This is a great read for bodyworkers and healthcare practicioners, but I think anyone who is interested in their body would enjoy reading this. Although J.P. Barral has written many complicated textbooks, his style of writing here is very easygoing and fun to read.
Great reference linking the body's organs to specific types of emotions. Dry and vague at times, but worth reading, and for me, re-reading occasionally. The emotions that we stuff into our bodies can do some very interesting things at times...
An interesting read about how our organs work. Jean-Pierre Barral is an osteopath practicing in Grenoble, France. Visceral therapy sounds like western manual therapy fused with some taoist thoughts on internal energies. According to him, most musculoskeletal problems have a visceral component. The book tries explaining how Visceral Manipulation is missing link in manual techniques. Also, contains nutrition suggestions in accordance with the functions of organs and the book might even inspire me to decrease my coffee intake.
Practical, short, concise and overall a great introduction into body, mind, emotion their intricacies, connections and the solutions that visceral manipulation can provide to illnesses.
Great book, worth the read. Directed to laymen and specifically potential Visceral Manipulation patients, this book provides a unique perspective on the connection between specific organs and emotional states and thought-patterns. Light-hearted and employing a colloquial tone, this book also provides a very good counterpoint to the author's other titles on Visceral Manipulation. In my practice, I use VM almost on every patient, because of its high efficiency and applicability, but explaining the whys or hows of it to patients is difficult. I wish I could have all my patients read this book, so they could begin to reflect a little bit on their self-care and its relationship to my sessions with them. A gold-mine of information on self-care and awareness of one health and wellbeing. Loved it. Will have to read it again!
Somewhat vague descriptions of people who might fit into certain categories. Reminiscent of a horoscope choose which suits you best!! Yet on the other hand I can understand why he has phrased things the way he has in applying body areas and behaviour within the context of health... The organs are overlooked and misunderstood as we delve further into being brain based and no longer organ based beings..
recommended by my chiropractor Dr. David Young. very helpful in determining what i can do to alleviate pain in my body through proper exercise, nutrition, mind conversations etc.
