"I haven’t always been a writer. My parents are writers and my brother is a writer, and I resisted that as long as I could. When I was 17, I hopped in a band’s van and I went on tour for a summer, and that was it, that was what I wanted to do. I ran a record label for 10 years, a small indie punk label. I did everything in music that you can do that doesn’t involve having musical ability. Eventually the music business, probably in a similar way to comics, will just start to break your heart, and I realized one day that I kind of hated music. I was resigned to thinking, if I’m going to be involved in music forever, I’m going to hate it for the rest of my life. I just stopped. I stopped having any sort of business with music, any involvement.

I read comics my whole life, so I just naturally fell back into another medium that is marginalized and hard to make a living in."

An excellent ending yo a great series. Good story, good artwork, lots of twists, turns, betrayals and action.

Darkseid is on Earth. The unstoppable force of destruction has unleashed his armies to destroy the Earth. All humans, vampires, heroes, heroines, villains or villainess alike are to be destroyed. The only hope is to work together, however, after all the war and loss is that even possible? Especially in light of new betrayals.

This is a great conclusion and a final one at that. Will anyone or anything be left standing? Will the world end with the war? The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.

[Review is for the story as a whole, as I read all 12 issues in one go]

I really enjoyed the first DC Vs. Vampires story, up until the end where it was revealed that it was a just the first part of a larger story. If this was the larger story we were setting up, I'm...not as impressed.

When things are focusing on the DC heroes vs. the vampires, it's great. The hopelessness, the struggle, it's really something to see as the various factions of heroes try their best to survive. But then midway through, we get the arrival of Darkseid and the New Gods, and it becomes a whole different ball game that makes the vampirism of it all kind of unnecessary. The story would be almost exactly the same even if half the characters weren't trying to bite the other half.

The art's a bit looser than I'm used to from Otto Schmidt as well - whether he was just trying to stay on deadline (he did draw 11 and a half of the 12 issues) or the addition of a colourist when he used to colour his own work, I'm not sure, but it's still a bit messy at times.

There are bonus stories added to each issue by various creative teams, but none of them really enhance the main story - they're a bit like the extra bits from All-Out War, in that they're nice to have, but hardly essential.

Also, it feels like we're retreading some plot ideas from DCeased and Injustice here - if you're doing an Elseworlds, surely doing something different is the whole point.

So, okay, but could be better. Maybe I should have adjusted my own expectations.

Not terrible by any means but honestly? It spends WAAAAAY to much time focusing on things that aren't the main course. This is a DC Vampires book, you have to fcous on the vampires.

Vampire Queen Wonder Woman was a fun twist but I felt it spent too much time away from the premise of the story. Like, I don't really acre about Darkseid.

fun, forgettable superhero comic. No themes really, just punching.

Feels like a rushed conclusion even though it is still six issues long. Think it’s good to cap the vampires DC story with this as I don’t think there’s a lot more to go off on.

DC vs. Vampires is a fast-paced, high-concept Elseworlds story that delivers exactly what the title promises: beloved DC heroes facing off against a brutal vampire apocalypse. The premise is fun, bold, and immediately engaging, especially for readers who enjoy seeing familiar characters placed in extreme, morally murky situations.

What works well is the sheer audacity of the concept. Watching the DC universe unravel under the pressure of secrecy, betrayal, and infection creates real tension, and some moments genuinely surprise. Some character choices are chillingly effective, and the body count makes it clear early on that no one is safe.

That said, the execution felt uneven to me. The pacing can be rushed, especially as the series escalates; major emotional beats sometimes don’t have enough space to land before the story moves on to the next shock. A few character turns felt abrupt rather than earned. While the darkness is intentional, it occasionally edges into grim-for-grim's-sake territory without enough thematic depth to support it.

Overall, this is an entertaining but messy ride—fun in moments, frustrating in others. If you love DC Elseworlds stories, vampire horror, and are comfortable with a darker, bloodier take on iconic heroes, you'll likely enjoy it more than I did.

⭐ 3 stars — ambitious, occasionally thrilling, but uneven.
