Grim Reaper Academy #2

Slaying Year Two Lib/E

Rate this book
Two hotter-than-hell boyfriends to juggle, one merciless archangel who wants me dead, and then there’s Francis. I still don’t know what his deal is, and after that fateful night in the caves beneath the Academy, I’m not sure I want to know.

Everything around me is changing, but I’m the same. I’m still the only human. No powers, no special skills to speak of. Just a prophecy that says a human will one day retire the most powerful Grim Reaper alive, but I doubt I’m the savior the supernatural world has been waiting for. If I am, the implications are too horrible. Because this powerful being they’re afraid of… is my real father.

***Author's Note: This is book 2 in the Grim Reaper Academy series, intended for mature audiences. Please be advised that it may contain situations that are triggering to some, profanity (way more than in my previous books!), and a lot of steam.

Slaying Year Two was somewhat very interesting and a much needed book for Mila's developpement. Gone the amazing heroine I fell in love with in the first book, gone the strong, driven, grateful and determined character.

In Slaying Year Two, Mila is put in the spotlight and in shoes she dreamed of wearing a lifetime ago. The time when she had nothing, not even love for herself, the time when she was poor, alone, scared and did not know what it was to have a meaning.

With the revelation of her lineage made public to the whole school, Mila becomes overnight the rising star of Grim Reaper Academy, the popular girl, the one everybody wants to be friend with and follows around. She does not want the attention but is put into the spotlight nonetheless and while she might attend a school for immortal, everybody there never really matured past their teenager years and the drama goes to her head.

Mila makes mistakes, more than once. Mistakes the Mila 1.0 would have never made but that Mila 2.0 cannot avoid. Mila 2.0 is self centered, Mila 2.0 can act like a bully to a certain extent, Mila 2.0 is too focused on her own little world to pay attention to her surrounding.

Mila 2.0 is not formidable, barely even likeable, but Mila 2.0 will lead to Mila 3.0. And Mila 3.0? She's coming and she will makes things right.

It was a bit complicated to really appreciate and enjoy the read with such a character development, although I really liked it. On the one hand, I could not stand her but on the other one, I couldn't help to be sympathetic towards her. Mila 2.0 was not by a long shot amazing but she was manipulated into a role she never asked for. It just wasn't her. And the book ended on a fantastic note, I cannot wait to read the next one!

I received an ARC via Booksprout.

I really liked the book and how creative it is. I again thought of Harry Potter with how pixies are enslaved like house elves. I also couldn't help but find a connection between Valentine Morgenstern from the City books by Cassandra Clare and Valentine Morningstar of this book. I really enjoyed the fieldtrips to Heaven and Hell, again I must commend the author for her creativity here. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, this one ended on a slight cliffhanger.

Oh boy ...
Mila I fought for you girl ... you made some pretty big boo boos and you were a complete bench at times. You were OK ish up to about 85% when you just .. let it get to your head. ... oh honey.

Mila is NOT the victim in this book, she becomes EVERYTHING she wanted= entitled, privileged, wanted, worshipped. What she does to

And as it turns out it’s not all it’s cracked up to be and with fake and fortune come the nasty personality deficits. And Mila F*cks up .... which I kind of love she really makes a knob of her self and is cruel , selfish, angry.. and I like that she flawed . I like that she isn’t a special perfect snow flake and that she has to apologise when she makes mistakes and she honestly then tries to change.
I do think

I did get really frustrated with the harem, honestly I couldn’t give two hoots about GC and Paz..: I wanted more plot more looking into how to stop morning star more prophecy talk.. the boys .. are just that. Boys there sex scenes and sex talk bored me and made me cringe as much as it did the pixie..

I am excited about the next book and I have it 5 stars because even though the character is flawed it’s what made her more real, it’s what made me like her more.. I vacillated in this book and in the RHR cake house thread *sorry ladies I am a serial poster * but I stick with my original statement - she starts low in book 1.. then gets a taste of the other side with book 2 ..

#1. Surviving Year One ★★★

A human, an archangel, a mage, and a… Francis walked into a bar. Because I still had no fucking clue what Francis was.
@85% [Chapter 19]

The first one was ok.

This one was also ok.

And therein lies the problem.

For the first time, being human made me feel like I had something they didn’t have – the capacity to change, adapt, and face the unknown with the least amount of resistance.
@59% [Chapter 12]

Things changed but nothing did at the same time. Felt like we made no progress even though we learned stuff. No forwards motion.. *sigh*

This book lost me a little. I understand that character development was needed. But it was a little boring. It didn't have the threat of death and intrigue that the first one had. For a book with creatures who are free willing with sex, this book only had two sex scenes. They were pretty vanilla, for a threeway.

With the book ending in a threat, I hope there is action in book 3.

While still human, life has dramatically changed for Mila now that the truth of who her father is, is out in the world. She goes from the bullied nobody to the most popular girl in school, it’s pretty weird. Honestly I still find this series kind of mediocre, I mean it’s ok but for me it lacks depth. The end also has me a bit shocked because Mila acted completely out of character when she goes off on Morningstar. I mean it kinda came out of nowhere and he’s really the last person she needs to make enemies of. But never said she was a smart one, guess the aftermath remains to be seen 🫣

Meh...bored with this and bored with the MC. Once again, Mia is at GR academy and the cat Is out of the bag about her baddy daddy. Mia goes all the way with her guys and is instantly (unrealistically) a stag in the sack. She’s also curious about Butt stuff! Ohhhh the suspense!

The big issues...

—Her voice came off as very juvenile (yes she’s 19 but I wish she had more grit and humor). The author used! Too! Many! Exclamation points!
—big info dumps that covered weeks in a paragraph and read like a run on sentence or a teenager trying to tell you a story in one big breath.
—you didn’t get to know the guys at all.
—is there a plot here?

What started as a bit of mindless fun has turned into a mindlessly boring read. Mia is a flat character and her Baddy Daddy is also not interesting enough for me to care about his supposed maniacal intentions. The Series bore too much resemblance to Harry Potter.

There! I said it!

Underground Vaults of daddy-cash! A subservient/slave race committed to serve you (Pour one out for my boy, Dobby), magical letters and fat, mean step-dads. I’m surprised the copyright po-po aren’t knocking down this author’s door.

Needless to say, won’t be reading on, though I do wish we got some more Francis in this story. I’m a sucker for a shy-guy.

Book 2

Not a fan of book two. A lot of emphasis on the day to day school stuff surrounding popularity and her new name. Not impressed. Not as much story in this book with scenarios that you could tell the author tried making stand out but turned into anticlimactic with the female lead sounding whiner and whiner. Also her boyfriends acted really immature and I just wasn’t impressed with this character development. Try again.

Read other books from this author in the future: yes

In this book we meet Mila 2.0. She changes from the Version in book 1 to this one. She is not the sweet girl anymore. Here she is bossy and changes her character in many ways. But still this book was a good read.

I am looking forward to read the next book in this series.

This was better than the first one but there were several issues that were poorly addressed in my opinion. Loosing virginity was one of them. I just did not follow the heroine's logic and did not like the sudden jump to sexual liberation. There were other character inconsistencies but now I am completely hooked on the plot and cannot wait to read how things develop further.

65% DNF

I don’t know how to put it but for some reason this book is boring and tedious. I like mc who work for respect and deserve it, who don’t give up.

Mila is handed everything on a silver platter, her reputation gets better thanks to her boyfriends and then her dad. She doesn’t stop the bullying, they just stop.

Her harem drives me up a wall, they never back her up and when her dad shows up they don’t stand with her. They pressure her into spending time with him. They constantly argue about everything and it’s all one giant dick measuring contest.

Then for someone who is so ‘smart’ and constantly ‘studies’ she is still beyond ignorant of the world she ended up in.

In short she is weak and has no discernible back bone and I am tired of reading about it. The concept is interesting and I stuck with it so long because I wanted to know how it ends but the book is just not getting better.

Year 2 is a lot better as far as bullying goes for Mila. She's got 2 hot boyfriends and things are going well. Until her REAL Father comes into her life right in the middle of class! Now people wont leave her alone and only want to be her BFF because she's the daughter of Valentine Morningstar the oldest and most powerful Grim Reaper. Oh yeah and its her job to take him out. No pressure! I have to say I had to giggle at her Father because dude she knows your not on the up and up. Mila isnt stupid. One thing thats changed is Sariel. He's not her friend or anything but towards the end of the book you can tell he wants to be but she's not receptive to it. I dont blame her one bit because of the things he's done to her. She knows a secret about him which he told her and she's keeping it to herself until it comes time for reaping for real under the Mentor of Valentine Morningstar. Sariel has no choice to tell him what he's done and why he cant reap. Oops. Yeah...things dont go well. Mila feels bad for him and tries to help him but she can't and its out of her hands. Until the next book!

Book 2 audio book review
This continues where book 1 left off. Lots happening in the story . Many levels , lots of actions events happen that you will need to hear the story .
Mila finds out who her real father is. Mila has mixed emotions about what the dean told her. The events that will happen in the future . Mila goes back home to speak to her parents. After she does and goes back to the academy, she finds that’s she’s miss popular now. Only because of who her father is .
The one thing I don’t like as the popularity goes to Mila head is she starts to throw her weight around . She gets special privileges, she takes a trip to the 9 levels of heaven and the 9 levels of hell . Her arch enemy Soriel the Archangel all of a sudden saves fear from a Mag and starts to follow her around. Not sure I like what Mila has become

The plot of this series is fascinating. It has some pretty unique world building and incorporates mythology and biblical stories too.

For those of you who also dislike strong bullying or really dark romances,

Grim finally recognizes Mila.

Everything was going good for Mila. She finally knows where she stands in the academy. She's dating 2 guys and she's happy. What she didn't count on was her Father showing up. Now the whole school knows she's a Morningstar, he wants her to be with him and she hates her life again. She needs to learn her new place in the scheme of things. Learning from Morningstar is also going to be a challenge too. It all goes sideways when the year is over, the finals have been taken and it's time to really learn the job. This year has taken a turn you never would've imagined. As far as second years go, this one is a page turner.

Old parents new parent but it's all a nightmare

Lies and secrets Mila manages to say the wrong thing to the wrong person and almost dies. She takes a trip to heaven and well that other domain and finds that not everything is as it seems. And the biggest secret of all her real father and a prophecy is Mila want to save her friends and keep her boyfriends she will have to battle her father to keep them. All this while truly learning what it means to be a Reaper and the new it girl at Grim Reaper Academy.

This is my honest review and I read this book threw Kindle Unlimited.

Slaying Year Two: A Reverse Harem Bully Romance (Grim Reaper Academy Book 2)

OMG 😳 😱 Mila is back at Grim Reaper Academy for her 2nd year, then her real father shows up unexpectedly and everyone finds out who she is then all the students who bullied her want to become her new BFF in the Academy. There is so many things going on in this book, secrets revealed, steamy romance, boys being boys, even when they’re old lol 😂 This book is amazing and I definitely recommend this book!!!!
Can't wait to start reading book 3!!!!

I don't know what to say. I mean wow. The gauntlet has been thrown. This book is better than the first. It's really speeding up now. The first one was more a psychological thing. It worked on my psyche and made me wonder if i needed a shrink. This one is the same way but it's got action thrown in. Mila's life has been turned upside down and now she's trying to figure out what to do about it. Gotta say the reaper practice is the bomb!

Love the plot

I can't get enough of this plot. It's unique and has the perfect pace. This book brings more mystery and drama, but the latter never feels too much. Mila finally meets her father and it's clear that he has ulterior motives. When people find out about her heritage, they try to get in Mila's good graces and it's a funny contrast to the bullying in the first book. I love the banter between GC and Pazuzu, it really adds some very funny situations to this book.

Couldn’t finish. I tried to read it but the characters and the sex scenes don’t add up. All of the characters read young so when they had a “hot” sex scene, it felt inappropriate and uncomfortable to read. They’re supposed to be around 18 or 19 but the characters read like freshmen in high school. Wont be finishing the series. I made it to page 50 here and couldn’t continue.

*Read this book ages ago (decided to add all the books that I remember reading and established 2017 as the year to add all those reads).*

The quality, that wasn't that good for me to begin with, became even worse on this second book, so much so that I didn't continue to read the third book, abandoning it halfway through the reading.

I had high hopes.

This is not my cup of tea. I tried to really get into it. But I hated all of the main characters. I was not rooting for anyone. The story was all over the place. Nothing was making sense. Or coming to a resolution. I am still a bit confused.
