When I say I didn’t expect the SPICE in this book, I mean I DID 👏 NOT 👏 EXPECT 👏 IT!
This one sits right on that razor-thin edge between dark romance and pitch-black depravity. Like genuinely, some scenes 😮💨😮💨 were 💯 toeing that VERY thin line.
This book was whole lot of smut and some plot. Personally, I prefer more plot to what this had. HOWEVER… if you want the kinda depraved WTF did I just read spice… this is absolutely it 🤣

Loosely based on Halloween film… yes, the Michael Myers kind — we meet Kaleb and Shiloh, who are now step-siblings thanks to Shiloh’s pathetic excuse of a father marrying Kaleb’s equally useless mother. Something horrific happens to Shiloh, and Kaleb… well, let’s just say he handles it in the most Kaleb way possible ( IYKYK 😏)
Kaleb ends up in a mental institution for life (or does he? 👀),
Fast forward to when Kaleb gets out of the institute… and let me tell you… okay.. Kalebs love language is chopping people’s fingers off and leaving them as presents for Shiloh 🤣 I mean I CAN NOT deal with him 🤣
He’s out there living his best life in a mask, murdering people left and right while being madly obsessed with Shiloh.
Was there plot? Yes. Did it go deep enough? Not quite. The setup was there, but I wanted more from it.

Kaleb – Absolute menace. I love him 🤣 He is an intelligent mask wearing man that is completely unhinged, and completely obsessed with Shiloh. He loves Shiloh with his WHOLE being! I don’t mean heart I mean his WHOLE self! His heart, body, soul, mind! Everything starts and ends with Shiloh where Kaleb is concerned! It’s the kind of dark depraved love that us dark romancers love to read about!
Shiloh – She’s not innocent in all this. She’s just as far gone as Kaleb, and She LOVES it. She doesn’t run from the dark, she steps into it willingly. Kaleb didn’t drag her into the madness oh no… he just gave her permission to stop pretending. She’s loyal, intense, and is absolutely devoted to Kaleb! She is so protective of him, she is the only person that ever understood him and i absolutely adored this for both of them.
🌶️ The Spice 🌶️
Spice : THE SPICE 🌶️ 🤤! This was completely off the charts disgusting 🤭there where times there, no lie, where I felt like I needed to go to church to confess my sins because god dam was that spice depraved! 🫣 There is a particular scene involving Shilohs dead professor that had me covering my eyes and devouring the scene all at the same time… This book is HEAVY on the spice

Simply 🤔 I like more plot. Toward the end, I started to lose interest because it leaned so hard into smut that the story started to fall away. When the plot returned, I was hooked again… but ultimately I just needed more

That said, I did love this book. I would absolutely recommend to read this book! The author did an absolutely phenomenal job at writing Kaleb! Like,.. what a man 🤤🤤

this is dark stalker romance, michael myers inspired, masked characters, serial killer mmc x innocent fmc, taboo / step siblings, they both saved themselves for each other, stalking, ex-convict, time jump, primal / blood / fire / ice / fear play duo pov, and standalone 🖤

the moment kaleb was introduced i already fell so hard. is someone who doesn’t speak a lot but shows his affection through actions. and that’s usually in the form of killing people who hurt his step sister shiloh 🥹 they’re so beautiful together it’s so amazing !!
shiloh’s life was always full of disrespect from her father and students she went to school with. when she was cornered in the bathroom by a couple of boys, kaleb found out what happened and he immediately went after them. this landed him in prison / mental institution for several years. he had always looked out for shiloh, especially when her father was abusing her. but when he heard about what those boys did to her, young kaleb crashed out and rightfully so 👀 it’s been many years now and he always wondered why shiloh never sent him any letters. he made a promise to himself that he would one day break out of this prison. and when he did, he would find shiloh and taunt her.
these two were always meant for each other 🙌🏼 THE LIGHTER SCENE ?!!! HELLO ????? my rose toy flew to my hand like thor’s hammer omg 🥵 i loved how protective kaleb is of shiloh. i loved how psycho he is omg !! the mask just made him even hotter. the way he literally puts her above everyone and everything else was perfection 💋 shiloh is such a precious person. she deserves all the love. she was always drawn to darkness and being able to have that brought out of her when she’s with kaleb was so wonderful to see 🥰 these two are crazy and i LOVED how they got their revenge at the end !!
THAT EPILOGUE ?!? bye. onyx is so cute 🥹 this little family is absolutely everything and i’m going to miss the fuck out of them

Okay, first thing first.... Oh how I devoured this book up 😌 . I am a sucker for dual virgins and the fact not only are they dual virgins but the forbidden aspect of the relationship really made this fun to read. Seriously, I believe Kaleb is literally one of the most pitch-black characters that I have read, and I loved it. The growth you see in him because of the love he has for Shiloh is so beautiful🙂↕️. Now, with Shiloh, I love seeing her becoming a strong woman on her own and being able to stick by her decision and love Kaleb freely🥹. I will always adore reading any of Eva Marks' books. She truly is able to scratch the dark romance itch I will be having.

Shy baby had something happened to her at school, but when no one had her back, her step brother did, and he made sure her abusers learned a lesson that day. But it did cost them. Kaleb is being sent to a psychiatric hospital forever. Or so some ppls think.
Present day, Kaleb is ready for revenge and takes back the one person he cares about. Shiloh, his "little sister," is playing games with his doctor. He's ready to break free and killing left and right. Bring him closer to his goal. As for Shi, she has her own goals she's been trying accomplish she just doesn't know if Kaleb hates her and wants to kill her from what happened in the past. It's alot of tension and push/pull between them. Few times I wanted to smack both of them with the games they played and just wanted them to run away.
They had to deal with the drama and lose ends before that happened.
SPOILER AND PLAN B TRIGGER WARNING: Birth control tampering — the FMC wants to have babies with him, just not right now. He’s a fugitive, you see, so she doesn’t want to risk them running away and getting caught. Anyway, he believes he can take down anyone and anything and he’s really into putting a baby inside her. So he makes her un-take the Plan B pill. If you want to read the book but avoid that scene, you can skip chapter 22 and the first page of chapter 23. Because he makes her well puke it up.

This story 😱😱 had me in a literal chokehold. A smutty retelling of Michael Myers in the best way. Kaleb unalives some guys for hurting his stepsister Shiloh when they were younger and finds himself in a cage. But monsters don’t stay trapped in cages forever. And this monster? He’s coming for his girl.
A twisted romance between two people with trauma for days but THEY WORK. Boy do they work. I just adored the relationship development between Kaleb and Shi. Kaleb was a product of his upbringing and Shi was a product of her experiences and their shared trauma just created a bond of f*cked up ness that tied them together for life…mentally, emotionally and physically.
I loved the twisted game, the kinky intimacy, the suspense and the overall unique and filthy love that Kaleb and Shi shared. Eva is the queen of smut and sensuality and bloodshed😂😂.

Shiloh met Kaleb 11 years ago. He would save her from her father's abuse. When Shiloh was hurt by a couple of boys Kaleb decided to take action. He was arrested for unaliving both boys. Now he couldn't save her. Things are different 11 years later. He's more obsessed with her than ever. What changed? Everything.
When Kaleb was just her brother he was so good to her. Saving her from her father was brave. I feel bad that Kaleb had no one for 11 years while in the institution. Shiloh is bold for standing up to her father. I like how Shiloh kept Kaleb's mask. I love what they call each other. How Kaleb escaped is great. It's horrible that Shiloh was brain washed by her father to think Kaleb would hurt her. Kaleb's messages are definitely different. I'm surprised at the ending. That was unexpected.
Eva always knows how to suck you into a book. She's such an amazing dark romance author and I appreciate all her work. Definitely check this out!

I’m not kidding, I think Kaleb might be my favorite book boyfriend from Eva, and that’s saying a LOT because AHHHH I’M SO OBSESSED. “If you’re looking for a green flag hero, Kaleb Leo Blackwood is not your guy. He loves, lives, and fucks like the masked red flag he is.” Eva had SCREAMING from the START. The way I ATE THIS BOOK UP should be studied. Eva has to be putting crack in her books I SWEAR.

Yes, if you look at the dates it took me ages to read this one. In reality, I have been working for 3 weeks without a day off, I read two ARCs in between reading this one and dare I say as much as I have loved other stories by Eva this one just…didn’t hold my attention. It started off with promise, grabbed me, drew me in. Before I started to find I was bored…a taboo story where; “no-one can hurt her but me,” “I will be the only person she needs,” “I will make her bl33d,” “she will fear me,” “I will k!ll anyone who hurts her;” just got kind of repetitive for me.
We do have interactions with other characters; his psychiatrist, there’s a surprise from him. Kaleb’s need to control everything Shiloh does, even though he sees her darkness too, their combined need to seek revenge, his unhealthy psychotic love for her, the mask he wears and not metaphorically 🤪 The spice is strong with this pair, unhinged, chaotic, pain and pleasure are on their shopping list.
Eva’s writing is descriptive and flows well, yes, there were a few errors that I had to re-read but that’s what makes authors human like the rest of us. I would definitely say give it a read, it’s dark and depraved, they are step siblings whose relationship is strong.

So fucking dark and hot but also sweet!

This book was filthy and so fucking hot. The spice was immaculate, kinks galore, and not only that, but the connection between Shiloh and Kaleb. Eva manages to imbue humor into her darkest books, and I’m all here for it. I’m giggling while he rolls people inside rugs? Yeah, so what, sue me. The man is sarcastic and hilarious without trying!
“Every second I spent in that place was worth it because you were worth it. Still are and always will be."
He’s so fucking unhinged I love him. Kaleb was the perfect dark and mean MMC with a soft spot for Shiloh. A small soft spot, because he knew that she wanted him raw, rough, and mean, too. He was dark, really dark, and so obsessed that it made me giddy. This man hunted you after being apart for years. I am obsessed with him, and it's okay. I won't tell Shiloh because she would kill me.
"You're the only emotion I ever want to feel."
Shiloh made me happy. She reciprocated his obsession from the get-go, but she was so scared of people taking Kaleb away that she was resisting him. Also, her brainwashing was a little bump to overcome, but Kaleb knew what to do...and I loved it. Once she trusted that Kaleb wouldn't let himself get caught again, she let herself be the little psycho that he knew was there from the beginning, and her being his accomplice made me love this book ten times more.
"Take it like the good girl you are. Suck me. Baby. Fuck. You break down so pretty for me. You-Jesus—you're a beautiful mess. Mine. Mine."
One thing I wanted was better communication, but it fits the character that Kaleb won’t share, so even if it frustrated me, it was needed.
I also loved how it highlighted the fact that the attraction didn’t start until he saw her pictures when she turned 18. Their relationship as step-siblings when they were 11 and 15 was just that, a connection still, but never sexual.

This book has lots of dark themes and gore, and was an interesting one time read but definitely not for me. I didn’t mind the blood but the characters were depraved, masochistic and sadistic - and crossed some lines which I wasn’t personally comfortable with.

now THIS is how you bring horror & romance together.
i love the dual POV because being able to be in both of their heads absolutely depends the story, especially with Kaleb.
i really enjoyed watching Shiloh’s character grow over the course of the story. i was hooked from the beginning!
this is a very dark romance, there was a great balance of the romance aspect and the dark aspect and they were absolutely AMAZING when they happened together. it really did feel like a movie in my head when i was reading, everything around me just faded out because of the descriptive writing. i felt every single emotion that these characters did. this is like the perfect book to read during halloween tbh.

I couldn’t put this down. So good! You had me at me at mental institution, serial killer, and obsessive love interest. Loved the story. I mostly read horror, so I really appreciate when someone mixes elements from both genres! Please tell me why in my head, I just picture Kaleb looking like Richard Ramirez 🤣

This book was actually cooked. This is my first Eva Marks book and honestly I loved it. Don’t get me wrong, this shit was wild, I’ve read some dark stuff in my time, but this was graphic and unhinged. Honestly I don’t even think that describes it, and for some reason having a serial killer/step brother being completely obsessed and devoted to you felt so wholesome 😂😂😂 will definitely be reading more from this fantastic author! 🖤

What did I just read???? I went into the book blind, only picked it as it had higher ratings. It is seriously F-ed up. I can honestly say that I've never read anything like it. I am thinking about checking out another one of the author's books just to see if they are similar to this one.

Everything about this book was terrible IMO. I'm not sure how it has so many high ratings, because this book was cringey and overall, messed up.
I'm a dark romance girlie. Like pitch black kind of dark. While I wasn't against all the triggers in the book, I felt like the author didn't execute them well. How am I supposed to fall in love with a literal psychopath who still has thoughts of snapping the FMC's neck when he already said he loved her?!? Also, the communication in this book was terrible. The FMC would try to talk to the MMC, and he would shut her up by hurting her and boinking her. While I get that the FMC had a pain kink, it got repetitive and I felt like nothing was accomplished.
Now for the ebook format. It DROVE ME NUTS! I'm not sure if it was done the way it was for more pages to be read, but I got to the point that a lot was skimmed. The author would write maybe 1 or 2 sentences and then change paragraphs. Not even when the characters are speaking, but for every little thing. Here's a couple of passages for examples...
"His mask. This isn’t a meltdown. Isn’t a panic attack.
This is longing. This is pain.
This is a sick kind of love no one should ever feel. Not for their stepbrother. Not for a murderer. Not for a man they haven’t talked to in eleven years.
It is what it is. A vile desire.
This is hell.
I slide the closet door shut."
Or..........
"No, Kaleb isn’t there.
But I do feel him. I do.
My savior.
Sick, my father’s voice taunts.
My stepbrother, I answer. Murderer. He’s escaped, and he’ll kill you next. The only person who ever believed me.
Psychopath.

What is this?!? Poetry stanzas?!?!? These are just 2 examples of how the entire book is formatted. Sure there are some longer paragraphs, but this is the dominant formatting. I almost did a DNF based on the formatting alone.🤮
