An anecdotal group biography of Britain's royal family includes tidbits from the lives of the Queen and her court, including her sister Margaret, her husband Philip, the heir to the throne, and his future royal clan.
Have read many books on the Royals & was pleasantly surprised about all the new facts I learned. Most of them were about her early life and the beginning of her reign. All in all... a very good read.
I've read so many books on this subject, I was surprised by how much material that is new to me is in this book. While there is some personal material, emphasis is on the relationship between the queen and the various prime ministers who have served during her reign.
I don't follow the royal family except in a general way and most of what I know is from the 1980's on, since the marriage of Charles and Diana, so this book was interesting to me, filling in some of the history of the 1940's through 1990. This is a biography of Elizabeth II, Queen of England. It starts with her childhood and background information on her parents, grandparents and the royal families in general. It continues through WWII, her marriage, her father's death and her ascension to the throne. It chronicles her daily life as Queen; professionally, culturally and personally. It is written in an anecdotal way but the author does a reasonable job of not descending into gossip.
