A spark ignites a flame that could burn down everything they hold dear.

Contrary to her name, Patience Abbott has long felt unsettled and anxious to leave behind her painful memories in England for a fresh start in America. But her new life isn’t quite what she expected, and as tension grows in her new home of Boston, so does the distance between Patience and her estranged father. So when Josiah Wagner walks into her life, it finally feels like she’s not alone. If only his patriotic leanings didn’t put him at odds with her father’s loyalties.

Josiah Wagner has spent his life yearning for a true home and family, something he works toward each day, forging tools as a blacksmith, and each night, forging plans with the Sons of Liberty. But when the destruction of tea in Boston Harbor lights the spark of the Revolution, Josiah finds himself drawn into its tumultuous wake, pulling the woman he loves along with him.

As tensions mount, will their search for belonging lead to each other, or will the obstacles between them be too great to overcome? In a land on the brink of war, can they find the home they seek in the One who calls them His own?

"What if your scars have brought you exactly where God wants you to be?"

My favorite in the series so far! Very well done--I couldn't put it down and had no idea how things were going to turn out. A. beautiful way to learn the history of Boston during the time of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Highly recommended Christian fiction.

The Revolutionary War time period is my favorite to read from. The birth of our wonderful country, a conflict won with the sweat, blood, and tears of countless men and women who sacrificed so much for freedoms we enjoy everyday. I’m one of those people who tear up every time I hear The Star Spangled Banner (unless Fergie is singing it). So any time I get the opportunity to read a historical fiction that incorporates real-life events and people into a story that immerses me in the thick of things, I’m here for it.

Scars of the Revolution is the third book in Megan’s Harbor Spies series. While it can be read as a standalone with no problem, I highly recommend the first two books since they are so wonderful.

I loved Libby’s and Isaac’s story! Acquainted and friends for years, their relationship looks different when she is a patriot and he is the British soldier quartered in her home. It explores the strains on love and friendship when your loyalties are tested and divided. But my favorite part of the story is the tragedy the befalls Isaac and his journey of healing and faith.

A sweet and tender slow burn, forbidden romance blooming among the uncertainties of war. History brought to life in a most beautiful way.

Thank you to the author for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. — 2 CORINTHIANS 12:9

The Race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but the God of Israel is He that giveth strength and power to His people. ~Abigail Adams 📚☕

Scars of the Revolutions is book #3 in the Harbor of Spies series. Highly, highly, highly recommend reading books 1 and 2 because they are incredible, but this one can definitely be read as a stand alone (you’ll want to read the first two once you get started, trust me).

The historically accurate tellings of how the war is intensifying is heartwrenching (but done in the gentlest way possible - Megan Soja is amazing). My sensitive self certainly appreciates how she shares what has to be said without saying too much. 💙

📚 poignant plotlines
📚incredible faith content
📚 hard realities of caring for others on both sides of a war

Triggers: descriptions of war, death, physical injuries of war, soldiers being treated for injuries

I am blessed to have received an advanced reader copy directly from the author for the January 6th release date, and my opinions are fully my own. I will gladly purchase my own paperback on release day!

This is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the previous ones so I don’t know if there are reoccurring characters or not but I think it’s safe to say you don’t need to read the previous ones to enjoy this one. The Christian content in this book is excellent! I really loved how much Christian content was included. Isaac is a British soldier and Libby is more on the patriot side. She has loved him for years but now things are complicated. I liked both of these characters. They both had tough choices to make throughout the book. More complications arise towards the end that threaten their relationship but I won’t say what due to spoilers. I also really liked Libby’s mom. Overall, a great story and I recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Content: death, battle injuries

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I have enjoyed each book in the Harbor of Spies series and was especially looking forward to this one after meeting Libby and Isaac in the previous two stories. I wasn't sure how these "star-crossed lovers" could possibly find a way to be together, and I remained unsure for most of the book. There just didn't seem any way! I did not guess the ending and found it very satisfying.

I'm sure it's a sign that I'm getting older, but I found myself particularly identifying with Libby's mother, as she tried to guide her emotional and impulsive daughter with both truth and love. Each of the side characters felt well-fleshed out and compelling in their own right.

Megan Soja offers a great gift to readers, especially in this 250th year of American Independence. Throughout the series, but especially in Scars of the Revolution, she shows both perspectives of the War for Independence, as well as some of the many reasons people chose the side that they did and the morally quandaries they faced because of it. A truly enjoyable read with heart, depth, romance, and faith!

Since reading the first two books in the series, I have eagerly anticipated Libby’s story!

Scars of the Revolution picks up pretty much where the last book ended, which I appreciated! I loved getting to know Libby and Isaac better even though they had to face some tough stuff. War is such a painful thing, and secrets can also be hurtful. I wasn’t sure how things would pan out, but I enjoyed the journey, the way the characters grew, and the end.

This whole series is fantastic. I think you could read this as a stand alone, but it’s even more enjoyable read in order.

I have been wanting to check out Megan Soja's Historical Fiction for quite a while and when the opportunity to be on her launch team for this arc came up I decided to jump in. This book has persuaded me to read the other two books in this series so I will say this opportunity was well worth it. This story is an important part of American history so it would be great if everyone took thr time for read it.

We are introduced to Libby and that war has continued wage on. She and her mother have been keeping a British soldier in there home Issac who is actually a very good friend of her deceased father. Both of them harbor strong romantic feelings for each other but with the war and their stations in life such matters are impossible to think beyond dreaming.

Will Issac and Libby be able to persue something that will last a lifetime or will the war tear them apart?

Megan is a new-to-me author, and I am a huge fan now! I will be reading books 1 and 2 from this series in the future.

This book is so well-written and can be read as a stand alone, that's how I read it. I really enjoyed this book. The 1775 time period and American Revolution are not written about enough in fiction. Thank God for all the amazing people who fought for our freedoms. We should never forget our country's history.

So, about that gorgeous cover... that beautiful dress, so pretty! This story pulls you in from the beginning, and the main characters become so real to you. Their love story has its ups and downs because of him being a soldier in the Kings army, and she a Patriot. It was interesting to learn about the siege and some of the fights and battles that went on during that time.

I'm so thankful that Jesus was at the center of the story and not just a passing thought here or there. This book was such a good reminder that He is always with us and working on things that we have no idea about or no control over. During hard times and suffering, your faith can grow so much when you trust God, especially when things seem dark. Thank God that He's our light in the darkness.

I highly recommend this book, and I am excited to read the other books in the series!

Thank you so much to the author for the complimentary ARC. These opinions are all my own.

"We all bear scars of some sort, whether visible or hidden far beneath the surface. But instead of seeing the loss and sorrow in them, what if there is good that comes as a result? What if your scars have brought you exactly where God wants you to be?"

Have you ever finished a book, and wished you had the time to go back and reread it immediately? This was my reaction to reading an ARC of Megan Soja’s latest Revolutionary War era novel, Scars of the Revolution, Book three of her series, Harbor of Spies. It is so delicious to my reading palate. I must admit I have read book two, but missed book one. But with that background and enough small references in this novel, I had no trouble following the action.

My heart yearned for Libby Caldwell. Always close to her now-deceased doctor father, she becomes infatuated with the British soldier, Lt. Isaac Harrison, who had developed a close friendship with her father. When Harrison returns a few years after her father’s death, he finds himself billeting at the Caldwells to protect the doctor’s widow and his now-grown daughter.

The novel provides plenty of tension as we see the conflict between the colonists and the British heat up from disagreement to actual conflict. Libby and Harrison, aided by proximity, fight their growing attraction for each other as their loyalties are firmly opposed. Sometimes, they are able to see past their differences. Picking up his uniform coat, Libby tells Isaac, “Because this alone is not who you are.” “How he wanted her words to be true, that he would be defined not by his position in the army but by who he was as a man.” Obvious evidences of love (obvious to everyone but theirselves) are overshadowed by duty, alliances, and secrets. My heart felt like it was being torn in two so many times. And putting myself in each of their shoes- could I have made different decisions?

But God enters the story often and so well. Libby’s father was a firm believer who knew how to share his faith. His words, posthumously, greatly affect both Libby and Isaac. Can I have a fave unalive character?! And Libby’s mom is another fave character. She quietly supports her daughter, but isn’t afraid to gently challenge or confront her, when the need arises. “…pray first. Do not act on emotions alone, for they are not to be trusted. Seek God’s guidance and listen to Him, above all else.” Faith is a very present element of this book. The setting may be centuries old, but the Truths are so applicable today!

Soja writes knowledgeably of the siege of Boston and proves she did her homework well. The reader is sure to learn more history than what they knew before starting the book! ( I love books that do that well!) And Soja throws in twists, and enough glimpses of other characters that I am begging for book four ASAP! This family/friend saga is not over!

I received a copy of the book from the author and Celebrate Lit. PI also preordered my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“Tis a sacrifice of some sort with either decision. Be it duty or rebellion, in both there is something to gain, and something to lose.” - Isaac

“…church is not the only place to meet with God. God is just as present with you in your everyday life as He is within those walls.” - Mrs. Abbott

“I have found ’tis in the hardest times, when God has seemed utterly incomprehensible, that my faith has grown the most. For in those struggles, He has shown me that it is not my grasp of Him that matters, but rather His hold on me.” - Libby’s mother

I loved this newest addition to Megan Soja’s Harbor of Spies series. Scars of the Revolution follows Patience and Will’s stepsister Libby while she and her mother are trapped in Boston during the occupation following Lexington and Concord. She endeavors to try to be useful and pursue God’s will despite life looking nothing like she’s used to. She’s also battling her feelings for Lieutenant Harrison- the British officer quartering in their home and her late father’s friend. But as much as she tries to convince herself there’s no possible way to span their differences, her heart refuses to comply.

I so enjoyed the spin this story takes, taking a hard look at loyalty, duty, and especially God’s will. The history surrounding the occupation, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and revolutionary espionage is incredibly fascinating. It is well-researched and seamlessly integrated into the story. Experiencing the battle from Isaac’s point of view was an exceptional choice. Like Libby, the reader honestly sees no possible avenues to happy ever after for her and Isaac, no matter their feelings. But God works all things to the good of those who love Him… and the truly insurmountable odds certainly never anticipated the plot twists coming their way!

Such a truly enjoyable read! I was completely hooked and invested in these characters. While the romance is delightful and the history is superb, I also am learning to value Megan Soja’s books for their depth and how they challenge me in my own faith.

I was so excited to realize we don’t have to say goodbye yet and that there’s a fourth book coming! I am so glad because I definitely need Elijah’s story!

An excellent story not only for all the wonderful spiritual elements, mentions of God, prayer, and trusting him even when all seems so dark but for the insight into that era. I don't usually read as much earlier than the 1800s but with the well deserved reviews about her books, I veered off to try one of hers as well. This was a first but won't be a last for this new to me author as I was so pleased indeed.

I learned more about the American revolution as I enjoy discovering more aspects in whatever possible. Governing without representation wasn't a fair way nor is it ever. It made me ponder how through the ages there have always been those who are courageous with the resistance to unjust treatments and willing to bravely fight for the right to freedom; even lay down their lives for others in this quest. With that there has also always been those who will go to any lengths of course to deny that very freedom and liberty to those ought to enjoy it; causing needless deaths and sorrows++ with expenses incurred trying to ensure the restrictions are enforced. A reflection of human nature with the controllers benefiting while innocents on both sides being affected.

A powerful story that could be recommended for anyone really!

Scars of the Revolution is a touching story of forbidden love. After reading the first two books, I was excited for Libby’s story. Each book gets better, and this one is my favorite of the series.

Libby is a character you can’t help but like and connect with, and I enjoyed Isaac’s perspective too. Seeing the story from both of them, especially because they’re from opposing sides, adds so much depth. The title of the book fits the story perfectly, showing how our scars might lead us right where God wants us to be.

If you enjoy stories where love seems impossible and you wonder how things could possibly work out, you’ll love this book. The layers of faith, hope, and trust are solid and offer a deeply satisfying read.

First Line: Libby Caldwell peered at her reflection in the darkened glass of her bedroom window, hardly recognizing the woman that stared back at her.

“Some scars are born from duty, others from rebellion—theirs were carved by both.”

"What if your scars have brought you exactly where God wants you to be?"

I absolutely love this series! Truly, all three Harbor of Spies books make it to my list of favorites.

As much as I LOVED the first two books in the series, I think Scars of the Revolution might actually be my favorite! It was incredible to have the perspective of a Revolutionary War soldier and learn more about the perspectives of that side of the conflict.

Scars of the Revolution takes place in Boston during the time leading up to and immediately following the Battle of Bunker Hill. The book takes place almost immediately following the end of the last book, Secrets of the Revolution, and follows Libby and Isaac, the British soldier quartering with Libby’s family. Like the other two books in the series, this book also is dual POV–Oh how I love getting both perspectives!

I adored the relationship between Libby and Isaac, and I loved the way the author wove faith throughout this story, especially faith in regards to loss and hardship.

One of my favorite series.

Highly recommend!

Megan Soja’s third novel in the Harbor of Spies series is set during the Siege of Boston and the Battle of Bunker Hill. As the battle between the British and the Patriots continues, Libby Caldwell faces the inner conflict between her patriot beliefs and her growing attraction to Isaac Harrison, a British officer quartering in her home. Can two people on opposite sides of the conflict find a way to have a future together?

The history was well-researched, the love story richly satisfying, the characters well developed, and each central character grows as the story progresses. Themes of faith and trust are seamlessly woven through the whole novel. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. Megan Soja has become an auto order for me! Well done!

You can never go wrong with a Megan Soja book! I was so excited to see that Libby got her own story! And it did not disappoint. Can two people on opposite sides of the war be friends, can they become more than friends? Will the scars they each hold bring them together or tear them apart? Can their scars bring them exactly where God wants them to be? Scars can be a beautiful reminder to keep your trust in God. This book is full of rich history and deep characters. It brings two sides together, battle scars and secrecy and all. The way their story unfolds is so sweet. God truly makes a way!

This is an amazing book! I was so excited to read Libby and Isaac’s story, and it more than satisfied me with the continuation of this series. I loved the history tidbits with the codes and seamstress work (I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t go into it too much) but it was so interesting. I think Isaac and Libby’s relationship is my favorite so far. They both have such reverence and honor for one another, even on opposing sides of the beginning of the Revolution. I highly recommend this book! And the others in the series. If you want to travel through the events of the revolution, this is the series you need!

Scars of the Revolution by Megan Soja is a Christian Historical Romance. It is the third book in the “Harbor of Spies” series. While you probably could read this book on its own, I recommend reading the books in order. Some stories don’t just unfold—they ignite. This one pulls you straight into a world where every glance is dangerous, every secret could be deadly, and every heartbeat is caught between duty and desire.

Set against the charged atmosphere of the Siege of Boston, this sweeping Christian historical romance introduces us to Libby Caldwell, a young woman whose heart has belonged to Isaac Harrison for years. Their bond began innocently, through her late father’s friendship with the British soldier. But now, with Isaac quartered under her roof and the city trembling on the edge of battle, their connection feels anything but innocent—and anything but safe.

Libby knows better than to fall for a man sworn to the King while her world leans toward the Patriot cause. Yet the more time they spend together—sharing quiet moments in candlelit rooms and stolen conversations in the shadow of war—the more impossible it becomes to deny what’s growing between them.

Isaac is just as torn. He never wanted to be a soldier, but honor and family duty have bound him to the British army. Now he carries another weight: protecting the widow and daughter of his late friend. His growing feelings for Libby threaten everything he’s promised to uphold, forcing him to choose between the path laid before him and the pull of a love he never intended to find.

Then the story takes a thrilling turn.

Libby is drawn into a dangerous game of espionage, where a single wrong move could cost lives—and shatter any future she might dream of with Isaac. As secrets pile up and loyalties blur, the tension tightens, and the question becomes painfully clear: How much are they willing to risk for love, for freedom, and for faith?

What makes this novel truly shine is the way it weaves spiritual truth into the heart of the story. Through fear, betrayal, and impossible choices, both characters are gently led back to the One whose love stands higher than nations, armies, and divided allegiances. It’s a powerful reminder that even in the chaos of war, grace can still whisper hope.

✨ Why this book will steal your heart:

A forbidden romance brimming with emotional and spiritual tension

A vivid historical setting that makes Revolutionary-era Boston feel alive

A brave, compassionate heroine and a conflicted, honorable hero

A faith-filled message of surrender, healing, and trust in God’s greater plan

If you love stories where romance collides with history, danger, and deep faith, this is one you’ll want to savor. It’s heartfelt, suspenseful, and beautifully redemptive—perfect for readers who believe the greatest battles are often fought within the heart

If you enjoy Christian Historical Romances, check out Scars of the Revolution by Megan Soja. Also, check out the rest of the “Harbor of Spies” series as well.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Was it truly so simple, and yet so challenging as that? To trust in God's character, His Word, and His promises, and let that be enough? Knowing that her faith was not a guard against trouble, but rather an anchor that tethered her to the only One who stood beyond anything this world could hold, unchanging and eternal. To rest in who He was and be content.

Scars of the Revolution by Megan Soja was a beautiful lesson in trust and faith in God—learning to leave all in the Father's hands. While the story and historical aspects of the book were marvelous, I even more so appreciated the faith-filled depth of the book and the wise lessons Mary imparted to her daughter, as well as the lessons her father taught both Libby and Isaac that resonated even from beyond the grave.

The history in this book was so cleverly weaved into the book, becoming a part of the story and the characters' lives (as it should be), and yet teaching so much. I really enjoyed the details of the happenings between Lexington and Concord and the Battle of Bunker's Hill and the direct aftermath. Megan Soja did a wonderful job showing how all the events may have impacted Bostonians and the surrounding area—Patriots and Tories alike.

I'd been looking forward to Libby's story since the beginning of this series and was not disappointed! The insight into the tender relationship of Mary and Libby was exactly as I hoped it would be, and Megan Soja so well portrayed a good mother's wise guidance and understanding of her daughter's heart. I also thought Libby's relationship with Isaac was portrayed well. Their esteem for each other was indeed impossible to turn to more, and yet, their trust in God and his leading made that very thing possible. However, had they leaned unto their own understanding, their relationship may never have come to fruition.

I appreciated Libby's quiet demeanor and her realization that homemaking can be as important as doing something grand for the cause. Not too often is that written in fiction, and I loved seeing it. I appreciated Isaac's gentlemanlike ways and striving to honor his father throughout the book. Megan Soja wonderfully showed us how a man of character could indeed serve for a time on the British side.

All in all, I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you enjoy Revolutionary War fiction, tender and clean romance, faith, and family. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series! I sense our main characters will have a lot of healing to go through. I received a copy of this book from the author. I was in no way required to post a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Star-Crossed Love Meets Divine Purpose

Scars of the Revolution is Megan’s best book yet. The love story between Isaac and Libby is really beautifully written. It is so satisfying with just the perfect amount of star-crossed love mixed with divine purpose.

The obstacles to their relationship are believable and understandable and yet they are a couple that you will really want to root for.

The spiritual lessons in this book really hit deep. More than once I was in tears and felt that God was speaking to me through the characters. Like Libby, I have found myself wondering if my mistakes have altered God’s plan for me or caused me to miss out on His blessings but as I read this part God was reassuring me that I am exactly where He wants me to be:

“Mama didn’t scold. Instead, she pulled Libby closer. “The book of Proverbs teaches that ‘A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.’ Your choices cannot thwart His plans. I say this not to excuse rash actions, but rather to remind you that nothing can stand in the way of God’s purpose. He will use all things for His glory, and I am convinced that God has a reason for us to be here, whether we understand it fully now or not.”

Another beautiful message from the book that stuck in my heart was this:

“For in those struggles, He has shown me that it is not my grasp of Him that matters, but rather His hold on me.”
How wonderful that God in His goodness never lets us go, even when we wander. He is always that patient Father in love with his children waiting with everlasting kindness for us to turn our faces back to Him.

I loved that I could relate to both Libby and her Mother as I read this book. It was easy to put myself in Libby’s shoes, but as a mother of a teenage girl I can also relate to Mrs. Abbott who loves her daughter unconditionally and wants to shelter her and ultimately see her happy.

As always Megan does a beautiful job of integrating historical facts and events into her story. This book was an almost seamless blend of fact and fiction. Nothing felt forced or contrived. The storyline from the previous books merge into this story well and we’re given satisfying glimpses into the lives of characters that we have grown to care about as the story has progressed.

This book is among my favorites and will be one that I re-read over and over because it was that good! I can’t wait to read the next book and to add the physical copy of this one to my bookshelf!

Scars of the Revolution is the third book in the Harbor of Spies series, but I have only read this one and had no problem following the plot and let me start with saying that I will 100% be reading the first two novels soon!

I know embarrassingly little about this specific time period in America and it’s through books like this one that I learn quite a lot and that I simultaneously am intrigued to learn more. I think if a historical fiction author gets his or her readers interested enough to do their own research, it’s a job well done and this is definitely the case for me here!

I loved the main characters - even though I have to admit it took me a while to distinguish Isaac from Elijah. You might wonder how this could be since they are such different characters, but somehow these names sound very similar (and foreign) to me. Not trying to explain why this was, but I actually had to really concentrate to not confuse these two. Fortunately I finally got to the point where I didn’t have to focus anymore on who was who, which helped my understanding and enjoyment of the story immensely. (In retrospect, I also wonder how I could mix them up, but it’s probably like when a friend talks repeatedly about people you don’t know and until you meet them personally you tend to mix them and their stories together. So I just had to get to know them better!)

But that confusion aside, I really loved Libby and maybe Isaac even more. Their care for each other and their romance was the sweetest. Their love seemed quite impossible. And not in an unnecessarily dramatic way but like I was really wondering how they could be together. It’s a heartachingly sweet forbidden love story and the more I got to know these two, the more I was rooting for them and their happy end.

My favorite part of the story was probably Isaac’s healing journey after his injury and how he found faith in this dark hour. The faith content in this book is absolutely wonderful. It’s a book with Jesus at its center and I loved how real the characters, their faith and sometimes their struggles with it felt. Libby’s mom was also one of my favorite characters, one who very clearly but gently reminded her daughter to pray first and to seek His guidance.

It’s a book I highly recommend to everyone who reads Christian historical fiction and I’m looking forward to catching up on this series until the next book arrives!

“We all bear scars of some sort, whether visible or hidden far beneath the surface. But instead of seeing the loss and sorrow in them, what if there is good that comes as a result? What if your scars have brought you exactly where God wants you to be?”

This is another fantastic story set in the Revolutionary Era. It has forbidden love, forced proximity, strong faith, and interesting history. We get a closer look of the Siege of Boston and the Battle of Bunker Hill (Breed’s Hill).

Libby is brave, compassionate, and devoted (even when she has to keep that devotion hidden). I enjoyed the way Libby handled stumbling into the Patriots espionage. I loved seeing how she brought light into Isaac’s darkness and accepted him as he was. I felt such sympathy for Libby as she battled between her feelings for a British Officer and her Patriotic beliefs. I adored Mrs. Abbot, her support, understanding, and encouragement of Libby was so special. Isaac is dutiful, scarred, and determined. He just wants to protect Libby but is determined not to get too close to her either. His battle against his feelings was strong. I enjoyed seeing the beginnings of the War for Independence through a member of the King’s army’s eyes. I loved the interactions between Libby and Isaac, every one seemed like it just needed a spark to ignite. I loved the growth of both of their faith and the lessons of trusting God even when it’s hard. I loved the reminder that your life has purpose because God has placed you where (and when) He wants you.

A few more quotes:
“God, I don’t know what to say. I want to trust You, but I am afraid to hear Your answer. I want to be wise, but I cannot ignore the way I feel. Can You help me?”

She hardly recognized herself—an accidental spy, in love with the one man who could condemn her as such.

“I will not pretend to fully understand what you are going through, or how you are feeling. But I will stay and offer whatever I can to help ease your burden, if you’ll let me.”

The story is set during a difficult time that sees division during war. The author creates an emotional look at an historical event with details that make the story come to life. There was a quiet peace surrounding Libby at times even though the loss of her father was never far from her mind. I like how she has a gentle spirit and was able to help someone even though they may not agree on what is going on around them. Libby has had feelings for Isaac for a long time but hides it from him for now. I loved how this relationship is slow and gives readers a look at how God knits us close together as we grow deeper in our faith.

With the chance to leave and get away from the danger, Libby just can’t make herself go. So many cherished memories of her father linger. It is hard to leave the only place she has ever known. Did she make the right decision to stay during a war? There is a definite pull in her heart knowing that one reason she wants to stay is because she has feelings thst grow deeper everyday for Isaac.

Isaac feels the need to protect Libby and her mother especially since her father had become a trusted friend to him. I like how caring he is and his intention to keep Libby and her mother safe. His promise to protect them is never far from his thoughts. Libby’s father was someone Isaac looked up to. His own father was very stern with him and forced him to be a sergeant even though he had no desire to be. Will Isaac find that his devotion to his cause put his relationship with Libby in danger?

Deeply rooted in faith, the story follows two characters who find themselves holding back on their feelings . God is ever present as Libby finds herself learning a secret that could be harmful. She never thought she would be faced with the knowledge that someone close to her is a spy. She can’t reveal this to Isaac as she isn’t sure she can trust him.

I enjoyed how the author gives readers a look at betrayal, secrets and learning to trust in this action packed emotional story. It was hard to see the story end as I have come to enjoy Libby and Isaac’s journey.

Scars of the Revolution by Megan Soja set during the early days of the American War of Independence, during the siege of Boston, just before Bunker Hill, in Boston of 1775.

Libby and Lt.Harrison are on opposing sides, with the Lieutenant quartered in Libby's home along with her widowed mother. They are family friends, though Libby yearns for something more. Lt.Harrison has his commitments to his King, regiment, family honour and name, and his fiancee.

Follow the young couple as they navigate their way through a siege, starvation rations, a network of spies, espionage, war, battles, caring for the wounded.... Can they ever be more than friends? Can Lt.Harrison and Libby ever have an honourable future together, though at the very least they are on opposing sides of a hard fought battle?

The story moves swiftly, but can serious, unexpected actions and events rob them of what might have been, even ripping apart old friendships beyond all recognition? Where is God's hand in all this heartache? Can he be trusted? Can his word hold fast, even when everything is turned upside down and wrong side out?

Megan Soja has a strong, Christ centred thread running through her novel and she uses it expeditiously, firmly addressing questions of worth, belonging, God's unconditional love and acceptance of us despite everything we do. There are some wonderful, eternal truths in there for us, modern day readers, to uncover and apply to ourselves if we will.

This makes the novel stand out from the pack if you're a Christian, no spice romance reader/historical fiction buff. Tender moments and a budding, forbidden romance add just the right amount of interest.

A nice read to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill & the Boston Tea Party of 1775 than saw the outbreak of serious hostilities between Crown and the Colonies.

I was given a copy by Celebrate Lit, but the review and opinions here are my own and are freely offered.

Scars of the Revolution by Megan Soja is another beautiful installment in her Harbor of Spies series. Characters mentioned in the first two novels, Libby and Isaac, get their own complicated romance in this intriguing tale. A childhood admiration that turned into years of pining is just one layer of the plot’s multifaceted complexity.

The raw, unbridled emotion coursing through events and each character’s responses illuminated Libby and Isaac in such intimate ways while also shedding light on that tumultuous historical period. A beautiful weaving of scripture turns the narrative tapestry vibrant with realistic dilemmas that challenge faith both then and now. Mrs. Abbott, an inspirational mother, easily became a beloved character. Most of my favorite quotes were from her. Rich three-dimensional characterizations also turn Isaac and Libby into literary friends not easily forgotten.

The ravages of war, both geographically and emotionally, wedge obstacles threatening personal relationships while also testing faith throughout the chapters. This book does not shy away from the moral dilemmas, no matter which side of the revolution a person finds themselves on. The clash of personal conviction, emotional ties, and authoritative orders truly comes through in ways that make your heart ache.

In the end, this book shines with a reminder of God’s sovereignty and the peace of knowing He uses all things for his good. As is typical with the other books in this series, plenty of spiritual takeaways turn this story into a true treasure. Its ending left me feeling more than entertained. The story reminded me patriotically to appreciate the sacrifices made long before my birth. Definitely a gem for fans of historical romance.

This continues right from the second book and is focused in on Libby, the step-sister of the two main characters from the first two books. She misses her presence of her step-siblings, as they now live in another town, but she is glad she stayed behind, since she has lingering feelings for a Loyalist soldier she has known since she was a young teen girl. Isaac Harrison looked up to her own father as if he were an adoptive father, but also as a dear friend. Even though she has views that stir more towards the Patriot point of view, she doesn't want anyone to harm anyone. She wants there to be peace between all men, to see one another while also seeking justice. She is a lovely character and I really appreciated learning more in depth of her attitude towards the war. She knows too many people who have been intertwined with espionage, but they all tried to keep her out of it, while also using some of the information she had gleaned from conversations as a form of protection for her loved ones that could get her into some trouble too.

While this was a different take of how everything from the other books were written about the engagements of espionage, I really enjoyed that we got to learn so much about who Isaac is. In the last book, I didn't really care too much for his personality, but with knowing his inner thoughts better, it made me feel some pity for him and gain more respect.

This was another lovely tale that used faith throughout the story, but the other two books had been much stronger. There were some very sad situations that took place in this book though and I enjoyed the passion of Libby. She really was a lady of valor.

“Perhaps it was better to linger in the unknown a bit longer, since it left room for hope.”

This Revolutionary War tale of faith, peril, and unrequited love sweeps the reader straight into occupied Boston. The stakes feel modest at first… a Patriot civilian and British officer have feelings for each other. However, as the plot unfolds, the stakes rise in a way that feels authentic to the historical moment and to the characters themselves. Though this unrequited love remains a central plot point, several other crises step into the foreground, all of which Soja weaves together beautifully. The result is an absolute page-turner.

I’ll admit I felt a bit hesitant starting this book. Certain tropes are difficult to pull off without being cheesy. One example is “forced proximity.” Yet, in Scars of the Revolution, Soja’s use of this trope feels intentional. The forced proximity of a quartering soldier feels natural, realistic, and essential. This is only one example!

I was especially impressed with the implementation of Christian faith in this story.
“[God] has shown me that it is not my grasp of Him that matters, but rather His hold on me. Nothing can take me from His hands, no question or doubt will cause Him to turn his back on me, and no sorrow of this world will shake His promise that my soul is secure for eternity in Him.”
“But are you never worried?...”
“I am. But I trust in God who is and know that my circumstances do not alter His character.”
Amid the action scenes and emotional revelations, this evocative passage stirred my heart more than any other!

Reading Scars felt like an experience rather than a mere story, and I will gladly recommend this book to friends and family.

Scars of the Revolution is written by Megan Soja. This is book 3 in the Harbor of Spies series. I have not read the rest of the series and had no issues following along. One of the things I really appreciated by this author is how authentic the time setting was. The author has done a great job and transporting readers back in time.

In this book, we meet Libby Caldwell. She and her mom have stayed behind in Boston when so many others have fled. She has got strong patriot sympathetic views. However, she has a British lieutenant staying with them who she’s been harboring a crush on for many years. This British lieutenant, is Isaac Harrison. He is a friend of Libby‘s dad and has been staying with them for a while. He tends to keep to himself because he knows they have opposite political views.

Well, they may see different politically. Isaac is nothing but caring and compassionate to Libby and her mother.neighbors of the Caldwell’s start to become suspicious of the camaraderie between Libby, her mother and Isaac.

Both characters confront their past wounds — grief, duty, fear, and faith. Their emotional “scars” become the foundation of their connection. This book is extremely well written, as stated above the author has done a wonderful job and transporting readers back to a time where Boston was occupied with British loyalist. The characters are well developed. The storyline is engaging. I hope to read more from this author.

Having read books 1 and 2 in the Harbor of Spies series, I couldn't wait to read Libby's story. While it can be read as a standalone, readers will quickly realize there is a brilliant story arc between all of the stories, each picking up where the other left off. As with the others, this is a story set against the crucible of the American Revolution, with outstanding historical detail. It is the story of the citizens left behind in Boston, with divided loyalties and espionage overshadowing the hardships of survival.

I found Scars of the Revolution to be quietly told, pacing slow at times, but relevant to the plot during the Boston Siege.I was drawn into the story with the vivid description of the battle of Breed's Hill, otherwise known as Bunker Hill. The sights, sounds and smells, the feelings of fear, entwined with duty and courage. Megan Soja tells a sweet story of a young woman caught between her strong loyalty to the Patriot cause and love for a British soldier. Isaac is torn between duty and his growing struggle to be free, to follow his own heart and conscience. Their story is one of love and faith, strengthened by the scars of war.

I am eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series.

THIS. BOOK. It's already 500 pages but I wanted it to be more! The pages flew by and I couldn't get enough of it. I thought I loved the first two books in this series, but this story was even better. The author writes phenomenally! Her characters are so true to life and she really does her research. The American Revolution happens to be one of my favorite time periods and I have read a lot of fiction and non-fiction. We should be very, very grateful for our patriot forefathers who sacrificed so much.
I really didn't know how this story was going to go. A British officer, Isaac and a Patriot woman, Libby. Libby has been enamored with Isaac ever since her father knew him. She doesn't think he will ever notice her though. However, after several years, the war has progressed, and Isaac is now quartering in Libby's home. Things have gotten very messy! The war has escalated, spy networks have increased, and many patriots have left Boston, but Libby & her mother have stayed.
The story goes back and forth between Isaac's point of view and Libby's. It was fascinating. To see the war from both sides was very interesting. The tests, the trials, the betrayals and the hard times. This was truly and superb story and one that will linger with me for a long time!

“We never grieve without hope, for we know that nothing is hidden from God. We can trust His sovereignty in all things.”
What an unlikely romance between patriot Libby and Lieutenant Isaac Harrison of the occupying British army in Boston 1775.
I love learning about the history of our country and Ms. Soja brings the past to life in this wonderful story full of danger, intrigue and personal struggles.
Lubby is twenty and lives with her twice-widowed mother. They are housing a British officer during a volatile time in the formation of our nation. Isaac knew and respected her father and they would discuss the Bible. Libby’s mother lives out her faith and is often the voice of reason, sharing scripture and wisdom.
There is much to ponder in this story. We need to remember our roots and appreciate those lwho sacrificed to give us our freedoms and this wonderful country.
Ms. Soja brings the challenges of an emerging nation to a personal level as the characters learn to navigate their faith in troubling times.
I look forward to the next book in this excellent series.
