When he first found me, I thought I was lost. Now I’m convinced he wanted to find me. They call this place Fallthorne. A playground for masked men and biker kings — where danger rules, and desire is the deadliest game. I came here for a fresh start. Instead, I walked straight into a war. A war ruled by Augustus Grayson — the very man I thought I had put behind me. Cold. Unforgiving. Telling every woman in town exactly what happens to the weak. He says he wants revenge. But when his eyes trace my skin… something darker flickers beneath his intent. And it isn’t just rage. Someone else is watching too — someone who knows our secrets… and means to use them. To survive this game? We must play by their rules. Because when the stakes are blood and fire… No one walks away unscathed.
Author's This is a dark viral masked biker forbidden romance. It features a morally black anti-hero with medium to high burn. Please check the author's note or full list of TWs on her website.
When Nessa Davenport arrives in Fallthorne, a fallen tree leaves her trudging through the woods when her cab driver can go no further. Stumbling onto two masked men changes the entire trajectory of her life.
Augustus Grayson is a mercurial man, used to the power his surname evokes. When Fallthorne Elite’s newest English teacher doesn’t fall in line, his interest intensifies into a full-blown obsession.
So at first blush, this Pretty Little Liars meets MaskTok story appears as though it will follow the standard high school bully/enemies-to-lovers trope formula. And it is, at the core an E2L. It’s also a fuckton more. We also get a dash of forbidden, a side of age gap, and a whole damn buffet of kinks and depravity! If that weren’t enough, Simran layers in a secondary plot that could have likely stood on its own. For many authors this would have been a whole ass mess. I gotta tell ya, it worked! Since we’re being honest, I think 665 pages was a bit excessive. However, I’m really not mad at it because … Augustus … He is all that and a box of chocolate. But not just him. I adore how brave and stubborn Nessa is as she navigates the toxic and intense situationship she’s found herself in. Moreover, between the push and pull, the depravity, verbal sparring, and all the suspense, I never once felt like I was ready to wave the white flag. And if you know me, that’s saying something because I am a slow reader.
Personally, I could have done without one of the scenes. It was a blip in the overall story, but I’m always left shaking my head when an OTT J/P MMC shares. Ultimately, I think that’s what led me to land on 4⭐️.
Final thoughts: Kaid and Scarlett. Yes, please!!

📣 Type: The Invite is the first book in the The Massacre Ball series. The couple gets their HFN, but the overarching storyline will continue in future books. As such, this series must be read in order.
🛑 Be Advised: My Goodreads shelves are … explicit in both senses. As such, they could be considered spoiler-y.
All right guys, this book has to be the spiciest book I've read so far! Seriously, there’s so much spice packed into this story, and thankfully they delivered. Beyond the spice, the mystery and suspense kept me hooked the entire time. Even with over 600 pages, I zoomed through it in just 2 days!
The story follows Nessa, a brand-new teacher at an elite high school. On her way to her new place, she unexpectedly crosses paths with two masked guys who turn out to be her students. One of them becomes a little too obsessed with her for comfort. Nessa is trying to escape her past and start fresh, so she definitely doesn’t need this added complication!
Then there’s Augustus. He comes from a powerful and wealthy family and has this arrogant, manipulative side. He loves pushing Nessa’s buttons and, honestly, everyone’s a bit scared of him. But from the moment he lays eyes on Nessa, he’s completely obsessed. He can be cruel and a bit unhinged at times, but there’s also a thoughtful, sweet side to him that shines through. He’s definitely a walking red flag, but I couldn’t help but fall for him!
The relationship between Augustus and Nessa is forbidden and intense, yet there’s also a sweetness to it. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the tension between them is just electrifying! I loved how Nessa stood up for herself and how Augustus looked out for her, even in his own unhinged way. This book has its fair share of spice, but there are also so many twists that kept me guessing about who the real villain was. My heart was racing, and I was so invested in the story! The side characters added even more fun to the mix. There are a few that I’m really curious about, and I hope we get to read their stories in the future. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!
I will say that the spice is pretty good, and that alone was making the book entertaining, though I didn't care for some of the verbiage, like "bang her more ruthlessly." The overall writing could be better.
I also personally feel like more than 600 pages is a lot for this genre. If you're going to have a lengthy book, the plot has to hold up, or it'll just drag on. The blurb definitely made it sound dark and fun, and it is indeed dark. But I got a quarter of the way in and nothing in the storyline really grabbed my attention.
Sometimes I'll read a book and get to a certain point where I have no interest in reading another chapter. Unfortunately, that was my experience here

if you hear someone barking, dont worry, thats just me. this book was everything. ive gotta say, its disgusting the rate at which i finished this 600+ page book. i could not put it down! at first I was upset cause I thought it was going to be mfm or mmf and it was mf but as time went on August and Nessa just formed the most perfect/imperfect relationship to me. the dynamics of forbidden/taboo and the power exchange was perfect and worked so well. seeing august go crazy over her and then pull it together, giggling and kicking my feet! then nessa acting like she doesnt care, girl you do and we know you do! the spice?! THE SPICE?! Simran is aways going to bring good spice but my god this was other worldly. maybe its because I love somno but the scenes had me damn near fanning myself! then there was a scene that has major spoilers but let's just say other people are sort of included... HOT i wanted to scream and throw August's no touching rule out the window. he was kidding, go to town everyone!! no everyone would have passed away. the suspense in this book also kept me on my toes because I was having a lovely time with the spice then here comes wanna be A from pretty little liars and ypu thought at the end, yay, We did it joe! no. A got y'all and at what cost? but book two? enemies to lovers and rivals it looks like? count me tf in thank you to the author agency and the author for allowing me to ARC read!
What the freaking fuck did I read just now?? Oh my god!! This was one fabulous dark romance with a stalker and an obsessed MMC. Do not miss out on this. A must-read. Simran has a way of bringing her characters into reality, and she always makes me fall for them. Each and every story of hers becomes my obsession. I AM OBSESSED. ADDICTED to the beautiful stories and how their characters connect with me.
There was no dull moment in the entirety of this beauty. First, the cover is stunning, and it tells you so much about the MMC. Then the story starts with one hell of a plot, making me question everything from my morals to my taste. You know what I mean. Hahahaha. Augustus Grayson is not just a student but a scary masked monster who is also a biker. He is a walking wet dream for all the dark romance girlies.
Nessa, nessa, nessa, what should I say about her? She was a very intriguing FMC, and do I love her for it?? Hell yes, I do. The story begins with her moving to a new town for a fresh start, but she has secrets, the shadows have secrets, and the move can make her life better or worse. Who knows??? Do read to find out. The spice is outstanding and in sync with this captivating story.
Simran wove the story with so many twists, and it came banging on at the right time, making it more interesting and thrilling at the same time. The side characters in the story are equally mesmerising, and I need all of their stories. I just hope she decides to write them all because this story might be finished, but the GAME is still on, and who knows what will happen next or where “A” will strike next.
The chemistry between Little Prey and August is intense, and there’s no denying the craving there. The REVERSE AGE GAP is done right, and this is the second book with this trope that I love a lot. It is going to be in my top read this year. I am in awe, and any and all praise I do for it will not be enough. This book needs more love and appreciation. I can't wait for the next book with a said Huntress in it. Suspense thickens.
I don't even know how to began writing this review!! I'M that much SPEECHLESS!! 💀
I mean, GODAMN, this book was a straight-out 5-star read for me! If I could I would rate it a 20/10, cause this book is surely a baddie!! And she's thickk too!! 👀
Let me tell you, I was quite literally screaming in CAPS at 2 AM with that mind-bogling ending?! I mean what do you mean I have wait?! My mind is already cooking up theories ahead?! And I'm getting Scarlett x Kaid next?! Damn, I'm deep in it! 😮💨
TBH, this book is everything I look for in an unhinged dark romance book with the perfect amount of spice. I mean how wouldn't it be, it had everything -
- PLOT twists leaving your mind blown! I'm still processing what all happened.
- ALL the CHARACTERS have such a strong personality, you'll definitely have favorites.
- Their were so many layers of SECRETS waiting to be peeled just like an onion while tearing your eyes up at moments.
- Mystery which has you guessing till the end who was the ONE?! You're not alone if you can't guess till the end, I'm with you!
- Spice which had me fanning myself throughout the book.
- The build-up is so damn good, you'll feel it explode like a godamn time-bømb on you!!
Plus, don't even get started on the spice this book carries! UFF... even I had to take a breather in between while reading this one! I was literally thirsty!! It was so damn HOT, Filthy, dirty all at the damn time. The MMC & FMC both definitely has a dirty mouth & k!nky actions. So do check out the spicy list once. 🔫
I'm so rooting for Scarlett x Kaid's book next, like it's a tørtur3 to wait?! But good things comes to those who wait! Right, Simran? 🤭
Well, a MUST RECOMMEND from my side if this sounds down right your alley!! Your masked biker is waiting for you!! 🏍🔪🎭🔥🩸💉✨️📖
This is my first read by this author, although I've definitely seen a lot of hype around other books.
When I spotted this first book in a new series, I knew it was time to dive on in.
This is the first book in The Massacre Ball series and I really loved the image on the front cover which screamed bad boy (biker?) MMC - and I couldn't wait to find out all about this.
Well, this was certainly a chunky read at over 650 pages and I have to admit I was a little freaked by the read time when this opened - but I have to say that once I got into this, I devoured large chunks in each sitting and it felt like I was flying through this - so don't be put off by the size.
I've definitely met a fair few morally grey mmc's in the past - but only a few who progress to that completely black status - like Augustus here.
At only 18 he's definitely a surprising one and at times I did have to remind myself of the age gap.
Nessa was completely hooked from the start and as much as she knew this was all wrong - there was no way she could resist or escape.
This was definitely an eye-opening read in places and there's a whole lot to unpack!
I'm sure you can tell from the cover - but definitely check out your content warnings before diving into this as it really does get dark in places.
For me, I was all there for it and spent good potions not even blinking I was reading so fast!
There were some great side characters who I'm pretty sure set up much potential for future books in the series and I absolutely can't wait to see how this series progresses.
This was well written and full of spice and tension - it totally drew me in and I wasn't sure I wanted to leave - I can't wait to get hold of book 2 soon!
ARC Review ✨ First I would like to say a big thank you to Simran for letting me be apart of this ARC Team! Rate: 4/5⭐️ Spice: 4/5🌶️
What to expect when reading The Invite; -Dark Romance -Student (18)x Teacher(26) -Touch her and 💀 -Reverse age gap -Stalker MMC -Dub/Noncon
This is book one of the Massacre Ball series! You get to follow Nessa and Augustus. Definitely check trigger warnings, and buckle up because it’s a wild ride that’s for sure. I was a little unsure about the ages, I think college would have been a better setting, but with that being said I LOVED everything else about this book! I will tell you this book was HOT. The chemistry between August and Nessa was soooo intense! The plot is was crazy and not what I expected but I can’t wait to read the next book already
Fav Quote: •”I worship you Nessa
Make sure you get your copy of the book when it releases Aug 28th🤍 #bookstagram #romance #review
Wow, this book was a rollercoaster! So many twists and turns, and I loved it. I loved a reformed man, and that's what Augustus became, although he didn't let go off his darker tendencies. The best dark romances are when the MMC is smitten for the FMC, and I'm glad I got to see his growth throughout the book.
My only issue was that this book was too long, which was definitely brought about how many plot lines there were. I thought we were dealing with a classic student x teacher thing, but then throw in that he's a stalker, there's an anonymous person threatening them, and Nessa has a secret past, and we had a lot of different things going on at once. I hope the next book is a little more compact, but I can't wait for our next couple!
Thank you to Simran and The Author Agency for the arc!!
If you wanna reed a grown adult woman who acts like a total child and is trying just SO hard not to want to get railed by her student this book is for you.
This book was a wild ride! The gothic setting created an atmosphere of danger and seduction where secrets abounded and obsession was the name of the game. This story follows Augustus Grayson, the masked man who becomes Nessa's tormentor and Nessa Davenport, Augustus' teacher, who has newly arrived in town.
Augustus was hands-down the embodiment of a morally grey anti-hero. He was both terrifying and alluring. His obsession with Nessa was the center of the story and was both unsettling and captivating as he inserted himself into every aspect of her life. Nessa's struggle with her attraction made her interactions with Augustus that much more intense, along with the fear and undeniable chemistry. I was constantly on edge wondering whether Augustus was evil incarnate or simply an obsessed protector, or maybe even both. I enjoyed seeing boundaries pushed and seeing the dark romance between Augustus and Nessa flourish.
Simran blended moments of slow burn with high-stakes drama. The introduction of an unknown enemy added an extra layer of suspense that kept me turning the pages.
Overall, The Invite delivered on the dark, forbidden romance imbued with danger and intense obsession. If you're looking for your next masked anti-hero, Augustus will take you on an intoxicating and wild ride.
⇾This is the first book in the massacre ball series, and it was phenomenal! I loved reading everything, from the beginning till the end. Simran’s writing is smooth, flows well with the story, and please know this book is smutty.
Trigger warnings & spoilers :
Story : ⭐⭐⭐
Plot : ⭐⭐⭐
Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐ extra star for Augustus only. Writing style : flows well, easy to read, grammatically there were tiny mistakes, but other than that, perfect.
MMC : ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (he’s unhinged, attractive, oh, and eight years younger to her)
FMC : ⭐⭐⭐ (she’s feisty, older, caring, and strong)
side characters : side characters do stand out, specially Kaid and Scarlett.
Story setting : small town called fallthorne.
Dedicated to by the author : this book was dedicated to all the girls who dance with the devil, and boy did the author deliver.
Pacing : medium - fast. (The smut kind of feels like a distraction from the main story, but then the story stokes, and it was a bit dragged in the end to keep the mystery of who “A” is.
Tropes : ✅ dark romance. ✅ reverse age gap. ✅ touch her and die. ✅ forbidden romance. ✅ teacher - student. ✅masked men. ✅biker men.
Type of romance : dark. (This book is darker than other books written by Simran, please check the warnings before diving in).
Tags for the book : masked men, dark romance, contemporary, spicy, forbidden romance, mysterious, suspense, happily for now, hand necklace, somnophilia, choking, anal play, among other things.
What i loved : i loved Simran’s writing, it was easy to read and dive in, “just one chapter” became 22 chapters later. Augustus was everything a dark romance hero is made of. And i loved Nessa / Tyra’s character too, she’s feisty, and only gives in to Augustus.
Favourite parts/ highlights : - Strength and independence don’t stop at saving yourself. You have to push yourself to keep living too.
- I discreetly try reading the price tag as I take it from him.
“Ness,” he growls low.
- Strong fingers grip my chin and tilt it up until I’m staring into the slightly softened gaze of my handsome monster. “Stop worrying. I like expensive shit and my girlfriend will have them too.”
- “I get that money is important and can also be gone in the blink of an eye. But ultimately, I can’t take it with me to the grave. So, I’m going to enjoy it while I can. Fulfilling your needs, physical or otherwise, brings me a sense of satisfaction that I haven’t felt before.” His brows draw together as if it’s a puzzle to him too. “All I know is I want more of it. So, give up arguing ’cause you aren’t going to win. Now, try this on.”
- “You shouldn’t talk about killing so callously, Augustus,” I finally reply, curling my fingers in his green tee.
“I meant every word.” Hooking an arm around my waist, he shifts me to his lap. His head tilts until our temples touch. Our lower halves flush against each other. I breathe in his scent, becoming drowsy like it’s a hypnotic drug. “You don’t need to ever worry about me crushing your soul, Nessa.”
- “It’s not only your body that’s mine, it’s everything about you. Your every waking thought, your fears, your smile, your touch, your secrets, your orgasms—they’re all mine. I’m stamping my name all over it. And your soul is no longer yours, it belongs to me. I protect it. I worship it. I own it. I’ll gut anyone who tries to crush it, including myself.”
- Calling Nessa my girlfriend.
Taking her on a ride to my favorite spot.
Then feeling a tightness inside my chest as I left her house after tucking her into bed this morning. I realize… I’m absolutely fucked.
- I smile and the black cloud passes from his eyes. They sizzle with possessiveness as his thumb brushes over my lips. “Is this… for me?”
He utters it like he can’t believe I’d ever smile for him. I don’t know why but it makes my heart pang. So, I assure him, “Yes.”
“All because I admitted to having feelings for you?”
“Yes,” I softly reply, the moment feeling pivotal. “It made me happy to know this isn’t one-sided.”
“I’ve never craved or cared to make a person smile.” The timbre of his voice turns deeper as he confesses, “Until I saw it last night and heard your sweet giggle while you sat behind my bike. I’ve been wanting to see and hear it again ever since. I didn’t think it was possible for you to be even more gorgeous, then you do this,” he tugs at my bottom lip and rasps, “and prove me wrong.”
- I don’t agree immediately and curiously ask, “Doesn’t it bother you that I’m older than you?”
“Hardly.” A small smirk graces his lips. “Age is just a number, little prey. I sure as fuck find it hot that you’re older than me.”
“There’s no swaying you, is there?”
The air crackles with lethal intensity as his expression turns possessive. So is his grip when he wraps one hand around my throat. “Just answer me this. Do you want to be with me?”
“Yes.” If there’s one thing that I’m sure of in all of the chaos and danger, it’s being his. Augustus has become a constant fixture that anchors me. An immovable mountain that shields me from anyone daring to hurt me.
“Then forget all your doubts and fears.” Pressing his thumb on my pounding pulse, he darkly vows, “I didn’t let anything stand in my way to you when we first met and I’m not going to let it start now.”
- “Ruined,” he grunts. “You’ve fucking ruined me for all women, little prey.”
- “But I like a few of them,” she protests, digging inside. A cute frown mars her forehead a second before her eyes snap to mine. “Why are my panties missing?”
“I jacked off in them every night after returning from your place.”
Is a part of a series : yes. Series name : the massacre ball series. Series order number : 1. Plot or character driven : plot driven. Loveable characters : yes. Strong character development : there’s character development for Augustus, and it’s also kind of complicated. Flaws of characters a main focus : yes. Interconnected/ or standalone : it’s an interconnected standalone. Recs from the same author : i’s recommend reading the arranged games series, it does not have masked men, or bikers, but it does have spice, morally grey heroes, villains that’ll make you weak and fall in love.
Similar books : this was my first book, so no recommendations for now.
Last details : the half mask, the half biker look, behind the massacre ball setting is reference to when they both leave for the Massacre ball, it’s a really good book cover. I liked it.

Holy spice. I got this as an ARC and wasn’t disappointed. It was unhinged and wild and that’s okay. It’s spooky season , so masked men and a mysterious atmosphere are a yes for me. Augustus is wowie, I think Nessa is a good match. I also like the side characters a lot and am interested in them which is always a plus.
0.50 / 5 Stay with me meets haunting Adeline (pardon my spelling error if any). Honestly it's a mix of different storylines to increase the novel length. The dubious con almost borderlines on non con. The MMC came across as much older and only appeared "young" when his age of specifically mentioned. So overall there wasn't much of a plot or good reading experience
Simran’s The Invite, the first instalment in The Massacre Ball series, plunges readers into a shadowy, forbidden world where danger, obsession, and seduction entwine. From the very first line, it sets a hauntingly dark tone, promising a story of pursuit, power, and survival. The novel thrives on its atmosphere—a gothic blend of masked men, biker brotherhoods, and the sinister spectacle of Fallthorne’s infamous Massacre Ball. It’s a setting that feels both alluring and claustrophobic, pulling the reader into a place where every mask conceals not just an identity but a dangerous secret.
At the heart of the story is Augustus Grayson, the masked monster who becomes Nessa’s shadow. His dual role as both student and tormentor makes the relationship uniquely unsettling, blurring the line between the forbidden and the irresistible. Simran leans heavily into the morally grey anti-hero archetype, crafting a character who terrifies as much as he fascinates. Nessa’s internal conflict—caught between attraction, fear, and survival—drives the emotional intensity of the novel. The interplay of power dynamics, forbidden desire, and psychological manipulation keeps the reader on edge, never certain whether Augustus is protector, predator, or both.
The pacing blends slow-burn tension with sharp bursts of high-stakes drama. Nessa’s move to Fallthorne, intended as a fresh start, becomes a descent into a world she can’t escape, where the rules are written by men like Augustus. The narrative doesn’t just revolve around their dangerous chemistry, though—lurking beneath is a deeper mystery. The presence of an unknown enemy introduces an additional layer of suspense, expanding the conflict beyond the central romance and making the danger feel all-encompassing. The threat of deadly secrets emerging ensures the stakes remain high.
Stylistically, the book indulges in darkly lyrical prose, echoing the theatricality of the masked, decadent world it portrays. The author doesn’t shy away from intensity—this is a story designed to make the reader uncomfortable at times, leaning into the hallmarks of dark romance: obsession, moral ambiguity, and power struggles. The author’s note makes it clear that this isn’t a romance for everyone—it’s deliberately transgressive, written for readers who crave morally black heroes and stories that push boundaries.
Overall, The Invite delivers exactly what it promises: a dark, viral-style forbidden romance steeped in danger, obsession, and shadows. It won’t appeal to readers seeking a lighthearted love story, but for fans of masked anti-heroes, high tension, and the allure of danger, it sets the stage for a series that promises to grow even darker and more intoxicating. It’s a captivating introduction to Simran’s world of The Massacre Ball, one that lingers with a mix of fear and fascination long after the final page.
I am officially a Simran fan!!! This is my third book by her and I swear they keep getting better. I discovered her by accident for her most recent duet. I knew I needed to read this book because not only did I enjoy her previous books but who doesn't like a taboo, masked biker romance. I was not disappointed in the least. Let me talk about August. Whoo that man is everything. He is unhinged and completely unapologetic for it. He knows that his possessive and unhinged ways are not normal and he could care less. He is a guy used to having power and influence. He knows that he is "untouchable" because of his families power. He uses that power to his advantage. He never shys away from letting Nessa know who is in charge. He is the ultimate, morally grey character. You cannot help but love him because he is so obsessed and possessive of Nessa. He is not used to having feelings of any kind. So when he meets Nessa he has no idea what she is going to bring out of him. She pushes him at every turn. She does not bow down to his whims. Nessa seems like your normal good girl when you first meet her. She is a teacher who has come to a town and she has to take a detour through the woods to get to her new home. She stumbles upon a scene she has no idea of. You start to see bits and pieces of her true self come out. She is not as buttoned up as she wants to pretend to be. She is hiding some big secrets but she is also secretly unhinged in her own right. She tries to fight her attraction to August but at the end of the day she cannot hide that she likes the unhinged ways he has with her. He does not take his time with getting what he wants. He takes it and makes her enjoy it. She lets him even if she tries to pretend she doesn't want or like it. The spice is spicing in this book. There are so many secrets and other elements in this book that it leaves you guessing what is coming next and leaving you wanting more at every turn. The more you get invested the more you want from this book. I cannot wait to see what else is going to happen. This story opens up a whole series of books with other character stories waiting to be told. I seriously cannot wait. The author left us knowing that their are more secrets to come in the next book. I feel like this author does such an amazing job of not only character development but also story development. She does not hurry the story along. She really taps into the story line to give you as many of the answers that she can without giving everything away, especially since there are more books to come and the story will continue to play out in those books. If you love a story with masked men, unhinged men, and completely unapologetic characters this is the book for you.
This was my first time reading Simran and The Invite was the right book to do it. Because , a first in a series . Yay !!! It's like a crush course in dark forbidden romance. And if you like your book boyfriends morally grey, obsessed and a little unhinged then this is not your book. Augustus Grayson is so pitch black that morally grey isn't on his color pallet, he's over the top possessive and absolutely obsessed with Nessa. So his stalking is next level. Oh , and he has friends that are equally unhinged. So Nessa stumbling on them , that definitely put a spotlight on herself . Nessa was an intriguing character with so many layers to her and so many secrets that her story kept me highly intrigued to the end . Augustus and Nessa were explosive together with crazy chemistry. And his pet names for her were so cute and telling for his change of mind towards her . Yes it went from little prey to Ness pretty fast . They have that instant connection that redefined everything between them . She intrigued him with her defiance and that hidden fire of hers. The Invite is steaming hot and will overheat your Kindles . The suspense line coming with the Anonymous Game was chef's kiss . Add all the secrets the characters are keeping and the suspense is doubled. And some characters lead a double life you wont suspect till the end . And all those plot twists every now and then when you think that you got everything right. I'm still questioning the part some of the characters played in the grand scheme of things but loved it that August and Nessa got their happily ever after. There's still a loose ends that have to be tied and mystery to be solved because the almighty Anonymous is still after them and is forcing them to play that wicked game. And I hope that will be solved in Kaid and Scarlett's story . I have to say I'm quite curious about them. And I so want to know if Maverick and Ace will have their stories ? Because Ace was such a plot twist . And is still on my suspects list . Yes , I do them when I'm reading . If you don't , better start while reading The Invite . You'll need it .
Thanks to the author and The Author Agency for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.
I’ve never read a teacher x student book where 1: the student is in high school?? And 2: the teacher is the FMC. And while the first one definitely threw me off a little bit I loved their whole dynamic. I’m big on forbidden romance and while I never thought I’d like student x teacher, this book and (kiss the Villian) completely changed my mind. I love a good unhinged, obsessed, masked biker and stalker mmc (dam that’s a lot of adjectives), and Augustus is the best example of that. He kinda gives Zade Meadows vibes by sneaking into her house at night, watching her, then waking her up by doing something more… also the whole “hot and cold” game is my absolute fav scene. I like how they have this whole “I complete you” sort of thing, not a weird one, but like when they get together and heal each other in unexpected ways. He’s felt empty for most of his life but she sparks that flame back in. She’s running from a dark past but he makes her feel safe. I adore that kind of connection and love. The plot was good, kind of felt like a “One of Us Is Lying” sort of plot where each of them have secrets they don’t want to be exposed. I just felt like the ending was so rushed? Like the whole “Anonymous” thing was so dragged out, and I thought Scarlet getting the blame was unnecessary. But for some reason what should have been one of the biggest plot twists happened and was resolved within like 10 pages??? Like I didn’t even process that it happened then it was already resolved?! I was legit expecting it to be a cliffhanger, but yeah, so that’s my biggest problem with this book. There is still a minor cliffhanger, but it’s sort of like a “to be continued” into the next book because their story is over. However their chemistry is off the charts, and I’m kind of stuck between a 4 and a 4.5 on this one so I’m giving it a 4.3 (lol I’ve never given this before).
Starting off a new series is always just such a great feeling and this one? HOT. DAMN.
There's a lot here... A LOT. As always, read your content and trigger warnings. If anything even remotely causes you to hesitate, move on - it ain't for you and that's okay. Otherwise, strap in!
Right off the bat, we have student (MMC) x teacher (FMC) where the setting is high school. Yes, pause, high school. Augustus is 18 and Nessa is 26 (so truly up to you how you feel about this since everyone is of age and it's fiction). Nessa is working to start over but almost immediately runs afoul of the wealthy Augustus - his family essentially runs the town. Augustus isn't very happy when Nessa defies him. Trust me, Augustus is morally black and there are times (read: a lot of the time), he's not likeable as he torments Nessa in revenge.
My issue is that this book is more than 600 pages and at some points, it started to slow down at points for me; I thought some pages could be cut here and there to make it a bit tighter. Additionally, while the synopsis makes it clear that it is reverse age gap and teacher x student, it doesn't say high school anywhere. Frankly, I'm not sure I would have read it if it had.
That being said, the spice is definitely spicy and there are a lot of popular tropes: primal play, masked man, stalker, etc. There is also mystery/suspense, which I really enjoyed. Anything with twists and turns that is going to make me think: A+
Reverse age gap with a morally black MMC? Only Simran can pull it off like this!
🔥Dark Forbidden Romance 🔥Masked and Biker MMC 🔥Student x Teacher (She’s the teacher) 🔥Stalker MMC 🔥"Who did this to you" 🔥Boy Obsessed 🔥Kinky and Spicy 🔥Dub/Noncon 🔥Mystery and Suspense 🔥Morally Black MMC
Thank you to the author and The Author Agency for the gifted copy!
SIMRAN, WHAT DID YOU DO??? This is absolutely epic.🤯👌🏻✨️🙌🏻 From start to finish, I was totally HOOKED.😳 It felt like I was watching a thrilling suspense movie instead of reading a book. This book is truly a MASTERPIECE by her. Simran crafted a wild, unhinged series that’s like a rollercoaster ride, and I'M SO READY FOR MORE FROM THIS SERIES. ❤️🔥🙌🏻💯
Now, let’s discuss the main characters in the book. AUGUSTUS Grayson... everyone... is such an unhinged, possessive, and caring MMC. From the very beginning, I was literally drooling over him. At first, he displays all this unhinged behavior, but eventually, it shifts into something possessive, protective, and caring... and I was like AWWWWW 🥹🤌🏻💘. He even sketches Nessa after every spicy scene because he’s that obsessed with her.😭😭😭 I'M SOOOO FREAKING DEAD. Then, he tattooed her name on his neck to show that he belongs only to Nessa.💘💘💘♾️ Nessa is a fascinating woman with a traumatic past who just wants someone to love and care for her. The growth she experiences is truly incredible.🫡😌
The writing is spot on, and the book is so thrilling and exciting that you never know what’s coming next.🤯 There were so many twists and turns; it was absolutely crazyyy. This definitely deserves to be a movie. I can NOT wait for the next installment in this series because, even though major plot points were resolved and we get a hypothetical HEA, there’s still more to come with a kind of cliffhanger.😳❤️🔥
Augustus and Nessa make a very interesting couple. The tension, banter, and spice between them are like fire.🔥👌🏻 I also loved the side characters—Maverick, Ace, Kaid, and Scarlett—and I hope to read their stories in the future of this series. ☺️🖤😉
Best. Book. Of. The. Year. Hands down! I don't think I've ever read a dark romance that was also a thriller/bordering on horror. The first half is a dark, stalker, masked biker, forbidden romance with a bit of suspense. And then we get into the thriller part that ends up bordering on horror. The plot twists I did not see coming AT ALL and I normally always guess correctly, or in the vicinity, and this I did not. So freaking good!!!!! This book is the God of Malice, Lights Out, Haunting Adeline of 2025. I'm just so shook from reading this and I'm trying to put my thoughts together.
The basis is a story about Nessa Davenport, a 26 year old, who decides to start over in the small town of Fallthorne. She will be the high school senior English Lit teacher. First night there, she has a dangerous encounter in the woods with two guys. Enter 18 year old senior Augustus Grayson whose family is rich and basically owns the town. He is planned to become the city's mayor one day. There is stalking, blackmail and manipulation and you will not like Augustus for a long time. Taking into consideration the fascination of masked men, primal play and the BookTok/Bookstagram universe, the author has created a world that is creepy because it feels like real life for us readers in a way. The writing is on point and the book is so thrilling and exciting and you don't even know what's coming. This is how it's done people. This should be a movie for sure. I can NOT wait for the next in this series, because even though major things were settled and we get a hypothetical HEA, there is still more to come in a kind of cliffhanger.
The Invite stood out from most stalker romances while still keeping that irresistible charm. The forbidden element made it all the more alluring, pulling me in from the very start.
Nessa and August are incredibly compelling characters, each carrying secrets and layers that kept me hooked and desperate to uncover more. The story carried a strong thriller vibe, heightened by the mystery of the anonymous letters—I was flipping pages like crazy just to uncover the truth behind Anonymous.
What I loved most was watching their relationship evolve. It began as something purely physical but slowly shifted into something deeper and more meaningful. Their connection grew stronger with each chapter, giving them room to feel, to trust, and to fall in love.
Nessa wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s kind, feisty, and unafraid to stand up for herself, yet she still worries for others—even when they don’t deserve it. August, on the other hand, is every bit the morally grey character you’d expect, but as the story unfolded, he revealed so much more depth. I especially loved how he stayed in touch with his emotions—never fully denying them, only reluctantly accepting them. And when Augustus Grayson fell in love? He became an entirely different man. It’s true what they say: love changes people.
The mystery of Anonymous had my mind reeling, and the twists and turns were nothing short of addictive. And let me just say—the smut was to die for. A masked biker and his teacher? It doesn’t get hotter than that.
The final twist has me reeling, and I can’t wait to dive into the next book to see how it all unfolds.
THIS STORY EXCEEDED ANY EXPECTATIONS I HAD!!!! This book is a lot different from Simran’s previous stories, but it is as engaging as a story could be. 😍
I came expecting a student biker/teacher spicy romance and was served plot, spice, darkness, twists and romance! The overall story was a roller coaster, I was initially thinking it was a fun spicy read and it suddenly got dark. I devoured the story and was I’m so intrigued by that ending, so I will patiently wait for the second book in the story.
The Invite, is the first book in the Massacre Ball Series which introduces us to a dark twisted world in which nothing is what you expect. The story develops in Fallthorne, a promising town in which Nessa intends to start her life over as a teacher. She quickly encounters the fact that there will be no calm at her new town when she comes face to face with scary masked men in the woods.
Augustus Grayson, is the masked monster who hunts Nessa. He is obsessed and is used to people bending to his will so he takes on the role of tormentor very seriously defying Nessa’s wants. The plot follows a dark and twisted event that all characters are forced to solve while Augustus and Nesta end up completely obsessed with each other.
All I’ll say is only Simran could make me love a romantic suspense story! 🙈
Tropes: * Student / Teacher * Masked Men * Obsessed MMC * Reverse Age Gap * Romantic Suspense * Morally Black MMC * Dark Forbidden Romance * Spicy Romance🔥
That was one heck of a ride!!! The Invite is a dark and twisty romance! I don't even know how to put into words what I just read! In this story, we have Nessa, a teacher, and Augustus, the student. But Augustus isn't just any student. He is going to be the next mayor. After they have an accidental first meeting in the woods, Augustus has his eyes set on Nessa. Especially after she gets him suspended for his indiscretion. He stalks her every move until he can make his way in and when he does, he plans to break her. But as they fall into their pattern on stalking, entering her home, having intense spicy moments, a new threat emerges when anonymous begins sending them messages wanting them and their friends to reveal secrets. Murder takes place. Everyone is suspecting each other. But Nessa is also keeping a bigger secret. She isn't who she says she is and she may be the one putting everyone in danger. This book was quite long, but there was never a dull moment. I loved Augustus's dark, deranged nature. He just seemed so unhinged. You never know what to expect next from him. Nessa's character did a complete turn around in this story too. While she started off as this sweet, gentle natured teacher, by the end, she was a leather jacket, boots wearing biker that did not back down! I enjoyed all the ways Augustus brought out this side of her. If you like your books dark, twisted, full of secrets, thrills and intensity. I highly recommend this one. I cannot wait for the next book!
It’s rare when an author can pull me in, dirty me up, and leave me breathless by the final page. Simran scores a perfect 10 with The Invite . Dark. Passionate. Dangerous. The Invite tossed me right into Fallthorne’s night, and I was lost in a world of masks, obsession, secrets behind every shadowed door. Nessa heads to Fallthorne for a new life as a teacher, but her first night on the job takes her through the woods for a hellish walk of daytime nightmare as she faces masked men – and Augustus Grayson is a temptation Nessa never wants to give in to. He’s deliciously wrong on every level: as black as they come, dangerous, possessive, a tormentor that makes you yearn for both protection and terror. The student/teacher forbidden. The age difference. The secrets. The first dark kiss. It’s deep, dirty, and sinfully, deliciously imperfect. And when you think you have the villain pinned, there’s another snake in the grass that pulls the rug out from under you. Intense, addictive, and perfect pacing for every heart-skip, edge-of-your-seat moment. The worldbuilding between the masked biker royalty and the enemies between the shadows was so vivid I felt the cold mask on my face, the roar of the bikes, the velvet of the gowns. Simran doesn’t fuck around: this book lures you in with its beauty, then twists open the seams with the darkness that lurks beneath. If you like your romance dark, your hero an obsession, and your love a deadly, addictive sin, The Invite is an unforgettable ride.
If you’re like me — the type who can watch a movie or read a book and immediately guess the plot twist or who the villain/killer are — I dare you (no, I FREAKING DARE YOU) to read this masterpiece.
Because guess what? You won’t see it coming. It’s so refreshingly unpredictable that you’ll start questioning your own skills. Sure, you’ll have your suspicions, but nothing is what it seems.
This was my first read from this author, and I was hooked from chapter one. My jaw dropped more times than I can count. I gasped, I cackled, I clutched my imaginary pearls. The twists? Woooow.
I stayed up until 4 AM to finish it, survived on two hours of sleep, and have zero regrets. The tension? Immaculate. The angst? Delicious. The spice? Sinful. And let’s not forget the masked men and the filthy, delicious kinks that every dark romance girly dreams about.
It’s so deliciously written and sewn together that I can only recommend this book with my whole dark little heart. I can’t wait to read the next ones in the series — like, I’d sell my soul right now to have them all in my hands this second.
No spoilers from me — because you need to experience the chaos firsthand. Read it. You won’t regret it.
P.S. Ryat Archer has been my number one book boyfriend for years, and I honestly thought no one could dethrone him. But then Augustus Grayson walked in like, “Move over, dude.” And he did. I didn’t think it was possible to fall harder for someone even more unhinged than Ryat… but here we are. I’m shocked. Send help.
ARC review is the invite by simran -Biker MMC -Stalker MMC -Teacher student relationship -Forbidden relationship -Touch her and die -past trauma
Thank you, simran and theauthor.agency for an arc copy of this book that has now been released
Where do I start? I was hooked right from chapter 2 into this book and I just didn’t want to put it down. 😂😂😂😂
The story follows nessa and August and they actually meet in the woods one night and Nessa gets away from him but then the next day she starts a new job as a teacher and August walks in a student
From that point, he was pretty hooked on her and he does some questionable things to get her attention but as much as she said she doesn’t want the attention she secretly craves it but she’s also got a lot of secrets from her past that she’s just not willing to disclose as of yet
The spice in this book was spicing was one of the hottest books I think I’ve ever read and I have read a lot of spicy books in my lifetime😂😂😂😂
I fell in love with August like I am still thinking about him after I finish the book he’s brokenness really it just came through in relation to the way that he treated NASA and felt about her
The last 15% though I did not know what was gonna happen I was really shocked and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat
I honestly could not read this book any more and could not recommend it any more. It was phenomenal and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for Scarlet’s book.
Ob-freaking-sessed with this! It’s a must read that’s like a pure shot of smut crack you physically have to force yourself to put down for even a second and it’ll leave you an addicted, wrecked, hot mess that’s fiending for more! It is insanely intriguing, like has you in a chokehold dying for air cannot stop until you know everything, intriguing, it’s so hot hell seems cold and not even Antarctica has enough ice to cool you down, and your dark romance heart nearly beats right out of your damn chest in happiness with all the stalking, knife play, primal play, insanely over the top obsession and possessiveness, murder, masks, and BikeTok. That’s right bring you to your knees, sexy, sexy, sexy BikeTok, and Augustus Grayson has a channel that combines bikes, primal play, and a room in a basement that will have you biting your fist and groaning in pure freakin bliss. The plot in this book DOES NOT QUIT binding enemies and friends together in a game of truth or die, there’s a serial killer looking for revenge and to finish what was started years ago, no one is quite what or who they seem, and the romance between Augustus and Nessa, it’s forbidden, twisted, on fire and the second it jumps from him toying with her to catching feelings…dead. You pretty much spontaneously combust and happily go down with the flames because no one does all in like Augustus. Cannot recommend this one enough if you like even a couple of things in this long list of goodness!
