Justin is a great writer. Looking forward to the second book. Rick's illustrations are great and I love all the extra details in them. Very fun book and highly recommend to any kids or families. Very good family-friendly content. No crude words or potty humor, which is nice. It didn't feel dumbed down or stupid, which I appreciated. Definitely will check out the next one (which comes out in April).
April 24th, 2025: I'm so excited for this book. Can't wait for it. This will make a great Christmas present. December 25th, 2025: I just started reading this book. I'm about halfway through already. I thought it was a graphic novel but apparently, it's just a chapter book with lots of pictures (similar to the Captain Underpants series). Liking it so far! :)
Finished it on December 29th. My second-to-last book of the year!
I’ve been watching JSTU’s YouTube channel for a few years so it’s been fun supporting Justin on this. The book was so cute and fun, wish I could read it as a young kid lol. I listened to a chapter or two on audio to see - and it’s so immersive! Can’t wait to read the other volumes as they come out
Started reading this book when I first got it, at first I thought it was a bit rushed, but near the end it got a lot better. Justin wrote it really well and Rick illustrated it amazingly, excited for a sequel. 4.25 stars. To be honest, I put this book somewhere and forgot about it and read two other books, then I came back to it
Upon notice that they must immediately evacuate their home planet, the Blobs are sent in pods to their new home, along the way this ragtag crew crash lands on a strange planet and stirs up more trouble than they bargained for.
Blob Force wannabe Cadetski leads his unlikely crew through unknown dangers and learns a lesson about telling the truth. Filled with fitting cartoon style illustrations, this book is written for confident young readers. It has a larger easy to read font, but a creative and inventive vocabulary that could trip up children new to chapter books. Great for kids who have graduated from beginner chapter books and are looking for something between that and the next step.
Clean fun humor, and a hilarious, unlikely team of characters. Together they learn to work together, facing fears and finding 1friendship. One of my favorite characters is Chubs and his adorable and helpful plant robot.
A fast-paced adventure, full of unexpected twists and kid-friendly humor. Imaginative clean fun, I'm excited to see where the series goes!
The Blobs Vol. One reads like a fun, lively futuristic story about Blobs escaping their planet (via an escape pod) before a meteor crashes into it destroying everything. (Akin to a story of humans trying to escape Earth before annihilation by a planetary strike.) The story line is easy going and yet it captures the essence of dread at having to leave all behind.
The various Blobs and other creatures on the planet that are in the escape pod become friends and share experiences and the ups and downs of "life."
The illustrations are pure fun and delight; and kids 8 to 12 will find the story and illustrations perfect for them. The chapters and good length. The text is full page with small illustrations sprinkled throughout plus some full page drawings. The font is large and easy-to-read. I love that the vocabulary is well done with good word use plus some fun words for expressiveness.
Definitely clean reading showing developing friendships and challenging situations.
I received a complimentary copy from David C. Cook for this review. Opinions are mine alone.
The Blobs: Vol One: Crash Land! is a fun filled graphic novel by Justin Stuart. I thought this was a cute story to read with valuable lessons to learn for young readers. It was a delightful and entertaining tale to read.
The Blobs: Vol One: Crash Land! is illustrated by the talented artist, Rick Douglas. The pictures were fun to look at while following th story.
I am going to give The Blobs: Vol One: Crash Land! five stars. I highly recommend it for readers between the ages of eight and twelve years of age. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, The Blobs: Vol Two: Attack of the Glitches.
I received a hard cover copy of Justin Stuart's The Blobs: Vol One: Crash Land! from David C. Cook, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
