Where do I begin? First, I have to speak about Quinn as a person, she is THE sweetest author! I am amazed after the success of her books that she keeps in touch with her fans as well as she does. She still reaches out to those of us who tweet her something and that blows me away. I've enjoyed every little interaction we have had and can tell she is such a cool person. She also happens to be one author that makes me giddy with her stories! I didn't know how much I miss them until she publishes a new one and it's like escaping all over again into another world. Such a pleasure to read!
I had the privilege of reading "Into the Fae" and wowsers, ok people listen up, GET EXCITED, GET VERY EXCITED! I wasn't sure what to expect from this book because I'm all about my wolves and what kept me so intrigued was one, it was a Quinn book (duh) but two, it was going to have some of my wolves in it and that was enough to get me looking forward to its release. But, little did I know "looking forward" to something and "HOLY COW I CAN"T WAIT" which is what I should have been thinking because it is THAT good. I will say this book is a great "set up" book to the series because it introduces characters, the villains, the plot, some of the heroes etc... that will then take you (I have no doubt) on a wild, crazy, bumpy, thrilling ride. And I'm so ready for MORE! But, don't let the fact that it is a first book fool you, it has action, love, tragedy wrapped up into it! So look out!
Ok so down to business. Into the Fae is about Peri and Lucian (and more but I'll get to that in a bit). Will Peri accept her mate? Will she SUBMIT?! Will she learn to let go of her own self-consciousness to love Lucian? Will Lucian ever understand what Peri is talking about with her crazy words? Will he fall in love with Peri? It's soooo hard to not want to give away answers but then where is the fun in that AND as the Great Luna says, "it's about the journey". :) I love Lucian and the wisdom he brings. Some of my favorite scenes are of Lucian stepping into an Alpha role of their rag tag team (you'll have to read to find out who makes up this team). I found myself liking Peri's character more because of how Lucian balances her and you see a side of Peri we have not seen before.
The plot of this book is that Peri wants to seek revenge on her crazy sister Lorell. (NOTE: I will say if you have not read Quinn's Grey Wolf Series books, go get them NOW! They really make this book so much richer like it should be because you have the background of many of these characters and an established understanding when you start to read it. You could still read "Into the Fae" without having read the Grey Wolf Series but you really are missing out). Peri is all about revenge but is given a new mission by the Great Luna. There are HEALERS out in the world that do not know of their heritage and it is up to Peri to find them and make sure they are safe and teach them about being a healer. I LOVE, LOVE this plot, it is beyond cool and probably because I didn't' see that coming! Why do I love this plot so much....BECAUSE healers mean true mates and true mates mean grey wolves!!! Squeal with me girls!!!!! Ok, everyone done? Well, I got so excited after reading that I didn't know whether to speed read, go slow, scan and then come back or WHAT TO DO!!! THEN, if Quinn hadn't given me a heart attack with such good news with the plot, she describes the healers lives and WHOA, didn't see THAT coming either! They are NOT Jen, Jacque, and Sally (Grey Wolf characters) who were middle class white girls living in a small Texas town, they each have suffered and are broken! I like the darkness of these characters because I think that makes the joy and love they crave that much richer to their story and (hopefully) a happy ending. AND my mind starts thinking about how much their mates will be able to help them but also how protective they will be of their little healers. So sweet! I loved getting to know the girls and a glimpse at their personalities and will enjoy learning more about them in the coming books!
Oh wait, for those of you that LOVE the Fae characters, yes this book is also about the Fae, Adam and Elle are back along with their mates. I know many of you love Adam so you will be happy to know he is in this book. Those of you, like myself, who love Costin and Sally, they too are in this book and I couldn't be happier! Jen and Dec have a really fun scene with Lucian that I know people will enjoy. Jacque and Fane are "seen" but that is it (for now). I think Quinn said those 4 will have a very small role in this Fae series.
I love Quinn's pacing of "Into the Fae". At first when I saw that it's about 230 pages, I thought, that's it!!!! Well, to be honest I wish a Quinn book was ALWAYS 500 pages (poor Quinn, I have no mercy because I ALWAYS want loooooong books from Quinn, heehee) BUT the way she paces Peri and Lucian's when or if they will bond was right on (in my opinion). And the revealing of the healers and the action at the end of the book was smooth and transitioned well! Really, although it pains me to say this :), the pacing and the length of the book was perfect. I'll deny I ever said that if Book 2 is shorter. grrrrrrr :) I hope that as we dive more into the characters and the plot that it will naturally increase the length of future books in this series like Quinn did in the GWS.
Enjoy and savor every word of "Into the Fae", it is so much fun and you will NOT be disappointed. Let Quinn take you on a journey!
