Widow's Bay #4

Wands Have More Fun Lib/E: A Widow's Bay Novel

Rate this book
A dead body, a vampire with a dad bod, a beauty pageant, a blizzard, and getting back into the dating pool after twenty years? Just a typical week in Widow's Bay.

After a judge for the inaugural Miss (Or Mister) Vernal Equinox Pageant is found murdered, town reporter, Marzie Nowak, is pressed into service to judge the event. It's the last place she wants to be, not only is the murder unsolved, but there's also a vampire with a dad bod trying to suck the life out of patrons of the local microbrewery. Marzie's magic plate is spilling over. It seems Marzie and the Widow's Bay Witches have to figure out how to use wands, fast, if they want to protect their town from evil.

Then there's the ancient undead but still handsome as sin billionaire with a crush on her. Dating a supernatural being at her age? What would she even wear for that? Marzie just wants to do her job and report the news of Widow's Bay. And now there's trouble on that front too, Marzie's getting scooped on every story she covers. With a blizzard bearing down on the town, an unsolved murder, and wand making 101, Marzie just might melt down. Thank goodness her cat Agnes and her sister witches in the coven are there to pick up the pieces!

How can a three-hour and forty-minute audiobook feel like it's gone on forever and still end so abruptly that I found myself checking that I hadn't missed a chapter?

'Resting Witch Face' the first book in the Widow's Bay series was fast, fresh and fun. 'Coven Mitt' wasn't quite as good but did a lot to move the story and the characters on. 'Late Broomers' was harmless fun - the kind of thing that, if it was on TV I'd watch it but wouldn't look for it and would probably pause in the middle to make a pot of tea. So I downloaded 'Wands Have More Fun' expecting nothing more of it than a little amusement to keep my mind occupied during a long, boring drive.

I didn't expect to be turning to my wife after the first hour and going, "Is it just me or does this plot have no forward momentum?" and then, an hour later for her to say "When did the main witch get to be so smug?" We were most of the way through the book by the end of the journey we debated whether it was worth listening to rest.

We did and it wasn't.

I'm done with this series now. The plots have become more absurd. The main witch has become less likeable. The author doesn't seem to know what to do with the lead Vampire and he becomes more boring with each encounter. There was a lot going on in this story and some of it could have been good fun. I liked the bits where the witches were learning about wands. Sadly, the pacing was off, there was no tension and nothing to hook my curiosity.

So, now I'm looking for a replacement set of comfort-read audiobooks. If only the Mr Monk series was available in audiobook format.

So much fun in Widow's Bay!

I just love that all our lead women are 40ish and single to fully come into their witchy powers. Makes getting older feel more like a prize. Great things happening in Widow's Bay as the men (with the bad vampire, Alvarado aka Tonat) challenge the DLC over leadership in the town. Of course Alvarado is being a sleaze, lying to the men and bribing officials, but you know the women will pull it out in the end. There's a blizzard and a pageant, and shake-ups at the end. I'm starting the next book immediately!

What do you get when you visit Widows Bay in the Up you get a dead dance teacher a freak blizzard and a run away train of a talent show. But Marzie is getting to be a pro at all this and now for some wand training which is much easier then broom training if you forget the exploding cat trap.

Marzie Novack thinks here life is just about perfect she has a job she loves until some stinker at man cave news starts to out scoop her she has a great groop of friends with the DLC until some shady Inspector starts coming after there business and man cave always seems to be around to write about it. And after the dance instructor dies mysteriously she gets wrangled into being a judge for a local talent show. Then theres all those middle aged men trying to become Vamps and there so not attractive epic failure why would they do this and why dose all lead to the local Moose Lodge. But its not all bad Marzie finally goes on a date with Brule the swoony vampire with a french acent who am i kidding all the parenormal men in widows bay sound dreamy well except for the ortho wearing dad vamps. And more things are coming for Marzie but you have to read the book to find out. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

You know you're in trouble when you cat gives you dating ad fashion advice

A good read but the ending was so, so. Although I did like the bit at the end regarding her job and sons. But the actual ending was a bit of a damp squid. It was great until then (though the proofing errors made me try to make sense of certain bits) a murder, someone out to get the DG's and disrupt not only their composure bit also their livelihoods, wannabe vampires and gaining their wands. But the murder was so overshadowed by the other events as to just become a footnote to the main story. Whilst the real culprit was found - more by luck then judgement it still left all the rest just up in the air. Frankly that left me feeling a bit flat as all the other books (even though the followed the progress of the DG's all ended with the main problem being resolved but this one hasn't. On a lighter note she is being wooed by the handsome master vampire although her cat seems to think she needs a bit of help to reel him in. Sounds like the next book will be a good one - hope so as feeling disappointed with this one.

Just when Marzie is feeling that she is getting into a good rhythm, she has become more confident in her abilities as a reporter and a witch, the local dance teacher is murdered. The new members of the DLC are informed that they must have wands, Marzie is scooped by an unexpected competitor, and members of the local Moose Lodge have become minions of Pedro Alvarade. Marzie is quickly feeling overwhelmed with work, a new commitment she can't get out of, and the gorgeous vampire Etienne Brule has made his interest clear.

Fun and unique characters trying to learn the do's and don'ts of their new witchy powers. Fast paced, funny, suspenseful, and some wonderful twists in the plot make this a must read. I loved this book.

I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.

I really like Marzie. She is a straight shooter. She lives in quite a spirited town with all kinds of supernaturals fighting for power. As a reporter, she tries to be fair but it is not easy to keep out of all the trouble especially when she ends up in the middle of a crime.

The book keeps a light-hearted tone as Marzie and her fellow witches have some attempts against them to fight and need to fully learn about their powers. She also has to make choices of the romantic kind after many years out of the dating pool. I smiled a lot as she negotiated how to proceed with the very tempting vampire in town.

The ending shows that she will really have her hands full in the next book and I am looking forward to all the fun.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

This book had so much going on and it all meshed together very well. The witches are ready for the next stage of training, wands. Marzie and the girls got to go get the wood for them. Marzie powers are getting stronger also. She's starting to get visions. They all need something because Ridge is back and they are determined to take Widows Bay from the witches. They are illegally shutting down witch businesses.
Of course another murder rocks the town. Marzie is getting scooped on the story and others. She's gonna have to step up her game to stay in it. Someone is also making Renfields to add into the mix.
It is starting to get very interesting and I'm loving it. There is never a dull moment.
I voluntarily agreed to review this book. My review is my own honest opinion.

This book finds Marzie dealing with a murder of a dance school teacher, becoming a judge of the pagent due to the murder, getting scooped by a new news guy. Having a people come after the DLC's and all the other supernatural aspects. Please deciding to date the hot vampire in her life, Brule. I am very happy to see Grady back in this book, love the interact with Marzie and him. I am hoping that they get in a relationship. This is a fact pace, great humor and with one going story line and the evolving of the characters. I highly recommend this book/ series, if you haven't read it yet, anxiously waiting for the next book.

Definitely Entertaining

Well, I’m about to start reading book 5 so these witchy characters are definitely entertaining but please, those little editing errors can get annoying, especially after reading a sentence three times without figuring out what it was meant to be.

Overall, I like the premise of Marzie as an enterprising reporter surrounded by small town mysteries many which point to an ancient, Spanish vampire plus a bunch of super girl friends who also happen to be modern day witches. Throw in plots to ruin the witches’ businesses, a dad bod vampire, a troll named Trew, a rich and elegant vampire and a dashing shifter and hey, I’m a happy camper.

Another great read in this series.
You could read it is a stand alone, but it is easier to understand everything when you have read the other books in this series first.

Marzie and her coven are in for something new.
There is a new vampire in town, but he is different.
Next to that some men in town are against her and her coven. Doing a few things to undermine there good things. So the witches do need a wand.

Great and fun read with action and romance in it. Something of everything.
I can't wait to read more in this series.

Next installment in the cozy series. Lots of trouble brewing in this one and the ladies struggle to manage their daily lives, their new powers and what they do/don’t know about them, the presence of other supernatural beings, the weather, and more. Each book focuses on a new facet, and this time it’s about wands.

Wands Have More Fun is the 4th installment in Rebecca Regnier's wonderful Widow's Bay collection. This series is full of witty humor, magic and mayhem, murder, intrigue, politics and even a little light-hearted romance. The storyline is fast-paced and well written. The characters are well developed and engaging. This is one episode you don't want to miss!

Magical master piece

Brilliant as usual. This series really is excellent. Things are hotting up for the coven and not just in the flush department. The M word is getting out of hand, by that I mean Moose Men not Menopause. As usual the girls fight back but it's starting to get hairy. Really looking forward to this next book.

Engaging Story but...

I loved the story, but the spelling and grammar errors were distracting. I love to fall into a good tale but I felt yanked out when the grammar was wrong and I had to reread sentences for understanding. It needs a thorough edit but a good editor...but don’t let that stop you from reading. It’s quite an enjoyable series!!

Marzie is a judge in a beauty contest and competition is fierce. Meanwhile, there's a threat to the community from a semi-vampire. And Marzie has her own competition in a new reporter who keeps getting the scoop on her. The coven bands together to learn to use their new wands. There's mysteries and there is also so much fun to be had.

Paranormal murder mystery

Another cute paranormal murder mystery. The characters are quirky and interesting. Agnes is by far the best character. Light and not demanding. Still dislike the name the broken spine for a book store or any store

Marzie has been asked to judge, since the previous judge was murdered. As usual the new wands are causing havoc and there might be a new love interest. Strange things are the norm.

Slow moving

The series is getting better slowly. The ante has been up by some males in widows peak but how far they climb is anyone's guess.

Such fun

Another romp in the U.P.
Witches, wands, vampires, shifters, romance, beauty pagents, blizzards, and murder. And of course a mind-talking familiar cat.
