Tokyo Ghoul:Re!

Sui Ishida is his penname; nobody knows his real name or what he looks like.
Are you kidding me? What the hell ? It can't end like this! Almost half of the cast is killed! OMG Kaneki! It was so sad him visiting his childhood. Why everything must be a tragedy for him? Hide? What the hell happened to you? Too many unanswered questions. This is not a good ending. Not a bittersweet one. It was a cliffhanger! Oh God, Why? Okay... My favorite character: Kaneki Ken. Shy, bookworm, kind, considerate, brave, lonely, tragic hero. The best part of this story was the difficulties Kaneki went through and him slowly being crazy and sometimes cruel. The best character change I have seen. Touka- even sometimes she didn't shine , I liked her braveness and love for Kaneki. She was a real Tsundere. Hide: the best friend Kaneki can have. His loyality and understanding were best of him. Tsukiyama: hey I liked that crazy bastard! He was hilarious. Hinami : that kind sweetheart! I believe she would become a great woman. Amon : Not my favorite but the tension between him and Kaneki was exciting. Yoshimura: kind and clever man despite his past. Juuzo: crazy and cruel but his love for Shinohara was heartbreaking. And now here at my favorite quotes:
Don't make me a killer!
What is wrong isn't me. What is wrong is the world!
If you ever write a story with me being in the lead role, it would certainly be..a tragedy...
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??? how is this the end??? it feels like everything was pointless after all... I am so sad.
The Owl reveal though....the Clowns... I need some time to process the information. It’s just too much. 😶 Forgot to mention: Arima is LITERALLY Levi Ackerman of this series. They’re the same person.
My heart has been ripped up and been shredded into minuscule pieces. Reading Tokyo Ghoul has been such a surreal experience; the world-building was brilliant, the characters so interesting and unique, and the panels- oh my god- everything was so beautifully drawn by the Mangaka. I don't know why I put off reading Tokyo Ghoul for so long, I really wish I hadn't. The manga is a whole new experience in comparison to the anime, now thinking about it, the anime is very lacking and disappointing. BLESS THE MANGA. Tokyo Ghoul is by far my favourite manga, and I don't think anything else can trump it. Ever. It will forever remain a classic and my absolute favourite.
The story comes to the final clash and the end of the story (at least on this level). The ending leads to the opening of the series Tokyo Ghoul:re which I guess is a direct follow-up from this series. Honestly I was a little let down in this finale. But if you see this as a continuation into the TG:re series than it's great. I guess it's up for debate.
Overall a dark fantasy with elements pf supernatural horror. I liked it even though it is geared for younger audiences. Thanks!
Sometimes good people make bad choices. It doesn't mean they are bad people. It means they're human
It was a long time ago when I started reading Tokyo Ghoul, but since then, I lived an experience of multiple emotions, and lost myself into a world that was like a dice, with so many different sides and possibilities.
I read a story that was rich and complicated, extremely creepy and gory, breath-taking, perfect for Halloween, heart-stopping and extremely fast-pacing. I read a story about a boy who thought he could protect anyone, and about a world where the definitions of human and monster were blurry and unclear.
I met so many great characters, with layers upon layers of personality and complexions, unique in writing and so well spun that I couldn't comprehend even after I sat for a long time to think about them. I found myself in a crazy but careful world building, where ghouls, the monsters of this story, didn't just exist, but also were fully explained anatomically, had their own organized society and rules.
Like, I can't even fathom how many different meanings and symbolisms this book had about the line between good and evil, the ends and whether they are justified by the means, the tragedy of war and the acceptance of something that is different. The character purposes and pasts were so carefully woven, and everything was leading to something else in such a neat and organized but at the same time mind-blowing way that was taking me aback every time. Every character had a different scope they needed to fulfill as ghouls or investigators and sometimes this was being tangled with the way they were treated in the past, and I found it all very clever.
I also loved the amount of organizations this book had, and how some were pro inferiority, some were pro superiority and some were neutral, for humans and ghouls, because it all reflected the different opinions of humanity in the face of a great issue and I found it very enlightening. The character relationships were all also a delight, whether it was family, friends, lovers or enemies. I found the relationship part in this book very unique and honestly enjoyed it wholeheartedly. There were a lot of trigger warnings about death, torture, PTSD, cannibalism and abuse in this book but the portrayal in some of them was not too graphic so it's up to the reader and what they can handle. The aspects of the limits of science, curiosity and necessity were also explored and I truly loved the insight in these matters.
My favorite characters were:
Overall, it was a very spooky and compelling manga series, and if you are in the mood for some horror (or miss the Halloween that just passed), I suggest you can check it ♥
Until then, goodnight and goodbye wonderful readers ♥ ~Mary
What. The. Actual. FUCK. You can’t end a 14 volume series like that!!!! I don’t know whether I’m happy, sad or seriously pissed - possibly a mixture of all 3. I will say though that it packs a serious emotional punch! I am still reeling!
My goodness this book...*breathes into a paper bag*
This volume (like the previous couple) is jam-packed with action scenes and focuses on the battle between CCG members, the Anteiku clan and the Aogiri tree! Yes, there were still occasions where I hadn't a friggin' clue who was involved just because the artwork is so dark and pretty messy at times...HOWEVER, this did not spoil my enjoyment of the book, and what has been one of the most incredible manga series I have ever read!
Upon finishing the book there were still a few questions/qualms I had:
- Eto Yoshimura (aka Ten Takatsuki) being the ONE-EYED OWL. I mean WTF?! Where did this come from?! I know in the previous volume it was mentioned that the one-eyed owl might be related to Mr. Yoshimura buuuut...did we ever find out that he had a daughter? And why her? I mean...it could have been ANYBODY. I just wasn't expecting that...
- Is Mr Yoshimura dead? I know he's a test subject for the CCG now but does that mean he is dead? Hmmm...
- And what's happened to Kaneki? Did he die?!
- And what was all that about the clowns right at the end?! I thought Uta and Itori were on Kaneki's side but it seems to me that they want him to suffer even more than he already has done!!!
*resumes breathing into paper bag*
I think I need a lie down now.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Well this is the end (For the first Tokyo Ghoul series, there's another after this) but man oh man, this ended way more depressing than I thought it would (and way way different than the Anime series).
Okay so Ken has entered the fight. This is pretty much the Doves verse all the Ghouls we love but in a very bloody fashion. There's no "saving the last minute" or "We'll be okay" no it's a lot of you're dead, rip out your eyes, and getting murdered in fucked up ways. It's almost sad reading it, you can feel the emotions of these characters as they watched loved ones die. Then the end...wtf?
Good: Loved the death of so many characters. They don't feel plot protected. I also enjoyed Kankei's emotional roller-coaster here and his ups and downs. The end result of this volume gives you so chill vibes, the darkness, and the loss of war.
Bad: It gets a bit confusing who's talking and sometimes a bit too many characters on one page to tell who is who at times.
Overall a great, and very dark, way of closing the first half of the series. Now to charter completely unknown territory.
Well, that was… disappointing. This series started off great and just slowly started going downhill in the final few volumes.
First off, I'm glad the series is over but mad that it ended on what appears to be a cliffhanger. I'm going to assume that the sequel series Tokyo Ghoul:Re picks up where this volume left off…
Next point: the action. While I do love an action-packed story, all the action that was happening in this book felt repetitive and left me feeling confused… a lot of characters died, and many ended up losing a limb or two.
Finally, I feel like Sui Ishida didn't put any effort into building or concluding the storyline. None of my questions were ever answered - instead, the ending left me with even more unanswered questions than ever before.
What happened to the CCG conspiracy? What happened to Dr. Kanou and the Aogiri Tree? Why were they experimenting on humans? Are they still experimenting on humans and ghouls? What happened to the twins Kurona and Nashiro? What happened to Rize? What happened to Hide? Is he pro-ghoul or anti-ghoul? Was he eaten? Did he survive the battle? Was he even at the battle or was Kaneki hallucinating? If he was there, why the hell was he there? Did Amon really die, or was he kidnapped and held hostage? What happened to Yoshimura and the One-Eyed Ghoul Eto? Finally, what happened to Ken Kaneki?!
If I decided to read Tokyo Ghoul:Re, would all my questions get answered? (I highly doubt it - I just looked up some of the spoilers for Tokyo Ghoul:Re and it doesn't seem like the series gets any better...).
Stupendo no scusate STU-PEN-DOOOOO!!!!
Oooh I can see this angering lots of fans, but strangely enough this was probably the most enjoyable book of the whole series for me. Extra points for the One-Eyed Owl reveal too.
I had a lot of issues with this series as a whole due to pacing, messy artwork, confusing and/or pointless storylines, and just me being bored. Although, I have the same problems with Attack on Titan and I'm also in the minority there too. I can see the general appeal but I know there are other series that I think do a better job. So obviously, I'm biased. Take that how you will.
Am I going to read Tokyo Ghoul:re? Of course. Because I'm stupid and like to finish things even if they're painful to get through.
I've just finished reading Tokyo Ghoul and finished watching the anime adaptation. One of the best mangas I have ever read. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I don't usually read horror mangas but this one was unavoidable. I recommend this one.
ALL THE CLUES IN CHAPTER 143 ARE POINTING TOWARDS THE POSSIBILITY OF A SEQUEL. PLEASE DONT DISAPPOINT ME ISHIDA SENSEI. WITH THIS ENDING WE NEED A SEQUEL OMFG
YOU CAN'T END A MANGA LIKE THIS! THIS BETTER HAS A SEQUEL (I didn't waste 3-4 days in a row of my live for some bullshit if there is no freaking sequel) (It has a sequel!!) There are so many things I want to know, so many unanswered questions.. but Kanekis story is over...gosh I can't believe it~ This isn't an ending, this is like a horrible cliffhanger! There were so many characters, sometimes it was quite confusing to follow the story. What annoyed me was that some random side-characters re-appear out of nowhere and suddenly they played a big role the whole time.
Hmm. This series has a great setting and characters had a lot of potential but the final feeling is that all that world-building and interesting cast was only scratched from the surface. Many of the characters were brought to the stage, teased a bit and then left at that. Shame, I feel this could've been a much richer series had it kept the cast in moderate numbers and not throw away so many plot points.
It's not a bad series, and had good moments story- and character-wise but as a whole it wasted a lot of its potential.
Yes, I know there's a sequel series, let's see how it deals with the story.
