Hart #1

Il touchdown del cuore

Rate this book
Eppure voglio conoscerla meglio, nonostante i continui rifiuti.
È possibile che io, uno scapolo incallito, sia capace di cambiare idea e aprire il mio cuore all’amore?

I just love Sports Romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 🖤💜🤎💚💛
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌍🌍
Character development: 😍😕🙃☺️🤩

The heroine: Addison Bryant - a widow of six months with a small child. She works in an office doing social work. She is reluctant to trust men after having a bad experience with her husband.

The Hero(es): Jason Hart - NFL defensive lineman who is determined not to get serious with a woman while focusing on his football career. Jason is taken in a little boy, Jaxon Bryant after attending a pep rally at the elementary school his friend Lindsay works at.

The story: Jason can’t get the little boy he met off his mind, especially after finding out that he lost his father not long ago. He contacts Lindsay and gets in touch with Addison to invite Jaxson to a tour of the stadium. When Addison and Jaxson show up at the stadium, Jason is bowled over by Addison.

This book was told in Jason’s POV which I just loved. The narrator, Jacob Morgan was perfect for Jason and has a great voice. I have listened to him a few other times and just love him as a narrator. I usually don’t like singe person POV, but I guess I feel differently when it is the Hero. He did awesome voice inflections for Jason’s best friend Deuce and also for Jaxson.

I especially liked Jason’s relationship with Jaxson. Jaxson was a football super fan and was such a delight I can see how Jason fell for him so fast and wanted to be a friend/mentor to the boy. Jason was also really sweet in how he was so accommodating towards Addison, especially with her being so wary of a relationship since she was a widow with a child. The book was a great sports romance.

I really enjoyed the premise of this story and it started out so fun! I did like it a lot and honestly would have rated it higher if it wasn’t for the conflict towards the end. I felt like the hero was so insensitive with what he did, even if it wasn’t on purpose. I’m happy with the way it worked out though and would definitely read more from this author.

I'll be honest and say I don't typically enjoy sweet and romantic books. I usually need heartbreak, death, tragedy in any form and I want a book that makes me cry. I also hate football. So, I went into this book with a little apprehension to say the least.

M.E. Carter made me smile and I liked it. M.E. Carter made me like a football player and I liked it. You can say that to the beat of Katy Perry's song if you want. But, I don't kiss girls. Jason Hart does though. He kissed a girl and made me smile from ear to ear. I don't mind admitting I was wrong. I can in fact thoroughly enjoy a book without it ripping my heart out.

I loved it being from a guy's POV and the author did a great job conveying his feelings. I loved Addison and how real she was. I could relate to her and that was refreshing. I never got bored while reading, the conflict was realistic and the happily ever after was definitely smile worthy!

I recommend this book to any romance reader, even those of you who like to be tortured in books. This book just might change your mind!

A good story, but not well developed. No depth to the story. The characters were nice, but flat. I wanted to love this book, sadly, I just didn't connect with it.

I wish I can pin point exactly what I didn't love about this one.

Being in his head was a bit awkward, like maybe the author couldn't quite pull off the male POV. Stuff he said didn't sound manish to me.

Also I'm a huge sports nut. Football is my life. I'm not sure how much the author actually gets into the game but a few of the things she says struck me wrong. There was a baby due in May and someone said "I hope it doesn't come early". If that baby came during football season then for reg season that would end in January. Yeah I think you're good dude. Not many babies come THAT early. Also the MC had 4 sacks in a game. Now that's not impossible but not really common either. The leading DT right now has around 16 for the whole season! So it was far fetched.

Also some petty drama in the end. I mean I know he's a man but come on no one is that clueless.

Jason Hart, Defensive Lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, is happy with his life as it is. He's believes there will be time for a relationship when his limited time in football is over. He's only close to two people, Michael "Deuce" Johnson who was traded to the team when Jason was and his childhood best friend, Lindsay Miller, with whom he'd recently re-connected. Aside from his mother, they are two of the only people he trusts.

When Lindsay invites Jason to speak at the pep rally at the school where she works, Jason is taken with a little boy, Jaxon Bryant, who has recently lost his father. Though he's not sure why, he feels drawn to the little boy, he's even more interested in spending time with him when he meets the little boy's mother, Addison Bryant.

Jason's views on relationships and family change almost immediately after meeting these two and learning more about what they've both been through. Now all he has to do is convince Addison that they all have a future together.

This was really sweet and fast read. I liked it a lot. I loved Jason's connection to Jaxon and how amazing the little boy was. I got Addison's reticence to dating someone like Jason, but I loved how he showed her that he wasn't perfect and that it wasn't easy to be with someone outside of the famous sphere.

If you are looking for a cute, sweet, sometimes funny romance with very little angst, then this is the book for you.

Jason Hart is an NFL star for the Dallas Cowboys (BOO!!!!! I am a Giants fan LOL). When he does a favor for his childhood friend, Lindsey, speaking at assembly to welcome students back at the elementary school she works at, he has no idea his life is about to get "shook". When a joyous 7 yr old named Jaxson rushes the stage and hugs his legs thanking him for coming to see him on his birthday he is at 1st shaken but then intrigued, especially when he learns more about the boy. See Jaxosn lost his dad 6 months ago in a car accident. Jason lost his dad at around the same age years ago. When he cant shake the memory of Jaxson and the need to help him deal he makes calls to have him come visit the stadium.

During the visit to the stadium Jason meet Jax's mom, Addison, she is gorgeous and sparks something within him. She even seems to playfully flirt with him so he asks her to dinner but is shot down, hard. Still he wants to see Jaxson and their bond grows. While at the same time so does his and Addison's but her past and her worries about his job are major stumbling blocks. Onlne stories, the paparazzi and stupid actions lend just enough angst driven twist to make this book a fast read. One you will not want to put down, I didnt. ONE DAY READ HERE!
Addison
My only negative thing about this book is the football aspect. As a guy I am a sports nut. So when I read a book and the sports is written wrong it is a major pet peeve. There were a few glaring mistakes that way. That said....it STILL got 5 stars from me so you know how much I loved the read.

A debut novel by M.E. Carter that is an impressive package filled with a perfect blend of romance, an abundance of heartwarming moments, along with some realistic conflict to balance it all out. Add this one to your reading list – you won’t be disappointed.

Awesomeness all rolled into one remarkably well done sports-related (football) romance with a fresh and authentically “normal” woman as the heroine. Addison is a young widow that is not quite ready to step into the world of dating or new relationships. She’s sassy, witty and wears Spanx to cover those stretch marks every woman fears. She’s just real and that makes her all the more lovable.

A star defensive lineman, Jason Hart is a man with a big heart – and yes, he stole my heart! Written in the male lead’s POV gives readers a wide view into his thoughts and feelings which only adds to his already swoon-worthy status. And if Jason doesn’t get the job done in winning your love and admiration, then the adorable Jaxon will definitely succeed! There are so many tender “awe” moments shared between the football hero and a little boy who has suffered a devastating loss at such an early age.

Superbly written, well -developed with a natural and realistic build up to a loving relationship, this is an utterly charming and refreshingly SWEEEET read!

Note: Kudos for the gorgeous cover by Murphy Rae that compliments the book so well.

It was a cute, quick read. I don't think I've read much or even any that was completely in the point of view of the male character which was a nice change. Usually you'd think it would be hard to connect, but surprisingly it wasn't like that. olus, let me mention Jason Hart is a Dallas Cowboy. ;) My team and town where I am. Doesn't get any better than that! It's so cool to see different places mentioned that I know of! I loved Jason and Addison's story and thought it was cute. Any guy who has that fatherly attitude like Jason does always wins my heart. Jaxon was a little cutie and couldn't help but love him too! Though, this was a predictable read. I caught on quickly to the little twists, but that doesn't take away from the story. Cute read!

This is a simple cute romance book. I lost the sappy sweet feel of the book with the continuous reference to Addison's body shape. Why was it necessary to mention it clear to the very end of the book? I felt like it detracted from a sweet story and instead made it seem from Addison's point of view like jason loved her in spite of her weight. Not necessary.

I have had my eyes on Carter’s books for over a year and I finally decided that now was the time to see what she has to offer because I had her recommended a few times.

Well.. not for me.
I am a sucker for a good sports romance, but I struggled so hard with this one.
The amount of “telling” was so high it truly affected the pace of the story, and made the characters seem so distant. I had zero connections to anyone. It felt like the “connections” the characters had were superficial.
I didn’t buy Hart’s “affection” because the story was written in a way that “stated” how he felt, but I didn’t “see” it. I didn’t feel it. I couldn’t understand it.
It was just so plain. Quite frankly I was bored.
Nothing remotely exciting happened and it just seemed flavourless.

It was basically a book about this single footballer trying to date a woman who got a super hyper kid.
That’s was I got out of it.

It’s easy to say I don’t think Carter is for me.

What a pleasant surprise this book was! I heard about it last night and I was so interested in the story that I started it this morning and finished it a little after.

Jason is a football star who is enjoying the single life. His friend Lindsay asks him to speak to the kids at the school where she teaches and he agrees. Little does he know that his life would he changed by a little boy named Jaxon Bryant.

Jason meets Jaxon at the school. He is his biggest fan and he and Jason form a connection. Jaxon lost he dad 6 months ago to a car accident and Jason experienced the same thing around his age. Jason somehow felt connected to Jaxon and wanted to get to know him. Of course with that, comes meeting his mom..Addison.

I love how this story flowed. Jason wanted to be a friend to Jaxon and while that's happening he is starting to fall for Addison as well. You think everything is going well but Addison pulls away and is hesitant because of her insecurities because of how her husband treated her for years before he died. I felt so bad for her because she was holding back thinking the same about Jason being that he was in the spotlight. Jason doesn't take no for an answer and decides to prove her wrong.

I love how their relationship grew..more him and Jaxon. they became so close and I loved how his text messages to Jason had him feeling better no matter how his day went. I loved how Jason was with Addison showing her how beautiful she was and made her feel special no matter what. she deserved it too. u don't have to be that skinny perfect looking model all the time. Jason was a man who appreciated all the curves and that was a plus in my book :) well done.

I can not mention how awesome his friends Deuce and Lindsay were. They were hilarious and were great supporting characters. honorable mention goes out to Mick too. :)

Overall I am glad I took a chance on this story. it was sweet and well written. towards the end I was glad certain things got cleared up. :)

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author. :) do yourself a favor and add this to your tbr list today! you won't be disappointed ;)

I really enjoyed Change of Hart. I loved every character in this book (besides the annoying reporter of course). Jason isn't a player or bad boy. He meets Jaxon at a pep rally and feels a connection to him. Jaxon reminds him of himself. Jaxon is probably Jason's biggest fan. He is such a cute little guy. Jason invited jaxon and his mom for a tour of the stadium. He feels attracted to Addison from the start and tries his luck (not in a sleazy way, he asks her on a date). However bcause of circumstances she is hesitant and shuts him down.

Jason can't get her out of his mind and also continues spending time with little Jaxon. Addison can't resist Jason for long! This was a sweet contemporary romance. Sometimes I am just in the mood for something light and this was the perfect fit. The writing was great! I will definitely check out ME Carter's other books.

This was just ok. It was a bit boring and the insta-love made it hard for me to read.

What I liked:
1) The story was told from Jason's pov. It was written in the first person voice, but other than the sappy parts, wasn't too painful to read. It reads like the mind of a guy. I mean, he's checking out the backside of a woman he knows wasn't recently widowed. That's honesty for you.
2) There's no drama. I appreciate that.
3) The epilogue. Even though I didn't really care too much about what happened to the MCs, I like that the epilogue gave me a glimpse into their future.

What I didn't like:
1) How wishy washy Addison was.
2) How dumb Jason was about his schedule. Honestly, he's an idiot.
3) The instant "I need to know this woman better" feeling that Jason got. I mean, I know it happens in real life, and at least he wasn't in love with her right away, but I think it could have been written better. It wasn't very compelling.
4) Jason. I don't know if I liked him that much. He does seem like a nice guy, but it doesn't seem like he's had to work very hard for anything in his personal life. It made me want someone better than him for Addison.

I loved the premise of this book and the characters were good, but it was some of the content of the book that I had problems with.
First, too much dialogue with secondary character and some of the dialogue felt awkward. Very awkward. So much of it could have been deleted. The book is written in the hero's POV, but at times, his "dialogue" sounded feminine. Some of the dialogue with friends could have been deleted. I did not care about Deuce and his wife, Vanessa, who sounded like a very moody person even though she was going through some hormonal changes. I think the author was trying to show that the hero, Jason, was a nice person, but I understood that early on and did not need him in these intense conversation with all of his friends to confirm that over and over.

I thought there was going to be pining since the heroine lost her husband 6 months before and has a young son, but there was no pining. That part of the story moved along very well.

This could have been so good, but I think a lot could have been eliminated. I found myself skimming

3.5 Nice Read Stars

The first chapter of this book had me hooked and I did enjoy the story overall. I rated it at 3 stars because it just felt like something was missing. The epilogue (which is gorgeous) was from Addison's POV but the whole of the book was from Jason's viewpoint and I think it would have benefited from mixing up with Addison's because at times she came across as quite cold and detached. Not wanting to put in any spoilers but the reason for the drama towards the end was a bit irritating. I couldn't believe he would be that epically dim.
So, overall, a sweet and quite romantic story with a slow burn building between the H/h. Has lots of potential but hero did irritate a little and I wanted more from the heroine. The one liners by Jaxon and Deuce and Lindsay were brilliant. Somehow, I liked the secondary characters more than the primary ones. Would recommend for a nice ,easy and entertaining read.

While this book has a great premise I found that the writing and plot were lack luster. It had tremendous promise, it just didn't deliver. It has nothing to do with me not being a big sports fan either because I really wanted to enjoy this read. The plot is a big 'been there done that' again and again and the writing mediocre at best. I do enjoy a great out of the box story that is was being reviewed as. So when this came across my timeline I jumped on it but my disappointment was inevitable because the preverbal box had never opened for me.

Oh my gosh!!!! I just fell in love with this book. Jaxon stole my heart. What a sweet little boy.
Then there was Jason (A Dallas Cowboy football player) who took it upon himself to reach out and befriend Jaxon. Jason had also lost his father when he was a boy. I really enjoyed reading the scenes where they were hanging out.
I liked Jaxon's mom Addison. I really felt for her and what she went through.

I am looking forward to reading more books by M.E. Carter

People choose to read characters going through everyday experiences and dealing with normal situations. M.E. Carter has managed to encompass most of those reactions and more in her amazing debut novel. This tale is so real. Such an honest portrayal of sincere characters going through life. Parts will make you tear up and really think of how you would cope with the same thing happening to you or your family. And other segments will make you crack up laughing. I loved every twist and turn of this story.

Addison is an elementary school teacher and single mother. An everyday woman with physical flaws and emotional baggage. After losing her husband tragically, she is attempting to raise her son in a healthy environment but is struggling internally with some guilt and is certainly not devoting enough time to herself. Romance and dating is not even on her radar.

Jason Hart is determined to make the most of his football career and is navigating through a very public life with himself and his wants and needs as priority number one. He refuses to get serious with any woman, and enjoys playing the field both in his NFL job and in romance. Settling down isn’t happening any time soon, in his mind.

But things quickly change in a chance meeting with Jaxon, a child at the school where Jason was doing a random public community appearance. The bond that is instantly forged between Jason and Jaxon was so sweet and heartfelt. Jason was his hero and Jaxon quickly became Jason’s little buddy, teaching him lessons that he didn’t even know he needed to still learn.

Addison is Jaxon’s mother and through the eyes of her child, she learns to deal with her own grief and guilt while forming a friendship with her child’s celebrity hero. Feelings beyond friendship were developing but Addison refused to allow herself to go there, in fear that if things didn’t work out, her child would again lose a prominent male figure in his life, and she couldn’t bring herself to be the reason for his impending devastation.

This book definitely carried you on a journey with some heavy subject matter but was written in such a beautiful and lighthearted way. The secondary characters were crucial and added a necessary balance between the heavy and fun. We all either have a friend like Lindsey, or wish we did and Deuce was hysterical.

Once Addison gave into the attraction she was feeling for Jason, their chemistry was hot and undeniable. I was anticipating the typical hot and steamy “first time” scene which M.E. Carter absolutely delivered, but she throws you for a slight loop by making everyday realities and concerns part of the action. Addison needed to freshen up before proceeding forward and get her spanx off first. She was insecure and shy about her stretch marks and curves. I admired her and this author for keeping it real. Just enough humor intertwined with the serious.

Ultimately, the story takes an unexpected turn, which I refuse to spoil, insisting that you read it for yourself. You will be shocked for sure but I’m confident that you will be happy with this book in the end. Whether it ends the way you wanted or not, the writing is well done, the story is well told, and the experiences are authentic. M.E. Carter truly scored a touchdown with this phenomenal debut novel and I cannot wait to read more from her in the future. I hope this is just the start to a promising career ahead.

4 Tight Pant & Jock Strap Wearing Stars

Breaking news people....new author in town. That's right High Five to M E Carter. Now I am assuming Ms Carter is a Dallas Cowboy fan because she has written a story that revolves around the much maligned and talked about football team. I live in Dallas. I am a fan of football. The Cowboys are fine, but I am really a fan of the tight silver pants, scruffy very fit guys, and...and....the tight pants.

Jason Hart is a Dallas Cowboy. He gets his fair share of publicity, but would rather stay under the radar. He doesn't have stars in his eyes. He knows that football is his job and with that comes the press and the groupies. He just wants to do some good with his fame and play ball.

Addison lost her husband in a car accident. Her 7 year old son, Jaxson loves football and is missing his dad. When Jason shows up at Jaxson's school, they have an instant connection. Jason is glad to do something for a the kid who lost his father too young just like Jason did.

When Jason meets Addison, he sees not only a single mom, but also a woman with a great smile and a very hyper son. As they spend time together, they realize that this is something that needs to be nurtured. This is special.

I'm not sure what it was about her wearing my jersey that got me so excited. The concept seemed a little primal and possessive.

Ms Carter has written a sweet, fun romance. A realistic romance. There are misunderstanding, but they act like adults. Imagine that! And they are real characters. Not perfect cover models.

When my hands pulled the dress forward so it could fall off of her onto the floor, I finally broke away from the kiss to have my first look at this beautiful woman's body.
It was not what I expected.
"What the hell is that?"...
"It's my Spanx."

Yes, that's right a Spanx wearing woman. My kind of woman. A real woman whose boobs are not perky and needs Spanx to pull off the evening gown look. Hallelujah!

Ms Carter also knows her audience.

Book nerds can apparently get pretty crazy.

Apparently Ms Carter has seen me at Book Signings! This is a great debut novel. It is about real people with real feelings. The characters have depth, insecurities, pasts, and want to work for a future. I look forward to more from Ms Carter. I may have to take her to a Texas Rangers game. They wear tight pants too.

Jason is a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys. He is a hometown boy and a childhood friend he had reconnected with asked him to speak at her school for an assembly he couldn’t say no. He and Lindsey went from toddler to college together.

On the day of the assembly a little seven-year-old boy, Jaxon, flies up on stage crying and saying, “Thanks for coming for my birthday, I knew you would come. He was a little shaken. But something in his shaky voice touched Jason. In fact, it shook him to the core.

When he couldn’t get Jax out of his head he asked the principal for a sit down with the boy. He finds out the boy’s dad died six months ago. That he’s a huge football star and his grandpa can’t come over as much to watch football like he and his dad used to do.

After a few dad’s and he called still get Jax’s out of his head. He talked with Lindsey and asked her to give his mom his number to set up a time to take a tour of the stadium. When Jax and his mom arrive, he is totally blown away by her. She might be on the curvy side but she beyond gorgeous. He loves women with meat on their bones. She had been made to feel however that she wasn’t enough, to curvy, and to old.

But for Jason she was pretty perfect he just had to convince her of that. So, when that happens one side of the split was time, he spent with Jax and the other time he spent with her.

I enjoyed this book and its story of hurt, pain, conflicts. The characters are fun and witty. My only problem is that the wedding scene seemed rushed.

Take one hunky football player, an adorable little boy, and a slightly gun-shy single mother and you have a sweet, easy read.
There wasn't really anything to this book that grabbed me, it's just one of those books you enjoy for what it is. It had a great cast of supporting characters, especially Lindsay and Deuce, they gave me some laugh out loud moments.
While Jason is quite the hunky football player, he tries to convince us that he's an "alpha", something his inner monologue tells us. But honestly, he's not quite the alpha you'd imagine...he's actually a sweetheart. His connection with Jaxon is really special, it's nice to see that friendship develop.
The love story between Addison and Jason builds up through out the book, it's definitely not a case of insta-love, as Addison takes a bit to convince to even go on a date.
There was one point of contention in the book that I saw coming. But luckily it wasn't drawn out to cause too much unnecessary drama.
Overall this is a good book, perfect for a lazy afternoon.

*I received an ARC of this book from the author* I love a good athlete story, and this definitely is one of my favorites. Jason Hart is a genuinely good guy, and despite the fact that he's a well-known NFL defensive lineman, he doesn't have the ego that usually goes with it. I loved watching the bond develop between Jason & Jaxon; it was very sweet. Also, I laughed my butt off through most of the book!! Deuce & Lindsay both had some fantastic one liners & really made the story. I can't wait to read more from the author!
