A fun romantic suspense story with all the European vibes!

This follows 3 sisters who were introduced in the first book, Captured in Frame (highly recommend this one! It was 5 stars for me). Sophie is moving from Paris to the quiet English village where her sisters live to restart and escape a nasty break up.

Miles is an opera singer who is on a break and runs into Sophie at the opera house. They hit it off immediately, but Sophie's ex is cray cray and starts stalking her. That's where the suspense comes in - Sophie and Miles have to navigate getting to know each other while Sophie is getting threats to her and her family from the ex.

What I liked:
-the strong faith content. The characters pray, they attend church, and they talk about God in their every day. It felt realistic and I appreciated it.
-the writing! I really like Laura Thomas' writing style. She is descriptive in setting but not too much. She has a good balance of dialogue and inner reflection.
-the romance. Miles was a sweetie. I liked seeing the relationship grow. It was a fast romance but I didn't mind it.

What I'd change:
-the pacing. Sometimes a scene would feel either like filler or cut short.
-family development. I wish her sisters were actually in it more or when they were, that there was some deeper conversation about what's going on. When they were together, I really liked it and I wanted more.
-the crazy ex. Is this realistic? I don't know but I hope not. I think the barn scene was a bit weird but it didn't last long so I moved on.

Overall, definitely recommend getting into this series! I think you could read them out of order but I also highly recommend Captured in Frame to get a solid introduction to the family dynamics.
Looking forward to the next one!

I really enjoyed The Final Word by Laura Thomas. This is the 2nd in the series, but this book is pretty much a standalone, so you don't have to read the first one. There are characters, however, that you meet in the first one. This book follows Sophie and Miles. There are some "triggers" in this book, but the author is so talented at carefully addressing them. There is action and suspense and the best part is is that it is clean! I believe this is my favorite book by Laura Thomas, so far! I highly recommend this book!

The Final Word by Laura Thomas gets off to a spine-chilling start, as Sophie (sister to Georgia, the heroine of book one) stumbles on a man attacking a woman in a narrow Parisian alley. A man who looks dreadfully familiar. And if your first thought to that revelation was, “This could be very bad news for Sophie,” you’d be on the right track. Fortunately, she’s moving to England in a few days – so she should be safe, right? – but not before she experiences a much more delightful chance encounter. This time with a Prince Charming who bears an uncanny resemblance to the hero in her manuscript. Intrigued? I thought you might be. (And as you may have guessed, the answer to ‘she should be safe, right?’ is ‘yeah…. not so much’.)

Thomas’s writing voice stays engaging throughout, and so do her characters. Sophie is an intriguing mix of gregarious and wary, while Miles is a true gentleman and such a good guy in every sense. (Also, how fun that he is an opera singer! You don’t see that too often as a character’s career.) Each of them has information they’re understandably withholding to protect their own once-burned hearts, and I appreciated digging into those layers as the author gradually reveals them. I really enjoyed getting to know both of these characters and watching their relationship progress from a ‘love at first sight’ chemistry to something deeper and long-lasting. And the suspense!!! The intensity ebbs and flows throughout the novel, always lurking in the background but also allowing time for us to breathe and for the romance and character growth to develop. When the stakes suddenly get higher though, buckle up because it’s about to take off faster than Miles’ beloved Porsche! There were definitely a few nail-biter moments toward the end where I a) forgot to breathe and b) fell head over heels for Miles.

Bottom Line: The Final Word by Laura Thomas takes us from the City of Lights to a quaint English country village in an entertaining, suspenseful, and grace-filled story. Getting to hang out with the Brooks sisters again was truly a pleasure, even if danger does seem to follow them around, and the addition of steady and heroic Miles is icing on the cake. Sophie’s growth across the novel – particularly in her faith journey – is well-written and touching, her struggles very relatable to me and, I daresay, many others. The suspense is chilling, yes, and written so that we are constantly curious about what will happen next but aren’t holding our breath the whole time. But it’s also inspiring, as far as how Sophie, her sisters, and Miles handle things – with several examples of true, sacrificial love too. I am still so intrigued by what’s going on with Harriet’s husband and I can’t wait for her story!

The Final Word is the first book I have read written by Laura Thomas. This is the second book in The Bite of Betrayal, though it can be read as a stand-alone. This story was full of suspense, right from the starting scene.

The character development was great. Sophie had a lot of things to overcome. The past abusive relationship that ended in her stepping away from her faith, her comparison issues with her twin, and a few other things. Miles is faced with a series life life-changing medical issues that he needs to try to overcome. I loved seeing them fall in love while also dealing with faith issues.

The setting and storyline were good. I loved being first in Paris and then in the quaint little town in England. There were a lot of layers going on in this story, between the ex-boyfriend Troy and the abuse that went on there, the medical issues Miles is dealing with, and the bond between the sisters. It was a fun story to unwrap and try to figure out what was truly going on.

The romance between Sophie and Miles was a cute whirlwind, kisses-only romance.

Laura Thomas did a great job intertwining faith throughout the book. Dealing with coming back to faith and wrestling with the hard things.

This is my first read from author Laura Thomas and I'm HOOKED! So I just had to purchase another one of hers books yesterday, which is the first book from this 3 book series and I cannot wait to dig into it as well! Laura is a very good writer and everything flowed so very well, it was very hard to put the book down! I am a very visual person and Laura is very descriptive in her writing and I love that! I felt like I was walking down the streets of Paris or driving along the beautiful English countryside. Great mix of sweet romance, vulnerable (and relatable) struggles in faith, and chilling suspense. Thank you Laura! I have found my new favorite Christian writer in YOU!! 🩷

The Final Word by Laura Thomas was a suspenseful read from the very first chapter. When Sophie moves to England to start a new life and meets a handsome opera star life should be looking up, but when a vindictive ex shows up determined to have the “Final Word”, suspense, mystery, and love for Sophie and Miles are just around the corner. I give this book 5 stars. I received a complimentary review copy of this book from the author and am writing this review voluntarily.

The past has followed Sophie, but will it get in the way of her future? The Final Word takes you on a journey with Sophie as she struggles with her past as she looks to the future. The author has loaded this read with themes of adventure, intrigue, intensity, and love. It is book 2 in a series, however is totally readable as a standalone!

What a wonderful sequel to Captured in Frame, where we get to know Georgia’s younger sister, Sophie Brooks, who has been living in France and working at a bakery while aspiring to be an author. Starting off with a bang, Sophie ends up being pursued from France to England as she settles down with her sisters. I love that this series focuses on such gifted women who care for one another amidst tragedy and trials. Their sisterly bond makes the books stand out, along with vibrant descriptions of the idyllic scenery. In this case, readers get to experience both French and English culture while following the story of a Canadian female character and an American male character, which covers quite a lot of international ground! This is a heavier book where domestic abuse is brought to the forefront, with the author handling it in a respectful way without minimizing any of the fear or dangers presented to the characters. It's also a book where Sophie and Miles exhibit maturity by keeping each other informed as they seek to elude some frightening threats, minimizing potential misunderstandings.

I appreciate the vulnerability that Sophie exhibits in her hesitation about God and church based on her past experiences, with Miles quietly praying and rooting for her as she reestablishes her understanding of faith. Miles' kind and faithful gestures as a result of his devotion to God are sure to win anyone over. It's easy to fall in love with this book based on how the characters fiercely protect each other through a sacrificial love that reflects John 15:13, where "greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." Additionally, if the mouthwatering descriptions of French pastries don't already grab your attention, then the action-packed romantic suspense will be sure to keep you glued to the pages. Readers looking for an enduring love that hopes for the best and trusts during the worst will find that God has the final word in this redemptive story.

It’s been eight years that Sophie Brooks has lived in Paris. It was wonderful and then it was not. Not only did Sophie fall in love with Paris, she also fell for Troy Sanders. Unfortunately the relationship became abusive and dangerous to her. It is time for her to go home to England.
But as fate would have it, or perhaps God, on the last full day that Sophie lives in Paris, she meets the famous and very handsome opera singer, Miles Morgan and she is quite taken with him.
Oh, why she laments could she not have met him before? Perhaps he could have been the real man of her dreams.
There is plenty of suspense in this faith based novel by Laura Thomas as both Miles and Troy follow Sophie to England. It seems that neither man is quite finished with her.
A delightful tension filled mystery that was very enjoyable. I received an eARC from the author and this review is my opinion.

I completely loved The Final Word by Laura Thomas! It’s the follow-up to Captured in Frame, but it is very much a standalone book. The Final Word has you on the edge of your seat right from the start! Sophie Brooks (Georgia’s sister who is the main character in the first book) is walking on the familiar streets of her Paris neighborhood when she witnesses a woman being attacked by someone who looks very familiar. She’s rightfully frightened since the attacker looked right at her, so she calls the police and tells them about the attack…just not about who she thinks the attacker was. Since she’s moving to England that week, she figures that she’ll be safe even if it was him.

Right before moving, Sophie completes her final task for the bakery in which she’s been working. She delivers treats to the opera and meets opera singer Miles Morgan who perfectly fits the description of the hero in the book Sophie has been writing. Of course she’d meet him the day before she’s leaving. But God works in mysterious ways, and Sophie finds that Miles will be in England soon as well. Perfect, right? But Sophie’s terrifying past follows her, and Miles has a secret that he’s been hiding. One that may change his life forever.

I loved getting to know Sophie and Miles as individuals and as a couple in a budding, love-at-first-sight relationship. Sophie’s return to faith is weaved into the story perfectly. Most of us have gone through something that has shaken our faith. We, like Sophie, may feel abandoned by God, but He isn’t the one who moves away…we are. Miles is a strong Christian man, but he also questions God as he deals with his “secret.” I could definitely relate. The Final Word helped me draw closer to God as I was reminded that He is faithful and never leaves us.

I highly recommend The Final Word! This Christian romantic suspense has characters that leap off of the page, an idyllic English village setting, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and a strong message of faith. 5 stars!

The Final Word was a wonderful exciting story about Sophie and why she was in Paris.
But also how she met Miles, an opera singer there too. And getting to know him has been great.
Now she is ready to go back to England where her sister's now live and be with them. Miles also has a beloved aunt there and is going back too. It seems to be love at first sight for them both until an abusive boyfriend from Sophie's past threatens their happiness.
With the threats to her family and her constantly being threatened, Sophie has had enough and wants it to stop.
But can they stay ahead of this evil man until the police catch him? And will they be able to trust God to have total control, instead of trying to do it their way?

If you are wondering if God still has a plan for your life, for your good, then The Final Word is for you.

I took this book along on a recent vacation and it didn't disappoint. Sophie's story grabbed me from the opening scene in Paris where she witnesses something that connects to her past in a really unsettling way.

Sophie's struggle to let people in really got to me. Her walls felt so real and earned given what she'd been through. I found myself staying up later than I should because I needed to know what happened next as her past caught up with her.

What I appreciated most was how Laura Thomas wrote about learning to trust again - both other people and God. That hit close to home. Sophie's struggle to move past her walls mirrors many of my own struggles with faith and love.

Recommended for: Readers who enjoy clean romance, Christian fiction, or anyone questioning God's goodness in their own story.

Sophie, a romance writer and baker has lived in Paris for eight years. On her last day in Paris she meets the man of her dreams, opera singer, Miles. Both of them are, coincidentally, moving to England.

Sophie and Miles seem to fall in love at first sight. Sophie, however, has a lot of baggage including an abusive ex-boyfriend who wants to silence her. Miles has an uncertain future. Can they stick together through all of the danger and unknowns?

This book contains action, adventure, and struggles. My only problem with this book is that Miles seems way too good to be believable.

The Final Word was my first experience with Laura Thomas’s books and I was blown away by how much I enjoyed it! There’s a sweet, wholesome romance layered with a meaningful faith journey, iced with a bit of suspense, and topped with a happily ever after. A sweet and deliciously thrilling novel with cute banter, a bit of a mystery, and a well-paced plot, I look forward to reading the first book in this series and I’m anticipating book three!

I liked this story very much. I wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next. Sophie lost her Faith and belief in Christ. She went through a difficult time with her ex and it helped her to find her Faith again. Meeting someone new and who understood her helped them both deal with their personal issues. I was given an advanced copy of the book and I am giving a honest review. I recommend this book and this author Laura Thomas!

This book started off with a bang. I mean, the very first sentence sets a tone and invites you into the mindset of the main character. Then, the first paragraph takes you deeper into not only Sophie’s current mental state, but also sets the stage for the drama about to unfold.

Even as the romance begins to unfold in the first half of the book, there are drops of danger and suspense woven throughout. I haven’t read the first in this series, and it’s not necessary to understand what it happening in this book. However, even though it focuses on a different sister, I believe reading it would provide a deeper understanding of the relationships between the sisters that is presented in this book and bring more clarity to references of the past.

I loved Sophie. Writer. Baker. I get her in those respects. I even understand her dreams and the frustration of feeling like maybe she’s been a little behind in living them as compared to others. And I enjoy the references to her life playing out like her work in progress. Can it be cliche to play a person’s life like the book or movie or whatever they’re working on? Yes. But that doesn’t keep people from enjoying it, and this was executed enjoyably.

The relationships between characters are well-developed and relatable. The bond between siblings. Family issues. Honorary family. And romantic relationships. All are explored and portrayed in believable ways. Though Sophie has been hurt (traumatized) by an abusive relationship in the past, she remains hopeful. She’s honest about the distance she’s allowed her experience to put between her and God. She wrestles with the hard questions. And she and Miles help each other grow through their issues in every way.

This story checks off the boxes for a tension filled suspense and a sweet, hopeful romance that makes me want to go back and read the first one. For my The Final Word review I give the story a solid four stars. You don’t want to miss it.

I feel like no time has passed between the first book and this one, though it’s clear that things have shifted with Sophie since she’s been in Paris. Though this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first book in the series as well, as it really helps set the tone for this series and helps build the dynamic of this world.

This mystery has a sinister plot that deals with stalking, a former abusive ex-boyfriend, and secrets that Sophie hoped would never be revealed. I’ve got to be honest, this story triggered me more than usual. Having gone through a situation that eerily mirrored this account was jarring to say the least. Still, I was happy to see everything work out for Sophie like it eventually worked out for me. Like Sophie, I had to truly step out in faith and let it all go. It was still one of the hardest things I ever had to endure, but God saw me through, and I am thankful every day that He did.

Despite this, I enjoyed the novel overall. I adored the meet-cute between Miles and Sophie, the flow is nice, and the imagery of the English cottage, bakeries, and countryside was so pleasant. I also enjoy these characters so much. Miles and Sophie are adorable together and their relationship is refreshing as you see them help one another not only physically and emotionally but spiritually as well. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment as it’s going to feature a character that I’ve had some questions about so I can’t wait to see things from her unique perspective.

The heroine is a budding author who uses words in her chosen field. An abusive ex-boyfriend suddenly reappeared in her life. She has no doubt that it is him because he sends her texts reminding her that he always gets the final word. She thought she had gotten rid of him for good three years earlier, so it is both puzzling and frightening that he has shown back up again. Besides her writing, she is also an excellent baker. Sophie has an identical twin sister, Harriet, and an older sister, Georgia. After eight years in Paris, Sophie is moving back to Bramble Downs in England to be near her sisters. I enjoyed the interactions between the three sisters. They had a great relationship when they were young and now they are intent in rebuilding what they once had. I also enjoyed the tentative steps Sophie starts taking back to her faith and her relationship with God. Much can be learned from her faith struggle when you read about all that happened to her both during the time she dated the ex and since he has made a reappearance. I think most people would have similar struggles. However, there is a bright side to her story as she encounters a certain opera singer when she makes her final delivery for the bakery before leaving Paris. He is experiencing some struggles of his own. As someone who has never traveled in England, I liked the descriptions of the countryside, the seashore, and travels in that part of the world. It kind of made me wish I could actually be there and see it all firsthand. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

I so enjoyed reading Laura Thomas's The Final Word! The author effortlessly captures the feel of her scenic locations (Paris and the English countryside) while drawing the reader into Sophie's life. A life she thought she'd recaptured from a terrifying ex, as she writes and bakes French pastries in the City of Light. And then, when she's about to have a lovely evening with opera singer Miles Morgan...it seems that the terror has followed her into the present. So she flees.

But she isn't able to forget Miles from their brief encounter, so she contacts him. As it turns out, he's headed to England, where Sophie has run to her sisters. Surely in the peaceful English countryside, they'll be able to enjoy getting to know each other. And yet...unbelievably, the terror is unwilling to leave Sophie alone. Will Miles, Sophie, and her sisters escape the dangerous man who's threatened not only Sophie, but all those she loves? Only the God who she's beginning to reconnect with knows. But you can read it to find out, too!

Wonderful story, characters, and locations. Enjoy!

Heartfelt, faith-filled, and completely unputdownable!

I received an advance copy of The Final Word from the author.

I read The Final Word by Laura Thomas on an international flight—and let’s just say I went through all the emotions. I laughed, I cried, and I’m pretty sure the other passengers thought I was losing it. But it was 100% worth it.

Laura has a gift for creating stories that feel like stepping into the lives of close friends. You care deeply about the characters, their struggles, and their victories. The writing pulls you in from the first word and doesn’t let go.

It’s the perfect mix of romantic suspense and heartfelt moments—the kind that make your heart race and melt, often at the same time.

What I love most is how seamlessly she weaves faith into her stories. It’s not forced or preachy—it’s honest, heartfelt, and uplifting. Her words speak truth and hope in the most beautiful way.

Now I’m counting the days until Ribbons of Guilt releases in 2026 because I need to know what happens to Harriet! If you haven’t started the series yet, go grab Captured in Frame (Book 1). You won’t regret it.

Christian Suspense Romance has become a favorite genre of mine to read. The Final Word by Laura Thomas is Book 2 in the Bites of Betrayal series. I was excited to learn that this book was released, as I had read Book 1 in the series.

I have to say this storyline starts out sweet and dreamy. The main characters in this book are Sophie Brooks and Miles Morgan. Sophie has enjoyed living in Paris but is about to embark on a move to England. The twists and turns begin at the start of the story, with Sophie meeting an Opera Singer the night before her move. Miles and Sophie connect right away.. Troy, her ex-boyfriend also runs into Sophie in Paris. Miles decision to follow Sophie to England was so heartfelt and could be life changing. Troy begins to make trouble in England, after following Sophie there also. I really LOVE that Miles and Sophie are determined to set their future in God's hand and not allow Troy and Evil to destroy them. The author handles the topic of Abuse(from Troy) with sensitivity. I truly enjoyed the "LOVE at First Sight" for Sophie and Miiles. The book is filled with Mystery, Suspense, Romance and Faith. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Mystery Romance. AMAZING BOOK!

What a fun novel! I can say that I would love to move from Paris to the countryside. That would definitely be my choice. I’m a rural country girl at heart.

This is a clean romantic fiction novel with a bit of suspense and mystery thrown in for good measure. It’s also the second book in the series. It can be read as a standalone novel, but it will make the most sense if read in order.

Sophie is an aspiring author who has been working at a bakery in Paris. She’s “followed” as she moves to the English countryside. There are some references to domestic abuse in this novel, and the main character struggles with accepting a God that is good when things go wrong and bad exists in the world.

The author does a wonderful job of keeping you engaged in the novel while allowing you to get to know the characters and keeping the action moving at all times.

This author has fiction shorts on her website (LauraThomasauthor.com). I knew after tasting those: I would enjoy this book. After decades of romantic suspense stories, one thinks “oh, here’s another old chestnut...” Well, it follows the genre blueprint, but the differences are supremely special. I especially appreciate the Christian worldview. Laura keeps the crux of the central traumas as suspense for a good length. I thought I guessed what the five W’s of the traumas were, but I didn’t get that affirmed until after being slowly fed revealing background. Yet the relationship story was well planned. The national nuances are easy reading, but ibuprofen felt wrong in the English hospital. Especially since Paracetamol is the top most-prescribed medication in UK hospitals (taken from https://nursingnotes.co.uk/wp-content...). I highly encourage devouring this book. I thank the publisher for gifting me a complimentary copy. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

This is the second book in the Bite of Betrayal series which features the Brooks sisters. This is Sophie's story. Sophie meets Miles by chance, and it is almost like love at first sight. What should have been the makings of a fairy tale romance soon turn ugly and scary due to a narcissistic and predatory ex-boyfriend, Troy.

There is plenty of suspense, mystery and intrigue. There are also some incredibly tense moments, but more than anything this is a story filled with inspirational moments as Sophie finds her faith again.

I enjoyed getting to know these characters through the pages as you see their struggles, both personally and professionally. The descriptions of the delicacies that Sophie bakes made my mouth water. You will find yourself cheering for these characters as the battle between good versus evil ensues. The story of an opera singer and a baker/new author make for a good romance that was both satisfying and sweet.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the second book in this series; I loved the first book, which featured the sister of the protagonist in this book, but this book could stand alone well. This book features Sophie, from a family of three now-grown sisters who grew up in Canada, but Sophie is relocating from France to a small town in England to join her two sisters. As she’s about to leave France, her former abusive boyfriend resurfaces, frightening her. Simultaneously, she meets Miles, an opera singer, just the night before leaving Paris. Sophie and Miles are able to track one another down after she has relocated, but unfortunately, her ex, Troy, has followed her to England and begins stalking her. The story is absorbing and well-written; it was hard to put the book down once I got started. I can definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys Christian romantic suspense; I was provided an ARC, which I really appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

The Final Word by Laura Thomas is a must-read for fans of romantic suspense! The second installment in the Bite of Betrayal series can easily stand alone—but fair warning: once you read this one, you’ll be racing to grab book one.
Don’t be deceived by the charming English countryside or the quaint pink cottage Sophie now calls home. Beneath the surface lies a gripping tale of buried secrets, unexpected romance, and a relentless antagonist who refuses to let the past stay buried. Sophie leaves Paris for a quiet English village seeking peace and a fresh start, but danger is never far behind—but neither is a love that might change everything.
Packed with mystery, edge-of-your-seat twists, and a strong thread of faith, The Final Word delivers everything you want in a romantic suspense: heart-pounding tension, a swoon-worthy hero, and a plot that won’t let go.

Fantastic read! The story starts with a bang and continues with suspense, twists, love at first sight, faith, and (trigger warning) physical and emotional abuse. These "trigger subjects" were dealt with in a way as to be real, yet carefully worded as well as educational as
it shows ways the reader might "catch" the signs of abuse.
The book is totally intriguing and one that is difficult to put down because it's that good. The characters are realistic without being too. complex.

While this is book two in a series, it can be read as a stand alone though I highly reccommend book one.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader but I assure you all opinions are my own.

I loved Laura Thomas’s book, The Last Word, so much that I immediately got the first book in this trilogy. Each book is a stand alone story, but as with many book series, character backstories are so helpful! Laura’s books are Christian suspense, which means there is mystery and drama, but no foul language, explicit sex, or scary violence. The story will keep you on edge, and I stayed up way too late to finish!
The characters are realistic and relatable. Their struggles with life stressors, their faith walks, and their love lives ring true. This book deals with issues of childhood trauma as well as spousal abuse, but Laura deals with them in a sensitive manner.
I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait for the last book in this series. Well worth reading!
