Madeline has lived a tough life, but nothing prepared her for being kidnapped and thrust into the unknown dimension of OneWorld where she is tortured by a white-eyed monster. Dominion, the Immortal black-winged assassin of the OneCreator, rescues her. As their paths intertwine, Madeline grapples with newfound powers and her unexpected evolution while Dom comes to terms with his guilt from an event in his past. Theirs is a tale of twists and turns, doubt, forbidden love, forgiveness, and conflict that threatens the existence of OneWorld.
After retiring from my career in education, I settled in to write something more creative than lesson plans on split infinitives and inner-school memos on noise in the hallway.
My first novel was the romantic mystery comedy romp Affection for Crime. I am now living with vampires, demons, ylves, mages, and other magical beings who keep me awake at night with their tales of love and adventure. Taking great interest in their lives, I began a paranormal romance series (or maybe what is now called romantasy) with alpha males who aren't always nice and females who have no problem keeping them in line. The Firebrand is the first book in the completed Blood Coven Series. The new series is the Blood Coven World.
Here are more orts, scraps, and fragments from my life. (Thank you, Virginia Wolf and Shakespeare.) I moved from sunny Las Vegas to the less-than-sunny Pacific Northwest. Here I have adventures with my daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters who also moved to the area. I also enjoy my membership at Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN), a local organization that supports the arts and offers classes and events in eleven different studios. It was at BARN where my critique group began. With equal time given to in-depth comments on each other's works, snarky remarks, and laughter, we have now been together over five years.
An excellent start to what I know will be another fabulous series by T.M. The action, the passion, the growth - all laid out splendidly. Looking forward to more.
If The Bargainer Series by Laura Thalassa and the Hades x Persephone series by Scarlett St Clair had a baby, it would be this book.
If you love grumpy winged assassins and a world of flying creatures, youll love this book.
The way Dom turns to mush is a feet kicking read and finding out how the mystery of Maddy and how she ended up in OneWorld etc kept you wanting to read the book as quick as possible.
Really enjoyed this one and would definitely reccomend. I have some questions so I really hope there is a book 2 so we can figure out what is going on with OC and the world 😍
Dark Shadow of Guilt is book one of the author’s new Winged Assassin paranormal series that takes the reader on quite an exciting journey with it’s MFC librarian Madeline who leaving work for the day bumps into a man on the street while walking home and next thing she knows wakes up tied to a wall in the Scath realm. The strange white eyed monster who has her calls himself Praevus as she learns later and his perverse mind rat gift is to be able to enter another’s mind. But Madeline has survived a past that has made her mind shields strong which doesn’t make it easy for the monster to ravage hers, though he does leave something behind that will effect future events. MMC Dominion is an assassin for the One Creator and after a snitch lets him and is fellow assassins know about the human now in their realm they go hunting to find her. Luckily Dominion finds Madeline first after she was able to escape Praevus and their adventure together begins, as they try to determine why she was kidnapped, and if Praevus was working alone. Loved this newest story that is set amongst the world of the Firebrands and was filled with twists and turns, humor to lighten moments, surprises, action, spice, intrigue, danger, well crafted characters, and excellent world building. Looking forward to what comes next!.

This is book one of the winged Assassins of Angor. It starts with Madeline, a human librarian being kidnapped and taken to Angor by a Mind rat called Praevus. There he keeps her prisoner and attempts to mess with her mind and make her a sycophant. While he wasn't completely successful he did manage to place some triggers that would pop up later. She manages to escape and is rescued by Dom a winged assassin known as a Feard. That is where the story gets interesting. There is a hunt on for Praevus, and an underlying plot with unknown perpetrators. Add to that the underlying sexual tension between the two main characters and an as yet hidden part of Madeline that make her more than human and you have the makings of quite an interesting tale. I recommend you check it out.

Maddy, a typical human with past baggage, is kidnapped by someone and brought to Angor for some unknown reason. But she escapes and is found by Dom, an Immortal black-winged assassin of the OneCreator, with his own past baggage. The plan is to return Maddy to earth but things go wrong . Then the story gets more interesting. A great beginning to a new series in Smith's worlds and realms with a mystery or two, intrigue, drama and some unknowns thrown in too add to all the fun. Easy to read, some steam, and a love story with a fun beginning and some twists to make it more entertaining to watch play out. Great characters and had to glued to the end to watch it all play out.
I really enjoyed Dark Shadow of Guilt! The plot has me hooked. I did think the romance between Dom and Maddy felt a bit forced; she goes from being basically brainwashed into being obsessed with him to totally into him. I kept thinking her attraction was going to be a residual effect of being a Sycophant because it didn’t feel natural. I also thought the pacing went a bit haywire at the end. For about 75% of the book, the pacing stayed the same, but all of the sudden, for the last quarter, it completely sped up. I did also feel like I was missing Ohngel and Indigo’s story, though this is supposed to be the first book in the series. Other than that, though, I really enjoyed the book! I’m fairly certain I know where the plot is headed, so I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.

This book has the basic recipe for a dark fantasy romance book HOWEVER the actual storyline was unique and engaging. I really appreciated that even being a dark fantasy romance book the author left out the miscommunication trope and the pregnancy trope but still kept the fated mates trope with all the tension and spice going without putting the spicy stuff ahead of the actual storyline. The balance was greatly appreciated! Total upside is you get a hot winged MMC and multiple POVs (not just the MCs)! The main characters got a happily ever after but the overall storyline will continue as the series progresses. There wasn't a big cliffhanger for the storyline and the HEA for the characters leaves you satisfied but still eager to read the next book. While I enjoyed Maddie and Dom's story I am really hoping we get Remi's story!
The only thing that I didn't like was there was no indication for who's POV we were entering at the beginning of the chapters and there is more that just the main character's POV throughout the book. Since the book is written in the 3rd person and has multiple POVs it always took me a minute to figure out when a POV changed.

Book one in the new Winged Assassin series, Dark Shadow of Guilt is a dark paranormal romance set in Angor, in OneWorld dimension. Following the abrupt abduction of Madeleine by a Scourge named Praevus, and a winged assassin for the OneCreator, Dominion. The story was well crafted and held my attention throughout. The characters deep emotions were explored nicely, and the world was described in a way that didn’t overtake the plot. Quite the balance.

Although, I’ve missed a few books in between here and the last 1 I read, this was absolutely mind glowingly awesome! OMG. Learning about Angor, and the OneWorld and everyone/everything was just wow. Madeline is kidnapped from Earth and brought to Angor, where she is mind tortured by a Mind Rat, Praevus. The book is scary as well as inspiring. Learning about Maddie as she grew up with her sisters Fia & Darya was inspiring and heartbreaking. Learning about the Immortal and the break down into Scourges, etc. wow. Ohngel and Indy are hilarious and romantic and sweet together. Dominion, is another winged assassin of the OneCreator or OC, like Ohngel, Ely (Elysian) & Remi (Remiel). They can seriously fight. Like wow. I’d love to see a movie, tv show or manga cartoon version of this. I love Remi of the other guys as he talks movies and tv shows- quoting them a lot, which made me laugh. Dominion is a grumpy Alpha but he does grow on ya. I soooo needed the AC on for the hotness factor of the guys. Maddie goes through so much, it made me tear up a few times and cry a few times. What Praevus does to Maddie lasts much longer and freaks me out. EEEEK. The fight scenes are awesome and the book could go from sweet and cute and fun to freaky in an instant. Things do not go as planned and goes total mayhem. Something is seriously wrong with the OC and OneWorld. I’m totally in love with the wolver, Freki. He is cute, hilarious and I’d want to be with him all the time if he was real. lol. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I loved the story between Dom and her. I felt like there were too many POVs since it’s in third person. Too many questions left unanswered. Most likely will read the second one!
This book follows a few characters perspectives. Mainly Maddie and Dominion. Maddie is kidnapped from her job as a librarian and brought to an alternate world where she is rescued and has to learn about the new structure and powers of Angor. This book follows a similar tale to Christian history mixed with Greek mythology.
I believe this book has a lot of potential in the story, though it does end on a cliffhanger. There is clearly a complicated series of events playing out that was interesting for anyone who enjoys mythology, or books with immortals. Maddie's character has a lot of past trauma that has shaped who she is, and how she thinks and acts. I enjoyed seeing how consistently she was written. The other immortal beings also all have intriguing personalities as you get to see bits of them in small chapters written from their perspectives. Also, just have to say, love the wolf WOO! But, I wish I felt like I knew him more, he just magically became Maddies best friend overnight, which leads to my next paragraph.
The main issues I faced were largely based on the writing, I think this books story could be a favorite of mine but is often cheesy and rushed. It just felt underdeveloped, like there should be twice as many chapters. I also didn't feel like basically ANYTHING was resolved by the end. This is not exact but there is a line similar to "Please pick up the pieces of my heart and put it back together, I love you". AND JUST GAG. A lot of lines are similar to this, and thought processes. As with most romances, there is a lovers falling out, this one was pretty small, but I felt like an outsider watching, and it was very quickly resolved with some cheesy lines. The writing is plot line, until a quick emotion dump, and then plot. It's not blended smoothly and is all "told" to the reader. I also didn't see any love happening and felt like they had just met each other and BAM they were soul mates. Uh... Everything moved so quickly and I kept thinking it felt like someone told a story of a story that they had once read. Lacking a lot of details and build up. There was also the whole idea that Dom was cured of *centuries* of guilt over learning one quick AA trick! So yeah, unrealistic. One thing readers may like that I don't, the names of characters and places. A lot of typical mythological words (or regular words) written with new spellings (Feard). If it had been 3 or so words, this would've been a welcome spelling, but it was a lot of words/names/places. This made my brain work double time to track new information - and there's a lot of info dumping to track that isn't laid out naturally over time or at critical moments.
I have to say, if you want a quick read you could give this a try. Expect a condensed story, and the large over looming plot line is not resolved before the ending.
This review is in exchange for a free book by Netgalley and the author. Thank you for letting me read your stories!
4.5stars-DARK SHADOW OF GUILT is the first instalment in TM Smith’s adult WINGED ASSASSIN erotic, paranormal, fantasy romance series set in the author’s Blood Coven World. This is Immortal Black-winged assassin Dominion ‘Dom’, and human librarian Madeline’s story line.
Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Dom and Madeline, using present day and memories from the past DARK SHADOW OF GUILT follows in the wake of the abduction and rescue of our story line heroine. Madeline is a research librarian at the St. Louis library but finds herself a victim of an abduction , trapped and abused by a creature known as a Mind Rat but her ‘rescue’ by Dominion finds our heroine in the throws of becoming something else and something more, and as the hours and days go by, Madeline is no longer the woman she once was. While Dominion calls in help from Ohngel aka Roark, and his mate Indigo (The Phoenix #5), the inhabitants of Angor-OneWorld, and Vast-OneWorld, become suspect, as a former assassin begins to amass an army of supernatural creatures, and a series of environmental events affect the man in charge.
The well developed world building is detailed and multi-layered as the author re-introduces numerous supernatural creatures including Flesh Eaters, Blood Leeches, Mind Rats and Soul Suckers, Firebrands, Assassins, Warriors, Aeternals, Immortals and Wolvers. The politics of Oneworld, ruled by OneCreator is enmeshed in rules and laws that are to be tested as Dom’s claiming of Madeline is new and untried.
The relationship between Dom and Madeline begins as a rescue but Dom doesn’t do relationships, and Madeline becomes the aggressor against her will. Dom is determined to uncover the truth about what happened to Madeline but the deeper Dom journeys, more questions remain unanswered. In an effort to protect our story line heroine, Dom must claim Madeline as his own, a claiming that catches the attention of the people in charge. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, powerful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including winged warriors, Michael, Ely, Remi, Ohngel and his mate Indigo; former warrior Lucian; former Scourge Harmony; Mind Rat Praevus, Scourges Serita and Malacour; Freki the wolver. Each has a vital role to play, but not everyone can be trusted.
DARK SHADOW OF GUILT is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, madness and murder, power and control, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic, intricate and captivating; the romance is fated and impassioned; the characters are determined, lively, and larger than life.
Dark Shadow of Guilt by T. M. Smith launches the Winged Assassin series with a dark, immersive paranormal romance that pulls you into another world and refuses to let go.
Madeline is an ordinary librarian with an extraordinary amount of resilience. One moment she’s leaving work, the next she’s waking up chained to a wall in the terrifying realm of OneWorld, held captive by Praevus—a white-eyed mind-rat monster who delights in breaking people from the inside out. What he doesn’t count on is Madeline’s past. Her hard-won mental strength makes her far more difficult to dominate, even if he leaves behind dangerous triggers that will echo into the future.
Enter Dominion.
Dom is a Feard—an immortal, black-winged assassin sworn to the OneCreator, burdened by guilt and shaped by centuries of bloodshed. When word spreads that a human has been dragged into Angor, he joins the hunt… and finds Madeline first. Her escape and his rescue ignite a journey filled with danger, secrets, and questions that threaten the balance of OneWorld itself.
What truly makes this story shine is the layered tension. There’s the hunt for Praevus. The mystery of who helped him and why. The slow unraveling of Madeline’s true nature, hinting that she’s becoming something far more than human. And threading through it all is the quiet, aching pull between Madeline and Dom—an attraction made complicated by guilt, duty, and a love that feels forbidden before it’s even named.
Madeline is a compelling heroine: intelligent, brave, and believable, using survival instincts rather than brute strength to endure horrors no one should face. Dom is equally captivating—a lethal protector wrestling with remorse and the terrifying possibility that redemption might come in the form of a human woman he was never meant to love.
Dark Shadow of Guilt is rich with world-building, emotional depth, and slow-burn chemistry. If you love paranormal romance with tortured heroes, resilient heroines, dark villains, and secrets that promise even bigger revelations ahead, this first installment is an exciting, addictive start to a series that’s clearly just spreading its wings.

You dive into a fantasy world where Dominion, a fallen immortal assassin (yes, with black wings), rescues Madeline, a mortal who’s been yanked into a realm called OneWorld… tortured, disoriented, and oh yeah, thrust into chaos. It’s got dark magic, soul‑tugging inner conflicts, and a setup of forbidden romance with, uh, world‑ending stakes on the side.
What Worked for Me
•Vibe: If you’re into paranormal romance with a splash of epic fantasy, this hits some satisfying beats. Dominion’s moody, deadly-vigilante persona mixed with Madeline’s fiery adaptability makes for some electric tension.
•Pacing & World‑Building: There are twists and turns that kept me flipping. The world feels richly imagined, with supernatural politics, emotional stakes, and looming threats lending a pretty immersive backdrop .
•Emotional Core: There’s a nice thread of redemption—not just in the high-stakes stuff, but in the quieter beats where these two characters figure out how to trust each other.
What Didn’t Totally Land
•Tone Collision: Sometimes it swings from grimdark assassin drama to smoldering romantic tension in a way that feels a bit jarring-like you’re on a battlefield and suddenly, bam, steamy eye-gazing scene.
•Romance vs. Plot Balance: A few moments feel like they lean too heavily into the romance stuff-even when the fate of the universe is on the line. I wanted a little more staying power in the supernatural conflict to balance things out.
Overall Feel
I’d peg it at 3.5 stars: a strong foundation with plenty of heart and intrigue. Whether you’re a paranormal romance fan or just into multi-layered fantasy with emotional stakes, there’s something fun here. Just be ready for tonal shifts and a central duo that owns the narrative. If the sequel levels up the world-building and rounds out the supporting cast, this series could really take flight.
3.5 ⭐️ There were elements of this I really enjoyed and others that I didn't like so much but overall this was a good story and I will continue the series as it goes on.
Firstly, I really liked the characters! Dom is grumpy, winged and a warrior. He has a dark humour but has been through a lot in his life. Betrayal and hurt clings to him. I thought Maddy was great and I really enjoyed the insights to her past. It showed so much of why she was like she was.
The other warriors were a great addition. I loved that Remi was a film buff and he chucked in movie quotes here and there. I'm so intrigued by the OneCreator especially with the little revelation at the end.
The world building was good. I liked how the different dimensions had distinct differences.
The plot has a lot of intrigue and I liked how it didn't give it all away in the first book. I am so keen to know who is leading the rebellion and what has happened to Maddy's sisters?!
The reason why this got 3.5 stars is because I feel like the romance wasn't really developed enough. It was just a bit too quick for me and they fell so quick and I guess I prefer a bit more angst thrown in. I did even joy the spice though! I'd have also liked more battle / action scenes. The ones we got felt over too quickly for me.
I liked the humour and banter between characters and LOVE Freki. There should be more talking wolves in books if you ask me!
Thank you to Victory Editing, the author and NetGalley for the arc. This is my own honest review of the book!
Dark Shadow of Guilt is a gripping, otherworldly fantasy romance that pulls you into a dark and mysterious dimension right from the start. T.M. Smith has crafted a unique, immersive world in OneWorld—complete with high stakes, tortured souls, and a powerful undercurrent of fate and redemption.
Madeline is a compelling heroine with a painful past, and her sudden plunge into this strange, dangerous realm is both terrifying and fascinating. Dominion, the black-winged immortal assassin, is the kind of brooding, guilt-ridden character that fantasy lovers will be drawn to. Their dynamic is intense and emotionally charged, with plenty of tension and internal conflict.
That said, the romance between Maddy and Dom did feel a bit rushed. Maddy’s transition from trauma and manipulation to deep emotional attachment to Dom happens quickly and could’ve used more development to feel truly earned. Still, their journey together brings out layers in both characters that deepen the story’s emotional core.
Where this book really shines is in the writing style—smooth, vivid, and engaging. T.M. Smith’s prose has great flow, and the pacing kept me turning pages. The worldbuilding is rich without being overwhelming, and the supporting characters are well thought out, adding real depth to the story.
If you’re into dark fantasy with strong emotional arcs, high-stakes action, and a touch of reluctant romance, this is a solid pick. I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes next!
Dark Shadows of Guilt is book one in the new Winged Assassins series, a fantasy/paranormal read that is set in a world where mostly Immortals reside. Madeline, a human woman, is on her way home from her job at the library when she accidentally runs into someone, and when she wakes she finds herself tied to a wall in a completely new world. Praevus, a mind rat, who can burrow his way into people’s minds and alter their way of thinking, begins his assault on Madeline, but she’s not like other people and her brain is a complicated maze that both arouses and angers Praevus. Just as he’s starting to get deeper, someone rats him out and he has no choice but to flee, leaving Madeline behind.. but not before leaving some little surprises in place. When assassin Dominion finds her, things quickly escalate as Madeline becomes almost like a mindless slave to Dom.. but she also fights against it when her real feelings start to merge with the mindless slave she’s slowly becoming. The book is set in the same world of her Firebrands series, and although I didn’t read the author’s previous series, I'm sure there are some things that I am missing, like how one of the other assassins and his mate met, but it doesn’t really interfere with the story unless you're like me and need every little detail.
What a ride! I'll start by saying the book has too many loose ends for me and feels like many easter eggs were planted, leaving it as a bit of a cliffhanger, which I did not love. Now, for the goodies - this book was both tender and powerfully introspective—everything I didn’t know I needed in a paranormal slow-burn with erotic heat and unexpected heart.
Dark Shadow of Guilt resonated with me as a sensual tale that thrives on emotional realism, grief of needing connection while fearing its loss, and deep trust. Maddy and Dom’s connection unfolds like a sacred ritual—raw, reluctant, and ultimately redemptive.
I deeply appreciated how Dom’s willingness to adapt, attune, and offer safety was a balm for Maddie’s hyper-independence. Their sexual connection wasn’t just about physical need—it was about seeing, choosing, and connecting with each other, even when the world (and some minds) were unraveling. I am super curious to hear more about this world in future books and hope for the loose ends to be tied up more smoothly along the way.
Readers who love grumpy/sunshine dynamics, fated mates with emotional complexity, BDSM elements - normalized as part of this realm, and morally gray fantasy realms will be drawn to this story. Definitely a HFN in my book!
The story begins with Madeline, a human librarian who’s kidnapped by a mind rat named Praevus and taken to Angor. His goal? Twist her mind and bend her will. While he doesn’t fully succeed, he leaves behind dangerous triggers that resurface later. Madeline eventually escapes and finds herself saved by Dom, a lethal winged assassin known as a Feard—and that’s when things really take off. From the hunt for Praevus to a deeper plot brewing in the shadows, the tension builds layer by layer. Add in sizzling chemistry between Madeline and Dom, plus a hidden truth about Madeline that makes her far more than just human, and you’ve got the recipe for a gripping, well-balanced fantasy. The bonus? A hot, winged MMC, multiple POVs, and a satisfying happily-ever-after for the main couple—without the pain of a huge cliffhanger. The larger series plot is still very much in play, but this book delivers a fulfilling ending while leaving you eager for what’s next.
Tropes you’ll find inside: 🕵️ secrets & lies 🩸 betrayal & vengeance 🧠 madness & murder 👑 power & control 💔 acceptance & love ❤️ fated romance
Plot summary: The story follows a young, female librarian from St. Louis who is kidnapped and taken to the realms of immortals. She is rescued by an enforcer of the OneCreators laws. They endure trials while attempting to return her to her mortal Earthly life and fall for each other in the process.
The story line was fine and had some good bones to stand on. I liked the backstory of the characters. However, overall the story seemed to lack in details and world development. I found it jarring to be in another realm with immortals but have random Earth pop culture peppered in. Being a St. Louis girlie myself, I was absolutely incensed when the author added a line about booing umpires at a Cardinals game (that doesn’t really happen in baseball heaven). Spicy scenes were overall well done, not a lot of tension building, and Rated R level sexual content.
TLDR: Not dying to read the sequel.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Madeline has had a rough life, but she’s finally found some peace in her job as a librarian. One night she is kidnapped and taken to a place called OneWorld, where she is tortured both in her body and her mind. The winged assassin, Dom, an Immortal being who’s job it is to round up the Scourge (immortal beings gone rogue), rescues Madeline and takes her to his place to heal. But things aren’t what they seem, and Madeline begins to evolve and Dom calls in the rest of the assassins to figure out what is going on.
The world building is spectacular, the supporting characters are all well flushed out and the banter between them is fun, sarcastic and witty. The suspense around what is happening in OneWorld and what is happening to Madeline is our main focus here, although there are a couple subplots running in the background. There are also secrets that will continue on into the future books. There are plenty of supernatural creatures introduced and this is a great start to an original new series.
I received and ARC copy of this book from NetGalley!
I’m uncertain about my feelings regarding this book. The overall story feels somewhat rushed, with too many events unfolding in a short timeframe. The romantic aspect seems hurried, as Maddy transitions from being a sycophant—something Dom refrains from exploiting—to suddenly being deeply in love with him, almost resembling a couple. Although they discuss how they have changed, I, as a reader, don’t feel like I’m able to follow their emotional development.
Perhaps this is partly due to my preference for first-person narratives. Because of this, it feels like I don’t truly understand how they feel or why; I’m simply informed of their emotions instead of experiencing them firsthand. Additionally, the multiple points of view hinder my ability to form a genuine connection with the characters.
Nonetheless, I believe the story's concept has significant potential. Unfortunately, the way it’s written just doesn’t resonate with me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was somewhere between 4 stars and 4.5 stars for me. The storyline held my interest and always had me wanting more. The world T.M. Smith created is unique and so creative! It really felt like something different than a lot of the books I've read. I also really loved the characters! My favorites were, of course, Dom and Madeline, but the side characters were great too. I enjoyed watching Dom and Madeline fall in love. I always love when the MMC is only soft for the FMC. Madeline definitely brought out the best in Dom.
The main reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because of the writing style. It just wasn't quite for me. There were 10 POV in the book and that was too much for me. Some readers might love that and feel like it gives a more well rounded story though. Unfortunately for me, it made it feel a little disjointed instead.
Thank you for Netgalley and Victory Editing for the ARC!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a different story to what I usually read and I really enjoyed reading this book, the story was written well and the main characters. This story was about Madeline and Dominic (Dom), Madeline was kidnapped from Earth and taken to Angor to be given to a mind rat, the mind rat chained her to a wall while he rewired Madeline's brain to the way he likes and found it definitely interesting. Dom is an assassin with one eye and wings he saved Madeline, it was only when he was flying her back home but was stopped by a wall. Now the two of them have to work together and find out who kidnapped her and how far did the mind rat go except they can't find him and also to see if they could find someone to help. The chemistry between them was at boiling point before they give in, they were not suppose to mate, now they are up against the courts will they survive or be killed.
Dark Shadow of Guilt by T.M. Smith is a gripping read that blends suspense, mystery, and psychological tension in just the right way. The plot is layered and engaging, with twists that kept me guessing well into the final chapters. The pacing is strong, and the story rarely lets up, which makes it difficult to put down.
The characters are well-developed and relatable, particularly the FMC, whose emotional depth and determination anchor the story. The MMC is compelling, with just enough complexity to keep the dynamic between the two characters intriguing. Their relationship unfolds naturally, adding emotional stakes to the suspenseful plot.
The only minor drawback was that a few subplots felt slightly underexplored, leaving me wanting more depth in certain areas. Nevertheless, this did not detract significantly from the overall reading experience.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story is exciting right from the beginning. The characters are awesome. Madeline aka Maddy is a spunky human librarian. One day after work she is kidnapped, and knocked out. When she wakes up she finds herself tied to a wall. She is freaked out when she meets her captor! Her captor is not human! He is evil looking with bat wings. He says his name is Praevus and plans to control her in every way. He tells Maddy that he is what is known as a Scourge, and that she is in the realm of Angor. Dominion aka Dom is a sexy assassin. He and his team keep the law in Angor. When the learn of Maddy's kidnapping. They set out to rescue her, but first they need to locate. Where Praevus is hiding her! You will love this super exciting, and steamy hot Paranormal Romance series. This is a five star plus story.
To say the two main characters change during the book would be an understatement. They bicker, challenge, and make each other better beings. The supporting characters are great too. Freki is so endearing and comical. Ohngel/Roark and Indigo are pure entertainment. There are several others, and they all add layers to the story. Just when you think you know what direction things are going to go, another unexpected event occurs. The love story between a hardened winged assassin and a strong-minded human is great, with numerous romantic moments. What they are willing to endure and do for their other half is remarkable and enviable for those in lesser relationships. This ends with multiple, very large cliffhangers, and I'm anxious to see where things go from here!.

Things are not always what they seem, so many secrets, actions, an endless cat and mouse chase to find answers as the mysteries unfold and take you deeper and deeper in this twisted first book of the series which will keep you on the edge of your seats.
A great build up to the world they are in, the characters are amazing, some surprises with some witty and sizzling moments between Madeline and Dom until they get to their HEA with an ending that will leave you needing more answers as you eagerly await the next in the series.
I am a fan of this author and she never fails to please with her storylines!.

Winged Assassins, talking wolvers, creepy mind rats, immortals, scourges... while the list of new characters and their intricacies is introduced, the main story follows the kidnapping of librarian Maddie and the consequences of her presence in OneWorld, specifically Angor. A human in the wrong place causes chaos. But more than that, causes thoughts of reality to be questioned and rebellion to be hinted at. How did she arrive? Who brought her through the gate? Why was she chosen? When did she arrive? What is the purpose? It very much helps if you have read The Blood Coven series, or at least book 5 in the series: The Phoenix, but if you have not, this first story in a new series can be read as a stand-alone.
