After being away from his home in the Florida Keys for nine months, Jesse McDermitt has returned to find his tiny island compound just north of Big Pine Key in disarray. Being away for so long has taken its toll. Not just on Jesse and his family, but also their island.
The part-time caretaker Jesse hired has disappeared without a trace, and many of the systems that made life easier on the island for Jesse and his family needed attention. After weeks of hard work, things are finally back in order, and Jesse receives a cryptic phone call from an associate in Key West, a yacht broker, asking him to come down island and have a look at something he's discovered.
The part-time caretaker turns up dead in a hotel room in Miami and the body count begins to mount. So Jesse brings in the big guns, both figuratively and literally, as their island is under attack. But what Dean Murphy uncovered was just the tip of the iceberg.
When Jesse and his cohorts become involved, it will take every bit of their accumulated experience, cunning, and warrior attitude to cut off the head of the snake and restore order to the rest of the Florida Keys.

Wayne Stinnett’s 30th Jesse McDermitt Book of the Caribbean Adventure Series remains with the same excitement as the prior 29! Stinnett does not disappoint. Ability to weave laid back Key’s living in combination with International elimination of bad guys that normally cannot be touched….. results in a book that keeps you up at night and not put down until Jesse marks it—- The End.
Jesse is back home, but the trouble never ends. Another exciting ride is in store for fans of this series. As always, Wayne doesn't disappoint with this one. And the whole gang is back together in the usual fashion. Fighting the bad guys. Can't wait for the next book. I love seeing Jesse back on island. Hope he stays there for awhile.
I’m so glad that the original 3 book series has turned to 30. Even as a 25 year Floridian myself, how else would I have gotten to know Florida the way I do now? The deep character development in these books genuinely makes me feel like I know each and every one of them intimately and would recognize them if I passed them in the street… or on the water. Thanks for such an incredible series, Wayne. I can’t wait to see what Jesse gets into next!
I have read all thirty novels and am in love with the fictional character of his island family and the women in his life, my favourite being Saavy. They all seem so real, and I especially enjoy his descriptions of his little island and The Rusty Anchor. I recommend this series to all my friends and family, and I might just re-read the entire series again! I also like his Charity series and hope he continues his fiction career!
I always enjoy the Jesse books. You really want to be friends with the people in these books from Jesse to Rusty, to Savannah, the kids, the dogs, and all the peripheral characters who populate the stories. They make up a complete village and then throw in Jesse's island and boats? That's the icing on the cake.
Once again Jesse rides. I have had the distinct pleasure of reading yet another book in the series. Each one has kept me company through my personal battles with metastatic bone cancer, and the subsequent surgeries. These stories have filled my recovery time with adventures I had only imagined before. Excellent story lines, believable characters, and knowledgeable descriptions draws the reader into not putting the book down. During my almost 3 year battle with Sarcoma, Jesse and his band of compatriots have eased my journey by taking away my daily "dealing with the devil". When an author comes a!omg who's writings places you at the scene of each chapter, you want more, and more...fortunately, Wayne delivers. Thanks for taking me away from my troubles....I look forward to more of his writings...until then I will just have to re-read some of his earlier works. Oh, and being a almost 50 year veteran of martial arts training, few books are as realistic in their battle scenes and descriptions as Mr. Stinnetts.
Jesse is not so environmentally conscious after all
I've been enjoying all of your books so far. But I'm disappointed in your portrayal of Jesse in this book as a petty juvenile "rolling coal" on a thoughtless driver who passed him and was later pulled over by an officer. Even though you made a point to say that Jesse waited until he passed the officer's cruiser, the disgusting black smoke would still be drawn into the car by the cruisers air system. But even worse, intentionally polluting the air in the keys environment does not fit in with the moral character you have crafted for Jesse. Maybe he is not such a respectable person after all. He no longer acts honorable when reacting like a high school bully boy to some other juvenile guy driving irresponsibly. Worse yet you make excuses for him.
I'm sorry to say this series is beginning to run dry. Half of "Down Island" is dedicated to getting to the point. This half is painfully detailed in fluff that has no connection to the story line (the second half). Various characters, developed in previous books, are dropped in then disappear with no reason or connection to the plot. I began to wonder who created this book. I have read all 30 books in this series and this edition just didn't fit. When the action did finally begin, it was bizarre. Multiple intellectually challenged assassins trying to approach an island at midday surrounded by reefs and 50 caliber machine guns? The ending seemed all together thrown in and unsatisfying. Maybe it is time to end this series before the readers end it. Its been a good run up to now.
This one has a bit of everything - well written, brief recaps of past characters and plots (and boats/planes) sprinkled throughout the current quick moving storyline. Felt a bit like coming home to the island, with good friends hanging out and taking care of the bad guys with extreme prejudice. LOVED IT!
I loved the magnificent detailed, descriptive writing rehashing almost the development of the whole series. (This book could well be read out of order and early to show where the series has gone). However, as much as I enjoyed it, it was too abrupt an ending that left me wanting for as much detail to the closure as the buildup!
Another solid hit for Wayne Stinnett. His main characters are fierce and determined to see justice done to those people who hurt (and do worse to) innocent others. And when they try to attack Jesse and his family and friends on his island, they get their just desserts. I wish there were more people like him in this world.
Most exciting book I've read in a while and I read constantly! Pulling in a case of favorite and capable characters, you'll love the comraderie and a story that is exciting right to the final page! This book is a mustread!
Wayne never lets me down! From the first book to now, and the additional series from characters in the Jesse McDermitt series, every read has only gotten better. Truly a masterpiece of fiction!
I can never get enough of Jesse McDermott! His adventures are always exciting, and never a dull moment. I hope Wayne S tinnett continues to keep us entertained! I grew up in the Homestead/Miami area, spent plenty of time in the Keys !
Wayne you did it again. I love all of Jesse McDermott books. I like it when you bring back old friends. I love the key west settings so much .I plan on visiting soon. Can't wait for your next book.
I love Jesse, family and team. Also Tank. The way you write always makes me feel a part of it all and I wish I could live their lifestyle on the Island. Fantastic storyline and characters. Keep em coming.
Another great book by Mr Stinnett! I got so caught up with the attempted hit on Jesse's life, I almost forgot about the counterfeit currency that Jesse was going to investigate. Hopefully, we'll see that continued in the new book.
Wayne, Down Island is the best I've read in awhile. Jesse, Rusty and all the older characters made it feel like a reunion. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Can't wait to see what trouble they find next.
This book was, I believe, hands down the best of the series in both plot and writing techniques! Your writing abilities have just gotten better and better! Keep it up, Wayne. Jessie still has adventures to take and bad guys to put down.
Seemed like a forever wait for this one and the wait was definitely worth it. Another great job Wayne and another great adventure for Jesse and the whole crew.
A bit to much back ground on past characters. Half the book tells you about everyone in his past. Then finally he Gey go the meat of the book. After twenty-nine books we know everyone.
I love that Jesse was back home and willing to fight again! I keep wondering who might become his mentee. Will it be Alberto or is another “young” man going to arrive?
Wayne’s boos are always exciting. You can almost Jesse in the heat of a battle. You can Jesse is a hardened warrior. Always fighting for those less fortunate. And always protecting those he loves.
Good read Stinnett puts you there we we at the party at the Anchor and with the attack on Jesse’s island along with the takedown he is a very descriptive author I enjoyed this book a lot. Waiting for the next one
These just get better and better! Hurray for the good guys!
I lve the team work and prat all military men/women have this kind of friendship and backing! Please let Jesse help his friends with the sub and discover other treasures!
Love, love how all the characters we have grown with are included. Great adventure story. The bad guy got what he deserved. Anxiously awaiting for 31. Also, hope to see another Charity adventure.
Another adventure involving old friends and yes old enemies. What is the old adage? That revenge is best served cold. Jesse and friends find out how true this is.
