I love me a Harper read! Full of angst, emotional turmoil, incredible characters, fabulous plot, awesome world building, action packed, they're wonderfully engaging, fast paced reads. And highly entertaining! And good glory was this an "I can hardly swallow" read! Sooooo strikingly dramatic!
True to form, Ms Brooks dives right in with anxiety overload. As Sophia in Golden Girls says, "picture this", Mandi, the teenage daughter of the alpha, can't shift. Not because she doesn't want to, she's unable to, has never shifted, much to the distress of her powerful father. As such, she's pretty much the outsider, a disappointment to her father, trying to ignore the whispers Not an ideal situation. Not able to handle the hurt, the rejection, she runs. Straight into a stranger. Who's been bitten. Who's now no longer a human. This is only the prologue and already my adrenaline was spiking! It takes a turn for the worst, much worse. As the saying goes, "it's only just begun" and boy oh boy, did I go on a rollercoaster ride!
Mandi finds herself hold up a cell, captured by vampires. And then the calvary arrive! I was jumping with joy when RJ and Aimee saved the day! Or saved Mandi anyway! I adore these two badassed witches, who we got to meet, properly, in book 1 of this series. Even though all the books are standalones, there are "cross characters" who pop in, and I loved seeing them in all their awesomeness again. In a world where shifters, vamps, witches, or any other supernaturals, don't see eye to eye, don't trust the other, constantly "ar war", Mandi has true friends in both departments. Witches and vamps, who, like her, want unity and to respect the differences.
Mandi, the ever accomodating, ever compliant, is so full of insecurities, of feelings of inadequacy, of feelings of being a burden to her family, to her pack. Immensely gut wrenching to witness, I felt her in my bones. This author a character she creates, lovingly crafts said character, exposing their flaws, their strength with each caress, molding them into someone I root for, someone I want to jump in and rescue, someone I want to hug and love...She gives them depth and layers, as Grayson said to Mandi, “There’s more to you than what you can do for someone else." from Grayson's mouth, right to my soul.
Grayson is another phenomenally layered character, he's the bit one I mentioned at the beginning. He doesn't let anything or anyone get him down, not even the inevitably of turning feral. Because, bit, remember? His entire stance is gentle and kind and super protective of Mandi, constantly propping her up, kindness oozing from every pore. Except where Mandi's wellbeing is at risk. My word did my heart stutter when he changed, my word did the tension escalate to combustion levels! Ms Brooks paints an engaging picture of it all! Of course, there are the proverbial assays, namely Jrue, who first comes across as though butter wouldn't melt in his mouth and them....yes ... the butter curdled... I really love how this author sucks me in, I really like being kept at the edge of my seat, I really like not being sure how and what will happen. I really REALLY like this book!
Unlike most of Harper's books, this one is not spicy, at all, but the innuendos, the yearning, the passion, infiltrates through the pages, warming me from head to toe with the purity of a fledgling love, with the beauty of unconditional love, with the "rightness" of found family. This book is a true coming of age, a true account of how friends and found family ARE a real thing and of how one can overcome almost anything with the right person by your side, with true support. And Mandi soared!

This third book in this series follows on pretty much where the second one, Basically Vampires, finished with Mandi being rescued from the vampires' prison by the bitten werewolf, Greyson. After a mad dash across the city, they meet back up with the witches Aimee and RJ, who we also met in the previous two books. I love how these books have intertwined with each other, with the characters joining back together to continue each new story arc.
Werewolves, vampires and witches generally do not mix and rarely get along, but this group of six work so well together, each with their own strengths which add to the mission at hand. The focus this time, though, is on Mandi and Greyson. Mandi is the moon locked daughter of the alpha of the Ironwood Pack - something that she has to hide as it would cause too much embarrassment for her father for everyone to know that she cannot shift into her wolf. Greyson is a bitten werewolf, bitten by a moon-mad wolf and saved by Mandi. They are determined to find a cure for all the moon-mad wolves before a war breaks out between the vampires and wolves, but it's no easy task.
With the help of Aimee and RJ and Lacey and Colt, the dhampirs turned full vampires from the previous book, they race across the country following whatever leads they can to find a cure. Fighting for their lives constantly against outsiders and against the moon madness, it becomes a race against time before its too late to save either Greyson or Mandi.
This was a fun read with lots of action and a touch of romance. Mandi was a meek and mild character, so used to being told what to do and when to do it, but grew throughout this book. She became stronger, started to think more for herself, stood up for herself eventually and surprised me at the end with the big fight against the moon mad wolves attack on her pack. Greyson was perfect for her!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series from this new to me author and glad I picked this one up as an ARC from BookSprout. Thank you Harper for a fun series to read! Although you technically could read this one without having read the other two, it makes much more sense and completes the overriding story much better if you read them all!

I was exhausted after finishing this book! Man, what a thrill ride. The action never lets up and the clock is ticking throughout the entire book. Moonlocked werewolf Mandi Thornton is the daughter of the Ironwood pack. Her father, the alpha, has hidden the truth of her condition from everyone, including Jrue, the wolf he betrothed her to as a child. Grayson Scott is a newly bitten werewolf, attacked by a mad wolf infected with the strange moon madness that is threatening wolf communities in their area. When Grayson accidentally bites Mandi during his first turn, she too is infected. Their only hope is a miracle cure that their friends the witches are pursuing, supposedly found by a mysterious shaman.
This book is the third in the Supernaturals in Training series by Harper A. Brooks. We see the reappearance of the two witch sisters, RJ and Aimee, and the vampire couple, Lacey and Colt, from the earlier books. All 6 must work together to find the cure, while being pursued by hunters, vampires and Mandi’s wolf pack. These are all well drawn and multi-faceted characters that are fun to read about.
I loved Mandi as the FMC, she has a sweetness that resists the bitterness of spending years as a second class wolf. Grayson has to deal with his new werewolf-hood and the disease that is slowly killing him while turning him into a monster. He is an absolute cinnamon roll and I loved him. The twists and turns seem insurmountable, but they do get the start of an HEA and the book closes out the trilogy nicely. All in all, a highly recommended read for YAs and older readers that like low-spice paranormal adventures.

Nearly werewolves can be read on its own, but there is a small bit of backstory that helps to know from the previous books. At least in the beginning of the story, anyway, since it begins with Mandi a prisoner of the vampires. While she doesn’t stay a prisoner for long, she does question if she’s going mad from her captivity, and spiral over her helplessness due to being moon locked. She’s sure if she wasn’t, she wouldn’t be in this situation. But I digress.
There is a lot of action in this story, and a light sprinkle of spice. Which makes sense since our Main Characters are racing against the clock. Mandi has essentially taken a bitten wolf under her wing. Finding him shortly after he was bitten by a moon mad wolf, she’s determined to help him, and find a cure for the moon madness plaguing the wolves. Her Alpha father has shunned Grayson, and refuses to help. Which means Mandi is on her own in her hunt for a cure. Unfortunately that comes with its own dangers. And since she can’t shift those dangers are increased many times over.
Racing against the clock, fighting her own wants with what’s expected of her from her pack, keeping her secret of being moon locked, and dealing with attacks from moon mad wolves, rogue vampires, and a seemingly random man with a gun, and Mandi and Grayson have barely any time to breathe. But life waits for no one, secrets can be dangerous for everyone, and the clock is running out on Graysons madness. Will they figure out a cure? And will it be in time to save those she cares about?

Mandi is a liar and a people pleaser, but what else can I expect from the moonlocked daughter of the Ironwood pack Alpha? Mandi has always done as she was told and gave away too much of herself, getting very little in return. I felt a little bad for her, but Mandi was frustrating. There was no progression with her. Mandi needed growth, but that didn't happen until the very end. As for the MMC, Greyson, from the glimpses I got of his personality outside the moon-madness, he was a good guy with the worst luck. Nevertheless, he stayed by Mandi's side, and she stayed by his. This wasn't your typical romance. Things were extremely light on that note. It was a 'will they, won't they' situation, and honestly, it could have gone either way.
The story was good. We kind of jumped right in where Basically Vampire ended, right in the thick of it. From there, it was Mandi and Greyson jumping from one ridiculous situation to another. The part that had the most potential was the search for the cure. I like a circus story normally, but make it into a supernatural circus, and I'm in automatically. Nearly Werewolves by Harper A. Brooks surprised me in the best way. What starts as a story about not fitting in quickly turns into something deeper—about identity, fear, and learning to stand in your own power even when the world (and your own instincts) tell you you’re not enough.
Mandi being “moonlocked”—a werewolf without a wolf—was such a unique and emotional hook. Instead of the usual strong, confident shifter, we get someone carrying quiet shame and constantly feeling like she’s falling short of who she’s supposed to be. That struggle felt incredibly real, and I appreciated how the story handled it with care instead of glossing over it.
Her connection with Grayson added a layer of warmth and relatability. They both exist on the outside of what their world expects, and that shared “otherness” made their bond feel genuine and grounding. It’s the kind of relationship that reminds you how important it is to have even one person who truly sees you.
What I loved most, though, was the underlying message: power doesn’t always look the way we think it should. Sometimes it’s messy, sometimes it’s hidden, and sometimes it’s something we’re afraid to face. Watching that unfold—especially with the looming danger of the moon madness and the pressure from the packs—kept me hooked the entire time. Another great addition to this series.

Nearly Werewolves is the third book in the Supernaturals in Training. It picks up where book 2 left off whit the FMC's from book 1 on a rescue mission for their friend with the help from the main characters from book 2. I love how Miss Brooks includes all of the main characters from book 1 and 2 with the new main characters in book 3 to complete the story. I found it to be fast paced and full of action.
I loved the FMC.. with how she was caring when when her friend was injured. She wouldn't take no for an answer... She kept on going no matter how tired she became. I also found her to be strong willed and very full of angst towards her father for good reason.
The MMC I liked from the get go, I found him to be strong willed and protective of the FMC. Even injured he did his best to protect the woman he was beginning to have feelings for. He has dreams and goals that he wants to complete.
I loved seeing the Witches from book one and the Vampires from book two. The author was amazing using them as they complete the story line perfectly. I found seeing them again to be a wonderful surprise.
So, if you love a Handsome MMC, Caring and Protective Mates, A Strong FMC, Vampires, Magical Cures and Witches then you need to read this series as it has it all.

Nerely Werewolves: Supernatural In Training Book 3 by Harper A Brooks is an exciting young adult paranormal romance. Mandi, a born werewolf and the alpha's daughter is different; she's moonlocked, unable to shift into her wolf. So when she comes across Grayson in the woods, after he was bit, she's determined to help. However she fears he was bitten by a moon mad wolf, and is cursed as well. This sets them on an action fuel adventure to find a cure. With the aid of some friends, 2 sisters that are witches and 2 recently turned vampires, they travel in search of a shaman rumored to know of a cure. Can they survive the search for the cure and with all their sacrifices is it even worth it without a guarantee?
I really enjoyed this book and was hooked from the start. Its fast-pace filled with action kept me engaged until the very end. It's a perfect low heat, no spice for young adults that want a little age appropriate romance. There is definitely chemistry between Mandi and Grayson, but can it survive her family,the curse, and the cure? If you enjoy stories with Werewolves, witches, vampires, magic, curses, action in a realistic contemporary setting then you'll enjoy Nerely Werewolves.

Mandi, the daughter of the Alpha is unable to shift into her wolf, called moonlocked. Her father cares more about being the alpha of the Ironwood pack and the status of it station, then what Mandi needs. They have had to maintain the secret all of Mandi’s life. Mandi has always deferred to the wishes of her father and the pack, never wanting anything for herself. As Mandi becomes infected with the moon-mad disease along with Grayson. As the vampires Lacey and Colt work with them and the witches RJ and Aimee to find a cure. Their quest for the cure takes them into many dangerous situations even to her father hiring a hunter to take down the moon-mad infected wolves. Along the way Mandi is learning about herself and her needs and what she wants out of life. One is she does not want to be mated to Jrue who cares more about being alpha then he cares about Mandi. As they race for a cure for the moon-mad disease to save Grayson and Mandi along with all the other wolves that have been turned. Can Mandi and her father resolve years of no communication? Can Mandi unable to shift help save her pack? Can they save Grayson? Just what kind of cure can save the moon-mad wolves?

This is the third in an exciting YA supernatural series and I feel like it let's the other ones down a little. Not because it's bad but I feel like a bit of the plot was a stretch and so felt forced. Mandi's guilt about Grayson makes absolutely no sense and has no merit whatsoever but it's basically what the whole book is built around and that's the thing that let it all down. She wasn't the one who bit him and gave him the moon madness (which was the worst thing to happen to him) so why did she carry so much guilt when she's the only one who ever stood by him, it boggled my mind the whole time as that theme ran centrally throughout the whole story. But other than that huge plot hole, the rest of the story is like the other book with RJ/Aimee and Colt/Lacey, non stop action, lots of magic, terrifying and very committed villains and never a dull moment for our leads to get a moment of useful rest. I recommend this one for actual YA to read if they aren't deep thinkers/read-between-the-liners like us older readers.

On the hunt to get a cure for the moon madness, Mandi was captured and imprisoned by the vampires. Her witch friends got her out, and Grayson tracked her too to help with her rescue. On the run, Grayson and Mandi separate from the witches, and both of them are hunted not only by the mad wolves, but also by a hunter. The story focuses on Mandi's POV - her thoughts and feelings, during captivity, discovering that Grayson is infected by the madness, she getting infected when he bites her as he shifts for the first time, being dragged back home to her pack that does not care about her feelings and true identity, and on the trip to the vampire circus to get information from the shaman about the cure.
The plot is straightforward, steadily developing as the story unfolds. I had quite the fun at the moment the group met the shaman. The romance between Grayson and Mandi is really slow burn, but it gives Mandi the necessary times to come to terms with herself, stand up for herself, and understand her true emotions. Happy for the HEA!

The romance between Grayson and Mandi is really slow burn, but it gives Mandi the necessary times to come to terms with herself, stand up for herself, and understand her true emotions. Nearly Werewolves picks up right where the last book left off, and I loved how everything came together, wolves, vampires, and witches all teaming up for one chaotic, high-stakes mission. This time the focus is on Mandi and Greyson as they try to find a cure for the moon-madness while basically running for their lives.
Mandi definitely frustrated me at times, she’s such a people pleaser and it takes her a while to really grow but I did like seeing her finally start standing up for herself by the end. Greyson, on the other hand, was easy to root for from the start: loyal, protective, and just a genuinely good guy dealing with some terrible luck.
One of my favorite parts of this series is how all the characters from the previous books come back and actually matter to the story; it makes everything feel connected and more exciting. There’s lots of action, some lighter romance, and a solid wrap-up to the overall storyline. Definitely worth reading the whole series to get the full experience.

I love this author and this one definitely delivered on the angst. Mandi broke my heart a little. Being the alpha’s daughter and not being able to shift? The pressure, the shame, the feeling like she’s not enough… yeah I felt ALLLLL of that.
Grayson was such a soft spot for me. He’s dealing with his own mess but still shows up for her in a way no one else does. Their dynamic is more quiet and emotional than anything super intense, but it works. It feels real.
The story kept me hooked. There’s danger, running, trying to find a cure, all while everything feels like it’s closing in on them. I liked that it focused a lot on Mandi figuring herself out, not just the romance.

Harper A Brooks always pulls me into their stories and keeps me on the edge of my seat the entire ride! Their ability to make me feel every emotion from angst to happiness is like no other! We are well into this series and I am really enjoying it. I love the concept and find it to be unique and creative. The characters are really well done, the growth and relationship development we see is really well done and I've really enjoyed getting to know them even more as they adapt and adjust to the changes in their lives. The world building is phenomenal , I really appreciate the attention to detail. I really quite liked how the story progressed in this instalment, the action, drama and suspense kept me fully engaged until the last page ( maybe some anxiety sweats too !), Mandi and Grayson’s journey has been a wild one so far and I am looking forward to more!

As the story begins, we learn that Mandi, the Alpha's oldest daughter has never shifted and is suspected of being moon locked. The only ones aware of her woofless state are Mandi and her parents. In the mean time, Mandi discovers Grayson, a human, was bitten by a wolf and helps nurse him back to health. When her father, the Alpha, kicks him out, Mandi runs away, vowing to find Grayson and a cure for moon madness. Unfortunately, things don't go as smoothly as naive and sheltered Mandi envisions. This page turner is full of intrigue, action, plot twists, and of course romance.

The third book of the series but is easily read as a standalone. Mandi is a werewolf and her father is the alpha of the pack. Life should be good, but one big secret has been held over her. Her parents forced her to her to hide her secret and make her feel like a problem and not a daughter. Grayson is the bitten wolf that will change it all. The two will find danger at every turn as they try to find the cure for his moon madness that will take him over soon and to end her own curse. Thankfully some friends will come to save the day. Who knew wolves, vampires and witches could make such a good team. The story is filled with action and some romance. The characters are great and I love seeing the return of the main characters from the previous stories.

Book 3 in the Supernaturals in training series but could also be read as a standalone but has retuning characters from previous books so I recommend reading the first 2 in the series.

Harper is at it again. I absolutely adore this series if standalones. The author gave great characters, the angst was fan-tas-tic, just the right amount of emotional damage. And I do love that it was a quick read (this girl is tired of adulting some days and this book was a great break from that). I was sitting on the edge of my seat while I was reading it & I’m only sad I had to stop and adult along the way so I didn’t have time to read it in one sitting. Not spicy, but I love how much I didn’t miss it. HB does YA/ND well and I will forever read her books as a one click purchase. I loved seeing the characters from the past two books and following the same story line even though they’re technically “standalone”. Can’t wait to see what the author gives us next.

I enjoyed this book. Mandi is a character who has spent her whole life doing what everyone else wanted, while hiding a secret that could change everything. When Grayson becomes sick, she is determined to help him, even when things in her own life are falling apart.
I liked watching Mandi grow throughout the story and start standing up for herself. The friendships were one of my favourite parts of the book. No matter what happened, they were there for each other and worked together to find a way forward.
The story has werewolves, witches, vampires, adventure, friendship, and a little romance. It is an easy read with plenty happening and characters you want to see succeed. Overall, it was an enjoyable story about friendship, loyalty, and finding the strength to do what is right.

Mandi is a shifter, who can’t shift. They call it moon locked. After years of feeling less than to everyone around her and holding the burden of her moon locked secret, she decides to venture off on her own. Here she meet newly bitten Grayson, who unfortunately had a run in with a moon mad wolf. The sickness spreads fast and if they are lucky they might be able to find the cure before they are truly lost to it. I’d say this was more of a young adult book with more emphasis on the action of it all than the romance, although there is a tiny bit of that. I’m more of a spicy romance type of person but this was cute. I recommend for readers looking for a lighter read.

This is the 3rd book in the series, but you don't have to read the other 2 before this one. I think I would've understood some parts at the very beginning a little better if I had read the other 2 books, but it's not vital.

The characters were very complex and compelling and complicated. Plot was intriguing and intense and exciting and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Super cute, and definitely made for a younger audience, but a good storyline. Our main protagonist, is Mandi is moon locked, which means she can't shift. Now, being the daughter of the Alpha really throws that into the realm of "bad." Her father struggles finding the balance, but focuses on the lie. Bit that's not the only thing lying in wait. Moon madness, the feral wolves with no thought or stopping point come into the equation.
This book throws you in to a the depth of family, but always a family you can create yourself. If you like werewolves, action, and family drama, this book is for you. 😉

Fantastic
This is the third book of Supernaturals in Training and once again I was hooked start to finish. These are standalone stories so you don't have to have read the first two but characters from them are involved in this story. This time we have the story of Mandi and Grayson. She is a werewolf who can't shift and he has been bitten by one. They are racing against time to find a cure for a madness that is effecting werewolves and has passed to them. I love the relationship between them. The pacing of the story is great and full of action. Harper A Brooks has once again written a great story.

Mandi and Grayson made for a fantastic world! The story dives in from the first page, and I really enjoyed that. I immediately felt for Mandi and her freeze response. RJ and Aimee also appear in this book, and I was so happy to see these bad*ss witches again! Grayson was a phenomenal character, and immediately made me want to help him. I love his chemistry with Mandi, and how this was more of a slow burn, not super spicy. It focuses more on the emotional side of the story, with a fantastic plot with tons of action that kept me guessing. Also loved seeing Lacey and Colt again! All the characters are awesome tbh. Amazing read.

Mandi has spent her whole life being told to lie. As a moon-locked first daughter of the Alpha, her issue would ruin his reputation and their life they set up in Ironwood. Mandi is always looking out for everyone else and that seems to get her in trouble. The book picks up from the last one with her trapped by the vampires. After a breakout, run in the woods and cabin adventure, she's back where she started with Grayson. As they try to find the cure for moon-madness, she's also learning about herself and her wants. I enjoyed the other characters being a part of their story since they were all interconnected.

I just love reading about werewolves. I devour anything with them really. I was so ready for Nearly Werewolves, not saying I did not enjoy the previous two, but I love werewolves. Nearly Werewolves was everything I expected and more. So you can read this as a stand a lone or you can read this in order, like I recommend.

Enjoyable story! Like the premise of being born a werewolf, but not being able to shift. That would be Mandi who is moon locked. There’s a moon-madness scenario that’s a fun one too; a bit of adventure and mystery while a cure is searched for. That would be Grayson that’s dealing with the moon-madness. These two are in some very difficult starting positions at the beginning of this book, but when they begin working together, that’s when things start coming together. There’s a nice connection between Grayson and Mandi too; a pinch light on the romance, but I still really like the dynamic between them. Overall, an entertaining story with good action!
