Rate this book
THE DEMON TARANTULA IS BACK.

After the catastrophic failure of the Temptation Project, Lucifer exiles Tarantula to hard labor in a remote cavern in Hell. Lilith, a powerful high demon, pays her an unexpected visit. Convinced that teenage humans are the perfect target for focused temptation, Lilith invites Tarantula to join her on The Surface for a second trial of the Temptation Project. Eager to escape her prison and salvage her reputation, Tarantula agrees.

Once stationed in a townhouse in Boston, she schemes with Lilith and the archdemon Balzac to lure two young mortals to their doom. But as Temptation Project II unfolds, nothing is as it seems. Plagued by her duties in a local animal shelter, thwarted by interfering humans, and wary of her co-conspirators, Tarantula grows more anxious by the day. For her, the stakes couldn't be higher.

This time, no souls for Lucifer will mean her end.

I was born in New Jersey and majored in English at Amherst College. After attending Harvard Medical School, I spent twelve years as a general internist and eight years as an adolescent medicine specialist before making the leap to serving as an teacher, advisor, and dean for undergraduates. It was my privilege to engage with students at Washington University in St. Louis, Duke University, and Wellesley College. In addition, for two years I was a member of the staff of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that promotes humanism in medicine around the world. As the director of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, I partnered with health professionals to uphold the importance of compassion in every aspect of medical care.

Throughout my career I worked to encourage and support teens and young adults. Now I enjoy the adventure of writing fiction that showcases their courage and resilience. I live in Boston with my wonderful husband and our two dogs.

Tula is back. The second volume in The Temptation Project series is even better than the first—a high bar. The plot is gripping, the stakes are high. Even more impressive is Lynn White’s skill at portraying the complex personality of a demon who’s drawn to adolescents because she’s one herself (however that developmental stage might relate to the “age” of hell’s denizens). The reader is propelled by the story and the characters but is also given an opportunity to consider weighty issues like free will and the fate of souls. A great read.

White has created a smart, clever, and extremely witty female character named Tarantula who could be an inspiration to any tween or teen. A demon from hell, she is burdened with a terrible character flaw: compassion. Try as she might to lure young people to perform damnable acts that will recruit them to hell, her empathy instead puts her in the crosshairs of Lucifer. A very clever and quite hilarious read, especially as she adapts to her disguise as a human boy.
