Victoria was incredibly frustrating, pathetic, really
I can't stand a hot, cold, hot, cold character!
Especially when they're holding the other main character responsible for shit that happened to them years ago.
I get it, Victoria was dealt a shitty hand in the love department, but to have that one, years old incident, dictate your ENTIRE life so much so that you literally sabotage your own happiness, is just stupid and selfish and immature!
Let me tell you, if the roles were reversed and Declan asked Victoria to keep their relationship a secret, they wouldn't have made it past the first morning after!
Declan spent the entire book proving his commitment and let her know, in no uncertain terms, that she was the one for him and that he found her to be sexy, desirable and worthy of love! ... Grief, eventually I was wondering if he was just a sucker for punishment.
We didn't get to enjoy them as a happy, loving couple at all, FFS she couldn't even see past her own bullshit when it came to his friends, his team mates, who he considered family!
What did she do when the shit hit the fan? ... She tucked tail and ran.
She hightailed it outta there so fast, leaving poor Declan, dazed and confused, in her dust.
Look! We got the grand gesture at the end there, it was just a grand gesture from the wrong person...
Victoria should have been the one taking a stand and proving that she found Declan and their relationship worthwhile, and ready to fight like hell for it! ...all she was worried about was her own selfish self. Fuck Declan and his heart!
Fuck man, Declan was one grand gesture after another in the book, Victoria couldn't even pull her head out of her ass, at the end when he proposed (after the grand finale of grand gestures), she hesitated and questioned it first.
WTF!
She did not endear herself to me at all. The epilogue could have been 100 pages long, I still don't think my opinion of her would change.
...then why 2 stars, you ask?
Declan, they're for Declan... Heaven knows he deserved something.

I love this series. Declan O’Rielly is one of the men on the Nighthawks hockey team. He is the jokester, trying to keep morale up. We get to see the other already paired off guys again, Luc, Emile, Calvin, etc., with their women- Nathalie, Sara, and Olivia. Dr. Angelo (Olivia) believes that if the guys train some in ballet- it will help with their work and will also help with recovering after an injury. The men are hyper skeptical about this until a few days in with Victoria Fletcher. I really identified with her as she is a plus sized woman who loves to dance especially ballet. I did ballet from 4-9 and a half. I loved it and did dancing on my own after that because the other girl in dance made fun of me because I developed (puberty) to the point of being where those who were in the more advanced classes were and they were five years plus older than the rest of us by the time I was 9 and a half. Seeing what I went thru and seeing it that Victoria had gone thru some things similar made me cry and also made me not feel as alone, just like the other women in the series did. She runs a dance studio where “every body is welcome and dance is about joy and expression…” That and a few things in the book made me cry, both in sadness and in joy. Shelby is Victoria’s bestie and is also a baker- it made me want to try her baked goods- lol. There is so much more than the facades that the hockey team shows in their games and interviews. The same for the women. Declan is amazing and I can’t wait to read about Callum, the quiet goalie. Learning about their families was fascinating and this series just really hits home. Things are sweet, romantic, hilarious, steamy and eye opening in this book. It was awesome.

Book four of the Curves on Ice series and slapshot secrets delivers body positivity, romance against the odds and a hockey player who just won't quit.
Megan delivers the steam and mild angst as we follow Declan and Victoria. Drafted in to help with the team's flexibility and injury reduction Victoria is there to teach some ballet techniques, only she's caught Declan eye and he is all in.
Private one on one lessons, lead to getting to know one another in this opposite attract romance. Victoria though doesn't want to fall for Declan, she's been in a similar situation before and has the emotional scars to prove it.
The only way she allows Declan in is by making him keep it secret, and while Declan accepts he is going full throttle to prove to Victoria that she belongs with him.
However a lapse in judgement from Declan throws their tentative relationship into a tailspin as negativity towards Victoria opens old wounds.
Can Declan pull it back and show not only to Victoria, but the world that her physical appearance doesn't define her worth, and he is in love with her no matter the stupidity of those outside of their relationship.
If you enjoy workplace romance, protective MMC, curvy FMC, hockey romance, interlinking characters, series read, instalove, pure love, no cheating, no other woman drama, dual pov writing, mild angst, and a HEA then give this a read.
On a personal note Slapshot secrets came at the right time for me. It's body positivity has given me a lift that I've needed personally for a while, and to read the amazing things Victoria is more can capable of doing and the love Declan has for her just gave me the pick me up I've craved. Body positivity is such an important thing and this book has just brought it to the forefront again. I love a romance with a curvy woman portrayed I soak them up, but the way Victoria sees her worth and feels out of place because of her size is me. I am Victoria and like her I deserve to be loved and be who I am regardless of the number on my clothes or on the scales. I shouldn't feel like an outsider because I'm not fitting in with the "norm", I'm pretty special and I need to accept that. So thank you Megan.

I absolutely loved this story!
"Slapshot Secrets" is the fourth book in the Curves on Ice series, and it truly doesn’t disappoint. It offers one of the best body positivity insta-love stories I have read. Victoria is part of a ballet company that celebrates body positivity and embraces dancers of all sizes. She teaches girls that it’s about the dance and not their size that counts.
Victoria is asked to teach a group of hockey players ballet moves to help improve their flexibility and reduce injuries. This opportunity catches the attention of Declan, who knows exactly what he wants: Victoria. As they have one-on-one lessons, they get to know each other better, and their chemistry is off the charts. However, Victoria is hesitant about dating Declan in the public eye; she anticipates the judgment she will face for dating a popular hockey player.
Declan doesn’t like the idea of hiding their relationship and is determined to prove that he is different from everyone else. He promises to be there for her no matter what. After a mishap during a game, Declan kisses Victoria in front of everyone, exposing their relationship to the world and bringing all of Victoria's fears to life. In response, Declan holds a press conference to confront the negative press, calling out the critics, including his fans, and vowing not to play until the comments stop. He shows he will do whatever it takes for the woman he loves.

This book gave me all the emotions! I absolutely LOVE Declan, he was funny, loyal and stood on business. He was obsessed with Victoria from the very beginning and he saw straight to her heart. His grand gestures were the absolute sweetest and I love how much he fought for her. Victoria had been through a lot and had so many walls up to protect herself. She constantly pushed and pulled Declan because she believed she needed to protect herself and her dance students. And he was there every time to pull her back in the sweetest of ways. The man was incredibly understanding, and just wanted her for life. I love the found family with the teammates and partners, they’re such a great group of people and support. I thought there might have been a bit too much push from Victoria, but it also made sense for the story. I wish we also got to see a bit more in regards to his family and if his dad ever accepted him. No cheating or OM/OW drama, small third act break up (kind of) with grand gesture, body positivity message, dual POV, HEA and 3 epilogues in the future. I can’t wait to read Callum and Briar’s book, they seem like they’re going to be the most awkwardly adorable couple!

They first meet when Declan’s team, the Nighthawks, hires Victoria to teach the players ballet in order to improve their flexibility and help prevent injuries. Right away Declan is drawn to her and requests one on one lessons. As they get to know each other, it’s clear that the attraction is mutual, but Victoria is reluctant to go any further.
I really enjoyed this story - especially Declan’s quick fall and subsequent adoration. He was completely preoccupied thinking of her all the time and it was so cute. I also appreciated how Victoria’s body issues were handled. Even when Declan couldn’t get enough it didn’t eliminate her concerns about her body and I felt like that was very realistic. I did wish a little bit that Victoria made more of a grand gesture as it did seem like Declan was proving himself over and over, but I loved his commitment. Overall, I could not get enough of this story and will definitely be reading more. I really want to read Callum’s story!

I am really enjoying this series, the characters are likeable and different, the team grows and evolves in each story told and I have felt a connection to each of the main couples.
I loved seeing Declan fall for Victoria, to see the changes she brought into his life and to see him fight for them with everything he had. I wanted to hug Victoria a lot during this, she was such a strong woman and such a role model who inspired so many people, evidenced by the people who supported her, stood with her and stood up for her. I enjoyed the banter and friendships between Declan and his team and I believed in his and Victoria's connection and chemistry, seeing them together made me happy, as did their HEA.

Megan Wade's fabulous Curves on Ice series continues with Slapshot Secrets. As per usual, her sugar sweet promise as the Sugar City Nighthawks' easygoing forward finds himself hit right in the solar plexus by Cupid when the team brings aboard a curvy ballet teacher to help the players find their form. Reserved and carrying a world of past hurt, Victoria has a hard time believing that Declan in genuinely interested in her and thus swears him to secrecy when she first agrees to a date. It doesn't take long before he is tearing down her walls. But with careers set in different cities and coming from two different worlds, will they be able to find forever together? Steamy and swoon-worthy, Declan and Victoria's journey is an entertaining, sexy read.

Victoria is a curvy ballet instructor that had a horrible experience with a former partner/lover?. So she stays away from hot athletes and just wants to coach the Nighthawks hockey team. but everything changes when she meets Declan. Declan is a pro hockey player and he falls instantly for their new coach. He tries everything to show Victoria that he loves and cherishes her , but her old insecurities make it hard for him. Victoria is a bit hot /cold, but that's not because she doesn't love him. But Declan fights for his woman and their future. Instalove, OTT, sweet, steamy, romantic, sometimes a bit frustrating, fun to read, great side characters/couples and with a sweet HEA 😍😍 Can't wait for Callum to fall for his woman 😏

Victoria has put her heart and soul into creating a body positivity ballet program where any body is welcome. When she’s asked to help trying the Sugar City Nighthawks Hockey team she’s thrilled to share her knowledge to help the players become better players. From past experiences Victoria is very gun shy when Declan starts to pursue her. She wants things to be kept a secret so her world doesn’t come crashing down like before. Declan has been a player on and off the ice but when he sees Victoria that all changes. He makes jester after jester to try and make Victoria see that he truly wants her and doesn’t care what the world thinks. Another great book in this series. I received an ARC copy of this book.

This is book 4 of the Curves on Ice series and is about hockey star Declan and dance studio owner, Victoria.
Declan isn't your typical hockey player. He's an all around good guy and his team has his back, which comes in handy when he sees Victoria walking across the ice. He falls hard and fast for her.
Victoria has a past story that a lot of young women have, being judged because of their weight and appearance. She has been hurt by a guy who acted like he liked her but was mean later on.
I really enjoyed seeing Declan take a stance and showing weight isn't everything. That people's heart and intentions are what matter the most.

Victoria has a past story that a lot of young women have, being judged because of their weight and appearance. She has been hurt by a guy who acted like he liked her but was mean later on.
I really enjoyed seeing Declan take a stance and showing weight isn't everything. That people's heart and intentions are what matter the most.

This is a great love story where the NHL Hockey Star falls for someone who isn’t a size 2! Victoria is a ballet teacher who had too many curves to be a ballerina, she is hired to work with the hockey team. As soon as Declan sees her he is taken in by her beauty and curves. Victoria has had it rough with body shamers, she has started a school for all body sizes. When it comes out that the two are together things get ugly. However, this time Victoria isn’t alone she has a whole hockey team behind her.

You just can’t go wrong with this author’s books filled with humor, bod positivity and love. Declan falls instantly for the curvy ballet teacher who has been hired to help the hockey team. Victoria has walls up due to a past humiliating experience. I absolutely adored Declan and his persistence of making Victoria his. Loved how the team rallies around Declan and Victoria. Darling read that leaves you smiling.

Declan and Victoria's story is a sweet read I enjoyed. As a BBW myself, I could relate to Victoria. In fact, I've had some of those same thoughts. But I loved the Declan and the other ladies poured positivity into her. It really reminded her of why she started her own ballet studio and that only she can define who she is. I loved the Declan fought tooth and nail for her, against the haters, but more importantly her fear. The love of a good man or woman is always powerful, plus supportive friends and family. This was a good read I'd recommend.

Sweet and steamy romance. It was love at first sight when Declan sees Victoria for the first time. She’s a little more reluctant to believe he’s sincere. I loved how he showed her his true self and how she truly meant everything to him. Love the support they both got from the Nighthawks team and their friends.

This was a great workplace romance. I loved the hockey/ballet crossover, it gave the story such a great energy and it seemed fresh and new. Victoria was a very interesting character and I loved her vulnerability. She really wanted to be able to resist Declan but their connection was too strong. And he really went all out for her which I loved. I loved the story.

A heart warming addition to the series. When Sugar City Nighthawks Hockey team find themselves adding ballet to their regimen it set up Declan and Victoria’s story. What happens next was a sweet and steamy romance story that did not disappoint. I love how hung up Declan was with Victoria from the first meeting and it only got cuter as she started teaching the team. This was an enjoyable sports romance story from start to finish.

Declan plays for the Sugar City Nighthawks hockey team, and Victoria is the ballet teacher hired to work with the hockey team. I loved how Declan fell for Victoria instantly and no matter how much she fought her feelings for him he finally broke through. Slapshot Secrets is a sports romance with a ballet twist. The writing is well done, the characters are well developed, and their steamy romance held my attention from the first page to the last. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

What a great way to spend a couple of hours. Victoria is hire by the owners to help train the NHL train the Sugar City Nighthawks to be agile. She's a ballerina that's plus size, Declan is a very fit athlete. He falls first and at first sight he knows she is his forever. He just needs her to see it. There is heat, 🌶️🌶️🌶️, and HEA.

Great story line with characters that kept your attention from the beginning. We are taken into the lives of Declan and Victoria both are ballet coaches who have to work together to train a ballet team, There is chemistry and attraction and tension and romance.

This is a very good story, when two people meet unexpectedly. Victoria has managed to have her own ballet studio, and when she gets a proposal, she doesn’t expect that working with pro hockey players will bring her to meet Declan. You will enjoy the plot, the characters and the good ending of this story.

Sigh:: I wanted so much to like this more than I did. However the h and her running from problems was a huge issue for me. The H really was a teddy bear and it sucked that she kept the push and pull going way longer than needed.
