are. It’s been many years since I’ve read a book by Lewis and I’m asking myself why. I always find myself feeling like I’ve come home with one of her novels. She first introduced me to this thing called Christian fiction with her Daughter’s of Abram series and I have since then discovered so many other CF authors!
I love the unfolding of the warm and gentle romance between Liz and Matthew. Could this be the man God has for her? Maybe even her dad has done a little matchmaking knowing Liz’s desire for a husband and eventual children. Liz and Matthew were wonderful characters; I was rooting for them the whole time! I really enjoyed watching the close-knit family ties between Liz’s mom, sister and her church community. Their strong Amish faith is something I always love reading about. This story takes place just before Christmas, so experiencing all the preparation & traditions from an Amish point of view was a lot of fun. There is also mention of an English family who moved into their neighborhood and I like Liz’s heart to try to reach them in spite of a lot of opposition from her Amish community. What she does at the end was very heartwarming! The Christmas House has it all for me; faith, family, a touch of romance, tight-knit community and being the hands & feet of Christ to those who are outsiders. And through Beverly Lewis’s pen, she brought it to life for me!

With her wonderful story telling abilities, Beverly Lewis entertains you with this heartwarming tale of family, faith and loving your neighbors no matter who they are. It’s been many years since I’ve read a book by Lewis and I’m asking myself why. I always find myself feeling like I’ve come home with one of her novels. She first introduced me to this thing called Christian fiction with her Daughter’s of Abram series and I have since then discovered so many other CF authors!
I love the unfolding of the warm and gentle romance between Liz and Matthew. Could this be the man God has for her? Maybe even her dad has done a little matchmaking knowing Liz’s desire for a husband and eventual children. Liz and Matthew were wonderful characters; I was rooting for them the whole time! I really enjoyed watching the close-knit family ties between Liz’s mom, sister and her church community. Their strong Amish faith is something I always love reading about. This story takes place just before Christmas, so experiencing all the preparation & traditions from an Amish point of view was a lot of fun. There is also mention of an English family who moved into their neighborhood and I like Liz’s heart to try to reach them in spite of a lot of opposition from her Amish community. What she does at the end was very heartwarming! The Christmas House has it all for me; faith, family, a touch of romance, tight-knit community and being the hands & feet of Christ to those who are outsiders. And through Beverly Lewis’s pen, she brought it to life for me!

I loved this Christmas story set in Hickory Hollow in Lancaster County where many of the books by Beverly Lewis are set. It is such a peaceful place. An Englisher has bought an Amish farm and proceeded to install electricity. Suddenly, the Amish found themselves dealing with a huge Christmas display right in the middle of Amish country with all of the decorations, music, traffic, and just simply major disruption to their Plain way of life. Liz has added a Christmas House Tour to her popular Amish Buggy Tour offerings. It has quickly become a highlight of the season for the tourists to Lancaster County. Liz loves what she does and wants to spread God’s love to others. She is so comfortable working with her brother on the tours, but all of that changes when her father and brother leave town for a month to build an addition on the home of a relative. I enjoyed the interaction between Liz and the young man her father chose to assist her while her brother was away. One of my favorite characters was the Wise Woman, Ella Mae Zook. Every community needs an Ella Mae. She was always ready to listen, pray, and offer sound advice as appropriate. Those who visited her tended to listen to her advice. That was interesting since too many people ask advice, but few want to follow. This is a great story to get one into the Christmas mood.

Liz Lantz has a buggy tour business taking Englisher tourists in Lancaster county on buggy rides along with her brother Adam. During these rides Liz spreads God’s words and love with the tourists. When her father and brother are called away to build, her father finds a temporary replacement to help Liz with her buggy rides. Matthew Yoder is a handsome, caring, kind and helpful Amish man that Liz becomes fond of. An Englisher family moves into the Amish community and lavishly decorated their house, attracting unwanted traffic and attention. Liz would like to bridge the gap to help the new neighbors feel welcome.
During a snowstorm Liz and Matt get stuck and walk to her house. The car they were in got stuck and the power in the neighborhood was out. Liz comes up with an idea to help the Englisher neighbors who have kids. She gathers the Amish community to bring supplies including food and sing carols to have them feel welcome and cared for. In the end, Matt wants to spend more time with Liz, even after her father and brother came home.
This was a short Christmas novella of 160 pages. It was a heartwarming story with inspiring messages of faith, family, kindness, helping others, community, acceptance, and loving your neighbor. It had a clean romance storyline that taught about taking another chance in love. The story showed the true meaning of Christmas.

It’s been a while since I last set foot in Hickory Hollow—okay, I admit, I’m a few books behind; they’re collecting dust on a shelf somewhere—but as soon as I opened this one, the familiarity washed over me like a warm cup of cocoa. Beverly Lewis’s writing possesses a quaint charm, like an old photograph you find tucked in a book. The plot, while predictable, unfolds in a way that's comforting, like a well-worn sweater. The sweet, innocent protagonist is a staple of these Amish tales, and Liz hits that mark flawlessly. As for Matthew, he's a touch too sugary for my taste—but, let’s face it, in Christian fiction, sweetness is practically the main ingredient.
Overall, The Christmas House is a delightful little confection full of charm, faith, and just the right sprinkle of romance. After all, who doesn’t crave a little love story, especially during the holiday season? I don't have a lot of experience with books on the Amish, so don't have a solid foundation to base this book upon. But from what I gather from reading it and a few others recently, this does a great job of bringing the culture and people to life. This short, sweet little novella was a quick and easy read. I loved the romance that developed between Liz and Matthew and thought it was just the right amount of romance - not too much, not too little. I was able to picture the setting for the story despite having never visited Amish country before, and thought author Beverly Lewis did a great job describing things. Having read a few other books by Lewis, I felt she kept to her same writing style, albeit a shorter story being a novella. Because of its length, I was able to read through the whole book in a few hours. I was almost disappointed when it concluded because I would have enjoyed a longer read, but thought it wrapped things up nicely and in a great manner. Overall, I thought it was a well written book and perfect for gift giving to the bookophiles in your life. A great read with an inspirational and touching storyline.

I read this in just a few hours and it was really touching and brought some tears to my eyes at the end.
Liz has her own Amish buggy tour business. Her brother Adam helps her out with driving while she gives the tour, explaining Amish life and even ending the tour with cookies and cocoa in the wintertime. With Christmas coming, her brother has to help their dad with some work. A friend of their dad's has a son who is going to fill in for Adam. His name is Matt. Liz and Matt become a team and end up working really well together. Both of them are "older" single Amish people, as they had relationships in the past that ended in different ways.
There is a house in between all the Amish ones (that used to be an Amish farmhouse). Now that Christmas is around, the family living there have a huge Christmas light display that is starting to bother the Amish neighbors, because so many cars come around to see it, which can spook the horses when on the roads. Liz starts to get to know the people who live there and has ideas of how she can try to help the Amish to become more caring for their neighbors while also helping the neighbors feel more welcomed.

The Christmas House by Beverly Lewis is a sweet Amish holiday romance that will make you forget it’s the dead of summer and not the middle of winter.
Liz Lantz has a buggy tour business in Hickory Hollow, and when her brother (who accompanies her) goes out of town with her father, another young Amish man, named Matthew Yoder, steps in to help. As the two develop an attraction for each other, the story progresses with an underlying theme of sharing the gospel with your neighbours and befriending them, even when you might have nothing in common.
While I found the book a tad dull, I was still impressed by how Liz was determined to reach out to the owners of the Christmas House. Her Amish friends and neighbours didn’t like the garish displays, but Liz is determined for them all to get to know each other, making for a Hallmark moment at the end of the book.
If you like Christmas novellas and Amish fiction, you will enjoy The Christmas House by Beverly Lewis.

Beverly Lewis takes us back to Hickory Hollow. A small community where everyone knows everyone. This short story of fun and romance is sure to get everyone in the mood for Christmas!
Liz is living at home waiting for the right relationship. She so much wants a husband and family but is waiting for the right man. She convinced her dad to let her give tours to the tourists as a business.
As her dad and brother go out of town her dad hires a man to help on the tours in place of her brother. Slowly, Matt the helper of the tours and her become friends. Could they become more?
I truly loved the characters in this story. They brought it to life. It is a short story but also packed with common and relationships. You will be sure to love this book!

Beverly Lewis is one of my absolute favorite authors, so I was so excited when I discovered she was releasing a Christmas novella this year! The Christmas House has everything I adore about Beverly’s storytelling and features a cast of delightful characters, including the beloved Ella Mea. Set in charming Hickory Hollow, the story envelops you in a peaceful, comforting atmosphere that feels like a cozy blanket on a chilly winter evening.
