Haven Ever After #8

Misbehaving With Minotaurs

Rate this book
CATHERINE
When celebrity skyball star Manorin Longhorn arrives in Ever to interview for our coaching position, I have one rule—don't engage. He's my ex from centuries past, a brash male whose heart I shattered when I walked away, and it would be completely inappropriate for me to date a prospective employee.

But the moment I see Nor again, the chemistry is undeniable, and I'm in big trouble since he's staying at the Annabelle Inn right under my nose. When he offers me a sexy no-strings arrangement, telling me I deserve a little fun, I know he's right. We settle on just one rule—all fun, no feelings.

Those horns still make the perfect handlebars, and the way Nor bends me over his desk proves some things never change. But this older, more experienced version of him doesn't just take—he commands with quiet dominance and devastating control, and I'm helpless to resist the delicious surrender.

Lingering looks and stolen trysts quickly turn into something that feels dangerously close to true romance. This isn't the reckless male I once knew; this Nor is older, more confident, and everything a succubus could want in a partner. Our arrangement was only supposed to be a filthy secret for a few weeks while he's in town, but tender moments and the way he supports me threaten to undo everything I've built to protect my heart.

Time is running out. Ever's not the only haven courting Nor for a coaching position, and every scorching night together brings us closer to goodbye. When it becomes clear that our fling is so much more than just a dirty little secret, Nor asks for a chance to win my heart again.

But so much hangs in the balance if our love fails. He says sometimes second chances are worth the risk, but if I surrender completely and he leaves, will there be anything left of me to salvage?

Misbehaving with Minotaurs is a steamy second-chance romance where there's a guaranteed happily ever after! It is the eighth and final book in the bestselling Haven Ever After cozy but spicy monster romance series!

4.75 ⭐️ I'm crying, what do you mean it's over?

I can't believe the Haven Ever After Series is done. I looooved this series with all my heart, and to end it with Catherine's book was just genius. We'd been waiting, panting and gagging for sweet, badass Catherine's love story for foreverrrrr. And omg, it did not dissapoint.

Catherine and Manorin have a past. They were together when they were young, and after a few hundred years apart, where life, mistakes and moves have changed them, they find themselves living under the same roof on the Annabelle Inn. Much has changed in the decades they've spent apart, but their chemistry and desire for one another is one thing that could never change.

I'm so happy with the ending of this series, I legit could cry rn. Nor calling Catherine 'Sunshine' was eeeeverything, and the whole thing with the Annabelle was so cute too! Evenia got what she deserved af far as I'm concerned, even if I could have waited to see a bit more of that particular showdown with but what can you do.

Overall, I am sad it's over, but I am so, so happy to know we're not leaving the world forever!

🌶🌶🌶 /5: I know the cover looks cute and all, but this book is about a Succubus and a Minotaur falling into a friends-with-benefits thing as they reunite so... There's a lotttt of smut. Good, great smut. But you know... beware!

Misbehaving With Minotaurs is a friends-with-benefits monster romance and the final installment in the Haven Ever After Series. Following succubus Catherine, who has never left Ever due to her duties and hasn't been mated in years since her previous mate's betrayal, an old flame comes to town for a job opportunity and promises Catherine everything she needs with no strings attached. Manorin "Nor" is a minotaur who is excellent at coaching skyball, and Ever's team needs to be rebuilt from the bottom up. However, Nor never got over Catherine, and feelings quickly came right back in their steamy arrangement.

I love this series so much, and I've been waiting for Catherine's book since I met her allllll the way back in book one. Was I excited that this book was the last in the series? No, I wanted it to go on forever so I'd have a million guilty pleasure reads. Was I excited that the final book was minotaur smut? Not really. I'm not into heavy monster romance, and so far all the books in this series have had human-adjacent love interests, so having a bullman did throw me off, per se, but it really wasn't as scary as it could have been, THANK GOD. I get nervous with animal-related monsters because the line of it crossing over to bestiality is thin, but I should've known Hazel Mack would never disappoint me.

Nor is probably my favorite MMC in this series. They had ZERO problems together, bro was romantic as hell, and just the way he knew exactly what Catherine needed was so refreshing. He called her super cute and endearing nicknames that were never overused and actually felt like they could be a real couple. They just didn't feel fake.

I didn't give this a four-star rating because it just doesn't stick out to me, even though the smut was just fine, and while the romance was very healthy, it didn't give me anything in the ways other books in this series have. It's a very STRONG three-star book, though, and by no means is it bad. I got everything I wanted out of this book and more. As someone who went in with low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this. It only took me so long to read because I wasn't picking up my Kindle every night.

My only complaint is that I wish this book had rounded out the entire series a bit more. Although this series is made up of interconnected romances, I wouldn't recommend reading it out of order as the characters and storylines ALWAYS cross over, and when I heard this was the final book, I expected a bit more. It's rounded out to a point, but I had the wrong expectations thinking that I would see all the couples from the previous books.

To be honest, it looks like she may write another series set in this universe, which serves almost as a "Season Two" to this series. If that's the case, I can see why things weren't fully finalized!

“Just keep walking in front of me,” I say.
“Best damn view in town.”

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

What you’ll find in this book:
- Inconvenient Feelings
- Second Chance at Lost Love
- Why Can’t We Have it All
- He’s Too Much For Anyone But Her
- He’s The Skyball Coach
- Country Boy x Small Town Girl
- She’s The Older Woman
- No Strings Attached Fling

Of course I adored this book as I have every other single book in this series, I don’t know how we are already at the end of this series and as much as I didn’t want it to ever end, each and every one of these books have been amazing. It felt right that the series ends with Catherine finding her happily ever after when she gets a second chance at love. This book was as I expected it to be the perfect balance of cozy and spicy, the coziness of the town of Ever and its inhabitants have cozy vibes absolutely permeating through the pages, and spiciness that is positively scorching very much requiring a “too hot to handle” sign. I adored getting to read more about the other inhabitants of Ever that we have already met while also having this book tell the story of Catherine and Manorin, how they were once in love in the past and how this is very much their second chance. Alongside this romance, we also get to read as the small town of Ever grows with more monsters wanting a slice of that coziness and happiness that everyone there seems to find.

With Ever growing and Skyball being a huge part of the towns plan they invite celebrity Skyball star Manorin Longhorn to interview for the coaching position, Catherine has only one rule, not to engage. Manorin is Catherine’s ex from centuries ago before she shattered his heart when she walked away knowing they both wanted different things from life, that and that it would be completely inappropriate to date a prospective town employee, right? However, the moment Catherine sees Nor again, the pull she feels towards him is undeniable, and she can’t avoid him considering he is staying at the Annabelle Inn, so when he offers a no strings attachment where they satisfying the cravings they both have for one another it is impossible to say no. Catherine deserves a little fun, and with no risk involved due to their no feelings rule this is nothing but a win win situation, especially when his horns still make the perfect handlebars and finding out he has become more experienced and confident has time has gone on, something that is irresistible to a succubus. Stolen moments and teasing flirtation quickly begins to feel a lot more serious than either of them intended and with tender moments and the way he cares for both Catherine and the Annabelle quickly begins to crumble the walls Catherine has built around her heart. However, with them both still having different aims in life will old mistakes repeat themselves or will they finally decide second chances are worth the risk for a love like they could have.

It feels like we already know so much about Catherine, having been one of the first people we met in the town of Ever, but this book uncovers so much of her as a character and her monster nature. Hazel takes the time to allow us to explore Catherine’s succubus side and what she needs and wants, how finally after everything she has been through Catherine is putting her romance first and I love seeing this side of her and how Manorin is the perfect character to bring this out. Manorin is very much a blast from the past for Catherine, and having known each other from years ago they fall back into each habits quickly with their interactions feeling natural and free from that awkwardness you get from dating someone for the first time. I am obsessed with how confident and smooth Manorin is at all times, he knows exactly what he wants and how to get it. When it comes to Catherine he will stop at nothing to woo her, and damn does he know how to treat a female and give a certain succubus exactly what she needs. I thoroughly enjoyed reading as these two became reacquainted with one another, relearning each other following years apart with different experiences. And of course not only does Manorin woo Catherine but also the Annabelle Inn who was one of my favourite characters, she is sassy and knows exactly what she wants and I love it! Reading as Manorin integrates himself into Catherine’s life, fully immersing himself in the town of Ever, working to get along with all its inhabitants and with how smooth talking he is, it isn’t a challenge.

This story splits itself by both exploring the second chance romance between Catherine and Manorin, as well as the expansion of the town of Ever and the concern of the inhabitants that it is going to loose its small town charm. I thoroughly like how each of the stories link themselves back to the core of the series which is the town of Ever itself. Having said that getting to explore outside Ever with other Haven’s featuring in this book was such a pleasure. Hazel has a knack for giving each Haven its only unique feel, and Pine Gulch with its very western feel including ranches and barn dances was set so differently from Ever it was refreshing. This book felt like it fully brought the series to a beautiful close, and as much as I would have loved more Hazel has done an incredibly job closing this amazing series in a way that I loved and wouldn’t have changed. I am so very excited to see what Hazel writes next, and with the teasers we’ve had I’m so very ready!

Thank you so much to the author for sending me an e-ARC to read and review early.

I am finally free from the shackles of this series!!

Book one and book five were the highlights, book seven was okay. Everything else is skippable, boring or cringe. This one was especially rough because there was so much 'plot'. There are whole chapters where the two main characters don't even interact (up to about page 90). I'm sure some people will like the additional world-building 'plot' she's created- but I really could not care less about skyball and the logistics behind expanding Ever.

Aside from my main gripe noted above, I had a hard time believing in this romance. The second chance is doing most of the heavy lifting on their connection because we don't get much information or page time with them outside of hooking up. Manorin sees Catherine for the first time in centuries and folds immediately (which is fine, he never moved on), but why pretend it's friends with benefits only if he's going to be possessive ('my woman') and force her to go on dates? Just a miss for me.

There was also a missed opportunity for more conflict of Catherine being hesitant about mating again after Wesley. I think that would've had more payoff. This book may have even benefitted from a third-act break-up to be honest... Although Nor is written as too much of a lover boy for that to happen.

Monster romance is inherently suspending belief but the longer this series went on, the worse the romance got for all main character's involved (see Slaying with Slyphs for more).

Back in Ever at last!
It's just like one big comforting hug! All the familiar faces, all the houses, the vibes It's all just perfect!
And we FINALLY got Catherine's story! I have been dying for her story since we met her in book one!
Manorin was perfect for Catherine, they had that chemistry from their past but I love that neither was bitte, just it wasn't the right time but Nor wasn't letting her go this time!
Annabelle was a little matchmaker too with only letting Nor do some jobs that needed doing!
I can't wait to go back home to Ever!

⭐️3.75. I really wanted to like this book more than I did. This is the book that brought me to start the series, and i think I just hyped it up too much. It is also a second chance romance... and those aren't always my favourite. I also found Catherine to be not as I pictured. I understand that she evolves during the series, but it just felt a little unmatched. I love a good Minotaur, though. So that was a plus. It did end really well, reflecting on how Ever has changed, and how it was becoming a better place for monsters and humans alike.

Catherine!!!!

OMG I absolutely loved this addition to the town story I have become obsessed with. I definitely look forward to new love and storyline for this town. Iggy?!!!! OMG I love that kid… he is just so Iggy? Lol well done author. I highly enjoyed reading about Cath and Nor. She deserves her own love after the sh*t she put up with and being the Mother of system we as readers have come to love. I am looking forward to the next addition.

“Cath, what you need is someone big and strong with gorgeous horns to hold on to while he fucks you senseless. It’s not that guy.”

What to Expect
🔁 2nd Chance
🍑 NSA Arrangement
📏 Size Difference
💋 Succubus x Minotaur
🌟 Annabelle Adores Him

It’s the last book in the Haven Ever After Series, and it's my most anticipated (which I feel like I say every book), but I’m all for Catherine getting her HEA! Every time I read a new book in the series, it feels like returning home. I’m a sucker for a good 2nd chance romance, and this one was just so well done.

Catherine is a rock in Ever. She may not be a Keeper, but everyone seeks her for guidance, and it’s been torture waiting for it to be her turn. Watching her fall right back into her feelings for Manorin (Nor) and fight the feelings provides some amusing moments in her chapters.

Nor for his part is ALL IN! He may float the idea of a “No Strings Attached” fling, but his inner thoughts make it clear that she’s the one that got away and really the only one he wants. I love his confidence, which makes his dirty talk ten times better because he doesn’t shy away from what he thinks.

The series never disappoints when it comes to spice, and I will admit that I gave an entire pepper for the bonus scene on her website because it was chef's kiss! There’s something about a size difference (in more ways than one) that is top tier, and the fact that she’s the only one who’s taken him the best, swoon. Nor has horns and a very grippable nose ring, you do with that information what you will.

Like my note says, I’m here for any and all Evenia hate, and while she may not have received the ending I would have liked for her (death), it’s still very satisfying.

We venture out to yet another haven this time one with Country vibes, and I would not be upset if the next series took us there. Cowboys and Monsters, yes please!

4 ⭐️ 3🌶️

It’s always such a bittersweet feeling when you get to the end of a series. As much as I wanted to keep reading about Ever, Catherine and Manorins story was a great way to end it. I really like these characters. I mean Catherine was so mysterious to me based on the snippets we got of her in previous books. I went into this almost blind, knowing that she’s a very old, powerful, and maternal which whose old mate betrayed her and the community that she loves so dearly. This story did a great job expanding her personality and who she is a person. I loved every bit of her and Manorin reconnecting. Don’t even get me started on how mouth watering Manorin was. I mean the bull literally has a heart of gold, a sinfully dirty mouth, and is head over heels for Catherine. I just loved him. Thank you Hazel Mack for making me yearn for another fictional monster man (as if I needed another).

The ending to this series was almost perfect. I mean… Evenia finally getting what she deserves??? YES 🙌🏼 The only reason I didn’t rate this higher was because it felt a tad bit rushed. Overall though, this book was the perfect addition and ending to this beloved series. In theory this could be read as a standalone, but I would highly recommend reading the rest of the series first for maximum enjoyment and understanding!!

Glad to have gotten the opportunity to read this, and I love Catherine and Manorin's dynamic. I am also a sucker for monster romances since this series has not only great art but a passable if not great plot to help the smut chug along without it feeling forced.

I appreciate the author acknowledging the previous antagonist aka the main fmc of this story's ex-mate/partner and the reflection of their dynamic throughout the story. That and the author kept bringing previous main characters and their partners relevant to this (and the other stories) which helped tie together that they are close and not in a convenient plot hopping way.

Catherine and Manorin were fun to read the dual POVs and it also helps that I love later in life romances now. I think it makes it a more complex story when both characters have history together/apart and also that they aren't like 21 or some shit lol. Also it was fun to read about the different havens and exploring more about Catherine as she has been a pretty prominent side character since the beginning.

Adding in the skyball was a nice touch but I also appreciate the author kinda TL;DRing the actual gameplay because I don't really care that much about sport.

I'm sad to see this series go but I know the author has more up her sleeve and I'm all for it whenever it may come out.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Ugh the end of an era. The Ever series will always have a place in my heart. It was my first ever series I’ve Arc read for and every book has been a smash hit. Not going to lie I teared up a bit with it being over ever though this is basically all smut but you fall in love with the characters so easily.

This one is Catherine and Manorin’s second chance love story. They’ve got Catherine’s one who got away coming to Ever to try and make something of their skyball team. My god he’s so hot and respectful how is Catherine supposed to have a chance!! Plus the guy she was trying to seduce was saltines straight from the sleeve. She deserves so much more!!

You will love to see these two fall in love again and also have crazy wild sex through the whole thing, a lot of big decisions and it’s so nice to have main characters who are not just in their 20s. I’m making my order now so I have my copies of the Ever series collected like the book goblin I am.

Please read all the books before this one. It’s a wonderful series and the wrap up is such a happy feel good wrap to the series. Thank you Hazel Mack for making the Ever series for us!

This is an exciting monster romance conclusion to the Haven Ever After series. It’s the eighth and final full-length book. While the series could be read out of order, this one should definitely be read last.

FMC succubus Catherine has been content for centuries in Ever, running the Annabelle and staying involved in the town. As Ever grows, the leadership decides to interview candidates for a skyball coach, and one of them happens to be Catherine’s long-ago ex, MMC minotaur Manorin. The chemistry between them is still strong, and a friends-with-benefits situation quickly turns into something deeper.

I really enjoyed this second-chance romance and appreciated that both characters were older. The story not only wrapped up Catherine’s arc but also brought closure to the town’s story, while paving the way for more Haven adventures in Pine Gulch.

This was a great conclusion to the series. While I’m sad to see it end, I’m excited for the Pine Gulch Ever After series. The prequel novella All My Hexes is out now, and Live, Love, Lasso is scheduled to release in early 2026.

I haven’t read any of the other books in this series but I wasn’t lost by any means and don’t think you have to in order to enjoy this book. I wanted to rate it a 4 really bad but some things are holding me back. I wasn’t a fan of the BnB being “alive”. It added to the paranormal feel of the book but it wasn’t for me. It annoyed me. I also don’t like to read books where the female main character isn’t human. In this book she’s a succubus and has magic but I was able to look over a lot of that kind of easily. The Minotaur also shifts into an actual cow/bull? Like she rides on his back and he gallops around? Not a fan. The romance and spice is great and I loved the touch of conflict between the two being ex lovers and having a new conflict come up between them they have to choose between. It’s a very solid read and I enjoyed my time reading it but it didn’t have me super sucked in craving it which is why it wasn’t rated higher. Just a few off-putting things. I probably won’t read the other books in the series because the other characters didn’t pull me in and I’m mainly just into Minotaurs which is why I picked this up. But I’m not mad I read this.

This was another cute book in the Haven Ever After series. I loved that it was about Catherine, the town “mother” and proprietor of the Annabelle inn. Manorin is a minotaur who dated Catherine in the past but when he asked her to be his mate she declined and they broke up.

It’s now centuries later and Manorin is in Ever interviewing for a coaching job. He and Catherine start back up again, and despite Catherine trying to keep things surface level their old feelings come back. These books are nice because they are low angst for the most part, and are sweet. I love that everyone in town is so accepting of one another and they work together to make the haven an amazing place. Annabelle the inn is a great character and I’ve enjoyed seeing her antics throughout all of the books. It seems that the Haven series is wrapped up with the story and I’ve enjoyed them all.

No third act breakup

Ever-y time I read one of these books it seriously feels like coming home. Ever is on the top of the list of fictional places I want to live in.

I'm so happy Catherine finally got her HEA. She deserved all the love and care from a good mate. Their chemistry was HOT HOT HOT and you could feel that they never really stopped loving each other from when they dated a few centuries before. It just wasn't their time then. But oh boy...did Manorin put in the work to keep her this go around. Even when they had agreed to a friends with benefits only situation he made an effort to make sure she was happy and cared for.

I loved that Manorin had such a deep connection with Annabelle, too. The gift that she gave him...had me in tears.

And if you've been waiting for retribution on a certain someone from this series...you'll be satisfied after reading this book. The screams I scrumpt!

Returning to Ever always feels like a warm, familiar embrace, but this time we get Catherine’s story, and it’s every bit as satisfying as I hoped. She’s been a standout character for me from the very beginning. Watching her fall for Manorin all over again, even while trying not to, had me fully invested.

The chemistry between them practically hums off the page, equal parts emotional and scorching, and I appreciated that their past wasn’t filled with bitterness, just bad timing. This second-chance romance is full of quiet moments that hit just as hard as the steam, and Manorin’s steady, patient pursuit is exactly what Catherine needed. He doesn’t just see her; he supports her, respects her, and never once tries to dim her shine. The dynamic between Manorin and Annabelle added a lovely emotional layer.

Thank you to the author for this advance copy.

The eighth and final book in the Haven Ever After series. This second chance romance will have you giggling and swooning just as hard as all the rest of the series!!
.
Eeeep! I'm so glad Catherine finally gets her HEA! And Nor is just so perfect for her. I loved them so much! Nor is sassy, sweet, and reliable and his flirtatious ways are going to make Catherine remember a side of her power she's ignored for so long. 🥵🥵🥵
.
This steamy romance was also very cozy, but it still managed to keep me stressed wondering how this HEA was going to work out. It worked out in the best way, though!! Not only because Catherine and Manoran get their second chance at love, but because it also brings a new era to the Haven system, and omg the way I was waiting for that!!
.
I adore this series. If you're looking for cozy small town monster romance, this would be your jam.

OMG WE GOT A CATHERINE BOOK!! AND I GOT THIS AS AN ARC (thank you for replying my
DM Hazel ❤️💜)!!! Loved this so much and I just am so happy we got to finally see Catherine have her happily ever after. Is this book perfect? No. There are a few weird timing jumps, the spice was a bit too much etc… BUT I absolutely loved how the book made me feel! Characters were incredible. I am not super into Nor/ Manorin but love Catherine, her work ethic and love for Annabelle and Ever. She so deserves someone like Nor who is there for her to love her after she went through all that heartbreak. Also, uhh can we talk about that ending!?! Omfg. Iconic. I love Hazel Mack and everything she writes. Urgh. 5 easy stars 🌟.

Saved the Best for Last!

This book was everything I’d hoped it would be and more! Nor is definitely one of my new favorite book boyfriends. Sooo smexy!
I’ve been dying to get a look into Catherine’s mind especially since we never really knew exactly what her role was in the Havens, so I loved her whole story. The ending was the absolute best! Thank you for that Hazel Mack!
This whole series is amazing and wonderful and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone who loves a spicy, cosy monster love story.
I really hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of Ever and the Havens.

Misbehaving with Minotaurs is the last book of the Haven Ever After series and Catherine, after playing the mother, the matchmaker and the strategist throughout the whole series, finally gets her happily ever after.
Nor is an old flame that comes to Ever to try out for the Misfits coach role. I absolutely adored that book with the puppies, Iggy and Anabelle's personality being front and center.
Ever fans are all mourning the end but Hazel Mack promised to give us a spin-off and I am here for all of her monsters.

Folks, he is a cow.
The author tried to rewrite Catherine as a sexy lead and it didn’t work for me. Also, did I mention he’s a cow?
There was a lot of spice, but it really wasn’t for me. He’s a cow.
The last couple books in this series haven’t been worth reading.
The only thing that kept me from DNF’ing this was the conflict around his personal and career goals and wondering how all of those pieces would fall together. I was also intrigued by the plot twist at the end with Evenia.

Let's start with the cons: this is the last book! We have to leave ever and im super sad about it.

Pros: this was the best way to close out this series. Catherine has been a treasure since getting it on and im so glad she got her second chance HEA! Also looks like we get to head over to pine Gulch to get raunchy with a different dark elf! So glad that I pre-ordered this beautiful book in hard copy because this, like the rest of the series deserves space on the shelf for when I need to head back in for allow stake warm and cozy HEA!

There was a lot that I liked about this one! The novel was fun and sweet and the spicy scenes didn't disappoint. My biggest problem, though, was with the way the plot moved. About halfway through the book, it felt like our biggest issues weren't issues anymore. It felt like there was really no reason that the two MCs couldn't be together, and I was left wondering why we were waiting.

I really loved the world that Hazel Mack crafted and I'm obsessed with all the little details she baked in! I just wish she had worked the plot a little more to make the love feel a little more believable.

I was looking for a minotaur book specifically and read this one first before any others in the series. I gotta say, reading this, I understood what was happening in the world, I didn't feel like I HAD to read the rest to understand it, which as great. That being said, I loved this book so much, I went back and read the rest immediately after! The entire series was great (with exception of one book I didn't care for). You really do root for all of these characters and it is so wonderful to see old flames resparked.

Now even though this book took me months to finish it was definitely worth it. Normally I hateeeeee a second chance romance but the second you start to understand Nor and Catherine’s relationship you see their chemistry so clearly it’s like how can you not root for them?? But I will say the main plot being around Nor’s job set up for unnecessary anxiety that I guess was needed to keep the plot moving. Overall I really enjoyed this book because Nor and Catherine were just really cute especially with the whole family dynamic of Ever.
