(4.5 stars) I’ve never read Slaughter before. Why did I wait so long? She walks the perfect line of complex murder investigation meets flawed, likable characters meets refreshing love story. And they all dance rather nicely together, puling one other through a series of plot hops. The subject is a toughie – multiple, calculated rapes that lean uncomfortably close to today’s headlines. Slaughter has a lot to say about how we love to blame rape victims, and it would be nice to think certain readers are paying attention. Her writing packs a resounding punch.
Quite a gripping, yet jarring, read. Some very horrendous stories which were hard to get through, but a good overall plot that kept the pages turning, and an exciting twist at the end that kept me guessing.
This was an excellent read, a real page turner!!! I also love that I can put some of the characters in the book with the faces in the Will Trent series on tv!!
the book shone a light on the horrors of patriarchal mindsets and men exerting power over women. i was able to connect with the main characters, and the ending was unexpected. however, the chapters were extremely long and the book had a slow start, but overall it was a joy to read.
