The Artist in the Garden: The Quest for Moses Tladi

Rate this book
Like Monet, who was his first inspiration, Moses Tladi was a gardener and an artist. It is not known how he encountered Herbert Read, but in the mid 1920's he found employment in Johannesburg as gardener to Read. Read took Tladi under his wing, and introduced him to the collector and philanthropist Howard Pim. This book tells his story.

Great coffee table book. This was my first art book purchase. It's about the life & times of South African landscape painter - Moses Tladi - a contemporary of Hendrick Pierneef. His work is an embodiment of Black Excellence in fine art.
