Secrets of the Icewomen offers excellent insights from a female perspective for anyone curious about the Wim Hof Method (WHM) and its potential benefits for women’s health. Although I haven't explored many aspects of the WHM myself, I can vouch for the benefits of something as simple as turning down the heat in your shower. Yes, it takes a bit of time to get used to the frigid temperature, and it can be quite a jolt to your system, but it’s also invigorating and leaves you feeling refreshed and energized.
The book dives into the science behind the method, presenting useful statistics and actionable methodologies that readers can incorporate into their lives. The insights into how cold exposure and breathwork can support hormonal balance and overall well-being are particularly compelling. However, at times, the book can feel a bit dry and overly dense with statistics, which detracts from its accessibility and made the reading experience less engaging—hence my three-star rating.
Overall, this was an interesting and informative read. Many thanks to Edelweiss and Harper for providing an eARC of Secrets of the Icewomen: The Power of Cold and Breathwork to Balance Hormones, Bolster Health, and Unlock Inner Potential prior to publication.

I’ve been a hoffer since 2020, after discovering this method from an episode of goop. My deep dive let me through reading any book on the topic I could find and starting the practice on my own. I’m adamant practicing WHM helped me get over a months long case of mono, just in time to get a round of COVID, but even that was manageable with breathing methods.
As Dr Stacy Sims says “women are not small men”. While reading this book that quote kept drifting through my mind because this book is so helpful for the female practice, and explains many of the feelings I’ve felt towards cold exposure and mindset at different times of my monthly cycle.
I truly enjoyed this read, which is partially why it took me so long to read- I didn’t want it to end. Thank you Isabelle and Laura for creating this amazing resource for women and our families.

Wow! What an excellent read! Very good structure of information, science, and method. Lovely personal anecdotes, and testimonials. A great read for anyone, I learned so much about how a practice that is very personal for me can be different for women. Lots of wisdom in here. For me it opened my eyes to some of the unique challenges women face in accessing such a power method. Hopefully it will make me a better instructor of the method.
An excellent addition to the Wim Hof Method library of information.

Great to have a book written by women for women. The reading is a bit repetitive, and I didn’t really like that the claims don’t have citations as they did in the Wim Hof book, so would rate the reading about 2-3 stars, but the method is definitely 10/10 with some great examples/practices to get you going if you’re interested in the method. Can say that doing the breathing, mindset and cold exposure definitely help me personally with recovery, peace and calm.

Loved the book. I loved the research and detail that not onlyInto the I’ve method itself and its benefits, but also the history involved in both the method and even the fight for research to be made on women. What an empowering book, both in terms of the info readers are now armed with, and also the Wim Hof method itself!

Interesting book about the cold and breath for women! Lots of helpful and motivational information.
A bit less sciency would make it easier to read, but for those who want to explore the science behind these practices (like me), it's a perfect book to dive into.

Yes, the gorgeous Dutch authors lying in a tub of ice and flowers with great big smiles on the cover is a tad intimidating, but I am willing to give this a shot. Why not. Lets trip my body out with cold exposure!

Since when is menarche a hormone related illness?! I was so excited to read this book as someone who teaches menstruality and cyclical connection but seeing that made me question the legitimacy of the entire book. I did not have it in me to continue reading after that which is such a shame.

Cold showers got me through Covid. Thank you, Wim Hof. Secrets of the Icewomen is inspiring me to go a little deeper using WHM breathing techniques and intentions.
Every day, I am astounded by the deep joy to be found in the cold.
