This was my first contact with the character of Jonah Hex.

I was expecting a western... and it kind of is, but not really?

Most action is happening in big cities, which I think is not the best setting for a western.

Also, It's clear that Palmiotti was given the order to tie this to the main DC series. This is obvious because of the references:

- Amadeus Arkham is a companion to Jonah during the first half of the book

- Other characters made an appearance, like Alan Wayne, Mayor Cobblepot (both present in Gates of Gotham) but also characters like Booster Gold and Superman.

- The Court of Owls has is own arc in this series

I think Palmiotti did a great job with the hand that was given to him, he gave us some good stories but at the same time he tied them up with DC continuity.

There are a few arcs in this run:
- The 1st arc is set in Gotham and is a great bounty hunter mystery.

- The 2nd arc is about the introduction of the Court of Owls in old Gotham and New Orleans and some old characters

- The 3rd arc was the worst for me, it involved a reference to Dr Jekyll and it was really bland

- The 4th arc was also meh with the introduction of Booster Gold in the old west and the subsequent time travel.

- The 5th arc was Jonah in the present and even though is not a western is fine and even fun (especially Jonah seeing a museum about himself, this is also tied up in the last arc)

- The final arc was about Jonah getting back to the old days and finding someone who is posing as him. We get a sweet ending with Tallulah Black.

In summary, this was a great book, but it was hindered a little with DC trying to tie it to the main continuity.

This would have been way better if most stories were set in towns and maybe some small cities instead of being in Gotham, New Orleans and the present.
