Ellie Monae never imagined she’d find herself in Clinton, North Carolina. Reluctantly visiting her mom and stepdad, she’s far from thrilled to leave the bright lights of Las Vegas for the quiet charm of a small town. But when her taxi kicks her out just outside of town, Officer Colton Bennett, a handsome, rugged cowboy, comes to her rescue, offering a hand—and a ride—to help her reach her destination.
As Ellie spends more time in Clinton, she begins to embrace the slower pace of life, finding peace in the town’s warmth and simplicity. Colton shows her the beauty of North Carolina, and Ellie starts to fall for more than just the town's charm. She’s captivated by the quiet strength and effortless charisma of a cowboy who’s as steady as the large trees around him.
With her heart torn between the fast-paced life she knows and the new, adventurous possibilities unfolding before her, Ellie must decide if she’s ready to trade the city for a future with Colton—and a love as enduring as the land he calls home.
This is a story of love, fear, and finding a home in the most unexpected places, Charm of a Cowboy is a swoon-worthy cowboy romance about risking everything for the right person.
Trena VanHoff has been spinning stories since she was a child—always with a book in one hand and a notebook filled with ideas in the other. Today, while building a career in the medical field, she dedicates every spare moment to her passion for writing. Based in Utah with her husband, two lively sons, and an impressive pack of four dogs, Trena’s heart still beats to the rhythm of her California roots.
She dreams of making the bestseller list and even imagines the thrill of her work landing on Reese Witherspoon’s BookClub. Yet, what truly excites her is the idea of her books traveling from one eager reader to the next—each well-worn page and dog-eared spine a testament to the love of reading, much like the cherished novels that once inspired her.
When she isn’t penning her next great story, you might find her sipping a diet Dr. Pepper, sharing laughter with her family, or losing herself in a captivating book. Stay tuned—her next tale is one you won’t want to miss!
The Charm of a Cowboy by Trena Van Hoff is a sweet, small town summer romance full of cowboys, country music, and second chances. Ellie travels to the small town of Clinton, North Carolina to visit her Mom, and ends up falling for the local officer and small town cowboy, Colton. Love wasn’t on Ellie’s agenda - she was only supposed to stay in Clinton for a week before returning to her corporate job in Las Vegas, but Colton has her questioning all of her plans.
This was a fun, lighthearted romance set in a quaint, North Carolina town. I love small town cowboy romances, so this book was right up my alley! I did find the first 70 pages or so to be a bit slow. However, once we met Ellie’s family and the friends her Mom had made in Clinton, I quickly fell in love with this cast of characters who truly wanted to help Ellie feel at home.
Colton was the definition of a golden retriever boyfriend. He was such a gentleman to Ellie and showed her all that life has to offer outside of work. I loved watching their connection grown when he took Ellie to her first rodeo. He was so patient with her and never once doubted her. He saw her as more than just a city girl, and fell in love with who she was underneath all of that. It did feel a bit fast/ insta lovey, that they had fallen for each other over the span of a week, but I am nothing if not a hopeless romantic, so I found myself rooting for the pair!
Eventually, the time comes where Ellie must choose between the carefully planned life she’s built for herself in Vegas and what it would mean to start over with Colton in Clinton. I’m not typically a huge fan of third act break up scenes, but I didn’t mind this one, and I do think it made sense for the plot and added a complexity to our FMC and MMC’s relationship.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read, perfect for summer or a day at the beach! 4/5 stars for me!
Thank you to Trena Van Hoff for sending me an ARC of her novel, The Charm of a Cowboy!
I had the pleasure of ACR reading "Charm of a Cowboy," and it truly is a heartwarming love story. Initially, the pacing felt a bit slow, but once I got going and I immersed myself in the story and the evolving relationship between Ellie and Colton, it transformed into something so sweet and captivating. Ellie faces personal challenges that require her to make significant decisions, and throughout the journey, you'll find yourself cheering for both her and Colton until the very last page. The relatable characters and uplifting cowboy romance beautifully capture the essence of southern charm and resilience.
This book was beautifully written, and really gives you all the feels - you can feel the longing, the heartache, the joy and the love between the two main characters - Ellie and Colton! This book is perfect if you are looking for a romance book that is so heartfelt and genuine feeling - this story kept reminding me of how my husband and I fell in love! So so sweet! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!
I really enjoyed the characters and their development, although I wish it had progressed a bit faster. It didn't completely consume me, which is why I gave it 4 stars. The writing was strong, with no awkward repetitions.
I appreciated the PG tone, making it perfect for my teen to enjoy as well.
Overall, it's a charming small-town romance that feels like a Hallmark movie!
