Broody single dad. Plus-size nanny. One summer under the same roof… what could go wrong?
I was supposed to spend the summer nannying, not falling for a grumpy cowboy with a chip on his shoulder. Brody Callahan doesn’t want me here—he made that clear. But his daughter loves me, and if I’m honest... I might already love her too. I I didn’t count on wanting her dad as much as I do.
I hired a live-in nanny for the summer to make my life easier. The last thing I need is a curvy, cheerful tornado named Winnie messing up my routine—or my heart. It's her job to care for my daughter, not to invade my thoughts or make me dream of things I swore I’d never want. But she’s sass and stubbornness wrapped in yoga pants and sunshine. Before I know it, she’s tangled so deeply in my life, I don't know how I'll ever let her go.
*** These four single dads thought they were done with love. But love… isn’t done with them.
They’ve been burned—by divorce, betrayal, heartbreak—and now their lives revolve around playdates, carpools, and bedtime stories. Love? Not happening. Not again.
When unexpected women storm into their carefully controlled worlds—bringing sass, chaos, and the kind of heat they thought they’d locked away for good—these devoted fathers face a new kind of falling for the one person they shouldn’t.

A cute non cringey novella about a nanny and an ex-football player.
The good: it's wonderfully paced for a novella and has some good humor. The bad: a major gap in the plot (Who was the mother of the kid? and where is she? was she a gold digger that put a whole through his condom to have his money and fame? did she die? did she abandon the kid or sign off her parental rights? did he kill her?) We will never know, she was never mentioned.
He hired a manny. What he got was a woman who refuses to walk away.
Brody (h40) has one rule for his ranch and his daughter’s heart: no more female nannies. But when Winnie (H27) shows up instead of the male nanny he expected, everything begins to unravel. She’s loud, stubborn, and full of life. He’s not prepared for the chaos, or the connection. And worst of all, Clementine loves her.
Winnie needs this job. Living out of her car isn’t an option, and Clementine is the kind of kid who’s impossible not to fall for. Too bad her boss is grumpy, overbearing, and determined to push her away. But when sparks start flying, it’s not just inconvenient. It’s risky. One misstep could cost her everything.
As summer stretches on, so does the bond they build. Clementine thrives. Brody begins to let go of old defenses. And Winnie starts to imagine a different kind of future, one built on trust, care, and the possibility of more. But getting close means facing the fears they’ve both avoided.
Winnie grows from chaotic and determined to steady and deeply nurturing. Brody, once guarded and rigid, opens up in ways he didn’t think were possible. Clementine, smart and full of spirit, finally finds the stability she’s been craving. Together, they learn to let go, hold on, and start over.
Their relationship shifts from resistance to something undeniable. The tension breaks, respect grows, and love slowly takes root. Clementine is the glue, the light, and the reason neither of them wants to walk away. What starts as survival becomes something worth building a life around.
Hot and steamy, grumpy sunshine, single dad, curvy girl, small town romance, exploring love, family, second chances, identity, parenthood, trust, belonging, and vulnerability. It's about how love shows up when you least expect it.
Big Trouble (Single Dads of Big Wood) By Kat Baxter
In Big Trouble, Kat Baxter delivers a swoony, steamy, and emotionally satisfying grumpy single dad + curvy nanny romance.
Winnie is a bright, plus-size ball of sunshine hired to nanny for the summer. But she doesn’t expect her biggest challenge to be Brody Callahan—a broody cowboy who sees her as a disruption to his carefully guarded world.
Brody just wanted a manny to help with his daughter. What he got was a woman who bakes cookies, builds pillow forts, and makes him feel too much for the first time in years. Winnie isn’t just good with his daughter—she’s good for him, too. But Brody’s stubborn heart make him resist what’s right in front of him.
The tension sizzles as this forced-proximity romance plays out over a summer of emotional walls coming down, bedtime routines turning into stolen glances, and a child at the center who may be the secret to healing them both.

Cute story about a jaded single dad (I do wish we got the story there) and a curvy catastrophe. I was caught from the beginning seeing the disaster the FMC has been through. I love the banter, sass and that she truly cares about the child. She's not just there to get the dad. Eventhough she finds him attractive she isn't constantly throwing herself at him, she's doing her job and things develop naturally between them. Very cute with a little spice and of course and HEA.

What a punch this story packed! All of the longing, funny, alpha yumminess that KB puts in her stories is present here. The plus size, confident heroine and the ex football player, alpha single dad... the chemistry was there from the word 'penis'!! (You will have to read to find out what this refers to!!! LOL) I highly recommend this read!
fave quote: 'I stab one of the pancakes with my fork and bring it to my plate. It has a smiley face cooked into it and that’s just too damn adorable for words. My heart is in so much trouble. This man, this unbelievably sexy man, is the kind of dad every little girl needs. I’m pretty sure I ovulate in that moment.'
OMG!!! WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

Brody Callahan needed a manny for his daughter Clementine. Who is an adorable seven-year-old, with springy red curls, a smart mouth, and more stamina than… Well, the Energizer Bunny on speed. She’s extremely smart for her age almost too smart, and a mischief-maker, and Winnie is so there for it. So there they were, her, Clementine, and Banana-Noodle, sitting on a mound of pillows by the window in the playroom, reading one of her favorite books, Mercy Watson Fights Crime–because, of course, Clementine has excellent taste in books–when he comes in.
He is Brody Callahan, Clementine’s father, and her new boss. He takes one stony-eyed look at her before growling that he needs to see her in his office. The moment her gaze meets his, she knows what’s coming. He’s going to fire her. Winnie has been through this enough that she can recognize the signs. Despite her employment record, she hasn’t had time to screw anything up. She has been at work for less than two hours. When he still doesn’t say anything, she goes on the offensive. “I have excellent qualifications,” she blurts.
“I was expecting a man,” the huge man says, before she can list them. “Oookay,” drawing out the word, putting together the pieces of this rapidly unfolding puzzle. “I might have picked up on that subtle undercurrent of testosterone-fueled disappointment.” “I thought—” “That I had a pen--?” “I’d say I get that a lot, but honestly, this has never happened before.” “What kind of woman is named Winslow?” the man growls. “You’d have to ask my parents. I’m told it’s because they’d been assured I was a boy and had already settled on the name,”
She explains. “I hired a male nanny.” “You thought you hired a male nanny. As you can tell, I am very much a woman.” “You cannot actually fire me for not being a man. That’s sexism, which I’m sure you realize is illegal,” she says. “This is not a corporation we’re talking about. This is my home and my daughter.” “Yes. You have a lovely home. Your adorable and, might I add, very smart daughter gave me a tour earlier.” He jabs a finger at his own chest. “I get to decide who lives here and takes care of her.”
“Of course you do. You just cannot fire me based on the fact that I have a vagina rather than a penis. I already signed a contract. Are there some sort of tasks that require the Y-chromosome?” “This is not going to work,” he says with a defiant shake of his head. “I want you gone by the time I get back.” “I can not lose this job,” she mutters, burying her head in her hands, only to sit bolt upright when she sees a flash of movement out of the corner of her eye. “Clementine?” she asked. “Is that you?” “He can’t fire you!” she screeches.
“He always fires the nannies, and it’s not fair. You didn’t buy any animals or accidentally fall asleep in his bed or steal his pickles or anything!” “Don’t worry, Clem. I’m not going anywhere.” Welcome to their meet-cute. This is a simple cute Beauty and the Beast. A close-proximity romance. With an adorable young girl who brings them together.
Brody has had it up to here with flirty nannies and awkward encounters. He just wants someone trustworthy to care for his daughter without turning it into a romcom disaster. His solution? Hire a manny. Enter Winslow Ashcroft... or so he thinks. Imagine his shock when a curvy, confident woman shows up on his doorstep instead. Their first meeting had me howling with laughter as Brody desperately tried to backpedal out of their contract. But Winslow—call me Winnie—wasn’t about to be dismissed without a fight. “Are there some sort of tasks that require the Y-chromosome?” she deadpans, and just like that, you know this woman means business. She’s already won over Brody’s daughter, Clementine (aka Clem), and honestly? Clem steals the show. Her sass, her honesty, her innocent observations are absolute gold. Just wait until she explains why the last nanny was fired… something about stolen pickles. Wait till you hear Brody explain that one! Winnie has Brody pegged from the start, dubbing him "Broody Brody," and oh, does it fit. But she doesn't flinch at his gruff exterior. If anything, she sees right through it—to the loyal, loving man underneath who's just terrified of falling for someone again. Spoiler: he falls hard. And when he finally stops resisting the pull between them, it’s pure magic—like all the missing pieces of their little family finally snap into place. Witty, warm, and brimming with heart, this story is a delightful tumble into unexpected love. Winnie is the breath of fresh air Brody never knew he needed—and we get to enjoy every fabulous, funny, and swoony moment along the way. Broody single dad. Plus-size nanny. One summer under the same roof… what could go wrong?

This contemporary plus size single dad/nanny small town sports romantic comedy romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building in Big Wood, and characters that are alpha, grumpy male, exuding power, football player, captivating, plus size, sassy, stubborn female wrapped in yoga pants and sunshine, and realistic. Their journey is enthralling with big trouble: single dads of Big Wood, meddling family members, drama, humor, heartfelt emotions, forced proximity, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with big trouble, single dads of Big Wood and an explicit romance that is sure to transport readers into a world that is wildly lustful and unforgettable.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story about Winnie, the nanny, and Brody, the rancher and former professional football player. Brody hired Winslow Ashcroft, thinking he had found a male live-in nanny or manny for his daughter Clementine. He decided this after going through numerous nannies in a short length of time. In his mind a male would not be trying to become his “Mrs” and, since this was only for the summer, 7 year old Clementines wouldn’t get attached by the time school started. When Brody tries to fire Winnie, the real fun begins!
Winnie is sunshine and sass, knows the necessary particulars of her contract and thinks on her feet when faced with unusual or quirky situations. (Brody calls her a cheerful tornado) Clementine is a precocious and highly intelligent 7 year old who connects with Winnie immediately. Brody is a cinnamon role, grumpy and scowling and set in his routines and orderly life on the ranch (but with a soft, caring side that he tries hard to hide). Mix the three of them together and life happens …. Best of all, Winnie responds with humor and sass, while Clementines adds her insights and a child’s directness that is so spot on. The humor that is integrated throughout the story keeps it refreshing and easy to read, as well as making the characters feel real and relevant. Honestly? I have yet to find a Kat Baxter book that I didn’t like. If you’ve not read a book by her yet, give this one a try - you just might like it!
I’ve been waiting for this story since I met Winnie in Liam & Wren’s book. Winnie is just starting a new nanny position when she finds out that she was chosen because of her name, Winslow, which technically is a man’s name, which is why she goes by Winnie. lol. So she is about to start working for Brody Callahan whose daughter, Clementine is adorable and precocious. That little girl is a riot. Banana-Noodle is the dog & SnickerDoodle is the cat. I giggled and laughed a lot during the books and found myself rolling my eyes a LOT. Brody is part cowboy & mountain man and GRUMP. lol. Since Brody is so hot, he has had trouble from other nannies doing things they shouldn’t, read the book to find out the list, lol. There is a particularly hilarious scene that had me running for the bathroom and laughing so hard I cried, twice. Bryant, Bear & Briggs are Brody’s brothers. (I sooo want their books now!). One of the reasons Brody is so grumpy is because he is attracted to Winnie. I love how there are thinking rants from both Brody & Winnie throughout the book, which are hilarious, as well as the ‘rules’ from the nanny company and the take-aways from both characters. Once Winnie & Brody finally admit that they have feelings and things progress things get steamy, romantic and fun fast. I can’t wait to read more.

This is part of a multi-author collaboration about four single dads that have been burned by women and love. They think they are done with love and raise their children. That is until the right women "storms" into their lives wrecking them and their control. I love all four of these stories! Each one features one of the single dads and the lady that completes them. "Big Temptation" by Eve London starts off the stories followed by Big Risks" by Kaci Rose, this one and then "Big Obsession" by Hope Ford. Each of the "Single Dads of Big Wood" stories can be read as stand alone stories but they are more fun read in order, as each man falls. This is a fairly short and quick read about Brody and Winnie. Brody is a single dad to a very precious little girl named Clementine. He is grumpy and tired of nannies trying to audition to be his next wife, instead of focusing on his daughter. When he hires Winslow as a nanny, he is expecting a manny not a a curvy very attractive nanny. Winnie, aka Winslow, has signed a contract to be Clementine's nanny, who she already adores, when Brody tries to fire her. This is such a good story with some very entertaining bits, witty banter, cuteness, sweet and stormy bits. I especially love the Diary parts and the rules.
She needs this job to work out, but the dad staring at her is making things difficult. He thought he was hiring a man, she is anything but, and he wants to send her on her way, but his daughter has already bonded and she is not giving up without a fight. This is a short story format so you don't expect to get a lot of detailed character development or complicated plot lines. You don't get a lot of back story on either character, but some little tidbits to establish. He is a single dad, ex football player that now lives on the family ranch with his daughter. She is sassy and passionate and not about to be intimidated by him. They have some mutual pining before they get together. I enjoyed the story and that it is adjacent to some other stories I read by the author. We were first introduced to the FMC in her sister's book. While it is not necessary to read the other story, it is fun to get a little more info to world build. My only issue with the story is that the end felt rushed. When they finally got together they went straight to the "L" word right away and it felt a little campy. Otherwise I enjoyed this one.

What an absolutely cute but steamy ebook you definitely shouldn't miss. Winslow aka Winnie has lost alot of jobs some through special circumstances. Winnie gets a nanny job. Right away she's crazy about her charge but when she meets the handsome Brody she knows she's in trouble as she's so attracted to him at first glance even his grumpiness. Brody thought he was getting a male nanny and what he got was Winnie a beautiful young woman. He feels an instant deep connection with her. Their chemistry is so steamy and the passion is electric. Let's not forget the witty banter which gives this ebook an added zing. Will Winnie and Brody come to realize that they are so perfect for each other or will they keep their distance because of the little girl? Can Winnie keep her forbidden attraction a secret from Brody and can she keep her job when feelings are revealed? Does Brody defeat his mistrust of Winnie and does he decide that Winnie was just made for him and to be in his life forever? You'll definitely want to get this blazing hot witty 5⭐️ winner. You will love it.

Brody has had trouble keeping a nanny for his daughter, Clementine. Clementine is not the problem, it’s Brody. These nannies want to spend all their time with Brody. He’s handsome, big, muscular, retired NFL player - a great catch. Well, Brody thinks he has found a solution - he hired an manny! When the manny shows up he is flabbergasted to find a woman with the name of Winston - Winnie for short. How did this happen? It is a delightful mess but Winnie is staying. Clementine is already attached to her and Brody will just try to stay out of her way. I really enjoyed how the author used Dear Diary to give insight on Clementine’s thoughts; also using The Rules for Nanny’s. I thought this was an original and enjoyable way to present this information. “People always tell me how smart I am, but are the grown-ups really all that stupid?” Clementine Winnie is going to be a challenge for Brody. She is sassy, curvy, confident and a sweet loving woman. Good luck Brody. So much fun to read. It’s a funny, entertaining, heartwarming, tender, family love story.

Big Trouble by Kat Baxter is a sweet and heartwarming romance that I really enjoyed. The story centers around Brody, a broody single dad, and Winnie, a plus-size nanny hired to help him out for the summer. Their dynamic is a perfect mix of grumpy and sunshine, which made their interactions both entertaining and touching.
I loved how the book balanced humor, steam, and genuine emotional moments. The characters felt real and relatable, and I appreciated the way the story explored the challenges and joys of forming a makeshift family under one roof. The small-town setting added a cozy vibe that enhanced the overall feel of the story.
The pacing was good, though the book was on the shorter side, so I sometimes wished for a bit more depth in certain scenes or character backstories. Still, the chemistry between Brody and Winnie was undeniable, and their journey toward trust and love felt authentic.
Overall, Big Trouble is a satisfying, feel-good read with plenty of heart and heat. It’s a great pick if you enjoy contemporary romances featuring single dads and found family themes. I’m looking forward to reading more from Kat Baxter’s Single Dads of Big Wood series!
Accepting the Inevitable - Brody felt his anxiety level skyrocket when he met Winnie, as there seems to be a case of mistaken identity and more importantly he was intensely attracted to her. However, when Brody tried everything possible to fire Winnie, he discovered it was impossible, so he had no other option other than to allow her to stay. Unfortunately, Brody tried very hard to keep his attraction for Winnie in check, but it proved quite difficult and led to some unexpected steamy pleasure-filled moments.
Nevertheless, spending time together brought them closer and led to them to them finally acknowledging their feelings for each other and embark on a relationship that led to a happily ever after. This sweet, fun-filled romance story, with a bit of drama and some witty banter, mixed with a touch of heat was a really awesome read. I just couldn't stop reading once I started and stayed up past my bedtime to finish reading the book. I will be very happy to recommend this book.

Brody is the definition of grump and determination to do everything he can himself well outside of a nanny for his little girl. He wanted to hire a manny, someone named Winslow. He is beyond shocked when its the beautiful bright Winnie.
I love that Winnie doesn't back down from him. Its hilarious when she calls him out over his issue with her not having a Y chromosome. She nicknames his Grouchy Pants Broody Brody. She is fire to his steel, and boy is it one heck of a story,.
They dont' realize they are both fighting an attraction they ddin't intend on, but they know there are risks. Winnie needs the job to not live in her car, and give Clementine the stable steady life she deserves.
Watching Brody give in his ecstasy. He can't hide it from his brothers, and maybe sorta edges him into action. It gives a wonderful new meaning to stealing pickles #picklestealer.
Its not the typical nanny romance, but it still gives you that hit of dopamine you want in this story. Its got such good sarcasm, grit, grump, and a nice HEA.
When your manny Winslow turns out to be a fierce and firey nannie named Winslow who goes by Winnie and lacks the key anatomical feature that puts, well, the "man" in manny, this is a disaster for Brody. Whether he likes it or not he can't fire his nanny for assuming "Winslow" is a male. It also becomes harder to stay away when his nanny goes toe to toe with him, putting his daughter first and fighting for her. Can insta-lust and unwanted feels turn into love?
Winnie finds that she not only loves Clementine but is falling for her dad, Brooding Brody. Breaking her contract is not a chance she is willing to take, but her heart wants what it wants. If her love is unrequited more than her dream job is at stake.
A read with all the feels, and great start to big woods, something feels incomplete with this one.

Winnie desperately needs the summer nanny job, but boss and single dad Broody Brody fires her the minute he meets her. He was expecting a manny because he had so many problems with previous nannies trying to come on to him. Slowly she unwittingly breaks down his resolve to avoid her, but in the best interests of the darling Clementine that is under WInnie's care, she decides to leave the family.
This was the third in a four part series of the town of Big Wood about 4 single fathers falling for sassy ladies who turn their world upside down and give them hope in love again. I've read the previous 2 books and loved this one immensely! Kat writes amazing stories that are fun, funny, entertaining and also very touching.

Kats installment in the Single Dads of Big Wood doesn't disappoint.
Expecting a male Nanny called Winslow, imagine Brodys surprise when Winslow turns out to be a beautiful, curvy, over qualified nanny who prefers to be called Winnie. Brodys is hesitant at first, based on his previous experiences with nanny's, he doesn't want another female nanny. But Winnie stands her ground and goes to bat hard for her job and for Clementine (Brodys daughter).
We get snippets of Wren through text messages (Winnie's sister from Love em or Liam), and of course the three other single dads from the series Walker, Jace and Tucker.
Nice short read with humour, steam and instalove all rolled into one. Brilliant work Kat 5 stars.
If you enjoy off limits romance, single dad x nanny romance, close proximity, instalove, characters pov writing, steamy scenes and HEAs then this is for you.
Brody has advertised for a nanny, or more specifically a manny; he's had enough of women who seem more interested in him than his daughter, Clementine. When Winslow turns up, he's not what Brody expected, he's a she - Winnie. We've met Winnie in Wren's story - Love 'em or Liam - so already know that the initial meeting doesn't go as planned. However, he's stuck with her, he has some ridiculous rules, which she will abide by and already adores Clementine and it seems she, in turn, adores Winnie. Trouble is, for the first time, he finds himself attracted to this spitfire and regrets some of his rules, especially when his friends take more interest in her than they should.
Another good read and a nice crossover link into the Saddle Creek world.

4.5⭐️ I absolutely adore Winnie and I’m so glad we got her book after meeting her sisters book, Love ‘Em or Liam. She is hilarious with no filter in the best possible way and had a heart of gold. This was a great grumpy/sunshine trope book with Mr. Broody Brody as the grump. He may be grumpy, but he loved his daughter and was a great dad. I love how these books include the children in such a big way, and how this one how diary entries from Clementines point of view. I do wish it was a bit longer though and explained about Clem’s mom and what happened there. It was never talked about other than it was a scandal, but never explained what that scandal was. No cheating or OM/OW drama, virgin FMC, single dad, 13 year age gap, dual POV, HEA and a sort of epilogue in the future through Clem’s diary entry. Not usually into single dad books, but I have been loving this series!
This book had me laughing! Winnie is such a free spirit who says things without thinking. She is currently living on a ranch as a nanny for a young girl, Clementine. Winnie sees Clementine and her need for challenges. Brody, Clementine’s dad, is a retired football player who has had trouble with the other nannies he has hired in the past. This time he thought he had hired a “manny” based on the name Winslow. Little did he know that Winnie was a curvy girl who would change his mind and his heart. If you like instalove, curvy girl, funny conversations, and an alpha male who loves his daughter, this book is for you! I loved Clementine’ diary entries.

Winnie & Brody are one of my favorite couples from Kat, and don't even get me started on Clementine. That girl is as sweet as she is mischievous.
Brody is through with women trying to throw themselves at him and not actually care for his daughter. So he hires who he thinks he is a manny for his daughter Clementine, what he got is a feisty curvy Winslow "Winnie" Ashcroft who refuses to be fired. The instant chemistry and the banter back and forth between them was cat nip. I was dying for more interactions between the two of them.
I enjoyed every single part of this story, from Clementine's diary entries to the swimming pool scene with the brothers. Brody was the most reluctant person to fall in love ever, but when he finally gave in, it was soooo worth it!!
Kat Baxter, high 5, 20 stars. Loved this book. Perfect mixture of steam, sweet and laughter! Winnie has been hired as a nanny for the summer. Brody is a single dad. He thought he hired a Manny to take care of his adorable daughter Clementine. Tropes: Sassy smart heroine, single dad, nanny, curvy women, steamy, rom-com, HEA romance, small town, meddling family, sports, football, retired professional athlete. Book quote: "He can't fire you! He always fires the nannies, and it's not fair. You didn't buy animals or accidentally fall asleep in his bed or steal his pickles or anything. ".
A special thank you to Kat Baxter and Booksprout for providing me with an eARC book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rules are Made to be Broken This single dad falls hard for the nanny story is a fun, short read. Winnie is not the expected manny that Brody had hired but a curvy bombshell with a backbone of steel (except when it comes to spiders) and a mouth never short of a come-back. Winnie and Brody’s love of Brody’s daughter Clementine is the glue that binds them and ultimately makes them inseparable. Throughout the story we are privy to the rules of nannying that both Winnie and Brody interpret as they see fit. Eventually it doesn’t really matter as we all know rules are made to be broken. 4.25 stars. This short story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, grumpy cowboy employer (Brody)/cheerful nanny (Winnie), contemporary romantic comedy. I enjoyed Winnie’s determination to persevere and succeed in her role. I enjoyed her genuine engagement with Brody’s daughter, Clementine. I laughed at Brody’s grumpy awareness of his attraction. I enjoyed seeing him relax into it. I enjoyed Clementine’s joy at finding Winnie and her determination to keep her. I enjoyed the intimate moments. I enjoyed meeting Brody’s brothers and Winnie’s text message interactions with her sisters.
