He closed the distance between them, lifting her up and laying her down across the long table. That site of all those family dinners. And here it was, this perfect mockery of the familial connection they had never been able to feel. Only hatred, mingled with extreme desire. Extreme need. All of it playing out now, in the most decadent way.

Solid modern HP, & much better than Millie’s most recent releases (hopefully signaling a return to her consistent higher quality). This was on the spicy end of the Harlequin scale—lots of angry sex with power dynamics play—& I liked how both MCs took turns being in the more dominant bedroom role. 😈 These two are well-matched in age, personality, & energy; no doormats or betas here, which is a nice change. The story is balanced** with flashbacks to show the evolution of their dynamic, but neither MC exists on an island; there’s strong chemistry between them, but they both have jobs, they both have parents they love, & they both feel responsible for the pregnancy & are determined to see the future child isn’t used as a weapon against each other. So…they’re angry & melodramatic, but not to the point where there’s a disconnect from mature realities. (I mention this because I’m so tired of “adults” in their late 20s who think & act like idiot teenagers. 🙄 An Adult label is more than just spice, authors.)

Anyhoo. 🙈 Solid 4 stars; quite enjoyable despite a brief draggy portion in the middle.

**Though I wish their anger had persisted a bit longer, because that tense stepsibling attraction was delightfully angsty. Bwahaha.

Yes, innocent heroine but the writing is too modern for me. I am not into sub/dom kinky stuff. i prefer my Harlequins old fashioned.

Normally I don't write reviews, but for this hot mess, I'll make an exception. I miss the days when most Harlequin Presents novels with characters who hated each other were clean. Now many Presents novels are erotic, some bordering on sado-masochism. Somehow, authors and readers are brainwashed to believe that bullying, cruelty, and emotional abuse is romantic. Well, its not. The MMC is handsome. He bullies the MFC. She eventually stands up to him and is cruel in return. They "hate" each other so much, they have sex on a table. The end result is that she is pregnant, by her stepbrother. Yep, stepsibling hookups is tittalating. There is nothing on God's green earth worth sacrificing your self worth for a hateful, bullying man. His good looks and wealth don't excuse his behavior. Although she isn't a doormat, she is equally weak and stupid for having sex with him. I stopped reading at page 70. This couple is in a toxic relationship with an unborn child. I wasted my money on this crap. I don't recommend this book to anyone with common sense.

A fun, engrossing read that I read in one sitting!

Heir of Scandal is an intense, passionate story between a housekeeper’s daughter and the billionaire son of her new stepfather. It is a love story that spans over a decade, with the past briefly mingling with the present to give readers a full, well-rounded look at this compelling, confused, richly complicated, and wholly stubborn couple. Like all of Adams’s work, this book is well-written, engaging, and filled to the brim with emotional depth, forbidden need, and high-stakes drama.

I Thought I Would Be Turned Off By The Relationship, But Ms Adams Brought Me Around. It’s A Love Hate Relationship Filed With Aguish. I Didn’t Think I Would Like The Bully H, But In The End I Felt Sorry Because He Had Such A Crappy Mom. I Would Probably Have Given The Story 5 Stars Because It Was Compelling Enough That I Finished It In A Matter Of Hrs, But I Didn’t Like The Way The Epilogue Was Rushed Over.
