The Happy Ever After Playlist meets The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo in this dual POV, dual timeline, contemporary romance where a chance encounter between aspiring writer, Tyler Norris, and the drummer for a multi-platinum rock band, Eric Ambrose, results in Ambrose hiring Norris to pen his biography.
There is nothing Tyler regrets more than the night she spent with Eric Ambrose. Not because (despite everything she’d told herself that night) she’d caved and slept with the man they call “The King”. The man who is arguably the best rock drummer of all time. But because, despite her best efforts, she can’t stop thinking about him. And when he tracks her down three months later and offers her a job writing his memoir, she’s caught between standing her ground and keeping as much distance between them as possible, or agreeing to spend the next six months on tour with him. Following his every move and getting to know the notoriously private man on a level that not many people do. As she finds herself agreeing to his offer, she can only hope that this won’t turn into another decision involving Eric Ambrose that she regrets.
Tyler Norris is the one that got away—literally. The only woman Eric has ever taken back to his hotel room to vanish into thin air by the time he woke up the next morning. He’s spent months tracking her down, desperate to see her again for reasons he doesn’t fully understand. And when he finally finds her and offers her the opportunity to join him on tour and write his memoir, the woman he met the night they spent together is nowhere to be found. This one is guarded, shy, and hesitant. Determined to spend more time with the woman who flipped his world upside down, he agrees to whatever terms she presents—including the one he knows is going to take every ounce of self-control he has left—absolutely no sex.
A friendship forms and tension grows so tight it’s bound to snap as Tyler and Eric refuse to face the music—their chance encounter was just the beginning.
I've been obsessed with all things love and "happily ever after" since 4-year-old me watched The Little Mermaid for the first time. There’s something magical about love—the way it transforms, heals, and defies all odds. That magic is what I strive to capture in every story I write.
As a contemporary romance author, I write stories filled with heart, heat, and characters who feel real. Whether it's slow-burn longing, undeniable chemistry, or love that refuses to back down, my goal is to make readers swoon, sigh, and believe in love all over again.
When I'm not writing, you can find me in my stained glass studio listening to my favorite hard rock bands, or yelling at the TV while cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils, or the McLaren F1 team.
I cannot believe this is a debut novel. It had me feeling all the things. The audiobook is incredible. BRILLIANT performance by James Cassidy. The angst. The longing. The pain.
Reread via ALC of the audiobook, narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and James Cassidy! These two absolutely knocked it out of the park with their portrayals of Ty and Eric. I am in awe. They got me to fall back in love with a story and characters that I had already fallen for months ago, but in new and beautiful ways! Incredible work! 👏

First of all, thank you to the author, Lexie Black, for trusting me to arc read her debut novel, Long Live The King!
This was such a fun read right from the very start. It’s a rockstar romance (main male character is a drummer), and the main female character is an aspiring author! The chemistry these two had right out of the gate was soooooo delicious. They go from a one night stand to a working relationship/friendship when he hires her to write his biography. BUT the YEARNING and PINING and flirty moments between the two of them is SO GOOD. My only issue was that the miscommunication at the end of the book got a little messy for me, but maybe that wouldn’t be a big deal to other people. It certainly wasn’t enough to make me dislike the book as a whole, though!
I do want to point out that one of the main characters has a history of addiction and they use on page and reference other addicts/their history with relapse, so please take care if this is a sensitive topic for you.
Overall, I seriouslyl loved this book and can’t wait to see what else Lexie Black writes in the future! 4.75⭐️
🥁🎶👏🏼🥵♥️ Receiving an advanced listener’s copy of the duet narration for Long Live The King was an absolute treat. This audiobook adaptation elevates Lexie Black’s already captivating story to new heights. The dual narration brings Eric and Tyler to life with such emotional depth and nuance that I found myself falling in love with them all over again despite already being thoroughly smitten from my first read.
From the very first chapter, the story grips you and doesn’t let go. I laughed, I cried, and I was utterly swept away. The chemistry, tension, and heartache are amplified through the performance, making this a truly immersive experience. It’s a top-tier production that enhances every twist and tender moment. I simply couldn’t get enough.
Rockstar drummer, Eric Ambrose, meets Tyler Rose while she is outside (freezing) waiting for his band’s concert. He is so taken with her and, later, after the concert, they have a steamy night together.
She’s gone the next morning, though. He spends the next three months trying to find her.
Eric hires her to write his biography and travel with the band, so we get a story within the story.
This story is so emotional. All the feels.

I was lucky enough to listen to the advanced listener copy narrated in duet by James Cassidy and Samantha Brentmoor. It’s an amazing narration by both narrators. James absolutely slays his performance of Eric.
Thank you to the author for an advanced listener copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Obsessed with Eric and Ty! Oh my goodness this book was amazing. I was lucky enough to get to ARC read this book and man was it SSSSOOOOO good. I love a hunky bad boy, a man who is flawed but still gives it his everything and Eric nailed that- he is hot, tattooed, talented and driven, and best of all, so swoon worthy. Ty, sweet Ty is so much a typical girl- trying to be a boss b!tch and hold her own while completely and utterly failing at keeping it together. I resonated with her so much! She could be any girl out there, just trying to fake it until you make it- she just happened to stumble upon one hell of a ‘make it’s deal. This book had me captivated from the first to the last page. I loved getting to know our characters in this way that felt, real. It gave me strong Almost Famous vibes with a very modern day twist (less drugs and booze 😆) and so much slow burn that I was begging for our couple to just get to it and throw down! I am hopeful for more stories in this setting- here’s looking at Josh!
This book is SO good!!! While not a fairy tale, Lexie Black has brought to life the modern day Prince Charming, a kind and respectful man that has done the work and is in tune with his feelings, and yeah, and he's a rock star! This story balances all the things you want in a romance novel - well developed characters, entertaining story lines, perfect pacing, the right amount of sexual tension, and a writing style that keeps you engaged. I cannot recommend this book enough!!! Grateful for the opportunity to be an ARC reader.
Massive thanks to Lexie for entrusting an ALC to me! I don't know where to begin with this one, because I simply loved everything about it. Lexie's debut is a top read of the year for me. The amount of tension packed into this story had me devouring it as quickly as possible; at the same time, I didn't want the story to end. It is evident from the beginning that Lexie is passionate about music and the impact that it can have, and the song choices at the beginning of each chapter fit so perfectly with the story.
Eric Ambrose, our MMC, is the drummer in a popular rock band, Velvet Shadows. A chance encounter with a fan leads to an unforgettable night...and then she disappears. When Tyler Norris has a surprise visitor at her job a few months later, she has no idea what is in store for the next several months of her life. Tasked with writing Eric's biography, she goes on tour with the band, and tensions very quickly begin to rise.
GAH, speaking of tension! Both emotionally and physically, these two were ON FIRE. The forced proximity of a concert tour, resulting in very close quarters on a private RV, made for some electric chemistry. The way that Eric pines after Tyler had me melting into a puddle on multiple occasions...and also wanting to smack her, because HELLO MA'AM, he's literally throwing himself at her feet and she is completely clueless. Once the tension broke, it was the sigh of relief heard 'round the world.
The topics of alcohol/drug abuse and sobriety are heavy in this book, and I recommend treading cautiously if those are sensitive topics for readers. Alcohol abuse is something that personally hits very close to home; I applaud the way that Lexie handled it with care and compassion, whilst simultaneously showing the raw, unfiltered reality of how it affects every aspect of people's lives. Eric has numerous moments of vulnerability when it comes to his struggles, and they are not sugar-coated.
Onto the narration, because holy cannoli. I am a huge fan of both Samantha Brentmoor and James Cassidy, so I went into this audio expecting greatness...and yet, I am still blown away. Their dedication to serving these characters and their struggles is evident in every word, every nuance, every acting choice that was made behind the scenes. Their performances are passionate, heartbreaking, full of hope, and left me devastated in the very best of ways. Emotions bleed through from the pages and into our ears, and I was left in tears on several occasions. The way that James is able to translate the different aspects of musicianship into his performance is incredible. Definitely a top performance of the year for both of these lovely narrators!
Okay, I finished this book two days ago and I have not known peace since. I'm dreaming about it. I'm *hallucinating* drum solos. Every time I hear music now, my brain conjures up the image of Eric Ambrose—tattoos, angst, and all—absolutely murdering it on stage like a sexy, emotionally complex metronome. I tried to Google him, only to remember: HE'S FICTIONAL. Thanks, Lexie Black, for ruining real men for me.
Long Live the King is part rockstar romance, part fictional biography, and 100% my favorite book of 2025. I don't care that it's only May. The rest of the year can pack it up. We're done here.
Eric Ambrose, drummer of Velvet Shadows and walking contradiction, meets Tyler Norris, a sweetly snarky aspiring writer hired to ghostwrite his biography. And what do we get? An *electric* love-at-first-sight moment, followed immediately by both of them panicking and clinging to the boundaries of their contract like it’s a life raft on the Titanic.
Their chemistry? Chef’s kiss. The pining? Olympic level. The emotional depth? I needed a support group. Lexie Black somehow wrote a book that’s swoony, sexy, and soul-crushing in equal measure. It has the glam of rock & roll, the intimacy of late-night confessions, and the heartbreak of two people trying so hard to be professional when all they really want is each other.
And let’s talk about Lexie Black. Debut novel? Are you kidding me? This isn’t a debut. This is someone cannonballing into the literary world with eyeliner on and drumsticks in hand. The writing is addictive, the voice is fresh, and the story hits harder than a Velvet Shadows encore.
So yes, I’m obsessed. No, I’m not okay. And yes, I will be rereading this book while dramatically pretending I’m backstage waiting for Eric to find me and admit he broke the contract too.
Long live Lexie Black. Long live Eric and Tyler. Long live this book that now lives rent-free in my heart (and apparently my dreams).
I loved this book. I’m so proud of Lexie for putting these words on paper and I’m thankful she shared the story of Eric and Ty with all of us.
Not only did I love Eric, but I loved the band Velvet Shadows. Each of the band members came to life through the pages, and the band felt real and raw. In particular, Eric’s hardships and past experiences really turned him into a man that I loved. When he hurt, my heart hurt. He was so endearing, frustrating, and lovable.
Ty was equally likable, but I wish I knew more about her. There is so little revealed about her past, and I couldn’t quite place what made her tick. She was so darn stubborn that she made me frustrated at times, and that was only compounded by the fact that we don’t know what motivates her. I need more of her backstory!
More than anything, I LOVED the soundtrack of this book. I’m not usually one who likes music playing when I read, but I played each track on repeat as I read through each chapter. There were times when the music pumped me up and there were times when the tracks mellowed me out. It brought an entirely new dimension to the story. Based on the acknowledgments, I know that one track inspired the story, but I have to know if the other tracks were added after the chapters were written or if particular songs were chosen that then inspired the writing in each chapter. I feel like the choices were on point and entwined with the storyline perfectly.
One more thing about the writing- for a first time novelist, Lexie hit this one out of the park. I am very critical of writing, especially when it comes to grammar and editing. This book flowed and the conversation felt real. I also loved the little shout outs to some of our local favorites, like Sheetz and Pour. Lexie, be proud, this one deserves a standing ovation!👏🏼 🥁 🌙
I had the absolute pleasure of reading an advance copy of Long Live the King. This stunning debut by Lexie Black is everything you could want in a rock star romance -- emotional, raw, and deeply musical at its core.
You can tell from the very first page how much Lexie loves music. The structure of the novel, with each chapter unfolding like a track on an album, feels intentional and immersive. With the MMC being a drummer in a band, we get a taste of their songs and lyrics. This story is a love letter to music -- its makers and fans -- and the way it shapes identity, connection, and healing.
Told in dual POV, the story centers on Eric Ambrose -- a world-famous drummer who's experienced highs and lows of stardom while staying surprisingly down to earth -- and Tyler, the woman who once idolized him from afar, only to find herself writing his biography. Eric falls first and falls hard, and watching their dynamic shift from fan and star to something much deeper is both satisfying and authentic. It had me remembering my fantasies as a teenager, ha! The interview format sprinkled throughout lets us see a layered, realistic portrayal of a rock star grappling with fame, overcoming addiction, and figuring out life. It never glamorizes his struggles, but instead offers a grounded, tender look at recovery and redemption.
Lexie Black’s writing is honest and heartfelt, with satisfyingly fun banter. Lexie hit every beat with her debut. This is only the beginning for her!
Thank you, Lexie, for letting me read this ARC. I can’t wait to see what you write next. I’ll be in the front row cheering YOU on!
This book sings. Not softly. Not sweetly. But in the way a live wire hums before it sparks — vibrant, electric, impossible to ignore. Long Live the King isn’t just a contemporary romance — it’s a story of creative ambition, backstage chaos, and a love that’s as vulnerable as it is volatile.
Tyler Norris is an aspiring writer with a bruised heart and a single regret: the night she spent with Eric Ambrose. “The King.” Legendary rock drummer. Professional heartbreaker. Emotional recluse. Her plan was to keep her distance. His plan was to rewrite it. What follows is a dual timeline, dual POV slow-burn that dances between wistful memory and razor-sharp longing. And oh — it burns.
There’s so much to love here: the dizzying glamour of life on tour, the quiet moments where trust is built breath by breath, and a heroine whose voice is both raw and resonant. Tyler is guarded and emotionally astute, not some groupie cliché. And Eric — he’s not just a rock star, but a man fractured by fame, haunted by loss, and drawn to Tyler in a way he can’t articulate without a drum kit under his hands.
Their dynamic is magnetic. The “no sex” rule creates a tightrope of yearning that Lexie Black masterfully stretches across nearly every chapter. And because this is a story about telling stories — about truth and who gets to write it — the emotional stakes hit that much harder.
A lyrical, layered love story, Long Live the King is sexy, aching, and gloriously self-aware. If you’ve ever fallen for someone you were supposed to walk away from — or wondered if your best chapters were still unwritten — this one’s for you.
Long Live the King by Lexie Black is a contemporary romance that thrives on tension, humor, and an unconventional twist on the rockstar romance trope. As someone who usually leans toward romantasy, I wasn’t sure what to expect—but I found myself completely hooked, eagerly waiting to see if (or when) Eric and Tyler would finally break the contract and give in to their chemistry.
Eric is a dynamic, layered character—tough on the outside, but with a sharp wit and a surprising softness underneath. His internal dialogue adds humor and depth, making him an easy character to root for. As for Tyler, while we don’t get to know her quite as well in comparison, she brings an endearing nervousness to their interactions, and watching her slowly lower her guard was satisfying.
What really shines in this book is the banter—it’s sharp, funny, and perfectly timed. The tension between Eric and Tyler is palpable, keeping the pages turning. And without giving anything away, the ending took an unexpected turn that made the story feel fresh and unique.
Whether you’re a die-hard contemporary romance fan or just dipping your toes into the genre, Long Live the King delivers a fun, steamy, and well-paced read that’s worth picking up!

I couldn't put this book down! I listened to the audiobook while on a busy vacation and snuck away multiple times so I could finish it. While the book is full of adorable moments between the FMC and MMC, there is a lot of depth that is explored throughout the dual timeline. I love that it delved into Eric's past, giving us a better understanding of him. The love story between Tyler and Eric illustrates the importance and impact of patience in a relationship. Tyler wasn't afraid to face Eric's struggles head-on with him. In return, Eric put in the time and effort to show Tyler what she truly meant to him when she wasn't able to see it herself. This story takes your heart on a journey of healing and learning how important the people you choose to surround yourself with really are. There is strength and beauty to be found even in the darkest parts of ourselves.
Narration: Samantha Brentmoor and James Cassidy both performed this story beautifully. Samantha gave Tyler softness and compassion with a side of stubborn self-preservation needed for her character. James mastered the complex layers of Eric, balancing emotional depth, rawness, and the softer, silly moments of the MMC.
This was a triple threat for me: rockstar romance, Samantha Brentmoor, and James Cassidy. Sold. Sold. and Sold. Lexie Black’s Long Live the King is everything I want in a rockstar romance: soulful, a little messy, and full of that electric, slow-burn connection.
Eric Ambrose isn’t your typical bad boy drummer; he’s flawed and raw, but there’s such beauty in his brokenness. And Ty... she's sweet and stubborn. An aspiring author trying to keep her heart out of a story she’s already written herself into.
Their chemistry is magnetic, the yearning is exquisite torture, and the emotional depth? Absolutely gutting in the best way. It’s a story about fame, forgiveness, addiction, and the art of choosing love even when it’s complicated.
James Cassidy voices Eric; his voice carries that perfect blend of grit and vulnerability that makes you believe every word. And Samantha Brentmoor gives Ty a warmth and quiet strength that wraps around you like comfort and chaos all at once. Together, they make this story sing.
This debut from Lexie Black is a love letter to music, and I loved it.

I cannot believe this is a DEBUT! I’m usually pretty hard and critical about debuts because everyone has room to grow but this book was *beautiful*! The growth that Eric had was so amazing! And there were times as a reader I wanted to shake Tyler for her naïveté, because I knew Eric’s side of things, but honestly I’d probably be in the same boat as her if my favorite famous rockstar was pursuing me.
This story was so emotional and angsty but so so beautiful. I encourage everyone to read it, and the audio just made it 1000x better with Sammy B and James Cassidy at the helm as Tyler and Eric. They were the perfect cast for this couple. Their ability to perform and actually act out the parts, not just reading the words on the paper is just absolutely phenomenal.
The story gripped me from the start. There was some predictability. I'm not normally a miscommunication trope girl (or no communication) but it was the basis of the story instead of something used in a third act break up so it worked better in this context. I like that Ty got to know Eric. I liked his backstory that was told through their interviews. I didn't know drums aren't recorded live anymore - if that's true that boggles my mind!
I would be excited to read more from the author. I appreciate them letting me read a digital ARC.
SPOILER I do feel like his fall from sobriety at the end wasn't treated with the seriousness it needed to be. There needed to be a conversation that he wouldn't fall off if they had a fight or something; it was all about their miscommunication and being in love instead.
Does it end with a baby and marriage? A baby and a proposal

It’s 1:10am and I just finished this book. I’m typing through tears of pure happiness. From the moment I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. And when I did, I was thinking about when I could read it again. It was perfect. Eric is top tier book boyfriend. The banter. The flirting. The angst. The lust. ALLLLLLLL of it. It was pure perfection. Whatever Lexie Black puts out, I’m going to read. Period. Will you be my bff? lol!!!!! But seriously, the way she writes? It’s like you’re there, on that tour bus, waiting for Ty to say “f it.” There were sooooo many times I wanted to shake Ty and Eric through the book. Like, STOP BEING STUBBORN!!!!! And the forced proximity? Shut up. Ugh. lol!!! Lexie- you’re an amazing storyteller, girl. Seriously. Any time you need an arc reader- Im ready!
I really enjoyed reading Long Live The King by Lexie Black. If you like:
🔸️Forced proximity 🔸️Rockstar relationship 🔸️He falls first 🔸️Duel POV 🔸️Spice then you're going to love this. Eric is the drummer for a world-famous band, and Ty is the woman who he rescues from torrential rain . . .and then spends 3 months searching for her after she leaves without leaving her number or even her full name.
This is a debut by an independent author - and I can't wait to see what she releases next.
Massive thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for my honest opinion.
I'm going to start by giving a huge thank you to @lexieblackbooks for letting me an ARC reader for this book!!!
It was a different take on a rockstar romance, but I absolutely loved it!! I really enjoyed getting to learn so much about Eric throughout the book and getting a "peek" into the life of a drummer for a famous band!! Tyler(Ty) was instantly my kind of girl! I love how dedicated she was to seeing his concert, but she wasn't one of those girls who was obsessed with him. She just got lucky!! The only thing that I would change about this book would be getting to know Ty more because I think her character was amazing. I just wanted more of her!
I really enjoyed this. As someone who listens to punk/emo/screamo/alternative music I felt like I was reading a story based on my favorite band. Which as I know the author wrote this about her favorite band so it makes it all the more interesting. I loved the depth to the story and how personal the interview felt and just the way the characters interact with each other. My only downfall was sometimes the flash backs were a little confusing and I would have to go back and see what I missed in the time line. I will 100% be keeping my eye on this author and her future work.
I really enjoyed this book! It gave me Abby Jimenez vibes in this story about a rock legend( who falls harder) who has lived his rock star life and falls for a long time fan. This book has it all- serious real life topics, funny moments, and very relatable characters. Just like my other favorite romance authors, this is one author who I will be watching closely and reading everything she puts out!
If I could rate this book higher than five stars I would.
Eric, “The King”, is the drummer for Velvet Shadows, and Tyler is a fan of the band and her goal is simply to see them perform, when fate intervenes and changes their lives in ways neither of them expected.
I have to say that I absolutely loved every moment of Tyler and Eric; though there was a time or two where I was just wishing they’d kiss already!
I highly recommend this book… I didn’t want it to end!
Audio Review Duet Narration by Samantha Brentmoor and James Cassidy
Long Live the King was an excellent debut novel by author Lexie Black. I love a good rockstar romance and this one did not disappoint. So much yearning between Eric and Ty. Wonderful side characters and banter throughout. There are struggles with addiction and heartbreaking backstory.
Performed in duet narration by Samantha Brentmoor and James Cassidy. They were perfect for Ty and Eric and truly brought the story to life.
I have a hard time believing this is a debut novel by Ms Black, as it was one of the better rock novels I have read this year. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know not only Tyler but Eric, especially through his stories about the events that shaped him. I also appreciated that the main characters and side characters acted their ages instead of acting like over grown teenagers. I am so looking forward to Josh's story, and spending more time with the band.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing was beautifully done. It was my first rockstar romance novel and the description of everything musical was detailed so perfect that I could feel the passion behind it.. I loved the characters, their backstories and the back third of the book really picked up and got me. I will definitely read again and look for more from this author!
This book was so fun! I really loved these characters and all the music details that were weaved into the story. The dual timeline really helped us get to know the characters and unravel their stories. On top of that, the pacing was perfect! I was immediately drawn into the story and it kept me hooked the whole way through!
So much of this book was about Eric’s sobriety. Which I loved! But I can’t get past the fact that Ty FINALLY hooked up with him knowing he had relapsed and was then upset he didn’t remember. I HATE that this was the final “coming together” scene and there was no addressing the fact that he threw away 5 years of sobriety.

This book had me hooked from the first page! I found myself relating to the characters & just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, there would be a twist I didn’t see coming. I need more of Eric & Ty, when does book 2 come out?
I loved reading about Ty and Eric! I did get a little confused when Eric would talk about his past because there weren't clear markings that it was the past. The epilogue was really cute.
