What would you give to save the person you love?

Draco Malfoy has lived a charmed life, growing up in the manor with everything he could want at his fingertips - a perfect, pampered prince.

As a teenager, he comes to Hogwarts and looks down on everyone he meets. He is cruel, vicious - heartless.

As an adult, he is merciless- a cold blooded killer.
Ruthless, inhumane, feared by those around him.

But when Draco is found dead after hanging himself from the rafters of a room in the Hog’s Head, with only a bag full of memory vials and his diaries left beside him - Hermione discovers more about Draco and who he really was.

That all he ever wanted to do was make people proud.

As she searches his memories, she slowly realises that he was never the person that he showed to the world.
He suffered so much in his short life.

Draco’s memories tell a story of true, unending love and sacrifice and as she watches, Hermione needs to decide what she is willing to do to give Draco another chance at the life he truly deserves.

’I promise, I will make you proud.’

This. 👀👀👀

This book was very near Manacled in my mind. There was so much trauma (Draco, sweet boy 😭) and pain and longing and determination to change the way things turned out. I never once was bored while reading. There was never a dull moment. I absolutely loved Draco in this fanfic. He was so incredibly vulnerable and broken and sweet and selfless. This was a HARD HEA But man was it worth it 😭 I can’t believe more people arent talking about this fanfic. Blows my mind!

Side note: noooot a fan of the Harry/Ron relationship. Seemed *very* out of character for them. Very strange 🤣

Draco still couldn’t believe this was happening. He had finally gotten the girl. It only took nearly dying once or twice. It was worth it. He thought. He’d die a thousand times if it meant he got to do this with her. He felt his lips spread into a wide grin. He was so happy.

Draco was going to do some good for the world. He was going to make them all proud.

I was so afraid to read this fic. Because how could i survive a fic where Draco's dead from page 1 ? I knew that it would be my undoing.

A lot of people told me that it was HEA, and that convinced me somehow.
But that's not the major factor. What is, it's the writing of the author. Because yeah, it's incredibly amazing.

It was so poignant, touching, hurtful, deep and beautiful.

The first part of the fic was so hard to read as it's mainly about Draco's childhood and the abuse he faced. It was so well written that i was physically in pain.

He could never imagine what the pillow might say back though, if it was his mama. He didn’t have the context for that. So his pillow always remained silent in that game too. Just like real mama.

He was just a boy ?? A little child that wanted to be loved and wanted to make his father proud. And even when he was so young he knew that he was utterly alone. And THAT was destroying.

He felt like he was being brave. Maybe he was getting stronger. As he drifted off to sleep he thought… I’ll be eight soon.

Making everyone proud of him, that's the motto of Draco. His conduct line imposed by the abuse his father inflige him. And i was so hurt to see that boy, then that man that still wanted to make everyone proud. He lost hiself in the process, he lost the life he should have had.

And oh god, i hated Lucius. And the word "hate" is too poor to describe what i felt towards him.

I'm just so sad that they had to live trough all of this. That draco had to suffer at some point in every of his life.

At some point, even if it was hurtful, i toight that it was manageable, i didn't understand why some people told me that ut destroyed them. But now i understand.
I was naive to think that i wouldnt cry, that i wouldnt be destroyed. Because i am. In the most beautiful way.

This is one of the most beautiful fic i've reas
ReadAnd i'm so happy that they got their happy ending. Still, my heart is so heavy, and i'm still so heartbroken for Draco

Because he suffered again and again.

At a moment he was finally happy, he deserved it after all he went trough, and he had to LOSE it all ?? To end his life??

It was something you did every day, putting on socks, even, apparently on the day you killed yourself.

He became a monster to the world when he was only protecting her ?????
He was a boy, then he just was a man that needed to be loved back, and even that he couldn't fully have.
And you understand that he did was he had to do.

Draco Malfoy had been a monster, yes, but so had his father. Watching Draco’s suffering, she realised that he hadn’t become one through choice, he was Frankenstein’s monster all along

It's been a few minutes now that i finished this fic and Im still crying like a baby.
There is so much lines from this fic that was opening wounds, putting salt on them. They were so meaningful, so deep. And i felt in love with that. I felt in love with that but i was hurting at the same time because of it.

When you reach the part after the flashback — first of Draco’s childhood, then of his relationship with Hermione — and you start linking everything together? That was pure torture. That was the moment I started crying again. And again.

His arms, the cufflink, the dreams… everything was painful. But beautifully painful.

The ending was the final nail in the coffin. Yes, it’s a happy ending, but oh god, how heartbreaking it still is.

Draco's job was healing injured children.

It's so meaningful and it makes me so sad and happy for him. But in the end, it was everything Draco needed, everything we needed.

‘He’s lit up like a fucking Christmas tree,’ he said, the anger back again.

I’ve become a fucking Death Eater myself, just to keep her safe.’

‘Granger, is this real?’ He asked, his voice low, hesitant. ‘I don’t think I’ll survive it, if it’s not.’ He brought a hand to his face, to rub at his eyes. ‘You don’t know, how long-‘

‘Granger, is this real?’ He looked at her, and there was fear in his eyes. ‘Because I don’t think I’ll survive it if it's not.’

Because he didn’t want to ever look into another set of eyes. He didn’t want anyone else to ever touch him. It was only ever going to be Hermione for him. Draco had known it since he was eleven years old.

Granger spoke first. ‘So Theo, you’re one of Draco’s oldest friends, I gather?’ ‘Absolutely not.’ Theo replied. ‘He pays me to be here, like an oversized house elf. I cannot stand him,’

‘Is this real, Granger?’ He asked, his voice quiet, cracking slightly on his words, he sounded almost desperate. ‘Please, please tell me this time it’s real? That we all survived it.’ She smiled. ‘It’s real Draco. We did,’

The best work yet in the Dramionie fanfic Universe. This work had changed how I view the entire HP universe and Draco’s backstory. Quite possible that’s delusional of me? However, this work had changed how I understand unconditional love. The author talking about the Butterfly Effect was brilliant and how one small action, one act of kindness, and one moment of human connection can change the trajectory of an entire life… wow. Bravo!

This was a devastating read in ALL the ways you want a Dramione to destroy you! It had the pining. It had the obsession. It had the worshipping. I'm a millennial so to Butterfly Effect movie plot line was perfect. The story/plot was intriguing and kept me engaged the whole way through. It got a bit muddled towards the end but didn't distract. I appreciate that this WIP wasn't just a copy/paste each chapter. It felt cohesive and drawn together BEFORE writing each chapter. Even the HEA spoiler alert was not a spoiler! I will never listen to "My Immortal" in the same way now. And the non-Ron bashing was a refreshing change!

annotations:
-Draco didn't have the social skills to overcome conflict.
The only way he had ever shown was with fists, anger and with pain.

-Obviously, the only thing he could do in response to the feelings he had for Granger was to make sure he made her life hell.
That's what love was after all.

-'Granger, is this real?' He asked, his voice low, hesitant.
'I don't think I'll survive it, if it's not.'

-He didn't say anything, and she remembered that despite what he showed her, he was still her Draco underneath. Of course he'd listen.

-'I know you.'

-He saw a puff of a curl catch on the wind, and initially, he wondered if he'd finally lost the plot and started imagining Granger during the day instead of just when he was alone at night.

-Draco wanted to rip his arm away. he wanted to summon his broom and fly into a wall, to feed himself to an Acromantula, maybe wake up Voldemort so that he could Avada Kedavra him to another realm.
Because he didn't want to look into another set of eyes. He didn't want anyone else to ever touch him.
It was only ever going to be Hermione for him.
Draco had know it since he was eleven years old.

-'Absolutely not.' Theo replied. 'He pays me to be here, like an oversized house elf. I cannot stand him.'

-She wanted everything that Draco had to give. She wanted to let his fire consume her and she wanted to consume him too.

MY HEART.-He had tried, so hard. All he ever wanted to do was make people proud. He had tried to do his best.
But this life wasn't meant for him. No matter what he did, it was never enough.
He accepted that now. There was no more trying left in him. He was going to give into the darkness, get the job done and move on to the next life where maybe he could find happiness.

Jesus, why are Dramiones so good? Goddamn. I went in wanting fluff and instead chose chaos: drama, abuse, heartbreak… and an all-consuming, intense kind of love. This one is complicated (again). It deals with time travel, shifting timelines, and the question of whether people in each timeline remain there, or if they fade away. I know I say this every time, but Dramione writers are ridiculously creative. And Blaise + Ginny? Harry + Ron?? New territory for me lol.

At first, I didn’t fully get why Hermione was so fixated on someone she barely remembered, but when the explanation came, it made sense. Draco’s suffering in this felt very much of Manacled’s Draco, which is honestly emotional sabotage after just reading that. I cried at the end of Manacled, and here I was again, crying almost at the end.. specifically that chapter showing the days leading up to Draco’s death in the first timeline.

There were a few things that I kept waiting to be addressed that didn’t land for me (or maybe I missed them?): Blaise warning her she’s running out of time in the first timeline, Hermione never checking the last 2 memory vials, the impact of creating the soul stone, and the whole “witnesses seeing Hermione with Draco” before his death. It did make me wonder if Wheredoesshego shifted their approach to time travel midway through writing. But honestly? I didn’t even care that much in the end because I loved where it landed. It’s AO3. I’m here for the emotional damage, not perfection.

Maybe it could have been shorter? Not sure how but it took some TIME to read it all.

🚨Story🚨

Original/First timeline

The story follows canon pretty closely until 1997 (minus Harry being a Horcrux), but from Draco’s perspective. His upbringing is horrible. Lucius is violently abusive, shaping him into what he believes a future Death Eater should be, while Narcissa stays distant out of fear. Draco grows up associating love with pain and control.

When he gets to Hogwarts, he fails at forming connections with Potter, but Hermione immediately stands out to him. Her loyalty, intelligence, and bravery draw him in, until it becomes something close to obsession, but protective. So when Lucius orders him to get close to her for the Death Eaters, Draco does the opposite: he pushes her away to keep her safe, even while being groomed deeper into Voldemort’s world.

During Dumbledore’s death, Draco kills Death Eaters trying to take an unconscious Hermione. Harry overhears Draco confessing that everything he’s done is to protect her and helps him. Snape obliviates Harry. Later, Draco kills Nagini and Voldemort (or Lucius might have).

He’s put on trial, Hermione (training as an Auror) is assigned to his case, sees his memories, and understands everything. They fall in love quickly and intensely. But Lucius finds out, curses Hermione so she’ll die as long as she loves Draco, and she kills him before he can undo it.

Hermione is obliviated and forgets their relationship. Draco escapes Azkaban, spends 5 years killing Death Eaters, then dies by suicide, leaving behind memories and journals for her.

Hermione becomes obsessed with understanding him. She can’t open the journals, so she watches his memories, but they stop before their relationship. Still, she feels everything. That’s what pushes her to change the past. She creates a soul stone, gives part of herself, and enters the memories with a potion that allows her to change the past.

Second Timeline:
She goes back to the night of Dumbledore’s death and warns Draco. He tries to change things, but fails. He dies protecting her, and Harry dies too. Everything still collapses.

Third Timeline:
She goes further back,l. This time she convinces Draco to go to Dumbledore, but he doesn’t. Instead, Hermione tells Dumbledore herself.

This leads to a completely broken world: Lucius pulls Draco out of Hogwarts, obliviates him, and turns him into a weapon. Voldemort is already gone, but the world is worse: Ron is dead, Harry is on the run, the Order is destroyed. Hermione wakes up imprisoned, and Draco is violent, cold, and unrecognizable.

But he’s still drawn to her.

When he goes through her memories and understands everything, their love, every timeline, every version of them, he changes. He helps her instead of fighting her. Together, they fix one thing: they remove Lucius’ curse on Hermione. They decide to alter the first memory together

Final timeline:

They’re going away to Howgarts for the first time. Draco changes his approach completely. No arrogance, no cruelty, he actually connects with Hermione’s friends. That one moment changes EVERYTHING. Their friend groups merge, alliances shift, and the base of everything that went wrong is rewritten.

They also go to Dumbledore early and tell him everything, preventing Voldemort’s rise before it even begins.

When they return, they wake up in a new, peaceful timeline. Everyone is alive. Voldemort never happened. And even though this version of them didn’t live through the pain, they still have the journals, the proof that in every timeline, no matter how broken, they found each other and loved each other.

Oh… wow. This was a hard read, tbh.

I really enjoyed this different timelines, and how they all came together at the end. It was fun to have so many different versions of their love story, with different trials and circumstances trying to keep them apart—but they always found one another.

You know I love a powerful, possessive, darker Draco- and this was so good.

I actually don’t know how to write a review for Lucius and Narcissa? All I’ll say is that I makes me SICK to think that any parent could treat a child like this. Bringing harm to a child you’re meant to protect is unforgivable. Allowing others to do the same is sickening. It was hard to read.

I loved seeing timeline pieces come together.. like the dreams, witnesses, cuff link, all consuming yearning!!!

I want to give it 5 stars but there are some holes in the story I’d love to know more about… especially with Theo, Blaise, and pansy. They knew that Lucius has cursed them & narcissa helped Hermione forget Draco.

I would love a full fic on the 4th timeline, where they met on the train and were inseparable from the beginning.

I love that Hermione and Draco went into the final memory together, and that they knew they were stronger as a pair.

I couldn’t seem to put this down, which is always a good sign. Hard read, but very very well written and a fantastic story.

Also, Draco is daddy, always. Obviously.

This fic really wasn’t worth the hype for me. I could see what the author was trying to do, but the execution fell short. The constant timeline shifts were confusing and disrupted the flow of the story.
The writing overall felt superficial and generic, in some areas very unrealistic and convenient. I struggled to feel any real emotional connection to the characters. Hermione, in particular, came across as very weak for someone portrayed as a “competent” Auror—she made too many mistakes and didn’t do anything that made Draco’s admiration feel earned.
I also disliked how Draco basically fell in love with Hermione at first sight. He barely knew her, yet suddenly he’s completely devoted and ready to die for her, which felt rushed and unconvincing.
Overall, I’d skip this fic—it wasn’t worth the time for me.

I've read this a while ago and forgot to track it.

I loved this one... Maybe because it didn't destroy me as much as Manacled did (which I read right before this one).
I loved the characters journey and the arc why Draco is dead in the beginning.

*squints* I feel like I was totally on board with this until the 40% mark and then it started to feel a bit… unrealistic and convenient. And just out of character.

A must read for Dramione fans. It’s a 4.5/5 star for Dramione books, but it got a tiny bit complicated storyline wise towards the end. I really loved it. All 1,000 pages. lol!

‘Just know that I have loved you in every lifetime’ 😭

I love this Draco so much! It is more of a 4.9 star for me because I just don’t believe that Hermione would do all of this without even attempting to read the journals first.

Why did it take me this long to read this fic?!!
Butterfly effect Dramione.
Literally “everything is romantic” on repeat
I’m obsessed with this Draco. The silent protector. Sad boy yearning.
“Is this real because i don’t think i will survive if it’s not” same Draco same.

Draco is found hanging.suicide. And with only viles of memories in his bag. Hermione is tasked at watching these memories.
Draco seemed to have turned into a rouge killer after Voldemorts defeat

Poor baby Draco as constantly abused by his father. Constantly trying and telling himself he will make him proud.

Harry and Ron are a couple. Blaise and Ginny. Theo and Pansy. Hermione feels alone. that night she has a dream about Draco. Being happy that he’s there. Wanting him. Missing him but then he starts bleeding and died. She wakes up and can’t believe she’s had another dream about him.
We’re her and draco a secret?!

When Draco first started Hogwarts he felt this thing for granger. And because he didn’t know how to show love. Or his love from his parents were cruel he was cruel to Hermione.

While in the morgue going through Draco’s injuries suddenly Hermione saw him alive. Open his eyes. But it must have been a vision because then she started to have a seizure and fall to the floor.

As Hermione watches more memories she finds Out that Lucius wanted Draco to befriend Hermione so they could use her. Draco did everything he could at just 13 to protect Hermione. Without her even knowing. All while having feelings for her. I

Well there was a squib that was willing to show memories she had seeing malfoy and Hermione at the pub together. Kissing. Crying. Etc. Hermione thinks that’s crazy she never did that never saw malfoy since school. But when the squib is due to come in and show her memories she is found dead.

It finally Comes down to the memory of when dumbledoor is killed. And Draco runs to Hermione and saves her. And gives her to potter. And Harry never told her that it was Draco who had always been helping her and saved her. Harry had no recollection of this happening.

Harry is taking her off the case but before he leads her out Hermione takes the last two memory jars

Hermione confronts Snape. And he confirms that malfoy cares and even loved her. And she’s upset and thinks she could have even loved him too. She asks for a way to change the past and get malfoy to have a second chance.

The night Draco killed Voldemort it was because he looked into his mind and saw that he loved Hermione. After a failed mission to get her. And when he was going to kill him he ended up killing Nagini and the snake was the final horcrux.
But when Lucius unexpected helped Draco put a killing curse of Voldemort. Draco then decided to not kill his father even though everyone thinks he did and let him and his mom escape to France.

Hermione gets help from a dark magic witch. In exchange for some of her essence she makes her the potion to go into the past in one of Draco’s pensives. She goes back to 1997 when Draco is going to have to kill Dumbledore but he goes into hermiones room and sits at the end of her bed while she sleeps. Hermione chooses that moment to go in and show him everything. Kiss him. Tell him that she might even love him too and she wants to help him.
“She was his and he was hers. and she would do whatever it took to be with him”
She makes a plan with him on how to stop dunbledore from dying but it goes terribly wrong. Ending in Draco’s death and Harry’s in the astronomy tower. She grabs another memory from her bag and goes further into the future to try and fix it. Back to 2014 where they were 13. She tried to get Draco to tell dumbledor about the abuse from his father. Draco doesn’t show up but Hermione starts to tell dumbledor before she fades away and brought back to 2006 present but it’s completely different. She’s shameless dirtying a cell in Azkaban. With Ginny. She is told that Lucius killed dumbledor when he was accused of abusing Draco. Pulling Draco from Hogwarts homeschooling him and obliviating his memories. So he doesn’t remember helping Hermione. Lucius ends up killing Voldemort and now he in the dark lord. Ginny tells Hermione about them stealing wizard’s essence like she did to get the potion.
Hopeless Hermione thinks Draco never even remembers caring for her but when she is forced to shower and almost sexual assaulted by a guard she is saved by Draco.
He knows her. He feels like he does even though he can’t remember why.
She helps him remember. He looks through her mind. But it’s causes a seizure and he brings her back to his room in the manor. He saves her by putting a necklace on her. It’s the essence of a wizard. She’s not sure who. And Draco returns finally remembers everything. And they are finally together again. He has saved her backpack with all the memories and journals. Finally they open the locks to the journal and it’s their love story. That he killed himself to give her a chance to live and break this curse that his father put on them. The journals were written in her handwriting. But the last bit was Draco. Hermione realized she didn’t get through all the memories to the end to see it. She couldn’t remember loving him. And she didn’t see the memories though before she tried to change the past.
Now Hermione is remembering all the memories after Draco killed Voldemort. How his parents and him gave their statement. Hermione sat in on Draco’s interview and that’s when the tension began. He ended up telling her how sorry he was for everything he done to her in school. She also knew that he had purposely botched the mission to save her.
When Hermione was given permission to view his memories he knew she was finally going to see his feelings for her. He had left the office without seeing her after and was upset. He went to leave the manor that night but when he opened the door Hermione was standing there crying.
Draco invited her in for dinner. And he said FUCK IT. kissing her. Them spending the night on the couch next to the fire only for Theo to walk in on them. He’s know how badly Draco has loved her. But something happens during breakfast. Draco begins to have a panic attack and when it clears he’s panicked and basically sends Hermione out. Hermione is confused because she thought they were more than just one night. Later that day Hermione woke up to pebbles being tossed at her window. It was malfoy. And when she let him in he was on her instantly. And they only made it to the staircase before they were having sex.
They are definitely a couple. Keeping it secret except Theo and pansy know. They become their own little family.
That’s when aurora come to hermiones house to tell her they’ve been tracking malfoy and he’s been close to her a lot and thinks he might hurt her. They put wards up on her house. They also visit Draco to tell him to stay away from hermione and that she’s afraid of him. Later that night Hermione goes to the manor to find Draco destroying it. She doesn’t insert why he’s so upset then he tells her that the aurora told him she wanted him to stay away from her and she was afraid of him. She finally tells him she loves him.
And hey spend Christmas together with pansy and Theo at the manor. He gave her a trident necklace that belonged in o aunt andromeda and if Hermione is wearing it she would be able to access the malfoy library.
Draco has been secretly leaving at night to kill each death eater and member who wanted Hermione for her stone. Her essence. Snape was is informant he met at the bar.
Lucius came back to the manor. Unexpectedly and burst in on Draco and Hermione. He found out about them and tried to kill Draco. Hermione took Draco’s wanna and cast killing curses. Before Lucius died he put a spell on Draco. He couldn’t get near Hermione or she would died. His blood was poison to her causing her to bleed profusely through her nose. Narcissa hid Hermione and got her out safely and Draco took the fall for killing his father.
Draco was arrested and when his mother visited she told him Hermione lost a lot of blood and had a big seizure. She was confused. So she erased all of her memories of Draco. It was for the best. For Draco to let her live her life now without suffering like Draco will.
At his trial Draco escaped. And hid himself in the dungeon of malfoy manor.
He now went on a killing spree of all of his father’s men. When he was done be basically said by to Theo and pansy and finished hermiones journals about how their story ended. And how much he loved her. And ended his life.
Hermione now knows the whole story and why she is even now in this life still having headaches and having to wear the necklace. The curse still is effective because it wasn’t proximity that made her sick. It was their love for each other.
When Lucius came home Draco confronted him. Told him he remembers all the beatings. And before Lucius died he made his say the reversal for the curse.
They decided to use the last drop to go back in time in his memories together. To the day they first met. Their first day of Hogwarts. On the train. And then when she woke up back to 2006 she was in a.mn unfamiliar room alone but the pictures on the wall were all happy memories of Hogwarts. Draco being in them. And then he was there. He was a doctor, pediatrician. They did it. They fixed their lives. They loved together and were so happy. They lived in a world without Voldemort ever coming back.
Years later they had a son Theodore Servius Malfoy. And they lived HEA
