He turned his back on God a long time ago. But God never forgot him.
Six months after struggling actor Lane Harris lost his husband in a tragic accident, he lands a movie role guaranteed to put him on the Hollywood map. But one producer holds the power to shut down his shot at stardom—and she’s a Christian. If she finds out he's gay, it's over. Lane is careful not to say too much around her.
When an alcohol-fueled tryst with his co-star ends in humiliation, and his landlord hands him an eviction notice, Lane looks for someone to talk to. He finds a confidant in the Christian producer. After a night of too little sleep and not enough coffee, he lets slip his sexual orientation. Instead of a verbal flogging, the woman recounts recently losing her own husband.
The only Christians Lane knows condemn him upon learning he's gay. But this one is different. She doesn't embrace his sexuality, but instead of treating him with disdain, she offers compassion. Christians are supposed to hate people like him. So, why doesn't she?

With Mercy's Eyes by D. T. Powell is an issue-facing Contemporary novel for adult churched Christians. It addresses homosexuality and same-sex attraction from a Biblical perspective without falling into the trap of the extreme responses we too often see from modern churches. It holds similar views to Jackie Hill Perry, Becket Cook, Rosaria Butterfield, and Christopher Yuan.
Since I started writing seriously in 2013, I've written Science Fiction and Fantasy almost exclusively.
But this book had to be different.
I never thought I'd write a Contemporary novel, much less publish one--and especially not one that deals with topics like homosexuality and same-sex attraction.
As a Christian in what most would readily label "fundamental" circles, I see these topics too often pushed into the corner, spoken of in whispers, or with nervous laughter. There's also the temptation to fall into one of two extremes--either accepting something God clearly calls sin, or immediately and unconditionally exacting judgement on anyone who even so much as hints at thinking about these issues. There's a lot of fear surrounding the discussion of homosexuality and same-sex attraction. But God doesn't call us to have a spirit of fear.
Despite knowing that, when I first understood what I was being asked to do in writing this book, I was very much afraid. Afraid of what others would think and say, afraid of what this would mean for my writing career, afraid of repercussions in personal relationships. I was so afraid I didn't even put my name on the drafts. I had a penname chosen and ready to pin everything on.
Then, through a quiet process I can't even begin to trace, God melted that fear one piece at a time. He replaced it with love--for this story, for the gifts He's given me, for a group of people Christianity has neglected, and more than anything, a more mature love for Him.
There is a reason this book is for adults. But it isn't because there are explicit scenes or strong language in it. It's because this book deals head-on with tough topics that a YA audience (or even most New Adult readers) are not ready to face in this intense of a theater. I've also included a full page content warnings section, so all readers can make an informed decision about whether they're ready for this book. I know I wouldn't have been ready even in my early twenties, so if you decide not to pick up this book, or not to pick it up *yet*, I understand, and I'm happy to be able to help you make the best decision for wherever you are in your life at the moment.
If you do decide to read this book, know that I and many others have already been praying for you for a long time.
God brought this story to me when I needed it most, and I trust He'll also bring it to you in His perfect timing.
When I began this book, I had no idea what to expect. I am not one to read contemporary Christian fiction, let alone books with homosexual main characters. Yet, the book drew me in with the tragic story of Lane, a Hollywood actor whose life is turned upside down when his husband dies. This book was hard to read-not because of the writing style, but because of the content. Although written without graphic descriptions, this book covers tough topics, such as suicide, abortion, rape, domestic violence, promiscuity, alcoholism, drug addiction, etc. It is one of those books that don't revel in sin, but expose it for the heartbreak it is. That is why it was hard to read-because I empathized so much with Lane, it was hard to read about his trials. I tend to gravitate toward books that make me feel good, not books that make me cry. And cry I did, in a good way, as I followed the story of Lane. Leigh, the other narrator, was also compelling, and her story drew me in, too. At first, I had to take a break to read this because it was tough. But at some point, the plot turned in an unexpected way, and I had to finish it. What I thought would be hard to finish turned out to be surprisingly delightful, as it showed what faith and joy truly means. Thank you, D.T., for writing this book. It shows the most Biblical way of approaching such tough topics, ending in a way that does not diminish or shy away from the answer, but instead leaves the reader satisfied. A fantastic Christian fiction book for any reader willing to face the reality of life with Mercy's Eyes.
A MUST-READ FOR CHRISTIANS! Ms. Powell unashamedly tackles issues that are still taboo within the Christian Fiction community, and she does it through a relatable, easy-to-read contemporary story. More importantly, she provides a balanced, Biblical view, both holding to the truth and loving people as Christ loves them. If nothing else, this book will lead readers to more prayerfulness and consideration about how we can it to our interactions with those who experience same-sex attraction.
As a Christian it is some times hard to respond to certain issues in life, "With Mercy's Eyes) one can see how to deal with a variety of issues. This is an excellently written book, very fast pace and will keep you totally interested right up to the very end. I did cry in several places and also thanked the Lord for showing me some ways to respond to every day life.
This is a big book, over 500 pages. It deals with a large number of issues from infant death to (off stage) rape to eviction to harsh prejudice to the tragic death of a spouse to social media slander and more. There are a great number of trigger situations included. Potential readers should closely look at the book synopsis before reading.
That being said, I found this novel engaging. It may have gotten off to a slow start and there may have been too much of the emotions a gay spouse feels in the first half, but the last half of the book was good. In fact, one should have a box of tissues near as the novel's end is approached. There is a very clear gospel message present, including praying the sinner's prayer.
Powell does not hold back and compassionately tackles some very serious issues in this novel. She adds some very interesting comments and insights in her Discussion Guide as well as great Discussion Questions. This would be a good book for a discussion group although it is much longer than most novels. I do recommend it but do be aware of the content.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
This story grabs you by the emotions and heartstrings from the very first sentence, and tugs (or even yanks) you throughout the entire story. You definitely need to heed the trigger warnings offered.
I was hesitant to read With Mercy's Eyes because of those trigger warnings, but I am certainly glad I did choose to read it. It's compelling. It is an emotional read, yes, but it also clearly pictures how Jesus loves us no matter how large or small our sins. It also shows us as Christians how we should treat sinners (because, honestly, we are all sinners!): with love, compassion, non-judgmentally, and tenderness.
Lane captured my heart from the beginning, and the grief he suffered. Vic's story also tugged at my heart. It's beautiful how God continued to gently woo each of them to Him. Just be aware, there are plenty of raw emotions in this story, but the healing that comes is beautiful, and well worth the read.
If you are looking for contemporary Christian fiction that tugs at your heart and makes you leave experiencing His love in a new way, I definitely recommend With Mercy's Eyes.
I received a complimentary copy. These opinions are my own.
This was an emotional and compelling read that didn’t shy away from tough topics. With Mercy’s Eyes touches on issues like suicide, abortion, rape, domestic violence, promiscuity, and alcoholism, so it can be heavy at times and definitely isn’t for everyone. That said, these topics are handled with care and serve a clear purpose in the story.
What stood out to me most was the heart behind the book. Above all, it emphasizes compassion—reminding readers that no one type of sin is worse than another and that we are called to love people the way Christ does while still holding to biblical truth. This is something the church desperately needs more of today.
The writing kept me engaged, and the story was both emotional and thought-provoking. I think this book will resonate most with readers who are already believers. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to individuals struggling with same-sex attraction unless they are already open to a traditional biblical perspective, as the message could otherwise be received negatively.
Overall, this is an inspiring story that encourages readers to approach others with greater grace, humility, and mercy.
"With Mercy’s Eyes" by D.T. Powell is a large book with over 500 pages. It was a good book and kept me turning the pages. I recommend this book for all Christians but with a warning because it deals with issues such as infant death to rape and harsh prejudice because the main male character is homosexual, to the tragic death of a spouse to social media slander and suicide attempts. This novel made me sad at times, but it is a good read. Some of the events hit really close to home, but I'm still glad I read the book. This book does share the gospel message. The author shares her beliefs and more at the end of the book.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
This is one of the best books I've ever read. It handles issues sensitively and well. I laughed, cried, gestured and gasped throughout it. When I realised who Leigh was I gasped out loud. I loved how the characters mirrored one another's journeys while not being too samey. I appreciated how Lane didn't have another romantic partner as it would've felt shoehorned. Really good book and its issues are deeply considered. While I don't agree with all conclusions, it's still valuable.
Wow, this book is absolutely phenomenal! I primarily read romance so this book was definitely outside my comfort zone, but as soon as I read the description I knew I HAD to read it, and I jumped at the chance to sign up for a review tour for it! This is one of those books that is so profoundly beautiful that it’s incredibly hard to write a review that does it justice! I was captivated by this book from the very beginning and could not stop reading. Lane and Vic are both very compelling characters and I quickly became invested in both of their stories. I loved watching God gently draw Lane to Himself from page one. And seeing The Gospel become personal to Lane was excellently written! I applaud the author for having the courage to follow God’s leading and write a story that tackles many topics (including homosexuality and same-sex attraction) that tend to be considered taboo in Christian fiction, and not only that, but she does so brilliantly in a loving, truthful, God-honoring, non-explicit, non-judgmental, non-affirming way. This book beautifully illustrates what it looks like to love others as Christ loves us! Every page of this story reminds us that we are called to view everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE through eyes of mercy! I’m so glad I read this story! It’s very needed in today’s world, and in my opinion it’s a MUST READ for every Christian! If you enjoy hard hitting, emotional reads that will challenge your heart and make you think then you will LOVE this book! Please read this book, I guarantee you will be overwhelmed by the depth of Jesus’ love for us! Bravo, D.T. Powell! I wish I could give this book infinite stars! It’s one of my favorite reads of 2025 and I most highly recommend it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and I also purchased my own Kindle copy as well! My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
With Mercy’s Eyes is a real, down-to-earth look at how people with same-sex attraction are treated by the church and what the Bible has to say about it. Just as prominent a theme is the question of why God allows bad things to happen to good people. The answers to these questions are not easy and take the entire book to address, but nothing feels forced or preachy. The author treats these subjects with the care and truth they deserve. The format of this character-driven novel is short, easy-to-read chapters and scenes that alternate between Lane’s present-day POV and Leigh/Vic’s past POV. Scenes are labeled with the date and location to help the reader keep track of the timelines. Some scenes end abruptly because the location changes, requiring a new heading. While the external plot is minor compared to the internal or spiritual battle, the prose is compelling and well-written. It was a nice change of pace from the plot-centered fantasy action-romance novels I normally read. The story sucked me into an impenetrable reading time-warp where I was uninterruptible, and I couldn’t put it down. Sophie, Vic’s young daughter, was one of my favorite characters. Her unwavering faith and spiritual attunement contrasted with the pain and suffering of those around her and added a layer of hope to the darkness. In the first half, Lane makes poor choices that worsen his depression and dig him deeper into financial ruin. It was hard to watch and reminded me of Francine Rivers’ Prodigal Son retelling, Return to Haven. Finally, when there is nowhere to go but up, he becomes open to answers to his questions. The story reminds us that God’s love can reach anyone anywhere. What I found most interesting was the author’s views on the correlation between spiritual gifting and emotional sensitivity that tends people to particular sins. Another novel idea was how fiction can be used to reach people as powerfully as an in-person encounter. Leigh/Vic uses a story within the story to explore her hidden animosity toward God and his plan in a convincing way. While not explicit, With Mercy’s Eyes deals with some heavy topics, and adults should prayerfully consider whether they are ready to read it or not. There is a fade-to-black scene between two unmarried people and a kissing scene between two women. Not everyone may be satisfied with the answers given in the book, and I encourage everyone to read the Bible to study the topics for themselves and to look at others with Mercy’s eyes.
With Mercy’s Eyes is a raw and emotionally charged novel that follows Lane Harris, a gay actor navigating grief, spiritual trauma, and identity after the sudden death of his husband, Stephen. Set against the backdrop of Hollywood and faith communities, Lane's journey unfolds through a string of gut-wrenching losses, unsettling confrontations, and tentative spiritual rediscovery. Powell doesn’t flinch from heavy themes—suicide, sexual assault, domestic violence, and faith-based rejection—and she handles them with a steady hand and an unwavering desire to show the heart of God without watering down the pain of real life.
Powell's writing is lyrical and fierce and filled with dialogue that feels lifted straight from a real argument or heart-to-heart. There’s a deep, aching sadness in Lane’s life that never feels manipulative or preachy. His grief is suffocating, but it’s honest. The way Powell lets faith trickle in, not with neon lights or loud salvation moments, but through quiet, broken interactions, is powerful. I don’t often find Christian fiction that’s willing to sit with the tension and not rush to a clean ending, but this one does.
A few of the side characters, particularly the ones in conflict with the main cast, didn’t feel as fully developed as I hoped. And some of the redemptive turns happened a little faster than expected, especially after such heavy events. Still, maybe that’s intentional. Life has a way of offering hope at unexpected times. As for the spiritual themes, not every reader will interpret them the same way, but Powell approaches them with grace. She gives her characters room to question, to stumble, and to search, and that openness is something I appreciated.
With Mercy’s Eye is messy and brutally honest. But if you’ve ever struggled with feeling outside the reach of grace—especially within Christian circles—it’s a healing balm and a challenge. I would recommend With Mercy’s Eyes to readers who aren’t afraid to have their worldview shaken a bit. To those who’ve been hurt by the church. To those who want to believe in mercy again, even if it comes through tears.
An exceptionally composed, impactful piece of literature, with characters that continue to inhabit your thoughts long after you have closed the book. Undeniably, God is manifesting His influence through this great author.
As readers navigate through the story, there arises an invitation to rethink perspectives on various aspects of life, facilitated by the diverse thought-provoking themes that stimulate introspection, particularly in how we all live out our faith. Resultantly, this piece serves as a moving reminder of the necessity of emulating Christ in our everyday conduct, prompting us to contemplate our actions and mindsets as we navigate the complexities of life.
Powell's writing is marked by an extraordinary talent for honesty, allowing readers to deeply connect with the characters' emotions and experiences. The emotional depth of the story is striking, in a favorable sense, as it does not hesitate to confront challenging feelings and tough scenarios. And, through intertwined stories that address a wide range of human experiences, from the depths of despair and illness to the uplifting power of love and friendship, it effectively illustrates that no one is beyond the scope of God's grace; he wishes to extend His strength and compassion to us all. A standout feature of this book for me, is the exceptional discussion guide that accompanies it, which enhances the reading experience significantly, allowing readers to reflect more deeply on the themes presented. Personally, I was taken aback by the feelings that emerged in me as I navigated through it!
Consequently, in my view, this tale is not only compelling but also functions as a powerful ministry, inviting personal transformation rather than merely serving as a source of entertainment. I strongly encourage taking the time to read it!
There aren't enough books like this on the Christian market, and I was happy to run across this one, thanks to a friend sending me a link to it. It is a long book - 532 pages, not counting the discussion questions and other extras. So it was a bit daunting, but I did read it in one afternoon.
The book is fairly slow-paced for most of the story. This isn't a fast conversion story - not really a spoiler that there is a conversion...you figure there will be....but the author takes her time getting there.
And that makes sense. Lane is a gay guy married to another man, who dies at the beginning of the first book. His Christian parents kicked him out when he was 18, and 20 years later he doesn't have a any good feelings about God and Christians. He isn't going to turn to God within the first couple of chapters.
Speaking of Lane....The author did an excellent job on him. His past, what he was going through, his experiences with Christians and the church. And man, did he have it rough. Kind of like a gay Job. :) But he is impossible not to like, and you can't help but root for him.
And he isn't the only likable character. There is Vic (Victoria). She ends up playing a huge part in his story, and man I was about sobbing towards the end of the book the way her part in the story played out.
I have read a handful of books that deal with this issue, and I believe this is by far the best one I have read. The way the author handled it, the truths from the Bible she brought out...even the truths from a fictional novel Lane read that Vic wrote...this was a heartbreakingly beautiful story that brought out some truths I needed. The title, With Mercy's Eyes...I cannot explain it well, but the author brought out the idea of spiritual gifts, and that what so many gay people do is a sinful manifestation of what might be a spiritual gift. (Not saying being gay is a gift, but loving people and having the gift of mercy...the author explains it at the end of the book).
Anyway, this is a book that is worth reading. It is more than a fictional account of a messed up guy who comes to the point we all need to come to. It is a beautiful story of God's love and how He works in our lives, no matter how far we have gone.
Special thanks to the author for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own. **This is an issue I struggle with myself, and I feel the author did a tremendous job of how she handled it.
I knew this would be a very difficult book to read because the author lets us know the topics that will be in the story. When I read this from the story , “Why does it matter? If it makes her feel better let her.” This was referring to someone who prays over their food. I believe that we should all take a step back and be careful that we are not judging others because they don’t believe what we believe. This book will be an eye opener for some and asking forgiveness. We have one life. I strive to give mercy, acceptance and unconditional love to everyone.
I appreciate how the author writes a deeply moving story that illustrates how a person’s life can change in an instant. I witnessed Lane’s life fall apart little by little. His grief overwhelms him as he tries to move on after a tragic death. Just when he thinks he is back on track, rumors swirl around him.
Monica sure does have something against Lane and loves to spread nasty rumors about him. The enemy found a way to get Lane to take the bait. Let’s just say he pretty much ruins his career in a second of anger. As I thought about Monica, I saw a sad woman who needs to have attention in order to feel better about herself.
I loved Vic so much because she finds beauty in everything. We see glimpses of her own story scattered throughout the book. It was not by accident that God placed her in Lane’s path. They may have different lifestyles but Vic shows grace and shares Jesus with him. The book is one I will never forget. Thank you to the author for writing a story where unconditional love is shared. There is no judgment only compassion as Vic gives Lane hope.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Contemporary Christian Fiction is a genre that I read often. With Mercy's Eyes by D.T. Powell is the latest book that I have read. The Synopsis of this book really piqued my interest and I really felt the need to read this book.
I began reading this book as soon as I had it and it really was hard to put down. The main character Lane has had a struggle with life, mainly as of recent, but also since he was 18. It has been 6 months since Lane lost his husband due to a tragic accident. He is happy to have landed a major acting role, yet at the same time knows he will have to hide his homosexuality from the Christian Producer of the role. Lane thought life on going well, and then life gets complicated. Lane has a drunken argument with his co-star, he gets evicted by his landlord and he is feeling really down in the dumps. He finds solace in an unexpected person, the Christian Producer of the movie he is starring in.
I can honestly say this is a book that is much needed in today's society. The topics addressed in this book are "taboo" to the Christian Church and they shouldn't be. D.T. Powell really is a GREAT Writer and Author and this is the first book by her that I have read. The "taboo" and trigger topics mentioned in this story are Infant Death, Suicidal Thoughts, Sexual Assualt and the main Character being Gay. I really LOVE how the book shows us that we can have Compassion and LOVE for any and all these "taboo" topics, especially Homosexulaity. Chrisitans are taught to show LOVE and Grace, yet many times the Church isn't LOVE to the Gay Community, even when it comes to family members. The book is quite long, over 500 pages, but it is definetly a GREAT read. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a DEEP read!
This book is incredible. It handles this topic with so much truth and grace and is so balanced with the weight of reality and a beautiful display of how the gospel works in our hearts. It is such a powerful and needed perspective on handling Christian friendships in response to homosexuality.
Lanes grief and struggles are portrayed so realistically and honestly, and no part of his journey in this book is treated lightly or without respect. And Vic’s story is equally as compelling and powerful. D T Powel truly understands this topic and illustrates how Christians can interact without compromise and love without overlooking truth, and speak truth, that is gentle instead of harsh.
For Christians looking to navigate friendships and conversations about same sex attraction from a Christian worldview, they will find this a helpful perspective that can lead them to share the mercy of Christ.
For any Christian struggling with same sex attraction, they may find a new perspective on the root of this sin and how evil distorts what is meant for good.
The book is intended for mature audiences, for reasons beyond just dealing with homosexuality. This book also depicts assault (fade to black-no explicit content at all in this book), self-harm and suicide attempts, and infant loss.
I received a ARC of this book, I was not required to leave a good review.
In this book the lives of two interesting and similar characters are intertwined. The reader is taken on a painful, frustrating, emotional, and ultimately inspirational journey of both these characters as they learn what true love is and what it truly means to follow God.
Why should you read this book? Powell does a wonderful job portraying three segments of American society: non-Christians, represented by Lane; Legalistic Christians and/or Christians in name only represented by Lane’s parents; true followers of Jesus represented by Vic and her family and church.
If you’re a reader that likes your emotions to run rampant while reading, then this book is for you. I felt anger, frustration, pity, grief, sympathy, empathy, and inspiration all throughout.
This is a book everyone who professes Christianity should read. I believe non-Christians will also benefit from reading it. At a minimum they will gain a better perspective of who Christians are supposed to be, not the way we are portrayed by the media or Hollywood.
It’s over 500 pages, but it reads fast. Again, I highly recommend reading this book to potentially gain a new perspective on one of the hottest topics in our country today.
What a book. I almost didn’t read this book, after a quick glance at the description, but later I read the description more carefully and then chose to read it after all. It is not an easy read, as it deals with some very hard, dark issues, but engrossing. I had a hard time putting it down as I wanted to keep going to find out if/how Lane got out of the downward spiral of grief and depression from a series of horrible experiences. Since losing a son a number of years ago, I have wondered how people survive loss without knowing God; this author has clearly described how many don’t handle such an experience. I loved many aspects of the story. My favorite part was a conversation in which someone talked to Lane about why he was attracted to another man and why it was wrong; I want to find that conversation again and read it over a few times. I also loved the way Lane was loved and cared for by Christians, and the way a little child ministered to his spirit. I highly recommend this book for people who want to reach the “alphabet community,” with the caveat that they read and heed the author’s warnings at the beginning of the book first.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and these are my honest thoughts about it.
First, I just want to say that I saw some people were upset about the emotions in the first part of the book, but I don't know why. I thought it was so well done! Of course someone who lost someone they loved would grieve. That's real and I'm so glad it wasn't glossed over.
With Mercy's Eyes by D. T. Powell was recommended the other day and so I bought it and read it within 2 days! I have not seen any other Christian books like this and it was done so well!
This is a HEAVY book, but a much needed book. It was very well written and handled with care with the difficult topics. It actually dealt with things that I didn't realize it would until I read the trigger warnings at the beginning, and it was so healing feeling honestly to cry with the characters through grief.
It really shows us that we can love anyone through their life choices without accepting their sin as okay. We all sin, and we all need grace. Some ladies and I were discussing some of the topics in here not long ago and asking, how do we love and show grace, while also not condoning something God says is wrong, and I feel like this book gives a clear example of the power of God's love.
I do recommend this book for those who can handle the heavier topics! D.T. Powell, Author
A Christian fiction book around the subject of homosexuality.
I had only ever seen one book with that premise, and I was really intrigued by D.T. Powell's posts about WME, so I took the chance to ask if there would be an ARC of the book. She was kind to give me one, and this is my honest review.
At first, I was a bit discouraged when the table of contents showed over 100 chapters, but the chapters were short and the story was fast-paced. As a lover of fastpaced stories, that endeared the book to me even more.
I love how WME seeks to address a burning topic and how it shows the right and wrong way for Christians to interact with homosexual people. I most especially love the allegory and symbolism of Christ's sacrifice in Hahnen’En’s story and Lane's life.
I'm not sure this review does WME justice because my thoughts are all over the place, but I highly recommend this book.
I’m glad I read this book. It’s not a genre I would usually choose, but I was intrigued enough to give it a go. I enjoyed the dual POV and thought that hugely enhanced the story, and I was so relieved that the overall message of the book was about how we first and foremost need to have compassion for everyone, and that no one type of sin is more damning than another type of sin. The book could have been shorter in my opinion, and I couldn’t quite maintain suspension of my disbelief during the climax action sequence, but I truly appreciated DT’s courage in writing this book.
I would say this is primarily a book for Christians to read. I would not suggest giving it to SSA friends and acquaintances in the hope that they’ll change. That’s not the point. OUR hearts need to change first. To be softened with compassion towards those who are different, and struggle with different things.
Several months after the death of his husband, Lane gets the chance of a lifetime - to star in a movie being made about a bestselling detective novel. On set, he crosses paths with two women - his costar and the writer of the novel. Both women leave epic impacts on his life BUT in different ways.
*Like the author has said, this book isn't for everyone - but it connected with me.
*This book does touch on homosexuality, rape, cancer, and other (usually) adult issues. There's no language or graphic content. But this is not a kid's book. And it is from a Christian view. If any of this bothers you, this may not be the right fit for you.
I didn't know what to expect from this book but the synopsis had me intrigued by how a Christian responses caringly to a co-worker whose sexual orientation most would react not so kindly to. This is what Lane expects when he accidentally let's it slip that he’s gay. However, his Christian coworkers shows compassion and the love of Christ instead of judgement. What I didn't anticipate from this book was the number of other touchy topics the author incorporates into the story. This story is emotional, compelling and inspirational.
A powerful debut novel, With Mercy's Eyes will open readers' eyes to a new perspective. Compelling, well-written, and gritty, this book will simultaneously challenge its readers and encourage them in their relationship with Christ. Readers who appreciate deep, meaningful fiction will enjoy getting to know the unique and complex characters in this story. Prepare to feel the tug of spiritual growth as the plot unfolds. D. T. Powell is a fresh, much-needed voice in Christian fiction.
