We survived the Crimson Plague. I built the rules, and the Bloodhawks followed. No questions. No mistakes. Our peace was absolute until two women walked into one of our traps. One is desperate to please. The other? Desperate to escape. Max says we should keep them, but that will bring more problems. Especially her, Aspen. She can fight it all she wants. She’ll run, she’ll resist. But in the end? She’ll be mine. She will be ours.
ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER Book 2 out now! This book contains mature themes, explicit content, and dark romance elements. It features a reverse harem (why-choose) dynamic, where the heroine doesn’t have to pick just one. Expect morally gray heroes, intense situations, and a world where love and survival are equally ruthless. Reader discretion is advised.
I’m Joan, and I write dark romance. I’ve been reading these stories forever, and writing them just for fun… until one day I finally got brave enough to publish.
I really enjoy Joan Morven's writing style. The dialogue and banter is on point and the plot moves smoothly all the way through. At no point did I feel I had to force myself to read.
This a post apocalyptic world setting. It's why choose with multiple POV's. I was actually impressed with how well the multi POV's flowed with a book this size. It was neither rushed or confusing.
Wow, where do I even start with this one? Having just finished reading this gripping tale, I feel like I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster that I never wanted to get off. From the moment I was thrust into the pages of this world after the Crimson Plague, I knew I was in for something special.
The way the rules were established by the Bloodhawks is both fascinating and frightening. I loved how there was a strict code of conduct, yet once the two women stumbled into their world, everything that seemed absolute began to unravel. It set the stage for intense, unpredictable dynamics that kept me reading until the last page.
Aspen, one of the female leads, is such a standout character. She's fierce, witty, and unapologetically strong, which made me root for her from the start. Her smart mouth and defiant spirit really drew me in. I appreciated how she fought against the initial circumstances, adding layers to her character that made her feel real and relatable. Reading her navigate this tough environment while trying to retain her autonomy was both heartbreaking and exhilarating.
The men of the Bloodhawks are complex and morally gray, which injects a thrilling tension into the story. Max, with his protective instincts and layered personality, is utterly captivating. The concept of a reverse harem fits perfectly here, as each character brings out different aspects of Aspen’s personality. I was enthralled by how their relationships developed, with the stakes constantly rising as attachments formed.
What really hooked me was the exploration of the themes of love, power, and survival. The world-building is impeccable; it’s gritty and dark, yet it has moments of tenderness that made me pause and reflect. I found myself questioning the nature of their connections—were they truly building something meaningful, or was it merely about survival? This duality made for some deep, thought-provoking moments amidst the chaos.
The writing style flowed effortlessly, blending action, romance, and introspection in a way that kept me turning the pages long into the night. The explicit content is definitely there, but it doesn’t overshadow the emotional depth of the characters or the plot. Instead, it enhances the intensity of the relationships, making me fully invest in their fates.
In conclusion, this book was a thrilling adventure that kept my heart racing and my mind engaged. If you’re a fan of morally ambiguous heroes, fierce heroines, and dark romance, then you absolutely need to dive into this world. Aspen’s journey—from resisting to embracing her circumstances—established not just a romance, but a beautifully chaotic tapestry of survival, love, and breaking the rules. I can’t recommend it enough!
This book is set in a post-apocalyptic world. The world was decimated by a plague and, of course, humans being humans... they started mini wars without a government to stop them. They pillaged, killed, r*ped and so many terrible things. Those who were immune or survived the plague started communities but stayed in hiding.
The book starts off 10 years after the plague with Aspen. She has been alone for about 4 years after escaping her "community."
Along the way, she saves Bryn from Hunters (more or less r*pists), and they stick together for a few weeks before they fall into the laps of a group of ex soldiers/mercenaries... Knox, Max, Ryker, Dante, and Ethen. They have not been around a woman for 10 years since before the plague... but Aspen is traumatized, doesn't trust men, and just wants to be out on her own again where she feels safest.
I don't want to spoil anything, but what I will say, Aspen is a bad ass. She was able to survive ALONE for YEARS, mostly in the woods. She is strong-willed and able to protect herself when she needs to. She's smart and doesn't back down when it counts. We need more FMCs like her!
This does end on a cliffhanger. Again.. I cannot wait for the 2nd book. I absolutely devoured this book and read it in 1 sitting. I can't wait to see what happens next!
This is... *dark reverse harem *4 males to 1 female (not sure the initials for that... MMMMF? MMFMM? *some MM *post apocalypse *BDSM elements and dynamics *Strong-willed, bad ass FMC
Please read all triggers before jumping into this book. I will list a few but not all... *mentions of SA (not MMCs) *kidnapping and captivity *blood/breath/primal play *PTSD and Trauma
This book was amazing, great from start to finish.
A virus has wiped out most of the world population. Aspen has been alone for years until she rescues Bryn from a group hunters. But they both get caught in one of the bloodhawks traps and taken back to their base.
This book was fast paced but not rushed, and the spice was perfect. Loved the development of the relationships between all of the main characters. Really loved Aspen, always love a fierce FMC.
Even though the plot was fairly obvious but the twist at the end was great. I do love Joans writing style i just flew through it. This does end on a cliffhanger, so i really need to book 2.
Ravaged Saints by Joan Morven is set in a gritty, post-apocalyptic world, where survival depends on loyalty, strength, and the unbreakable bonds within the Bloodhawks — a fiercely loyal group who have carved out order from chaos after the Crimson Plague. When Aspen and her companion are captured, they challenge the Bloodhawks’ strict rules, sparking intense connections that threaten to unravel the fragile structure they’ve built.
The world Joan Morven created is intriguing, and the premise had a lot of potential. However, the first half of the book felt slow to me, with very little plot progression. I would have loved to see the worldbuilding and backstory woven in earlier. Once the plot did kick in and the Bloodhawks’ history started to unfold, I found myself much more invested.
The book leans heavily into the spice, and while I usually enjoy that in a story, here it felt a bit overdone. I wanted more focus on the twists, the deeper relationships, and the survival aspects of the world around them. That said, the final 10% was the highlight for me — packed with reveals, tension, and a cliffhanger that left me curious about what’s next.
Even though it didn’t fully live up to my expectations, Ravaged Saints was still a fun and engaging read. I enjoyed the glimpses we got of the post-apocalyptic world, and I’m invested enough in the characters and their bonds that I’ll definitely be picking up book two.
Thank you to Joan Morven for kindly providing me with an ARC copy. This review is left voluntarily and is entirely my own opinion.
The ratings in this one leave me feeling insane, but no- I didn’t imagine it. This is the same book I attempted to read on KU. Tried but quit 20% through. Why! The! Exclamation! Marks! It felt like a slap to the face every time this supposedly serious book (mention apocalyptic and it’s tempting to take it serious, right?) had yet another statement made by the main character that ended in an exclamation point, like the author has no idea how to convey anything earnest or intense without it sounding like a fourteen-year old’s diary. I would know- FMC’s narrative sounds like my unnecessarily melodramatic wirebound notebooks from my own early teen years, which does not lend myself to assume either the FMC or the author are grown women, and when you walk into the book knowing what to expect the contents feel a little creepy.
I do realize this is 100% mea culpa: I went into the smut world and got excited by the post-apocalyptic setting and got so annoyed with the ick-inducing writing style that I didn’t even get to the smut part. My bad, but I couldn’t imagine wasting any more time reading this.
If you are looking for a dystopian/post apocalyptic read this is isn't it.
The focus is on how much smut the story can get away with. In the aftermath of the world practically ending and women being a commodity, of course Aspen has to find magazines about how to be a submissive and what type. Again Sigh...
The MMCs are all of course some type of Doms with ridiculous names. My poor eyes. What happened to the strong capable girl we first met...?
I was waiting for about 60% for the action to start, no not the naked type, I gave up and read the last 2 chapters thinking maybe just maybe. Nope!! Suddenly Aspen gets a incurable case of TSTL.
firstly, I want to thank the author for this Arc 🖤
unfortunately, this wasn't for me. I dnf it 42% which I'm kicking my self about 😟 i had high hopes for it. not enough story and too heavy on the spice, which for me i love a good spicy book.
I don’t typically go for the post-apocalypse trope, But Joan Morven has become a favourite author of mine after her recent book, Declan, and just as I suspected, she did not disappoint with Ravaged Saints. Multiple POV’s were so well done. So seamless!! Each character is so well defined and intriguing in their own way.
The FMC, Aspen has been surviving alone in the woods for four years!!! She is absolutely incredible. I cannot imagine to isolation, fear and anxiety she must have experienced in all those years. Until she stumbles upon Bryn, and they band together.
Knox , Dante, Max, Ryker and Ethan are ex-military, turned mercenaries who have been living together in a safe and secured fortress-like base camp. With the exception of Ethan, they quickly became my favourite people in the book.
The relationship and dynamics of pairings, trios, etc is so well done, their coming together feels so natural - their chemistry is off the charts❤️🔥
Aspen learns a lot about herself in her time with these men and they have been nothing short of amazing to her. They respect her and see her for who she is: a formidable woman who brings light to their darkness. She has a good heart and is loyal to her new friend Bryn.
Fair warning, this ends on a cliffhanger!
Please review the trigger warnings before reading as some themes may be disturbing to readers.
I received a free ARC of this book and this review is only my opinion.
I received this book as an ARC, but trust me, you're getting my brutally honest opinion here.
I'm a sucker for reverse harem stories, and when there's MM action involved? Even better. Chef’s kiss. Now, heads up: this isn’t your typical sci-fi or hardcore dystopian novel. The world-building is straightforward but solid: humanity got wiped out by a plague (classic) and the leftovers are scraping by in small communities. Oh, and then there are hunters, basically dudes trying to rebuild the world by lunching it into submission.
Aspen, our fierce FMC, absolutely stole my heart. She’s tough, stubborn, but hilariously inexperienced with men, thanks to the fact she was just eighteen when the world went to hell. Girl’s got fire and baby deer energy, and I adored it.
She meets Bryn (no spoilers, but it’s messy and I loved it), and together they stumble into Knox and Max — and listen... Knox could ruin my life and I'd leave him a five-star Yelp review for it.
The girls end up at a hidden base where even more trouble awaits: Dante, Ethan, and Ryker. Insert swooning noises.
The story builds slowly, in the best way — the connections between characters simmer beautifully, and the author sneakily drops hints about what's coming next. Watching two of the characters evolve was so satisfying. Aspen’s gradual surrender to the guys was perfectly paced. And the smut? Let’s just say... if detailed, heavy smut isn't your thing, this might not be your jam. But if you're like me? Strap in, baby. I was kicking my feet, blushing, screaming into pillows, and living for every “fuck it” moment and “if you know, you know” situation. And that CLIFFHANGER. I am feral for book two. Send help. (Or better yet, send the next book
At least we were warned there was a cliffhanger, but damn what a bloody cliffhanger. I’m pulling my hair out waiting already. Like girl, you know how to write, to keep me gripped throughout the story, and yes I struggled putting it down, sitting and reading 88% in one sitting. !!For the ones who dream of being fucked not by one hot mercenary but by the whole damn team. Welcome to the BloodHawks. Don’t bother running. You’re ours now.!! Whole damn team, like hello sign me uppp. After being forcefully taken after her father and brothers died, Aspen ran for her life, for years before she stumbled upon Brynlee, but she didn’t know saving her and running with her for weeks that she would end up in a trap, literally. Forced to stay with 5 hunk of muscle and tattoos men. “I turn my head slightly, locking eyes with the fucking brunette. She’s the one mouthing off; she has balls, that’s for sure!” Aspen is totally a firecracker. Fight or flight kicks in and she fights. Aspen starts to learn more about her body and sexual identity and boy does she. “I’m going to burn that rage out of you, Reaper.” Gosh I lost it. From start to finish I loved every single little bit. I had a bad feeling about Ethan, I didn’t like him, there was something about him that set my hairs on end. (And I loved it) I tried to work out what was going to happen but there was so many twists that threw me off. That ending tho, that I was not expecting, like how?
I’m going to be thinking about these for a long time but need book 2 so fast.
Ngl I dig these apocalyptic setting type books! I was so happy when I received this arc and immediately started reading it.
The book started of with very nice strong female energy, which gave me a very good feeling for the rest of it. Even tho I did immediately feel a bit suspicious toward Bryn.
Anyways meeting the guys was fun, getting to know them and their codenames and dynamics was very nicely written. I enjoyed being let in on their emotions even tho I felt like it could’ve been explored a little more. Don’t get me started on Ethan, he can rot where the sun doesn’t shine.
It was very smut heavy, which is not a bad thing. I liked reading about Aspen exploring that side of her with the guys.
But the ENDING!!! I knew it was going to be Duett beforehand but my god did that end leave me wanting more immediately.
It was a very enjoyable read, where I believed some emotional depth could’ve made it even more spectacular. I can’t wait to read more about them in the second book!
Ooooooh, this book is so freaking good!!!! The spice is high & the plot is *chefs 💋. I love Joan’s writing style & how seamlessly the story unfolds throughout.
10 years following the outbreak, wiping out billions & destroying any form of governing body, we find Aspen. She is guarded due to past events & survives alone, until she saves Bryn. A friendship develops just as they are caught in a trap. Turns out Aspen is pretty handy with a gun even hanging upside down! Enter the BloodHawks. 5 ex-military guys that have been living in an off grid base with no sight of a woman in all… that… time… 😉
𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘅. 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲. 𝗠𝗮𝘅. 𝗥𝘆𝗸𝗲𝗿. 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻.
The plot line is intense with action, intrigue & emotion. As things unfold, I was hooked! I love the multi POV chapters, how the past is gradually revealed & the depth of the relationships that develop (there’s a bit of everything: MF, MM, & MFM 🥵).
HIGHLY recommend this book!! I’m desperately & impatiently waiting for book 2 after that fabulous cliffhanger!!!
This book is unbelievable exciting. Leave the fact that’s 60% -80% fucking, the excuse? that they haven’t been around decent people for almost a decade. Buuuuuut the post-apocalyptic era is FINE, the mystery is NICE, the dynamic between the men is amazing.
Don’t get me wrong, this ain’t a roman empire typa book, like I won’t be swooning over the next book and memorizing character names … no but it 3.5 - 4.2 good.
The mild unexpected twists? we saw that coming, the hints here and there were dropped, the unexpected twists??? Oh man oh man!!
but what frustrates me was they suspected stuff, noticeably stuff, still army boys well trained men, cut those suss stuff off by jumping on each others bones, so they were literally blinded by pussy 😂.
Btw I didn’t feel aaaaanything about emotionally attachment towards any of them maybe a little with Max and Ryk ( which I Loved loved loved Rykers’ character, how sweet and nice he was, although we didn’t get to see a lot of him .. shame, he comes nearly at the end especially with our FMC) anyways so yes it was ALL physical, didn’t feel any type of attraction in between, I hope in the next book ( if there will be) we’ll be touching base with all 4 men and her … forbidden heaven in fiction 😇✨✨
I loved the ending!! I was like hwat??? How!! Gurl what! I can’t wait for the next one!!
Gritty post apocalyptic world following a deadly virus ? Yes please ! The main MMC’s are a band of hot soldiers who encounter two absolutely vivacious FMC’s!
When the FMC’s find themselves brought into the bloodhawks sparks fly between them and the MMC’s. slow burn is definitely at play in the first half of the book with an intriguing look into the world of submissive and dominants.
While the book is heavy on spice there are a lot of deep connections made between the characters and the protective nature of the MMC’s is EVERYTHING!
The author handled sensitive topics with grace when brought up and showed what a true strong FMC is with Aspen. I loved her development personality wise as well as her connections to the MMC’s especially Knox. I have a soft spot for a grumpy overbearing MMC 😏
I ARC read this book and was asked to give an honest review and I can honestly say I am Impatiently waiting for the second half of this duet! Addd to your TBR immediately ! CHECK TRIGGERS BEFORE READING 🥰
This is my first ARC ever! I was very excited, I love a reverse harem where they have boyfriends too and this did NOT disappointed! The MM scenes were so good and hot, and I love their relationship so much they should get a book of their own! As for the two FMCs, Aspen is amazing! Strong and with amazing survival instincts. Her banter with Knox is priceless! Bryn is different, more quiet, more in the shadows and I loved to see how her character grew. Knox is the leader and I love him, my man is hot AF! Dante, Max and Ryker are all such good boys and the scene where Dante gets on he's knees so Aspen isn't afraid of him 🔥🥵 Overall this is my read of the year I have to say and I can't believe it's Joan's second book!
This is my real opinion and the author didn't requested any reviews or anything for their ARCs.
Can't wait for the second one! Also the cover is to die for!
This book had me hooked!!!! It’s a dark dystopian/post apocalyptic book Reverse harem , why choose, bdsm , found family This book follows the story of Aspen who is one badass FMC (book is set 10 years after the world was pretty much destroyed by a virus) She has been through it!! And has been alone for years surviving in the woods/forests until she saves bryn from hunters They end up running into the mmc’s (there’s five of them 😜) I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I’ll just say that there’s twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat!! The spice was perfect!!! The story was incredible Please check your triggers This book ends on a massive cliffhanger Can’t wait for book two
This was wild, untamed perfection. plot, characters, spice. A total triple threat.
The MMCs, my god. I can't describe them in a way that will do them justice. These men are deadly sins, and I have ZERO intent to repent, confess, or seek retribution. In fact, just take me down now.
The FMC; this girl is MY GIRL. Strong, sassy, confident, capable. I found myself screeching so many times. Can we get more FMCs like this, please? I'm HERE for it.
A warning for all of you, because every dark romance reader on earth needs to get in on this, this cliffhanger is a doozie. I am DESTROYED. I'm losing my mind and it will stay lost until I can get into Book two.
20/10. Take my filthy word for it, you want these guys living in your mind rent free 😘
Let me start this off by saying I need book two like yesterday!!
This book is full of spice and oh how it has me wondering about some things. There is BDSM related content which was written wonderfully.
Joan Morven can write in a way that you can fully picture what is going on. I loved the development in the characters as individuals and as a found family. I was silently screaming at the cliffhanger of an ending (I finished reading as my husband slept)
I will wrap this up by saying there's a perfect balance of story and spice in this. ** check your triggers before you read**
Post apocalyptic isn't normally my jam - but give me a good reverse harem with some of the guys having their own relationships and I signed up for this ARC so fast! I LOVED Aspen as one of the FMC - when she saved the other FMC Bryn I had some thoughts on how I wanted that to go (no spoilers here) and while I was disappointed - she quickly became on of my least favorite characters in the book. The MMC's - swoon! Give me a Dante ALL DAY! The main group of MMC's served in the miliary together and I loved their various relationships, banter and back stories. This is the first book of a duet - so there's a cliffy there at the end. Can't wait to get book two in my hands!
This book is set in post-apocalyptic wilderness, 10 years after the plague. Women were tortured and r@ped, hunters hunted, trust is almost nonexistent. Until Aspen meets Bryn and later falls into a trap that belongs to a small group of soldiers.
“Not all men are Cash” Bryn tells Aspen, and Knox, Dante, Max, and Ryker prove that to be true!
Joan’s writing style is phenomenal, 🌶️ is deliciously descriptive! And the plot twist…..can we have book 2 now? lol
If you like bruiting, tall, dominant, tattooed (all but one), men with pierced 🍆…..and a why choose? Dive into this book! You will not be disappointed!!!
This was a good book, but it's another cliffhanger ending. I really hate cliffhangers. I knew something was up, but the twists that happen you don't exactly see coming. As you follow Ethan, Knox, Dante, Max, Ryker, Aspen and Bryn you learn a little more about how they work and what their background is but none of it hints at what will happen between them or how they deal with each other in this new life after the plague. I hope book two is as good as book one. This book left me hanging in the edge of my seat.
I adore any type of post-apocalyptic read, and this one was no exception. Add in the spice, and it became a 5-star read!
There are many POV's which I love! I love being able to see the story from different perspectives. There was MM romance as well as MFM spicy scenes. *swoon*
Aspen was a great FMC, she was strong-willed and didn't take crap from anyone. I enjoyed watching her progression throughout the book from trusting no one to finally being able to relax!
The book ends on a doozy of a cliffhanger, and I am waiting with bated breath for the next in this series!
I’m SCREAMING! At 4.5 stars this is one you don’t want to miss! I was hooked from the first page. I read this in less than 12 hours and I slept for 8 of them! I didn’t want to put it down. It flows so well, I love the multi POV . I love 4/5 guys lol The FMC is just an overall boss queen. She knows how to wrangle these guys and these GUYS are military sex on a stick!
The cliffhanger ending is torture, honestly! The dystopian world makes for a tense action packed read.
This is a dystopian/post-apocalypse why choose story. The storyline was so good, instantly hooked.
Aspen is a badass FMC, she is a survivor, doesn't need a man. But, she finds herself with several, well 4 to be exact. 4 ex-military turned mercenaries. AND there's some MM action which I love, especially in a why choose.
The ending left me gasping, jaw agape. I need book 2 NOW.
My first ever post apocalyptic romance read ever and omg I'm hooked 😍 I have never come across any other book like this it is so unique! I havnt stopped thinking about it since I first picked it up! The plot 🔥 the characters 🔥 the spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ one of the best reverse harems I have ever read (and between me and you that's a lot 💀😂) I highly recommend this book to absolutely everyone.
This is my first Joan Morven read and I was so hooked from start to finish. I'm not normally a fan of post apocalyptic style books but this one was different on every level. The mfc was intriguing and the 5 mmcs that play through the book were all unique and intriguing aswell. I loved that it covered so many kinks aswell. If you love RH with MM action aswell as mfm you'll love the spice in this book. And that ending! I didn't see that coming! I need book 2 asap!
Book 1 of the duet. A post-apocalyptic dark romance like nothing I've read before (in a good way)! Aspen the FMC is a strong female character that learns a lot about herself when she meets the Bloodhawks. Many POVs in this story with the five men the FMC interacts with. Bryn annoyed me, not gonna lie. The spice was SPICIN! If that's a word. BDSM. A bit of MM romance thrown in. Left with a shocker of a cliff hanger!
Warning ⚠️ you will be left on a cliffhanger that may run circles in your head for days!! This book is fabulous, set after an apocalyptic plague that has decimated the population people are thrown into survival mode. Aspen our fmc in a rh filled with so much heat I think it singed my kindle. I am now completely invested in these characters with the banter which I love, twists and tension has left me out in the cold on a cliffhanger to wait for the next half of this duet.
