An amazing read from start to finish. Everything about the story and the characters is truly captivating. The way the author is able to tell about this new world and about each individual character with their history, relationships, quirks, humor, desires, and much more is unique and so creative. The story is written from the perspectives of multiple characters at different points in time but everything is connected so beautifully. I would end one chapter and want to read more about that individual but then couldn't wait to jump back in with the next character. The story builds in a way that keeps you on your toes with surprising twists and turns but also such sweet moments between characters. By the time I was finished I already wanted to know when book 2 would be released. I enjoyed this very much and would highly recommend!

Incredible! One of my favorite books. The character development and world building immediately draw you in. I wanted to jump into this world and live with the characters. The story is absolutely riveting. I had a hard time putting the book down. It is clean, it is funny, it has hard truths. It has love, it has loss, it has twists. I was sad when the book was over because I can't wait for the next one! I found myself reading it again.

From start to finish, you will be captivated. I had so much fun being taken on this magical adventure. This is the type of story that leaves you missing characters after you have finished the book. I think if “Hunger Games” and “Harry Potter” had a love child, it would look something like “Lest They Have Eyes”. Filled with magic, mystery, drama and suspense, you will easily get sucked into this utopian masterpiece. I will anxiously await book number two.

Only a few pages in, the author’s intricate world and fascinating characters had me hooked. I especially loved that when I expected the characters to be goody-two-shoe types, they had twists and turns that added to their depth and the intriguing plot. The story masterfully incorporates themes of faith. The only downside is having to wait for book 2!

Huge fan of strange new worlds and this one is one of the most unique I've come across in a very long time. So much to learn and grow in as each piece of the world is revealed to you through different perspectives of many characters. Plenty of intrigue at the beginning but I found myself truly speeding through each page the deeper I went. A good book has you deeply caring about each character and their future outcomes and this one definitely does that. I finished this book in 3 weeks and that is saying something between parenting 3 children! It leaves you awaiting in anticipation for its next installment. You don't want to miss out on this MUST READ!

Picked this up blindly thinking I’d found a fun new sci-fi to read… only to realize, 360 pages in, that I accidentally grabbed a book by a faith-based author with a really odd vibe.
The book description didn’t hint at any religious undertones, otherwise i never would’ve picked it up since i am not someone seeking christian themes in the fiction i read. It's just weird to not have that mentioned anywhere on the back cover of the book... so i guess consider this your friendly warning: if you’re just looking for a non-religious sci-fi or fantasy book, skip this one.

This book pulls you in with deep characters and big ideas. It’s not just a good story, it’s a book that makes you think about the complexity of relationships, the origin of life and meaning.

One of the best parts of the book is the characters. Each one feels real, with their own hopes, fears, and questions. You care about them, and their personal struggles reflect the bigger questions the book explores.

The world-building is vast and imaginative. It makes you ponder what will possible in future with the growth of technology.

It is an unforgettable book that stays with you long after you finish.

As an avid reader of high-fantasy (Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Anthony Ryan, c.s. Lewis) I deeply appreciate a story in which each character’s perspective is equally as engaging as all the others. I remember so many books where I would almost skim through just to get back to a character whose story I enjoyed more. Not so with this book. Each character has a vibrancy and tone set to them that makes each special. The story itself was difficult for me to immerse myself into, but the characters and their unique contexts kept me eager for their next decision, their next encounter with their powers.

The magic system is exciting and the uncapped potential of the characters abilities make for a very interesting read. I appreciate how unlike other authors who set hard and fast rules to a magic system, Bonivon Dyer allows the reader to discover for themselves the limitations of each Progift.

I am excited to see this promising author continue to find her voice and produce incredibly vibrant worlds for me to immerse myself in. Already looking forward to the next book!!!

“What started as a nuclear war destroyed your civilization, along with most of the planet… out of that war came my world.”

Welcome to Elusis. The new world - post nuclear war. Where perfection is everything, being different is shamed, and the people of the old world are being awakened hundreds of years later to a very different existence. This book hooked me from the very first page and held onto me until the last word. It is Sci-fi/fantasy so perfectly done. Are we sure this is a debut author? Just brilliant.

THE WORLD
You are immediately thrown into the story with Kansis awakening a pod, Amelia, and explaining the new world they live in and why life is structured so differently from before. This world the author has built is fascinating. No detail was spared to help you understand and fully immerse yourself into it. The way the different territories are divided with specific physical features differentiating the people in each one - different hair colors! So cool! I also loved how the new world, Elusis, took things of the old world and attempted to make them “better” and more functional. There idea of love and matching people together through blood was very unique and made for a great part of the story. One of my favorite details is all of the unique “gifts” people have. The future world is different, but you can totally see how the leadership would come to make these decisions based on the failings of our world now - sci-fi at its finest!

THE CHARACTERS
I LOVED all of the characters - more specifically, Kansis. She is the underdog and you can’t help but root for her. I felt like her big sister cheering her on (and getting really pissed at her too) the entire book. The dialogue between her and her subconscious is amazing! I found myself actually laughing out loud multiple times during these scenes. Amelia is fascinating! I cannot figure her out. Between how she is now versus what she is like in the flashbacks has you constantly questioning her motives. I have no words for Aker - my eyes are rolling as I type his name. Pypen is the loyal friend we all wish we had. The Aevii are nutty and creepy! I can’t wait to learn more about Flister and Oaken and all of the immortal leadership. There are just too many phenomenal characters to name, but I’ll end with my favorite - Scout. SCOUT! What a guy. I loved him right from the beginning. He can do no wrong in my eyes. The author wrote his personality perfectly. Oh and what I wouldn’t give to spend a day as part of the Unopened Gifts Circus!

THE STORY
What I loved about the story as a whole is that it is extremely unique - in the best way! Dystopian worlds are a common theme for sci-fi books, yet this is a plot I have not come across. I sometimes don’t like hopping around different characters in each chapter or having flashbacks, but this book was an example of it being done the right way. The story flowed from one thing to another flawlessly. Being taken back in time didn’t disrupt the story, it added to it. The author’s creativity really shines. It is a very immersive reading experience. Every time I had to set the book down, I could not wait to pick it back up and get back into the Elusian world. Each page had me craving for more, wanting to know what was going to happen. And THAT ENDING. Wow, just so good.

This is a book I will not soon forget. The characters and story will stay with me. My only criticism is that the second book is not out yet for me to read! Can’t wait to continue the series!

A Thoughtful Sci-Fi Journey with Heartfelt Characters
"Lest They Have Eyes" by Bonivon Dyer was such a captivating and intriguing read. The book blends thought-provoking sci-fi elements with a deep emotional core that really kept me engaged throughout. I especially enjoyed how the story explores a future where technology impacts privacy and personal freedom—it really made me think about the world in a new way.
The characters were definitely the highlight for me. I loved how well-developed they were, and their backstories and relationships added so much depth to the story. It was easy to connect with them, and I found myself really invested in their journeys. There’s a warmth to the characters that made the book feel more personal and meaningful.
As much as I enjoyed the world-building and the richness of the story, I did find that some of the new names and terms took a little time to get used to. It’s clear that a lot of care went into crafting the world, but there were moments when I had to pause and remember what certain terms meant. Also, the writing has a poetic quality to it, though at times it felt a bit more detailed than I expected, which made the pacing slower in some parts. But I think those details were meant to add depth, and it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the story overall.
All in all, "Lest They Have Eyes" is a beautiful, character-driven sci-fi tale that I really enjoyed. It’s a thoughtful book that stays with you, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good balance of futuristic concepts and rich emotional storytelling.

As a newbie to the sci-fi genre, I did not know what to expect when I started Lest They Have Eyes. It was highly recommended by a friend who promised I would be in awe of the author’s mind and the quality of her writing. My friend was spot-on with her recommendation. I quickly found myself engrossed in the lives of Kansis and Amelia, rooting for their budding friendship right from the start. This book is filled with intrigue, from the characters to the complexity of a new, future world with an intricate governing system, supernatural gifts, and incredible technology. I felt like I did as a child watching the Jetsons thinking, “Like we could really talk to someone on a giant screen” but today I can facetime my grandchild on the other side of the USA! It will be fun to one day to use my Kaixo to keep the government from recording my conversations. I especially loved the traveling circus with all that goes on within its walls and each of the floors. I wanted to jump into the pages and smell the aromas, sit in one of the HugMe chairs and read a book, taste the many cuisines, nonchalantly listen in on one of the Arkahunter conversations, and experience each of the rooms (while collecting all their cards) with their alluring doors and staircases. I, like my friend, highly recommend this book and can’t wait to see where books two and three take us on this remarkable journey of The Blood Maker Fables.

Bonivon Dyer has truly built an amazing world in this first volume of the Blood Maker Fables. This book drew me in from the moment I saw the cover and read the title. I found myself engulfed in the main character, Kansis, and drawn into her as I would a real person. I felt sorrow for the way she was being treated, joy in each of her victories, elation as she found friendship in pod Amelia, and even anxious through her trials. Scout equally drew me in, being so admirable and honest. The Aveii both drew my curiosity as well as pure anger as they sat enthroned as the new world's elite and immortal, yet possessing so much power through manipulation. The circus was enthralling, making me want to actually jump into it, feel the textures and see the outstanding sights and feats of the performers. The whole world in this book is vivid and truly transports me to a futuristic earth where the technology as well as biological advancement is tangible and believable and as if there was a curtain I was passing through, I found myself imagining that I lived in this utopia of "Elusis".
I recommend this book to all who want to be transported to a believable utopia full of new and intriguing sights, sounds, human capabilities, and yet refreshingly relatable obstacles of love, loyalty, and inner struggle. And yes, I do believe that you too will gasp out loud as I did at the end of the this great novel as Bonivon Dyer artistically takes the story in a turn that was not foreseen!

Buckle Up... This Is Quite the Adventure!

This fresh new story takes you on an adventure into a well thought out new world. It's a dystopian novel that doesn't attempt to mimic other dystopian-esk novels. I absolutely love following multiple characters throughout timelines, yet there is very little given away at once... You truly discover the world through their eyes. This novel is under the genre of "Christian Sci-Fi Fantasy", though I would recommend this novel to everyone who enjoys dystopian/Sci-fi/fantasy. This novel doesn't push religion into one's face... Rather it integrates the human condition and depravity of mankind well, through the journey of seeking the meaning of life and for a higher power. The ONLY critique, that may present as more personal, is it was a challenge to hop into the book with a new language and learning the mannerisms of different, fictional cultures. However, I don't mean this in a negative light! As the reader continues to become engrossed into the story, the mannerisms and language dialects flow beautifully. The author has done a wonderful job of creating a different society from others. Such a fun read, anyone who reads it would enjoy it tremendously. Looking forward to the next one!

I’m not much of a reader as it takes a very special story for me to get past page 50. Let me not waste your time and tell it to you straight. I am beyond pleased that I made it to page 49 of Lest They Have Eyes, because that was the moment I was locked in, hooked, and bound! By page 350, I could barely put the book down! As a low effort reader I was surprised when I finished the last page, 628 just a few weeks after starting the book. I wanted to pat myself on the back for reading a 628 page book, but I couldn’t because it’s really just a testament to the author. The world she built was complex, which is not my usual forte, but I found myself effortlessly reading and dying to finish this sci-fi fantasy story! This book has opened my eyes to a genre that I never saw myself getting into! So cheers to the amazing author who has a knack for writing in such a way that any reader or non-reader alike can easily find themselves captivated and falling in love with both characters and the world they live in.

Wow. Just… WOW. That’s all I can say after finishing Lest They Have Eyes, the first book in Bonivon’s Blood Maker’s Fables series. As a die-hard fan of fantasy and sci-fi, this book absolutely blew me away. Every time I opened it, I was swept from my world into the mesmerizing realm of Elusis, where the world-building is rich, immersive, and downright unforgettable. The characters? You’ll get so attached to them that their every twist and turn feels like your own journey. It’s the kind of book you can’t put down, but you almost want to stretch out as long as possible—because you don’t want it to end. And yet, the hardest part? Knowing I’ll have to wait for book two! Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster, a whirlwind of adventure, and characters you’ll be rooting for long after the last page. I highly recommend this book—without a doubt, it’s a 10/10! I’ll be diving into it again and again!

Holy cow this book has immediately dropped to a top spot of 2025 for me! I knew in the first 50 pages that it was one of the best books of the year. No hand-holding was required however everything felt seamless and it flowed perfectly. I must admit that if I lost focus or didn't pay attention I think I would miss things, but this book just captured my attention completely so that was not a worry I had.

I implore people who are lovers of sci-fi, fantasy and futuristic dystopian stories to please please pick this up! Not only is this book incredibly well-written and engaging, but there are also QR codes included which give deeper explanations and information about the terms/world/history, plus there are character descriptions and artwork as well!

I will be gushing about this forever and already cannot wait to re-read it and cement it more in my mind! Huge thanks to Torn Curtain Publishing for letting me read this one!

Now this isn't the kind if book I normally read and yet I was hooked from page 1. I couldn't put it down and that says a lot considering I am a slow reader and have a hard time consistently reading books. The writer makes you feel everything right alongside the characters. The characters themselves are believable, approachable and relatable. For being over 600 pages long it wasn't enough. The very last words leave you wanting so much more! I honestly cannot wait for the second book. In my opinion Lest They Have Eyes is a breath of fresh air. It is a diamond of the instant classic variety in the ever growing sea of smutt that is taking over the literary world. And just for the record this is not smutt.

Bonivon Dyer's *Lest They Have Eyes* has everything a starved reader could want in a book. Her fresh and unique take on the sci-fi genre only acts as a launch pad for a far deeper and personal story. It is stuffed with monsters, superpowers, advanced technology, and undeniable moral dilemmas framed around protagonist who seems so determined to avoid her destiny it only makes sense for destiny to come to her. This is what kept me flipping pages well past midnight. It was refreshing to follow characters who genuinely struggled and grew in times of their turmoil. Paired with a vibrant landscape to explore I'd read this book time and time again and recommend it to any lover of the written word.

I could not put this book down! As soon as you delve in and think that it could not get any better, it surprises you with another twist or turn. It takes place in the near future, where nuclear war has completely changed the world and the people in it. It seems like a premise that would be overused, but the author does such a fantastic job building the world and keeping the story moving with a forward momentum that you become lost in the new world and have to tear yourself away. The characters have a wonderful mix of heartache and mischief that just keeps you rooting for them to finish their quest and unravel the mysteries of their world. 10/10 I will definitely be keeping this one on my shelf for a repeated read!

Brilliant!

I am a sucker for good quality fiction and this story hits on all cylinders

If you enjoyed the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the Inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini, then I recommend this book for your enjoyment.

Dyer’s imaginative take on a dystopian future world is engaging and thought-provoking, the writing style is conversationally descriptive, full of vivid imagery, but not overdone, a very easy read albeit a long one. The unique cast of characters quickly come to life and carry you into an immersive and compelling story arc that I suspect will have you, like me, counting the days until the next book drops.

Bonivon Dyer's book Lest They Have Eyes is a wonderful book full of creative description, unique characters, and eyegrabbing adventure. Dyer's multylayered world is perfect for readers who enjoy having a deep understanding of a world's history, cultures, government, and people. The descriptions used in this book enhance the readers experience by allowing them to be standing right behind the characters themselves. Lest They Have Eyes is full of relatable and yet intriguing characters. The adventures held within this book will hook the readers and ensure they stay to the end of the book. Bonivon Dyer did a wonderful job writing Lest They Have Eyes and definitely deserves a round of applause.

Lest They Have Eyes by Dyer is an exceptional read. The world, the characters, the tension, and the prose draw you into the story from the first chapter. The different point of view characters are equally captivating and unique. The relationship dynamics explored and the depth behind them are strikingly human in a world full of meta humans. I will be eagerly waiting for the second installment to continue the story of this world and characters. You will not be disappointed picking up a copy of Dyer’s book and she will leave you wanting for more answers and conflict between these lifelike, realistic characters.

I really liked following the different story lines and then how it all came together. Author was so descriptive and really painted every scene so well. I looked forward to reading it every night. Im sad I finished and I can't wait for book #2 to come out! I would definitely recommend. 10/10

Such a captivating story! It takes place in a futuristic dystopian society that is created after the destruction of the world. Even though this civilization is advanced, the character’s struggles mirror those we deal with today. The characters were relatable and compelling and the story was unpredictable in the best ways. I can’t wait to finish the series.

Wow, this book was not what I was expecting, in a good way! A dystopian world like I never imagined. One of the best books I have read in a while, and I cannot wait for the next. I love all the different POV’s, each of them just as interesting as the next. The languages, the hair colors, the transportation, all so well-done! I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the 2nd!!!
