I will do anything to join the Perfect Parent Club. Even if it means swallowing my pride and joining up with my kid’s sexy new teacher to win the PTA end-of-term competition.
As if single-handedly bringing up a six-year-old isn’t enough of a ballache, I’ve only gone and gotten myself signed up to help with the summer fête. The challenge? To raise as much money as possible so that the school can build a new playground.

★★★★. Thank you so much to the author and Love Notes PR for this arc! This was my first time reading this author and I can say if she has more works coming out, sign me up! A very cute, cozy with a little angst single dad MM romance that hit the spot perfectly.
Alex and Nate were two characters that happened to catch a crush on each other and when the timing aligned both of them weren’t stopping. They got together fairly quick in this book and I do wish we got more backstory. They do spend a majority of this book apart but also together? Both Alex and Nate have to grow and actually communicate to get into a relationship and I think the time apart was needed.
The reason for it not being 5 stars is because of Alex’s mom. I did not like her. I do not forgive her. She was completely out of line and didn’t care for her own son that was around. I liked all the brothers yet I wish they spoke up more and defended their brother. The third act here hurt because both wanted each other so much but Alex let his mom get in his head too much which was understandable.
For my safety people, completely safe. Alex has been celibate since his last relationship almost a year ago. Nate was unknown but I’m thinking celibate since moving to the town so for a months at least. They both have experience. Anymore I say, can be a spoiler but know it’s completely safe!

I adored this cosy M/M romance, you can feel the love for these characters jumping off the page. It had swoony moments, hilarious encounters, awkward interruptions, lots of delightful wit, a touch of spice, and some tragic reveals.
It had me giggling at Alex's antics, and his fumbling attempts at hiding his crush on Nate, as well as his inner monologue addressing his doubts, meddling family, fears and expectations as a parent, and conflicted desires.
The mature characters felt relatable and genuine, and I loved seeing their connection grow.
Rory is the sweetest child too, full of energy, curious, mischievous, and adorably accepting of everything in his life which was heartwarming.
I enjoyed the reveals dotted throughout that added to the drama and tension, and seeing Alex gain the courage to stand up for himself.
The theme of the school fête bringing them together was cosy and sweet, and helped them to connect and learn about each other's passions and embrace their feelings.
This is the cosy summer romance you need to read.

Cute, cosy, summer M/M romance 🌟
"You've turned my world upside down, Mr Jameson. I didn't know I could be as happy as you make me. I know that I come with a lot of mess, chaos and noise, as well as a six year old, but I promise that me and Rory will make your life worth it. Even if you'll never have a moment's peace again."
Now, I really absolutely adored both Alex and Nate! Some scenes had me annoyed at them and I was screaming COMMUNICATION but that's what made the book so relatable that a lot of couples struggle with communication. Their chemistry was electric from day one and there was some spicy scenes! Now, one person I really did not like was Alex's mum. I was eye rolling and huffing throughout but I loved seeing Alex's character's growth and eventually standing up for himself! I loved Rory and how open he was to life and accepted everything thrown at him! There were funny scenes, sad, emotion scenes, naughty scenes, happy scenes and hilarious scenes! It had it all!

Unfortunately this book did not do it for me.
There was no growth for either of the MMCS and they both refused to speak on how they felt which made for a lot of miscommunication.
The plot was there , and I could see the vision but overall it bored me.

Thank you to Love Notes PR for sending me this ARC for an honest review.
I went into this book thinking I was going to get a fun and cozy story. I was then hit with every emotion known to man. Is it cozy? Yes! Is there comedy? Yes (pancakes IYKYK) Did I get secondhand embarrassment at the aftermath of the pancake scene? YUP! But overall I found this to be a really enjoyable story about Alex and Nate. Rory is an absolute Goober and I loved every time he got to run around in one of his marvel superhero costumes. Rory has main character energy, and I’d like to see if this author has any other plans for him (teenager Rory is going to be a force to reckon with).
On another note, this book has spice. Not a lot, but enough for what the story needed. And I will say the Spice was SPICEY. ;)
Okay, now for my reason for docking a star. If you like the miscommunication trope, then this book will be for you. I am all for the trope, but I found there to be just a little too much for me. I wish I knew about how heavy the trope was in the book before going into it. So now that you’ve all been warned, go read Call it Fete!

What a cute and cosy read!!
This fantastic short MM romance was just the break I needed from my fantasy reads.
It's about Alex, a gay man in a small town trying to raise a 6yo on his own.
I really loved Alex's large family, and the relationships they had with one another.
Even though this book is a MM, I honestly feel it was so relatable as a straight female. All of Alex's struggles and intrusive thoughts are too real. We are all just trying to do our best for our kids and sometimes we can forget ourselves along the way.
This was a short one at only 271 pages and was a light and fun read. Even if it did make me tear up 🫣😭

I LOVED the book at first and it went downhill fast. By the end of it, I was just annoyed.
It's one pov (which I hate) and it's a lot of internal monologue.
At first I really enjoyed it. I loved the way Alex talked and his faux pas at their first meeting was funny and cute. I also really enjoyed that the author showed a real family, not a picture perfect one.
Speaking of family, I hate his mother. Wow what a horrible person.
Normally I'm envious of these big loving families that are often portrait in books. That wasn't the case here. I'm not a fan of his family, his brothers were okay but I don't know, I didn't feel the love between them. Did I mention how much I hated his mother?
This story was way more angsty than I thought. It was an up and down for my emotions. I smiled and laughed but I was also pissed off and cried. His self pity was tiring, though as someone with mental health issues, I get why he is the way he is.
I was team Nate from the beginning. Seriously totally adored him, till his secret was revealed. It really pissed me off. Both guys handled things bad. At first it felt like Alex resented Chloe, which again pissed me off.
Did I mention how little I liked his mother? And why is he apologizing to her? Ugh.
The worst part though. They were only together for a day!! They got together, probably in the first third of the book, they spent this amazing day together.
Yay let's be boyfriends but then break up almost immediately? And then they got back together at the end of the last chapter. I personally like romance and smoopiness in my books, not barely-there love. I was hoping that the epilogue would turn it around but nope. The epilogue was just three weeks later and nothing special.
So yeah I was disappointed. It was fun at first but got more and more angsty. Don't get me wrong I love angst in books but it has to be balanced out with a lot of love. That wasn't the case here. Sure there was longing on both sides (I guess at least, because only one fucking pov ugh) but it's wasn't enough love for me.

Alex has always dreamt to be a part of the so called 'perfect parent club' and he is ready to go to any extent to become one of them but he does not know where to start. An opportunity presents itself when his son's school hosts the Fete where the parents are required to team up with a teacher and arrange stalls of different items. Alex sees this as an opportunity to prove himself to everybody- his son, his family, to the entire world-that he is an amazing father. Little did he know that this fete will forever change his life-for the best. Cupid struck when he met the teacher he was to be paired with - Nathaniel Jameson- Nate- and he swiftly took the breath out of Alex's lungs. Its a story of Alex-who had made it his entire life's mission to live only and only for Rory, his son, and never think about himself. It a story about Alex who found himself unexpectedly in love with his son's teacher and for the first time in years, lived for himself.
This book by Lowri Charles is a perfect blend of fun, romance, family and comedy. If the regular heavy books have tired you out, try this and I'm sure it wont disappoint. The genre of this book is boy-love which isn't my regular genre or something that i prefer but this book was something new and refreshing for me. There is always something fun going on in the book. You will find yourself laughing the entire time-even if that means laughing at Alex for being an absolutely adorable embarrassment. The family dynamics is what made me love this book. The family values have been retained and so has the essence of brotherhood. Not to mention the plot twist at the end. YES, THERE IS A MIND BOGGLING PLOT TWIST WHICH I DID NOT SEE COMING. So when i say this is a complete package, i really mean it.
Keeping in mind that it is Lowri's debut book, the work is absolutely admirable and to say that i expect nothing but greatness from her will be true. I can see her potential reflecting off the pages of these books and I'm waiting for more of her work to read and enjoy.

Eight reasons to read Call It Fête:
1) That play on words in the title is a subtle work of genius.
2) Alex, the main character, Mr no-brain-cells-only-horny, is a chubby man in his mid-thirties. He’s short and wears glasses and is one of the hottest things in East Beechmill, and he’s the funniest, most relatable narrator.
3) Speaking of funny, the pancake batter scene lives rent-free in my head. I still cannot believe that happened and am mortified and delighted every time I think about it.
4) Nate, hottest of the hot librarians, has zero brain cells but is so good at pretending otherwise he’s got everyone convinced he’s a functioning human being.
5) The relationship between Nate and Alex is so sweet and organic and flirty, just plain gorgeous and made all the more gorgeous by the bumps they meet along the way. The conflict feels real and natural, and the characters’ reactions to it are always true to their personalities.
6) I love the whole Webster family. Rory is cute as hell and a well-rounded kid character, which is rare. Alex’s brothers are the bane of his existence and the best things in his life. His dad has maybe two, three bits of dialogue and each one is stellar. His mum is a piece of work but with excellent characterisation, and the conflict between her and Alex is blood-boiling and therapeutic in equal measure.
7) The plot twists had me going ‘oh shit’ out loud, and the foreshadowing is going to make rereads really fun.

Such a cute and cozy read! I swear, I’ve found my new catnip—and it’s this book.
I absolutely adored Nate and Alex. Their story was so easy to fall into, like slipping into your favorite blanket on a rainy day. It felt like a warm hug from beginning to end, and when I reached the last page, I genuinely wished there was more. The author did such a great job capturing the little things—the awkward moments, the banter, the tension, and yes, the spice. They were perfect.
And of course, there is Rory. Total scene-stealer in the best way. I loved every character in this book (except Alex’s mom. She can exit stage left, thanks).
The reason this isn’t a five-star read for me is the miscommunication, it really got to me. There was quite a bit of it, and it left me feeling frustrated more than once. All I wanted was to lock Nate and Alex in a room and make them talk everything out properly. It dragged on a little too long for my taste. And then there’s Alex’s mom. I hated her. Honestly, there was nothing redeeming about her character. She was cruel and completely out of line, and every time she showed up, I just wanted to skip the page. Her presence really soured some of the moments for me.
Overall, I still really enjoyed the book. The romance was sweet, the characters were lovable (aside from her), and it still left me with a smile on my face!

Perfect little palate cleanser I didn’t even realize I needed after binging four heavy reads back-to-back. This short MM romance might be small in size, but it’s packed with so much heart, humor, and realness that it completely swept me off my feet.
I found Alex’s struggles and intrusive thoughts so incredibly relatable. Parenting, adulting, trying to balance your own needs while doing your best for your kid; it’s messy, exhausting, beautiful chaos, and Charles Lowry captured it perfectly.
Now, throw in a crush on the hot teacher at your kiddo’s school, and you’ve got all the awkward, adorable tension you could ever want. Especially since poor Alex already managed to embarrass himself in front of Nate before getting paired with him for the school’s big fête fundraiser. Firstly, I’d like to say thank you so much for letting me experience this book! It was a delightful, feel-good, laugh out loud read!

I loved the characters and how the relationship grew- slowburn done right!! The writing style was easy to understand and makes for a really quick read! The length of the story was just right as well! The characters were somewhat relatable and Rory was such a cute little kid on paper!
It is an open door romance and the spice and build up was done to perfection! Not too quick and not drawn out.
My favourite scene of the book has to be the infamous pancake scene 🥞 IYKYK! It literally made me laugh out loud! It was so funny!!
The only thing that would’ve made this book more engrossing is if it was dual POV- I would’ve liked to have had a bit of Nate’s experience as well! But that’s didn’t deter from the story!

I am not much of a romance/ spice reader but I knew I was going to make an exception for this one.
Single dad Alex has an instant crush on his kid Rory's teacher Nate, when he sees him at the PTA meeting. Little did he knew that Mr. Jameson's feelings were similar. Fate happens and they are both paired up to run a stall for the school Fete. As they spend more time together, they know they want to be with each other, until Alex's mum thinks it's a bad idea to get involved with Rory's teacher. Things were going so well and now Alex isn't sure and breaks things off. He wants to do right by Rory.
Will they get back together? Will Alex get the guy of his dreams? Read and find out.

I received an ARC copy from Lowri Charles and Love Notes PR, this was a gorgeous read.
I am a romance reader. Call it fete wasn’t a chore to read like some romance books for me are! I think at least part of that is the attention to what a healthy relationship dynamic looks like in the book, and one might think that would ruin the tension, but it didn't!
Alex, our MMC, is very relatable. I loved his humour which runs through the narrative, making even the most common place descriptions amusing!
His insecurities are understandable and place you squarely on his side and you can’t help but root for him and Rory, his son.
Rory is so well written. He really feels like a whole little human. Lowri doesn’t rely on cute tidbits to make you like this sweet little boy, but gives him a well rounded personality that pulls you in.
The cast as a whole feel so well rounded, like the author knows each and every family member! I would read so much more about the Mill crew, and Nate and Alex’s ongoing story. And not just for the sexy librarian!

I had such a lovely time reading Call it Fēte, it's one of those cozy books that I imagine reading by a fire with a hot chocolate, or in a field on a picnic blanket with a jug of lemonade 🍋
I really resonated with Alex, he is definitely the one I am most like out of all of the characters, clumsy, a romantic, dives headfirst into everything I do and cares too damn much what people think about them.
I loved that even though this book revolves around having a child/ children they are not shoved in your face with overly dramatic behaviour, the children in this book may be bratty sometimes but there is so much more to their character than the fact that they are children.
this was my first MM romance and I loved it! I will definitely be making sure to add more to the neverending TBR 😅
Lowri Charles did such an incredible job writing this book, she created characters I could connect to people I already know or that I could imagine being in my life, their rollercoaster of a life came alive on these pages 📖
I am so excited for this Christmas when book 2 is out ☺️✨

This story is funny, sweet, and charming! I loved diving into this world and watching Nate and Alex's relationship develop throughout the story. Alex is a single parent trying to be what his son, Rory, needs while feeling like he's disappointing everyone. Nate is Rory's hottie teacher, with whom Alex is paired during a contest to host the booth during the Fete that makes the most money for the school. As their working relationship develops, Nate brings Alex out of his self-doubt and makes him see he is enough for everyone, including Nate.
So many funny moments in this story had me laughing out loud. I also loved the family dynamics between Alex and the rest of the Webster family. The portrayal of the semi-toxic mom was so spot on! This is a great read to add to your roster of summer romances!

This was such a great LGBT small-town romance that I thoroughly enjoyed! I won't list all the tropes because I know that annoys some people but it was such a good combination that worked so well together.
I adored our characters, particularly Alex, 6-year-old Rory and his brothers. I would say whole family but I really wasn't keen on his mum for most of it, although that's completely intentional and I did really enjoy her arc. Rory was such a cute child, I loved him! It was a nice change having a romance with only a single POV (Alex's) because it worked much better for some of the main story points which I loved. Nate was also a lovely character and I really liked them together. They had a few difficult circumstances between them, with Nate being Rory's teacher mainly, it was nice to see how they eventually overcame everything to be together.
I really enjoyed Lowri's writing and am definitely keen to pick up more of her books in the future! I'll be keeping an eye out.

This book is such a cute and cozy read with the slow burn of the characters relationship. The flow in this book was fantastic. I was hooked by the first page.
There’s something that can be found relatable in these characters. Their background stories pull on your heartstrings. The humor timing is on point within the story. Alex’s one liners are just chef’s kiss.

It’s been a while since I read a M/M romance, but this one was a really really good one. The characters were relatable and both completely adorable, with a lot of depth and emotion to them.
Alex was juggling his duties as a single guardian to his adorable nephew Rory and trying to avoid judgment from his mother and perfect brothers. His nephew’s teacher, Nate, is the best-looking guy in the village, but he’s still embarrassed from parents’ evening when instead of shaking his hand, he hugged Nate instead. When they are paired up together to design the best stall for the school fete, things could get awkward.
Instead, things progress really quickly to them ending up in bed together but then things slowly start to unravel. They still have to work together but they are both juggling personal issues that stop them making their relationship a priority.
There is a lot of miscommunication involved in this story, sometimes it’s necessary but sometimes it is a bit dramatic and convoluted. Overall I enjoyed the book, just wanted to shake them both at times and say oh just get over it.

Alex has developed a crush on Nate, who just happens to be a teacher at the village school. The school that Rory, Alex's nephew, who lives with him, goes to. When Alex is paired with Nate to come up with an idea for a stall at the upcoming school fète, he can't believe his luck.
There is so much life in this book. The reality of a couple who are trying to figure out a relationship whilst battling with all of the everyday crap, like feelings, work, kids, family, and miscommunication.
The way that the author wrote the nervousness, the elation that you feel when the object of your desire reciprocates your feelings, and then the self-doubt was simply astounding.

I really enjoyed reading this. It helped snap me out of a slump which was very welcomed.
I will say that reading Alex and Nate's story was a very emotional journey. I went in somewhat blinder than I realized even after reading the trigger warnings. I found that this took turns that I wasn't prepared for and that made the layers of the book so much better in the long run.
Rory stole the show. He was such a pure unscathed soul that should have been the blueprint for how to treat others. I hated that Alex's mom felt the need to over protect and do things the way she did but that's just because I can see from the outside how harmful that is. But it worked here. I really enjoyed the dynamics of all of the siblings and the depth this story had.

Talk about a romance that is so sweet, it might give you a toothache!
I read Call It Fête in about 12 hours straight through (my dates read might not say that, but that's because I started 1 chapter in April, and then sped through the entire thing on May 8th LOL). I was sitting poolside on vacation, sipping a Blue Hawaiian cocktail, and reading about the sweetest queer British couple. What could be more perfect than that? You've got a sexy librarian, a head-over-heels in love dad of one, and an embarrassing meet-cute; I was sold from the first couple of chapters!
I would highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a cozy read where the guy ends up getting the other guy, and you enjoy Clark Kent look-a-likes!

I loved seeing into the mindset of Alex. He was nervous, self doubting, questioning if there was something more to the romance. Nate was the perfect potential partner for Alex and Rory, who was a sweetheart.
I loved the realism of the relationship, the ups and downs, the overthinking, and the difficulty with a parent who is trying to block your happiness. The story was based on just a single day, but the build-up & aftermath were enough to start them both developing feelings. If they can both get out of their own way & give it a chance, that's all they need...

This is a super cute and fluffy M/M romance. For the most part, this book was quite light-hearted and had more than a few funny moments. I found Alex to be really relateable at times. There were definitely a few deeper, darker moments that I hadn't expected, but I feel they added depth to the main characters.

A well written MM cozy romance with interesting and well developed characters.
I found the main characters really relatable. They had such great chemistry, and many really cute, awkward but flirty and hilarious moments. I loved seeing all the characters connect!
I also always love to see queer relationships being represented.
